FLOWERY BRANCH – Tell your preacher to let you out of Sunday service early.

Take the MARTA if traffic is your issue.

Cut the tailgate off a little bit earlier.

Basically, as Kim Zolciak sings, “Don’t be Tardy for the Party!”

Falcons coach Mike Smith, who is 18-3 in the Georgia Dome in three seasons, is asking the fans to be on time and loud for Sunday’s 1 p.m. game against the Green Bay Packers.

“I just want to talk a little bit about the upcoming game and how important it is for our fans to get out there,” Smith said. “We want it to be like Thursday night (against the Baltimore Ravens). That was a big advantage for us as a football team to have the fans in the stands, rocking and rolling.”

The Falcons are 8-2 and have the best record in the NFC. Green Bay is 7-3.

“It should be a good game,” Smith said. “The Green Bay Packers are on a roll. They are playing good football. It ought to be an exciting afternoon. We are hoping that everyone will come and help us win the game.”

The short history lesson for this week:

The Green Bay Packers are an American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL) and are the third-oldest franchise in the NFL.

The Packers are the last vestige of “small town teams” that were once common in the NFL during the 1920s and 1930s. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau (hence the name Lambeau Field on which the team plays) and George Whitney Calhoun, the Green Bay Packers can trace their lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. In 1919 and 1920 the Packers competed as a semi-professional football team against clubs from around Wisconsin and the Midwest. They joined the American Professional Football Association (APFA) in 1921, the forerunner to what is known today as the National Football League (NFL). The Packers are the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States.

The Packs defense gets a lot of pub, but compare the yardage.

Packers……………323.4 (12th)

Falcons……………339.5 (17th)

16 yards a game is not much.

Falcons offense averages 24 more that the Pack per game. Very close. IF averages held true, the Falcons gain 8 more yards than the Pack.

Close game? Special teams be the difference?

I have to say that I have been surprised by the Falcons winning this season, but I think this will be an L. Green Bay has probably the best group of wide receivers that you will ever see. They are fast, strong, and very aggressive so they snatch the ball out of the air, rather than allow teams to pick them off. A Saints win this Thursday and a Falcons loss on Sunday will make for a great matchup December 27th.

Can’t wait to see all the fat white chix in their Clay Matthews jerseys Sunday. I love me some fatties, and female Green Bay fans know how to squeeze their goods into a man’s extra large jersey.

Yo Atlanta!
The Packers are coming to town!
Ya’ll are a pretty nice team this year but reality comes to “Hotlanta” on Sunday and his name is Charles Woodson!
Mr. Roddy will rue the day…believe me…when Charles is thru with him.
Good luck…it should be a nice game to watch.
Actually I like the Falcons…it’s just that I’m a Packers fan!

Keep your eye on our “nickel back”, Sam Shields!
Undrafted out of “the U”, cornerback; ran a 4.28 dash at the combine and is our kick returner and nickel-corner.
One mistake…and it’s showtime!
Nice kid, good person and a hard worker; easy to cheer for a guy like that.

After 11 season ending injuries (IR) and 5 of those, starters…it was thought that the Packers (including myself) were done for the year but…they just keep plugging guys in and away they go.
Everybody up here has been holding our breath…and they keep getting better. Won 4 in a row now.
Bye the way…it’s 35 degrees and sunny here today. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Oh, Falcon Jim, he said twelve championships not Super Bowls, there were championships before the Bowl… only three Super Bowls…. Hey how many Hall of Famers do the Falcons have?

Why do Packer fans come on to a AJC Falcon’s blog? Is it a mass- Wisconsin case of insecurity?
Spew your BS cheesehead Packer fans, the players will decide the winner.
I’m putting my money on the Falcons, because I honestly don’t think that the Pack is really that good.

Welcome south Packer fans. I hope ya’ll enjoy the game, it should be a good one. If you guys can beat us in our house 18-3, then you will have something to go home and brag about. If, however, we play like we have been playing, your trip home will not be as enjoyable. Thanks for coming, maybe next time. Falcons 27-14.

Atlanta Falcons players:

Out of my respect for you, I am letting you know that, with a heavy heart, I resigned today as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. This decision was not easy, but it was made in the best interests of me and my family. While my desire would have been to finish out what has been a difficult season for us all, circumstances did not allow me to do so. I appreciate your hard work and wish you the best.

Sincerely,

Bobby Petrino

@1:46. It doesn’t matter how many HOF’s the Packers have. I don’t think any of them will be playing Sunday. Also, all those “championships” you guys won against Duluth (or somebody) before the Atanta was in the league don’t impress me much. Those were more Wisconsin championships than real NFL championships.

Yeah, you probably say that the Yankees didn’t win all those World Series because they happened awhile ago. That is great logic. All that means is that Atlanta wasn’t on the map and was too pathetic to even qualify for a professional team….
