The Aftermath: What the players were saying . . .

CLEVELAND – The locker room was upbeat in the bowels of Cleveland Browns Stadium after the Falcons posted their fourth consecutive victory.

There was some talk of converting defensive end Kroy Beirmann to a running back after that 31-yard touchdown run.

“I was on the sideline,” quarterback Matt Ryan said. “It was a great play. It was huge just to block the pass on third down. Then to come up with the interception and come up to his feet, it looked like he was running toward the sidelines and then he made a right hand turn to the endzone. He did a good job of adjusting.”

Here’s what the players were talking about after the game:

KROY BIERMANN, defensive end

ON HIS TOUCHDOWN: “I had to get my bearings or something. I knew I was going to try and get up. Maybe I was just looking to see which way I needed to run.”

ON TEAM BEING 20-1 WHEN LEADING GOING INTO THE FOURTH QUARTER: “I think it speaks to the character of this team that we are going to keep fighting until the end. Whether if we are down or ahead, we want to keep going and we’re going to continue to fight.”

JOHN ABRAHAM, defensive end

ON PEYTON HILLIS: “He’s a hard runner.”

JONTHAN BABINEAUX, defensive tackle

ON STOPPING THE RUN: “We knew he had to come through one of those holes and as long as we stayed gap sound we thought we’d be able to control the run today.”

ON KROY’S PLAY: “That was real huge. He just made a play. I got there and celebrated with him. It’s not too often a (defensive) lineman gets a touchdown so we celebrated with him.”

JAMAAL ANDERSON, defensive end

ON STOPPING THE RUN: “Staying sound in our gaps, swarming and gang tackling. He’s a big man and it’s hard for one man to bring him down. We made sure we had multiple men swarming to the ball.”

ON KNOWING HILLIS: “We came in the same year (at Arkansas). I played against him since high school, since the 9th grade. He plays the same way. Jumping over guys. . . I’ve seen him do that before.”

SEAN WEATHERSPOON, linebacker

ON STOPPING THE RUN: “We knew, in their (division) that everybody is tough and they like to run the ball. We had to come out with that mindset that we could stop the run.”

ON RODDY’S TOUCHDOWN: “Big plays are contagious. We hit it down the middle.”

ON HOLDING HILLIS TO 28 YARDS: “We had to do a great job of just getting down there and putting some pads on a guy like that. He’s tough. He also has skills. He’s a guy who can hit you at anytime for a big play. He’s a tough back.”

The defense continues to impress me through five games so far. That side of the ball has improved tremendously over a year ago. Like Sean Weatherspoon said, they knew they had to stop Peyton Hillis – and they did it.

Solid effort from the team today. Gotta fix ST.

Beirmann is relentless.

JA98 had a sack today…maybe a transformation is afoot?

Turner romped for a nice gain and 19 for 140 sounds more like the Turner we love!

Roddy White is all-pro now….big plays every game….elite.

MR got off to a slow start and was hammered by the Browns D-line. A couple of times I was wondering where in the blank Clabo was. You have to admire the toughness of Matt Ryan…and his icewater viens, but damn I swear Clabo makes at least 3 dumb plays per game that get Matty Ice piledriven.

But I’m happy with the win and the resiliency of this Falcons team. They never give up and never lie down!

Need to win next week at Philly to be an elite team. Defense looks sharp but Ryan needs to play much better. Dont like to see him run backwards from the pocket. Kills the drives by doing that. Mularkey needs to trash the trick plays and use Turner more in the redzone. This team has improved vastly just need to tighten it up on the offense. Lets go Atl dont let Vick show us up again.

Alone atop of the division……………………it is just damn sweet……..!!!

So many accolades to throw around……special teams played well……….that blocked field goal could have been critical….Ice showed some arm, awesome pass…… defense held “the Beast” to 28 yards rushing, Ryan with no INT’s, sacked the opposing QB 3 times, Cleveland tried to take us to the carpet a few times and our Birds said, “Nope, ain’t happening”. Look, for those of you who haven’t figured it out we got us one tough sum bitz QB…………he took some hits today and put it right back in there faces. Look, Cleveland brought a good game plan and some tough players but they got a standing room only line at the first aid station……….not that we could not have won without that but a win in the dog pound is significant. Hopefully we can cross the state line and pick up a W next week………….l!!!

That was a heads up play, at the end of the game by Kory beirmann he exuded good athleticism. John Abraham had a good day against Pro bowler Joe Thomas. How about( top flight) Roddy White again making the big play. Turner had a good day against a stingy run defense. Let’s give credit to the falcons offensive line. They made the corrections at halftime and it payed off. I still think the blindside help is suspect. Matt Ryan’s passes are becoming more accurate. In all, every week guys are stepping up and making plays. That in itself makes me feel good about this team.

I know this game won’t get much attention from NFL Network or ESPN, but the Falcons played really well today. The defense was fantastic. They kept Peyton Hillis to only 28 yards!!! Offense didn’t look sharp all the time, but they made enough plays to win. I loved the play where Ryan escaped pressure, rolled to his right, and passed the ball all the way across the field to Gonzalez.

Bring on the Iggles!!!! I hope our Falcons go up to Filthadelphia and kick some major butt!! We need payback after the way they humiliated us in the Dome last year. Andy Reid putting Vick in to score touchdowns against a team that he had no reason to have a “grudge” against really ticked me off. I used to like Reid before that game. Hope Vick is able to play and I hope Ryan totally outplays him, so that we can stop all the nonsensical Ryan vs. Vick chatter on these blogs. GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!

Terriffic win today against a physical team on the road. Well done.

Loved the long pass to Roddy. That said, I don’t think they finished well today. Especially in the first half. The defense did a tremendous job, the offense I still feel could play better. They left points on the board.

I really like how physical this team has become.

I also like that…even though they came up short a few times, they always seem to find enough points to win. Love that.

I just think they have more points in them on offense.

Up watching sports center…. I guess for no reason. Highlighted EVERY GAME except the Falcons. I like the fact that we are under the radar…. But I dislike the comments about IF we can keep up with the Saints…. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! They lost to the Cardinals, which we beat 41 to “it doesn’t matter”…. And yet… We need to catch up? ESPN is a joke. Also… We had the highlight of the week with that interception and touchdown. Whatever, GO FALCONS. Turner is heating up… LOVING THE DEFENSE! Eagles next, I know we are still sore from last time. POP THEM IN THE MOUTH!

I don’t see any real bad teams this year,I just see teams that haven’t won much. That being said the Falcons are finding ways to win. The Falcons are in first because they earned it,I don’t care what other people say about them. Do I think they could be better? Yes I do. Most of the wins aren’t pretty, but they are wins. I hope they keep finding ways to win, sundays have been good this year.

Falcon corners present and past who are better than Dunta Robinson — Deion (Duh), Chris Owens, Brent Grimes, Brian Williams, Dominique Foxworth, Bobby Butler, Roland Lawrence, Kenny Johnson. Sadly, even Charles Dimry, Bruce Pickens, Jimmy Williams.

So far, Dunta = A big ZERO.
