ST. LOUIS – Falcons defensive end John Abraham, who has a history of groin problems, was declared inactive against the Rams with a groin injury on Sunday.

Abraham leads the Falcons in sacks with eight.

Abraham had groin problems earlier in his career, but had started  55 of the last 56 games for the Falcons, including all 16 games in 2007 and 2008. He started 15 of 16 games last season.

Lawrence Sidbury, who has been inactive for four of the last five games, was announced as the starter for Abraham.

Abraham recorded two sacks against Baltimore to give him eight this season, second most among defensive ends in the league. The New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora went into this week’s game leading all ends with nine sacks.

Before missing the St. Louis game, the upgrade in his performance was dramatic. Abraham had only 5 1/2 sacks last season after registering a franchise record 16 1/2 sacks in 2008.

Abraham was named second-team All-Pro in 2008, but was a bit miffed that he didn’t make the Pro Bowl NFC team.

Other players declared inactive for the game against the Rams included cornerback Dominique Franks, running back Gartrell Johnson, linebacker Spencer Adkins, tackle Garrett Reynolds, guard Mike Johnson and defensive tackle Trey Lewis.

Someone please tell the AJC that the Falcons are playing the 49ers not the Rams.

Falcons look pitiful early on…could be a long game. 7-3 wouldn’t be bad…just not looking forward to playing GB next week. It’s a good thing the Falcons still have 2 games with Carolina.

You know we are going to lose today. This is what the Falcons do. Beat an awesome team at home and then roll over on the road against one of the worst teams in the league. They have done it for years, and they wont stop now.

With all the press about the Falcons being tops in the NFL, guess what will happen today? We will no doubt lose. It never fails.

There is such an obvious moment of panic in Ryans dropback that its almost comical. He drops back, looks, looks, sees nothing as the pocket begins to collapse, and then HE FLIPS THE F*CK OUT

And once again, we have to settle for a FG.

I would like to see our offense not run the ball every first down. So predictable.

A couple of nice pass plays by the Falcons but Turner is his usual slow self. Watching him take the hand off and run up to the line of scrimmage is like watching cold syrup on a winter’s day.

so we come out against the ravens with nothing but spread looks that they cant figure out or stop, we win the game, and then we come out against the freakin rams with some goofy looking loaded backfield set that looks like it was designed for the special olympics. brilliant offensive scheme.

So much for giving them bad field position. I know there is a lot of game left but this doesn’t look good. The Rams today look like they are the 7-2 team.

Dear Mr. Dimitroff,

Please draft ONLY defensive players for the next three drafts. I’m sick of watching this defense get shredded year after year.

Wish we had Jackson over Turner.
Much better runner. Not going to win this game with
Lousy D Line
Lousy coverage
Lousy passing by Ryan
Stupid penalties

Falcon defense is a big letdown waiting to happen.. They do not need to go far in the Playoffs..

Scheme, players, smarts, focus, talent… whatever the problem, it won’t be fixed this season.

They’re making Bradford seem better than Ryan in his 1st season..
