FLOWERY BRANCH – Tell your preacher to let you out of Sunday service early.
Take the MARTA if traffic is your issue.
Cut the tailgate off a little bit earlier.
Basically, as Kim Zolciak sings, “Don’t be Tardy for the Party!”
Falcons coach Mike Smith, who is 18-3 in the Georgia Dome in three seasons, is asking the fans to be on time and loud for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game against the Green Bay Packers.
“I just want to talk a little bit about the upcoming game and how important it is for our fans to get out there,” Smith said. “We want it to be like Thursday night (against the Baltimore Ravens). That was a big advantage for us as a football team to have the fans in the stands, rocking and rolling.”
The Falcons are 8-2 and have the best record in the NFC. Green Bay is 7-3.
“It should be a good game,” Smith said. “The Green Bay Packers are on a roll. They are playing good football. It ought to be an exciting afternoon. We are hoping that everyone will come and help us win the game.”

Um, if you are 8-2 and playing a game that could determine home field advantage and you need to tell your fans to show up and be loud you have a pathetic fan base.

Ueeediot good point and yes I would say universally if a coach has to demand that the teams fan show up and cheer there is something missing from the fan base. This is a huge game, can’t imagine why a Falcons fan w/ tix to this game wouldn’t be jacked up, loud and in their seats by kickoff. Maybe I’m just too used to tailgating hours before the game and not battling ATL traffic to get to the stadium but still…
Lastly, I reacll during the Packers defeat of the Jets in NY most of their fans left in the 4th before the game was over. At that point all that could be heard in the stadium were Packer fans chanting “Go Pack Go”. I have a feeling this same type of situation is going to occur this Sunday afternoon in Atlanta…

Kurt,
We have a stupid downtown stadium. As much as I would like something else, this is what we have. So, yea, I would like a stadium “out in the country,” where folks could leisurely come in and tailgate and make it for kick-off. BUT WE ARE IN A MAJOR METROPOLITAN CITY, and it is just different. It is “studio” football. Networks love it. So folks have a hard time on Sunday morning.
Doesn’t make the team any worse, and gives no rise to discouraging our coach for pepping up the fans. Jeez, did you go to high school?
Just come back after the game, if you can “man-up” to it.

As a Packers season ticket holder and St. Paul resident, I represented Sunday at the Metrodome. Atlanta Packer fans, it is your turn this weekend – be loud and proud! I haven’t seen many Falcon games this year but from the little I’ve seen and from what I’ve read, it sounds like you have a terrific team. I’ve been to Georgia a few times (family cabin in Blue Ridge) and have always been the recipient of your Southern hospitality. Thanks for that and GO PACK – turn the Dome Green and Gold!!! By the way, Fudge Packers, GB Peckers – very clever, creative and adult of you.

“The tailgaters can oblige but the church going folks will get there as soon as possible. Can’t cut out early for church just to make some noise for the Falcons.”
Why the hell not??

Meredith,
I apologize for my crudeness. All of you, except for one, have been very gracious on our blog.
We have been turned bad by the Saints bloggers that have “tainted” us by their……….oddness.
Atlanta fans are usually better, and we welcome you in for a great game.

Enough excuses. We finally have a great Falcons team, and people can’t even get in their seats on time. Welcome to Atlanta.

Thanks for the welcome, Falcon Jim. Considering there isn’t an historic or even recent rivalry between our teams, I expect and hope for a more friendly, respectful banter. I understand your rivalry with the Saints and expect the Packers rivalry with the Vikings is similar (and sometimes distasteful). It should be a fun and well-played game between two good teams. I will always, ALWAYS have a soft spot for the Falcons for beating the Vikings in the 1998 NFC Championship Game. : )

It’s been fun reading all of this bantering (B.S.) from both sides.I’m glad to see that some Packer fans joined in. Welcome and play nice. I moved up north once and know that the Packers have a waiting list for season tickets about 10 miles long and they are didicated fans. We, however, are enjoying the best team we have had since 1066, when we started. Our fans are so tired of hearing “wait until next year” so you will have to understand that, yes, we are excited to now have a team that can beat any team out there. Unfortunately, Green Bay, you’re next.
