FLOWERY BRANCH — The Falcons signed tight end Marquez Branson to the practice squad and placed tight end Robbie Agnone on injured reserve with a foot injury today.
Branson, 6-3, 247 pounds, was originally signed by the Denver Broncos as a rookie free agent following the 2009 NFL Draft.
Branson spent his rookie season on the Broncos practice squad after playing in 23 games in two seasons at Central Arkansas.
The Starkville, Mississippi native totaled 82 career receptions for 1,236 yards (15.1 avg.) while at Central Arkansas. His 18 touchdowns ranked fifth in school history and in his senior season he posted 45 catches for 737 yards and 11 touchdowns, which earned him All

Tight end Robbie Agnone making a catch at for the Delaware Blue Hens.
Southland Conference honors.
Agnone, 6-6, 260 pounds, was injured in practice on Wednesday. He was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Washington Redskins in 2009. The Falcons signed him on July 31, 2010 after spending the 2009 season on the New England Patriots practice squad. He was signed to the Falcons practice squad after being waived as part of the final roster cut downs.

OK, I understand the TE prospects for 2011 are slim ……. I hope we have our TE-of-the-future already on the roster.

I lament that we didn’t snag the TE from Wisconsin in 2009 or either of the 2 TEs that NE snagged this year (Hernandez and Gronkowski?)

Camaro Bob – Are you joking? The Falcons signed this TE to replace a practice squad TE (Robbie Agnone). Gonzalez might play for the Falcons again next year if we win some playoff games. Gonzalez has never won a playoff game.

Keep up people…Justin Peele is out for several weeks and the Falcons only have two tight ends on the roster. They need to keep a TE on the practice squad in case of another injury. This is their “tight end of the future”? Not even close.

MIchael Palmer is the tight end of the future for the Falcons. I believe the sky is the limit for him. Great size. Great hands. Hard worker. Hometown boy. And to think, he wasn’t even drafted. I just wish they would start using him a little more on Sundays this season.

Tony Gonzalez is a great TE, no matter what the age. Gonzalez is a pro’s pro. Now that teams will focus on Roddy, we will see Gonzalez’s stats skyrocket.

@Marcus Dont worry. Dimitroff can trade for Hernandez or Gronkowski one day.LOL We know how much he still has ties to the Pats.
@Camaro Bob I dont think he’s slowed down that much. We havent seen much of him b/c Ryan may finally be figuring out that he has another target besides Tony. I dont believe they think he’s over hill….they just understand that he has more football years behind him than in front of him.

They are only “temporarily” covering a position which was “temporarily” taken out by an injury. We have seen our future and his name is… http://www.atlantafalcons.com/roster-players/michael-palmer/

If you guys lose Tony G. you have absolutely nothing behind him, at least if Cooley goes down we can plug Fred Davis in & not miss a beat. Same thing if you lose Roddy White, Dimitroff is a joke as a GM haha lol !!!!

Where do you get off talking about our team…and you have an owner who has tried for sometime to buy a championship….then you’ll come back on us…”well we’ve got rings”…the last time the Skins won rings was when the stones were made of glass…..and yes if we lose key players we would be in bad shape…but any team would be for that matter…ask New Orleans…..So get off it with those “silly” comments…..P.S. “I know who you really are”

Sid are you ok, WTH does 4th down conversions prove that your developing QB can’t move the ball on the first 3 downs, & that he’s having trouble executing the gameplan WOW great observation !!!!!

I have been out of pocket since then and wanted to respond with some more stats, not that I think you will be able to comprehend it but it is speaks for itself except, of course, in your case.
Atlanta is #1 in 3rd down conversions

I’m with you. Palmer came into the season on the starting roster as the 3rd string T.E.
Now Peele goes down, so Palmer is now Second string. We bring a guy in to the practice squad as an (emergency, forbid) third stringer. What is so hard to understand?
The little we have seen of Palmer was impressive.

So, I guess the take away from this is that they REALLY didn’t like what Colin Peek showed them in preseason? I thought they would have brought him back, and would have liked to see him get the shot. Any inside info DOL?

Just a note to everyone – Palmer has been playing a good bit the past two weeks. I have noticed him blocking numerous times. Also, I think Ryan just missed him on a 20-yarder in the Bengal game. I believe Palmer will be the next #1 TE after Gonzalez retires. Of note – Gonzalez will probably play one more year (hopefully the labor situation is resolved).
