FLOWERY BRANCH – Tell your preacher to let you out of Sunday service early.

Take the MARTA if traffic is your issue.

Cut the tailgate off a little bit earlier.

Basically, as Kim Zolciak sings, “Don’t be Tardy for the Party!”

Falcons coach Mike Smith, who is 18-3 in the Georgia Dome in three seasons, is asking the fans to be on time and loud for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game against the Green Bay Packers.

“I just want to talk a little bit about the upcoming game and how important it is for our fans to get out there,” Smith said. “We want it to be like Thursday night (against the Baltimore Ravens). That was a big advantage for us as a football team to have the fans in the stands, rocking and rolling.”

The Falcons are 8-2 and have the best record in the NFC. Green Bay is 7-3.

“It should be a good game,” Smith said. “The Green Bay Packers are on a roll. They are playing good football. It ought to be an exciting afternoon. We are hoping that everyone will come and help us win the game.”

I’m as tired as anyone about all the “slobbering” over MV. But there will be times he will be pertinent to the CURRENT football situations, and he will need to be mentioned.

Go Packers. Packers play better when it counts. I feel a good blowout coming. Atlanta is not being respected because they are winning games at the last second of games. Such the same as the Jets. Clay Matthews in Matt Ryan’s face should = turnovers. Good luck Atlanta!

Packers have the most devastating injury list in the NFL and are still one of the best teams in the NFL. Good luck to any teams as the packers get healthier every week. Should be a fun second half of the season for the Packers.

Packers- 45 Atlanta-17

Hey Matt, not only should the Falcons even bother to show up – maybe we should jus declare the “CheeseHeads” are the greatest and end the season NOW? However i soooo doooo hope you will join us this Sunday evening after the game? Please come and be ready win or lose to give YOUR profound explainations of “WHY” you were right and “WHAT HAPPENED” on that last second opportunity, as we ALL would greatfully appreciate your “Walking Book of Knowledge” input. Ask the “Ravenous” lovers how well does “CROW” taste.

Matt – I love your confidence in the Pack! As a Packer fan, I hope your prediction is correct. As a realist, I think the score might be a bit closer than that…. GO PACK!! I sat Michael Turner this week in my fantasy league so hopefully he’ll be held in check.

(imagine the voice of the immortal John Facenda from NFL films) In the storied history of the Atlanta Falcons it can be said that never has a team done so little with so much. From their humble beginnings in 1966 as an expansion franchise, the Falcons have shown that year after year, greatness is something to be strived for without consideration for past results. The Falcons pursue greatness each and every season and take on all comers without regard for a history so bereft of success.

Even repeated playoff failures cannot turn this team from pursuing a goal so large and inviting and yet year after year so out of reach. No one can ever say that the Atlanta Falcons approach any season with anything less than a level of optimism that their critics would say borders on delusional fantasy. For these are the Atlanta Falcons…

(queue the music, roll into film montage of failed season after failed season)

All in good fun dirty birds

Jim, give him somewhat of a break he did say in the begining “In the words of John Fecenda” – without committed full blown pligiorism. Fairly good articulation i must say. I still enjoy being a “Redneck” though – i have found each day brings a new way of learning there are plenty of us that still know and beleive we are incompetent and there is more to learn.

Read the last sentence in the post – just meant in good fun. Don’t know what a ” ‘tingly’ up my leg” is – must be a southern thing,

In truth, my feelings were ambivalent. I wrote it to capture the essence of how fruitless all the optimism must be for the Falcons and their fans. But then, scarcity drives utility.

That said, enjoy the game.

Savage,

The “tingly” was a joke on when Chris Matthews said Obama “sent a tingly up his leg,” which was kinda weird for a commentator.

I know it’s in fun, but we gotta fight back when mocked.

Anyway, I really think this is gonna be a great game.

Count on me coach! I admit, I am late every Sunday because my church does not let out til noon. But I will change my routine for this Sunday and go to the 7:45 AM worship service so I can be on time for the game. This one will be tough, so we will do our part from the stands and you guys do it on the field.

Besides, I feel if I miss church service for the Falcons game that God will punish the Falcons with a loss just because of me. I know, weird, but isn’t the game of life weird at times?

Ok you cheeseheads bring your act Into our house and see what happens.I was at the Baltimore game and almost the whole bottom section was filled with Ravens fans.It didn’t help one bit. This aint’ the same ole Falcons and this town and fanbase are behind our team. The Falcons aint’ gonna lay down for the Packers. So give It your best shot.I bet our offense moves on your defense and our defense will stop ya when we have to.The Falcons are saying they haven’t played for 60 minutes yet this year.I know…scary Isn’t It.They plan on playing 60 minutes against the Packers.Time for a STOMPIN’.

Incidentally, D. Orlando formerly covered the Green Bay Packers for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Be that as it may…this is going to be one heck of a game. I’d bet on a 1-3 point differential either way when all is said and done. Both are very good teams and, I believe, the non-victorious team will be the one that puts the ball on the turf. Hoping for a good game, no injuries to either team – I’d hate to see either of these teams handicapped in their playoff hunt by injury…the Pack have already been decimated (9 serious contributors on I.R. – including, I believe 5 starters.) Seriously good game coming up folks. If you’re a fan of football … these are the match ups that you look for.

IntheShadowofLambeau – It’s a little different. Packers are steeped in winning tradition and are veteran tailgaters (as I know from MJS day). Falcons not so much. But this administration is working to change that. One thing is that they have to teach the fans about getting into the Dome of time.

Well, they’re doing a helluva job rebuilding the franchise, this is for sure.

Back in the day…the 70’s and 80’s…when whatever it was the guys in Green and Gold were playing on the Hallowed Ground was gawd awfully pathetic year-in-and-year-out, it was virtually impossible to get tickets even then. My group of die-hard tailgaters and borderline drunken fools, used to be in the Lambeau parking lot at 6 a.m. for a noon kickoff WITHOUT TICKETS. Haha.. we’d run a couple of 2×6’s between two vehicles, set up a TV with a generator in 10-degree weather and watch the game on TV from the parking lot-just to get the sounds and smells of the stadium. A couple of times it actually got cold out there and we’d become chilled – in those days, the Lions and Vikings actually played outside.
