An official separates Falcons cornerback Christopher Owens (21) and Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. AP
PHILADELPHIA – Free safety Thomas DeCoud is a stand up guy.
He took the blame for the 83-yard touchdown. He was suppose to get over the top of Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin, but he heard his teammates yelling “reverse” and his instincts took over.
He took a peak and Maclin took off. (You love it when the players face the media music. Baseball players love to go hide in the lounge area when they don’t want to talk. DeCoud stood tall in the pocket. The Cal grad was articulate in explaining what happened to the Falcons defense. He gets a media gameball.)
Here’s what he and other players had to say to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after the game:
THOMAS DECOUD, safety.
ON THE MACLIN PLAY: “I read my key on the play and that was to read No. 1 (receiver). I was going over the top of him. Then I heard the rest of the team yelling ‘reverse.’ I looked back and he took off. It was just one of those things where I have to be more disciplined in my half. I’ll take the blame on that one.
“I tried to whip my head and give pursuit as fast as I could. They made the play on that one and I’ll take the blame on it.
ON THE BIG PLAYS: “We came into this game knowing that they are a team that tries to trick you with misdirection. You think you’re going one way and then bring you back the other. Maybe we didn’t execute it as well as we could have in that regard.”
ON ROBINSON GOING DOWN: “C.O. (Christopher Owens) and Brian (Williams) came in and did a great job.”
JOHN ABRAHAM, defensive end
ON EAGLES QB KEVIN KOLB: “We didn’t do anything to hinder him from getting the ball out or anything to make him feel uneasy.”
ON THE SCORE RIGHT BEFORE HALFTIME: “We never felt we were out of the game. We didn’t come to play on either said of the ball. As a team, we didn’t play well at all. We usually pick each other up on both sides of the ball. But we didn’t play like we usually play.”

Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson (right) and Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (left) are helped after a hit. AP
MIKE PETERSON, linebackers
ON THE MISDIRECTION ACTION OF THE EAGLES: “That’s usually what you get when you are playing fast; a lot of misdirection, a lot of reverses and screens. What we have to do is prepare ourselves for that each week. We have to self check ourselves.”
MATT RYAN, quarterback
ON TOUGH LOSS: “Every week is tough. In this league, every week is a battle. It doesn’t matter what your opponent’s record is, you know it’s going to be a tough physical game. Every week it’s going to come down to making a few plays here and there and today we didn’t make them.”
ON HIS FUMBLE: “It’s tough to say. Those calls are always difficult. It’s tough to say. As a player you always think you’re in the right.
WILLIAM MOORE, safety

Philadelphia's Jeremy Maclin (18) catches a touchdown pass in front of Atlanta defender Brent Grimes (20). AP
ON DUNTA ROBINSON: “We talked to him in the locker room. He was doing (well). You don’t want that to happen to anybody. Hopefully, he’ll feel better and we’ll get him back this week. I’m sure he’ll be all right.”
CHRISTOPHER OWENS, cornerback
ON GOING OUTSIDE AFTER ROBINSON WAS HURT: “You just have to be ready.
ON THE EAGLES PASSING FOR 326 YARDS: “We give all the credit to Kevin Kolb and his receiving corps. They played well. There are some things that we could have done better, but we give them all of the credit.”
TONY GONZALEZ, tight end
ON FALCONS BEING STOPPED ON THIRD DOWNS: “A lot of blitzing. Maybe we pick up the blitz or throw it hot and we weren’t able to make the play.
CURTIS LOFTON, middle linebacker
ON THE GAME: “They did a lot of mis-direction, reverses, passes and some off the wall stuff. We have to have good eyes and be ready for that stuff.”

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE! I just got off the phone with Special Agent Bennett of the FBI. I placed a call earlier today to the FBI and GBI, alerting them that a plane load of larcenist were headed to the Atlanta Airport. They were impersonating NFL players and coaches and they planned to steal checks this week. Agent Bennett informed me that the suspects were apprehended without incident. They were unarmed, not dangerous, put up no fight, and posed no type of flight risk. Atlanta…. your streets are safe now from those criminals!!!!

The suspects are being transported to Flowery Branch, GA where they will be immediately enrolled in rehab courses. They will undergo extensive retraining on offensive and defensive basics, in hopes that they commit no further heinous crimes such as those committed today.
The citizens of Atlanta will be asked to have mercy on them for today’s larceny.

With fans like this, who would want to play in atlanta. I am sick of the fairweather fans who come into this blog screaming for blood.
You don’t deserve a good team. Not that it matters, because the people who come to these blogs aren’t going to any games.
It was a bad game. it happens. The Defense is young and we are a run first offense. the D got tricked and burned. They will learn. Ryan looks fine. We need some speed in the RB position, and the left side of the oline needs to step up. But dang this reaction is shocking to me. We are still building this team, and they are very young. Deal with it.

“It’s tough to say. Those calls are always difficult. It’s tough to say. As a player you always think you’re in the right. It’s tough to say that it’s tough to say”
ok yeah, that looks right! But where are the comments that are supposed to throw Mike “5 yards or less!” Mularkey right under that on coming bus? Maybe Ryan really can’t do the deep ball but how the heck are we suppose to figure that out if you only do it like twice a game????

I agree with you 100%. As a season ticket holder, I like what I’m paying for. We’re a young team and we’ll learn from our mistakes and get better. As for all these fair weather fans, they can kiss where the sun don’t shine. Who needs them anyway! I knkow and have faith that coach smith and the guys will get things corrected. On a side note(2 things) 1.) I think Mike Mularkey needs to get more creative or we may have to seriously consider a new OC at the end of the season. I’d hate to see us break up the coaching staff, but we have to find ways to utilize the weapons we have. (2) Is it me or is DeCoud making a lot of mental errors this season? He was lights out last season. He needs to get it together.

@ loyal falcon – who said there was no faith from a fan that calls out poor performance?!
The bottom line is … there is no way that the organization should be proud of today’s lack of performance. High achievement starts with high expectations and proper performance. I stand by my analysis that checks were stolen today!!!!

Although none of the players will say it, the Falcons just got outcoached today. The Eagles coaches had great plays called at specific times that produced the desired results. There is no way that a team who is supposed to be an elite team lets the other team come all the way down the field in 2 plays and scores a touchdown like the Eagles did. You can’t keep spotting the other team with 14 – 17 – 21 points and expect to come back and win.
Last, but not least, who are the Falcons using to scout these games and how are they not picking up on some of the plays and tendencies of these opposing team that they are getting the jump on us at the beginning of games week after week?
Guys, I would really like to think we are better than that and that our win over the Super Bowl Champs on their home turf was no fluke. We should have maintained that momentum and taken it into subsequent games. We did not.

The falcons players didn’t come to play today and the coaching staff was out coached. This game shows why the falcons still need speed at WR. The Phili D was stacking the box all day with 8 to 9 players, zero respect for our WR’s. Our D looked like a D I played on in Pee Wees years ago.I don’t understand how Pa players were so wild open all day.Ryan didn’t show me much today either, he continues to lock onto one WR and teams know this, try looking around for a change.

D. Orlando,
What the hell are you talking about when you say baseball players go hide instead of facing the music? Brooks Conrad made three errors in a playoff game in front of 53,000 people and stood there like a man and answered every question from the legions of national writers that were at the game following it. Football players skip out on their interviews just like every other sport only certain players will actually step up and answer the tough questions, no matter what the sport is. So I’m not sure why you tried to take a swipe at baseball.
But about the Falcons they played like crap today and the game itself was absolutely boring to watch. After watching several really good college games yesterday today’s Falcons game, and most of the NFL games were an absolute bore. I’m starting to understand why most of you guys from the south prefer college ball over the pros.

This beating as been comming for a while, you can not play close games with the Browns etc and not see this comming. Look I love the Falcons but I really don’t think they are as good as people make them out to be. Media and fan hype. We will win games this year but we can not beat teams with speed unless we play perfect football and that is not going to happen all the time.We got beat up by 3rd sting O linemen are you kidding me. That show a lack of heart to me. Smitty alway talks about the process, well process this you need speed on the O. Simple as that. The falcons will never be elite until they get it.

Wat Wat Wat I have been a fan for over 30 years and I deserve better than today. Us long time fans have suffered through Ranken Smith and it still looks like the same old crap he put on the field year after year. Ryan doesn’t throw the deep ball because Roddy can’t beat double teams deep and other WR’s can’t run past anyone and I don’t think Ryan can throw for more than about 45 to 50 yard. I never see him steping into a ball when throwen. Some times it looks like a little girl thowing the ball

Fair weather fans, get the hell out of here. The Eagles are in the Falcons psyche and have been for years. They kept us out of the Super Bowl in ‘02 and ‘04. And every time we play them, there is just a mental block we can’t get past.
Bottom line regarding today; the O-Line lost it for us. They couldn’t block ANYBODY!!! Ryan had absolutely NO TIME to set and throw. Today’s O-Line reminded me of our mid to late 80’s O-lines. Just ask Steve Bartkowski and Chris Miller.
Plus, the defense fell for the SAME DEEP PASS PLAY three times!!! I hate seeing my teams fall for the same play so many times in a game. Plus, we fell for the screen about 7 or 8 times.
I knew we were going to have a game like this sooner or later. We have the talent, but we need more consistency. The only biotch about this game is that at the end of the season, if several teams in the NFC have the same records, we lose tie breakers like this one. We STILL have a lot to play for and we are STILL leading the division by half a game over the Saints, so were in good shape still, but the Falcons have GOT to come to play every Sunday, God knows they get paid WAY TOO MUCH not too.

This team is NOTHING like the ones the Smith family used to trot out onto the field.
We got outcoached, alright. Our defensive coordinator, who has been doing a good job, got outfoxed this time. It happens. However, our offensive coordinator gets outcoached far more often.
In the meantime, we failed to execute on a number of things. We completely lost the battle at the line of scrimmage, whether it was on offense or defense.
We have speed on offense at the wideout spots. But we don’t know how to use it. Why? Because we keep wanting to say that we’re a power running team (which you cannot be unless you have a punishing offensive line, which we DO NOT HAVE). Where we lack speed is in the backfield, because Jerious Norwood can never seem to stick around.
If the Eagles can run reverses and tosses with DeSean Jackson, why don’t we do the same with Harry Douglas? Because that is not the Mularkey way.

I think I am turning into Rankin Smith. It must be the curse. That team we played today looked like the BEST team in the history of NFL football. But that is only because they played us. We make every body look better than they are. Why, Rankin? Talk to me, man. I don’t want to become a much hated, alcoholic owner of this cursed franchise. I want to be loved and cherished by the people. I only wanted to be loved and cherished by my players. I’m not feeling the millions of dollars of love I’ve been trying to buy. It hurts me. I think the Falcons practiced for Cleveland again last week. We need another offensive coord. Where are the quick slants and screens to combat the blitz? If fans sitting at home can see exactly what changes would work then why cant bull mularchy see it?? Teams have been blitzing forever and there are ways to beat it, but it looked like Matt Ryan and the offense had never seen it before!

Please have your GM fire the OC, that had to be the worst set of play calling I’ve ever seen. (2) Have you ever wondered why the Eagles beat the breaks off of the falcons every year? (3) We are what our record say we are, we barely beat teams we are suppose to beat, but when we play solid playoff caliber teams we get drugged in the dirt. (4) This team is not that good. (5) The QB is not special, just average so stop fooling yourself. (6) Mike Smith appears to be a very nice guy, but he has to surround himself with some innovative coaches that can transform this team to a team of the 21st century. (7) I’m a Falcon fan who stuck with the team through all the ruff years, but my patients is getting thin. If you are serious about winning championships, due what the team that win do. (Look at their rosters, look at them, they have star players, not just the old build a solid team through the draft). How many stars do you have on your teams that are recognized as stars outside of Atlanta? Who on your team gets bragged on every week on sports shows and radio? You need play makers! (8) Read the eagle comments before the game that they gave Atlanta. No respect. They didn’t say Atlanta D was good, they said they were ok and Atlanta had small corners. They said Atlanta Offence was alright but we’re prepared for them (with a back up offensive line) it want be a problem. Something to think about, when was the last time we beat a solid top ranked playoff caliber team?

The Defensive Backs: “Did you see that green and white streak whiz by me? What was that?
The Defensive End: “Wow! Clean rush to the inside; I’m gonna get me some . . . whoa, was that an end-around that just flew by me?”
The Offensive Line: “Okay, one step at a time: next play, I’m only going to let him push me two yards into the back field.”
The Quarterback: “One mississippi — nope, Gonzo ain’t open. Two mississippi — nope, Roddy ain’t open. Three mississippi, nope, HD ain’t . . . aarrgh! Uugh! Owwie . . .”
The Defensive Coordinator: “Trust me, guys. The soft zone and four-man rush will work. Just give it a chance. If we blitz and go man-to-man, we’ll surely get burned for an 83-yard touchdown.”
The Offensive Coordinator: “Okay, I’ve run all four of my plays repeatedly and nothing seems to work. Any new ideas out there? Anyone? Buehler? Anyone?”

Scott, you do realize this team has acheived the most it ever has in a 2 1/2 year span than any other staff we’ve seen? It’s not time to set the field on fire. However, Smith needs to set a fire on Mularky’s butt and make him open things up on offense. Upto this game the defense was light out. Maybe the team just went in to over confident…who knows. No one thought we truly would go 15-1 this season. 12-4 still very likely. That was my personal hopes at the beginning of the season.

This was a good learning experience for our young defense. Hopefully they won’t make these same mistakes again. I’m concerned about the health of Curtis Lofton and Robinson.
This happens every year at least once where our teams just play lousy in every facit. Unfortunately it happens when we play Philly more often than not.
Tough matchup again next week but it’s at home and the team coming in likes to throw the ball to the other team. Time to Refocus, get Spoon back and get back to winning.

Yeah, they stunk it up across the board…every facet of the game: offense, defense, special teams. They were outcoached and outplayed. And we’re fortunate to be 4-2 with the way we’ve played overall.
But my biggest concern is Matt Ryan. He seems to have regressed since his rookie year. He’s staring down receivers, not making it through his progressions (yes, I know the O-line ain’t helping things), and making bad decisions on where to throw the ball. And if he gets ANY PRESSURE WHATSOEVER he gets a serious case of happy feet (Ice? Ice??). Rarely does Ryan make something out of nothing. When he’s pressured, it’s either an incompletion, a sack, a fumble, an INT, or if we’re lucky, he’ll manage to move out of the pocket long enough to throw it away. This is not the actions of an elite QB in the NFL. I’m not ready to give up on him yet, but we have to wonder if he is what we think he is.
Maybe the coaching and the offensive scheme have conspired to make Ryan look ineffective. I’d like to see them go no huddle (even hurry-up) just to see if Ryan is capable of squeezing something more out of this offense (and also to minimize Mularkey’s unimaginative contributions). Most of the elite teams have a QB that can manage the game, and make things happen. If the Falcons want to be an elite team, they need to give Ryan more control, and let him get into the flow of the game. Maybe he’ll take-off, or maybe he’ll flop, but either way at least we’ll know what we have and proceed accordingly.
I hope this game was an abberation, and not a sign of things to come.

Can point alot of fingers but thats useless. Everybody makes mistakes. As a team overall they were flat. All the coaching in the world couldnt change that. Coaching is what you do between games . Matt Ryan needs to man up and own this loss. He is, on his very best day, an average NFL quarterback. He does not have the arm to make the tight throws, he is incapable and/or unwilling to stretch the field with long vertical routes, and ends up checking down all too often – and he doesn’t have a good enough touch to be able to make those soft check down throws. Objectively, you have to rank Ryan in the bottom 10 of starting QB’s.

I hate to say it but I told you so, just like I said the first time we face a good quarterback the secondary would get torched and it did. Brees should have beat us but they have not been playing like they did last year. We have serious problems and we are a long way from being a great team there are glaring weaknesses in this team, the secondary is the biggest. The second is Mularkey, when Atlanta went three and out the first two times trying the same old plays, it was obvious to me and everyone else that Philly had studied the tapes, they knew what we were going to do, and we needed to change thins up.That in itself was predictable Philly has a good coaching staff, when we got twenty one points behind we were still trying to run the ball, at what point does the dumb ass quit trying to manage the game and realize we have to do something different.
When his game plan works things are good but god forbid you need to make an adjustment! I don’t have all the answers but we need a new offensive scheme, I know that this year there will be no change but Smith better get his head out of his ass and make some big changes in the off season. Let me say it plainly if you just want to contend we are built for that, but in no way are we a championship team. The top teams like Pittsburgh the Patriots the Colts even New Orleans are much better coached and have far better defensive and offensive schemes than we do.BUT IT IS ALL FIXABLE, BUT MIKE SMITH NEEDS TO MAKE SOME CHANGES! Everyone who is throwing this team under the bus needs to stop. In last weeks boards everyone was saying how awesome the falcons are, and after 1 loss they are the worst team in football. The flakiness needs to stop, We are a 4-2 team still have all the potential to be #1 in the NFC. We play an old school brand of “hit you in the mouth” football, which makes it hard to put up a lot of points quickly. True, we have problems on the offensive line, Matt Ryan has problems identifying blitzes and going through progressions, and we can’t catch up when we go down big early. We are still a young team which is learning week to week. The coaches and players will learn from this and make the adjustments.
For anyone who thinks that Matt Ryan doesn’t have the talent to be one of the best QB’s in the game is just crazy. Pull up video of him at BC and watch him pick apart college defenses. When he has time to set his feet and make throws he is solid. The O-Line needs to protect the pocket better, look at Kevin Kolb in the game, he completely destroyed our defense because of the ample time he had to throw. Its true Matt Ryan is not going to buy time with his feet like Mike Vick or McNabb, but we need to stop expecting that from him and let him do what he does best, sit and throw.
Mularkey needs to definitely draw up more plays to go vertical (down the field) on teams because everyone is looking for snelling and turner to try bust it up the middle. We need to open it up for our running game. Everyone needs to stop panicking, this loss was a loss, but we are not a losing team. We will go 11-5 or 12-4 this year and make it deep it in the playoffs.

The best comment of the day by John Abraham, “they suprised us and ran plays we did not expect or practice for”. Well that won’t happen to ANY of Atlanta’s opponents. They know EXACTLY what to expect from Atlanta’s offense, week after week.
First down, run Turner, 2nd down, run Turner, 3rd and 8, pass to White or Gonzalas. It’s PURE LUCK they are 4-2.

Desean Jackson found out what happens when you play like high schoolers in the NFL. That crap only works once or twice in the NFL – the rest of the time the opposing defense will bust you in the mouth.

Sam Baker need’s to go M.Murlarkey need’s to go,BVG,need’s to go,this would be a lot to overcome but as of right now it’s like they play for the other team, and we need a quicker RB,and we need faster WR’S.Don’t get me wrong I love The Falcons but Murlarkey is way to conserveative and BVG will always get out coached by more aggressive coache’s who are’nt afraid to call screen passes and stretch the field, the Falcons coaching staff just cant handle aggressive play calling .As for Sam Baker Ryan will never have time to look to more than 1 WR as long as Baker is protecting his blind side!!!Also as much as I hate to admit it I think it’s time to find Abarham’s replacement WE NEED TO BE ABLE AND GET CONSTANT PRESSURE ON QB’S and if we can’t do it against backup’s how will we ever do it against starters (especially in games that are for play off births!!!Come on Falcons let’s get it together and put a stomping on the Bengals.

Our defense had only faced second and third string Quarter backs except for Brees and as I said they were not playing well. In those games those guys moved the ball extremely well against our defense, hell they gave us all we could handle we were not shutting anybody down. And we were giving up a lot of yardage to receivers that were wide open, and the quarterbacks missed a lot of guys that were open and a lot of passes were dropped. I watched it and I realized we were getting lucky because that secondary was making a lot of mistakes, that is why I stated that when we played a good quarterback they would light us up as happened yesterday, against a guy that is no Drew Brees but he fit the part yesterday against us.
Honestly do you think Philly could do that against Pitt or the Ravens or the jets, hell no because they have good defenses, we will get there someday but you have to have the players and more importantly the coaching staff. Even the greatest teams loose games so ok we lost and we looked bad doing it,but what is hard to accept is that our problems are obvious, and a lot of folks on this blog know what they are, why does the coaching staff not realize these things, or at least they appear not to.
I am telling you I knew Philly was going to have a huge day throwing the ball against us, I told everybody to bet against Atlanta for that reason, and yet the team was totally unprepared. So what is the answer I don’t know but it is damn sure not more of the same !

I’m still sticking with my prediction of 10 wins this season and the playoffs but I don’t expect to go much further with Mike Mularkey at the helm. With the talent on this team there is no way that we should get blown out like that. Everyone knew, fan or not, at times we will have to rely on our offense to hang in games. A fun first teams simply means that a team runs when they want to. By that definition, we are not. You do what works and give the team a chance to win. I’m just tired or Mularkey’s schemes.

Atlanta will do to Murlarkey what Pittsburgh had done and that was get rid of him for his lack of play calling and creativeness. Soon after the change they won superbowls under Wisenhaunt. There are a few spots that need upgrading which are LT, WR, RB,and LB. Baker isn’t getting it done, White needs someone to help him stretch the field, Peterson is to slow, a factor back with speed, and possibly a DE since Sidbury isn’t nowhere to be found.

Blackbird 8:35am – last contender we beat was 2 weeks ago on the road. They were last years SB champs. I do have to agree with getting a new OC. If what we bring doesn’t work we have no other options. Games over.
Random thoughts: This team will learn. Next year, I’m for building a much better OL. We need a new LT. Baker maybe OK at RT.
One problem – looked like Abraham kept going inside for a sack and left the outside wide open. No one playing at home. We were out coached.
Turner looks like about 1/2 the time, he runs into the blockers back and not in the gaps. I don’t mean a couple yards downfield but when at the line of scrimmage.
Jenkins looked pretty good.
Not to imply what Robinson did was OK, but I think some teams are going to start dreading to play some of the hard hitters we have now.
All in all, we’ll be OK.

I hate this “defensless reciever (crap)rule” If you don’t want to get your guy injured then the QB’s got to know not to leave them open to those hits. I grudgingly agree with helmet to hemet calls (which Robinson’s hit was not), but Robinson’s hit was perfectly within the spirit of football as it should be. The NFL needs to stop trying to eliminate injury from football. To get injury out of football, you have to take football out of football.

We need to get a pass rusher or a better cover coner. You can’t be without both. Although ryan is young, he still has to step up and make better plays(throws). Right now he is iffy. Got to be more cinsistent. It would help if we picked up another target for him to throw to. Gonzo and Roddy can’t do it by themselves. And im not even going to mention Turner…. wow. We need to look at replacing him through the draft next yr or free agency. We can still pull this thing together if we can atleast adress one of the issues above. If not, 9-7 at best.

But what we witnessed yesturday wasn’nt great it was an embarrassment. the game plan was terrible but i’m sure that all changed when we went down 21-0 so you had to adjust your game plan at that time. but now when it was 7-0… we couldnt move the ball at all. The Eagles had the better game plan, which means that maybe the Falcons were outcoached by Reid and his staff.
Have the Falcons started any games this year without handing the ball to Turner, or do they ever hand the ball off to Turner, less that 99.99% on 1st down?
This is just one game, the Falcons will make the necessary adjustments, and move on to the next game, which they will win.

Matt Ryan mostly throws the ball in the flats and to the check down player, he is very timid in the pocket. There are at least 4 receivers over 6′3″ (White, Jenkins, Gonzalez, Finnerin) and a speedster (Douglas) and Matt Ryan aren’t using their height or speed as an advantage. There are no passes over 15 yards. Where are the slant passes for 3rd and short. Turner the rice burner was actually running out of bounds to avoid contact. Turner was taken down on numerous tackles by 1 guy, oftentimes a much smaller guy. Atlanta’s Defensive line gave Philly’s quarterback all the time he wanted to throw the ball, no pressure what-so-ever, Kolb was never rushed or hurried the whole game and that was a new, put together offensive line for Philly. Falcon’s special team is not special at all. We need a return man with some kind of speed threat. Falcons in the red zone is so sad it’s almost laughable.

When you say that we will learn and make adjustments you lack understanding, that is what we are complaining about, the falcons seem unable to make adjustments. They make a game plan and it is all they do whether it works or not,and it is a very simple plan, that the other coaches can easily determine and prepare for, first down run, second roll out to the right try for Roddy, and third down throw to Gonzalez open or not, then repeat at least three times. When we are getting pressure on Ryan you have to run draws, screens and roll outs just like Philly did, but we just run Turner for no gain, or Matt has a rushed pass or a sack. I will admit we saw a little bit of what could be with Jenkins and Douglas yesterday, if that side of the field gets going White and Gonzo will tear them up,and that will open up the running game. I want to defend Turner a bit he has nowhere to run, the holes are just not there when we play some teams. That is part the line and part Turner he is not the best at seeing there is no hole and changing the direction of the play, he just runs into the pile. If you give him a little hole Turner is a beast, we need two things on our offense a Wes welker type receiver and I think Douglas just might turn out to be that, and we need a Regie Bush type back to supplement Turner. The problem is we have two big bruiser backs, and if you can stop one you can stop the other.
If we had those two player types to add to what we got now we would be very hard to stop. Now they load the box on runs and blitz on passes, and we have problems if they get pressure on Mat. In addition before you cover White and Gonzo and we were done, but I see real potential now with Dougllas in the slot and Jenkins returning as our wide out. It should help open the run and the passing game it will make us much harder to defend, IF MAT HAS TIME TO THROW THE DAMN BALL..

well its obvious that the falcons have played only one true game and thats against the stellers and special team dropped the ball too lose.
understanding that matt ryan is and average QB, very good for college but the NFL is a different monster, in 3 yrs he has digressed to mediocore, equal redman, parker shouldnt even be there.
spped is the falcon biggest problem, defense avg around 4.5, too slow need to be as most teams now avg 4.4 & 4.3, perry showed up for one play, no help with the giant for abraham,Vandergorg need to go imediately he cant coach my little league team, all your bd’s play too far off the offensive player, no bump and run, cant play man to man, and surely cant tackles m maybe two hitters out of eleven.
yes the falcons have too many holds to withstand the good teams, now on to offense:RB, Turner need to ride the bench till he’s ready to play again, snelling needs to start ,he plays much harder, dump the dudd norwood, and get you another speester, why you havent played Antiono smith.
as for your o-line with the eception of Dahwl the rest are dudd’s, WR’s: teams are always going to double white, jenkins back, too soon to report but where is your down field player that spread the defense, you passed on T.O, you passed on Moss and it looks like you are going to pass on Vincent Jackson, oh well.
Mularkey will never be great at OC dont like change once the game start, I dont know or understand why VG is still in atlanta as DC, true this is the firt whooping, but if you watched Clevland pressed there button. maybe just maybe Mike Smith will wake up, but he’s stuck on matty whose still in college mode, sorry that how I see it, been a fan since 1970, falcon got to play a different game and stop marching to the same drum.

I was listening to one of the “learned” announcers saying that the Falcons are one of the most consistent teams in the NFL, I had to LOL because i think they are one of the most inconsistent!
Later I got to thinking and I realized the announcer was right! The Falcons, especially on offense,
are CONSISTENTLY predicctable. 1st down, Turner up the middle, 2nd and long, Snelling slides off a block and curls in behind the defensive line, pass almost intercepted by one of 3 defenders around him, 3rd and long D blitzes, Ryan quick dangerous pass to Roddy in the flats. The offense is a bunch of MULARKEY!!!! Why do we not have screen passes in our playbook? If we are goiing to throw high risk passes, why not throw them 40-50 yards downfield? Why, to my knowledge, have
Turner and Snelling never been in the same backfield (Snelling is the backup FB)? I think everyone on the offensive side of the ball has good talent and with the right game plan should score on jjust about anybody. Baker to me is the only weak link on the offense. Look at the Patriots. Only the QB excels over Ryan, and maybe their left tackle. Our other players are equal to or better. Some Falcon fans think our receivers are too slow – tell that to Wes Welker. Patriot running backs are average at best. So that leaves DA COACH!?! No aggression on either side of the ball. Soft D! Easy-to-read blitzes! The EAGLES D looked like they were calling offensive plays for the Falcons! The Eagles are aggressive on both sides of the ball. BVG should watch the Eagles defense and take some notes.
The past three weeks the Falcons have taken the field looking like they did not have a clue as to who they were playing. Saint near the goal line, not one defender lined up on Jeremy Shockey to hit him and disrupt the timing with Brees’ favorite red zone target. Browns’ Senaca Wallace played like a seasoned All-Pro QB – we were lucky he got hurt! The Eagles played their normal game and the Falcons played “prevent” which prevented any shot at a win.
Climbing down off my soap box. Love the Falcons, but hate to see coaching holding back a team with great potential!

The Falcons are overrated. They have an average offense and defense.

To be an elite team you got to go on the road and win. Not by luck, you need a true hard win.

matty ice weighs 160 ponds of course he is not physically fit for pro football, and i have seen at least 6 dropped interceptions by opposing defenses. i told my friend in matts second year that i dont think he will make it well now everyone else is finally seeing it he averages about 170 yards a game pleaseeee. they had jarrious who should have been a defensive coordinators worst dream coming out the backfield in motion but never used him to that affect JUST BECAUSE WE FANS DONT GET PAID TO COACH DOES NOT MEAN WE DONT KNOW WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT I HAVE SAID IT A THOUSAND TIMES EVEN IF THEY GO 10-6 THIS YEAR OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR HAS TO FREAKIN GO THE PEACE
