FLOWERY BRANCH –- For the second game in a row, the opposing head coach paid major homage to the Atlanta defensive line rotation.

Philadelphia’s Andy Reid raved about defensive end John Abraham, defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux and the rest of the crew.

“They are explosive now,” Reid said. “Abraham has been in this league a long time. I think he’s playing at a very, very high level. I can go right down the list. Kroy (Biermann), that play first of all that he made (against Cleveland), that’s the way he’s playing. He’s playing fast and aggressive.

“Jonathan is a Pro Bowl player.

“They are getting great production out of Corey (Peters). If you can follow Corey with a (Peria) Jerry, then that’s pretty deep right there. That’s a good group. Jamaal (Anderson) is playing phenomenal football.

“They are all playing very well. I think you’ve got eight guys there that you better say, you better strap it on. There aren’t any weaknesses. They are flying around, they are stunting and playing good aggressive football.”

Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis paid them a great deal of respect in the 39-32 victory. The Bengals went almost exclusively to a no-huddle attack in order to keep the Falcons from rotating in their defensive linemen in waves.

The ploy didn’t slow down Abraham, who finished with two sacks to give him six for the season. Also, the two sacks gave Abraham a total of 42 sacks since joining the Falcons in 2006.

He moved past Travis Hall (41.5) into fifth place on the team’s all-time sack list.

Claude Humphrey (94.5), Chuck Smith (58.5) and Patrick Kerney (58) top the team’s sack list.

The defense finished with three sacks and has 15 sacks on the season.

Abraham wasn’t the only defensive lineman to have good game against the Bengals.

Vance Walker, the former Georgia Tech standout, had five tackles. He had one where he just manhandled Cincinnati running back Cedric Benson in the hole.

“Vance is progressing well in terms of the number of snaps that he’s getting in the rotation,” head coach Mike Smith said. “He was productive; he had a couple of nice stops on the run. He came off of a double team and had a tackle for a loss in the backfield. . . we’ve got some guys that when called upon can step up and make plays and Vance is one of them.”

Also, Peria Jerry saw his most action of  the season. He played 23 snaps against the Bengals. He’d been on a 10 to 15 snap count while coming back from major knee surgery. He’s gaining more confidence in the knee with each snap.

Entire Tech DL from 2008 was drafted: Didn’t see Michael Kohnson Sunday; haven’t seen Richard playing for NE; and Derrick Morgan is hurt. Walker made several impressive stops Sunday: is he the only one of the four playing?

I was impressed with Vance as well. There were a few times that HE didn’t get the stat but he blew up a play by getting in the backfield and causing the RB to change direction.

I asked Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis about Johnson last week. Here’s what he said:
“Well we feel the Michael is a good, young player still, a good prospect and continues to get better. He’s played a couple different spots for us. We trained him most of camp at linebacker and over the last couple of weeks he’s played more of the defensive line. That gives us some versatility.”
It’s not going to well for him. I have to check on the other former Ga Tech d-linemen.

Maybe I’m a little biased, but has anyone noticed that there’s more holding than usual? I think it’s the increased speed of the defensive front. I know it is said there’s holding on every play but it seems alot more blatant lately and it’s not being called.

The NFL has obviously liberalized the holding calls in an effort to save QBs; more than half the starting QBs in the NFL are already down with injuries after only 7 games.

The NFL would much prefer Vince Young vs. Mike Vick then Kerry Collins vs. Kevin Kolb!

We should go ahead and coin the phrase ‘The Falcon 4 Defense’ in reference to the front four rotation that wears out opponents.

I wouldn’t worry about a huge drop off from Abraham. As long as they find someone that can step in once he’s lost a few steps. By the the way D.O.L, is there any word about the play of Sidbury. I’m figuring that he has a lot to work on considering he hasn’t broke into the lineup.

Big Claude Humphery was 6′ 4″ – 250 plus – during his time in the NFL he was a tencious pass rusher – “terrible” run stopper – Big Claude and Tommy Nobis were the players that put the Falcons in the game, back when the Falcons had NO ownership, personnel management or coaches that knew how to compete in the league during those early years. I respectfully disagree JSS – Big Claude Humphery was a “BEAST”!

I am pleased that the entire unit decided to rededicate themselves in the off-season. Now if their DC will allow them to remain crafty and variable when their initial schemes don’t work, they be fine as long the secondary can shore up it’s end.

Probably Jamal Anderson. Those ‘aints have keen eye for talent.

Really nice to have V dub coming along. I like that they have the luxury of taking Peria along slowly.

The rotation is very solid, though the no huddle significantly hurt the production they were getting up front. We still aren’t too good again’t max protect though part of that is on the secondary.

Dimitroff is going to go down in history as one of the best GM’s in the NFL. He’s the kind of consistantcy we need in N.O. I never thought I would agree with alot of the Falcon fans that the Saints are truly a one hit wonder. Maybe the NFL did have something to do with us winning the Superbowl.

We never should have even been in the Super Bowl, we got lucky against Favre! Arizona was like a pimple on an elephants butt, we wiped them out. There was just no opposition to get there, but you need some luck to get to the SB, and we had Lady Luck on our side, even against Indy. I mean we basically won on a trick play, an onsides kick to open the 3rd quarter. If we had not recovered we would have never won that game.

Really, you guys should completely ignore me, I’ll go away when I can’t get a reaction.

I wish I really could go to Pittsburgh, my mother was from Appalachia and was actually a coal miner for years before I was born. That is what they think caused my brain to shrink, all that coal dust.
Anyway, it would be fun to visit where I was born but the shack fell to the ground years ago. The wood was taken and used in the construction of the Rock and Roll Mueseum in Cleveland, that is why I was so happy when the Browns just kicked the Saints around at will. What would really be fun to see is the old swimming hole I used to swim in, but that has been drained due to the contanimants from the outhouse runoff. They also think that could have contributed to my diminished intelliegence. But hey, I’m just a little angry, not totally pissed, well, except at my miserable life.
