Is William Moore taking over at strong safety?

Strong safety William Moore retained the starting job even though Erik Coleman was active for the game.

Moore turned in a couple of key plays, one an interception in the third quarter to stop a promising San Francisco drive.

“It was just a great call and scheme that we had,” Moore said. “Overall, we were just baiting the quarterback.”

In the fourth quarter, he came on a delayed blitz, got a sack and forced quarterback Alex Smith into an intentional grounding penalty.

“I was just getting an opportunity to play a little faster and I’m trying to show them what I can do,” said Moore, who finished with four tackles.

The Falcons held San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith to a 65.6 quarterback rating.

“The effort of the team was outstanding. We fought on each side of the ball, offense, defense and special teams,” Moore said. “We are going to make mistakes, but we have to overcome those.”

Coleman suffered a strained medial collateral ligament in the season opener against Pittsburgh and has missed the last two games.

“It’s a great situation, but it’s a tough circumstance,” Moore said. “You don’t want anybody to go down. I feel like that’s what you’re supposed to do in the NFL; step in when your number is called. I’m gaining trust from the coaches and support from my teammates.”

Entering the 2010 season, Coleman had started 31 of 32 games with the Falcons. In 2008, he started at free safety. Last season, he was moved over to strong safety.

In 2008, Coleman had a career-high 127 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Last season, Coleman broke his career-high with 139 tackles.

He started his career with the New York Jets after being selected in the fifth round of the 2004 draft. He was signed by the Falcons as a free agent on March 1, 2008.

Moore was the team’s second round pick in the 2009 draft. He missed most of last season with hamstring and knee injuries. He later battled a groin injury over the offseason.

“I used last year as motivation to stay on the field and show what I can do,” Moore said.

Coleman was brought in as a FS – Lawyer Milloy was the SS that year. Falcons drafted Moore to start at SS and when he went down, moved Coleman to SS and DeCoud took over the FS spot.

With Moore now starting, Erik may get a shot at his old position. He plays better at FS.

Moore is still young, but he seems to be a quick study. I think he has two interceptions and at least one sack. I can see why Eric can’t get his job back, this guy Moore is productive.

Moore has been looking better each week and seems to be getting comfortable in this defense. He only will get better over the season. I believe the coaching staff will give him more freedom as he gains their confidence. Now, if only Decoud can go back to the level he was playing last year.

SeenThisB4 ,

Um….you mean that big ol’ mean offense that scored all of one touchdown against the hapless Carolina kitty cats? You’d be 2-2 if you hadn’t hired a kicker from the stone age to do your scoring for you.

And it’s kinda hard when you have no running game. Ol’ Breesy has to get all the yardage by himself. Y’all can’t get shawty some help?

I agree with you that DeCoud needs to pick it up but noway he’ll lose his job this early. But like you i’m loving the play of W.Moore and i’m so glad they didn’t give up on him before we (the fans) got a chance to see what they saw when they drafted him. I hate it for Mr Coleman but i don’t see them sitting Moore back down now. And B4 what you smoking that’s some goooood shi# lol

Its Decoud not Coleman.. He’s a horrible safety. The big run in Pittsburgh. The big run by Arizona. The big pass in NO. He’s been out of position on all those plays.. He’s like MeAngelo Falls. Thats the only weakness I see on the D. Robinson is showing up and Grimes is Lights out.. Grimes has the most heart Ive seen in a while. If we had a better safety we might be feared in the league as a great D..

I kept hearing how William Moore is a stud, just wait and see. Well, now that he is playing I get it. That guy seems to be everywhere. Another great pick by Dimitroff, along with his patient long-term planning. It is working. It is all working. We have holes, but every year they are fewer and farther between, and they are filled with fast young, hungry team players.

Geez, I don’t know how many more of these games I can take. Next week I’m bringing a defibulator with me.

Actually, I like it like that, some competition is good. BUT, that doesn’t mean that I am by any stretch of the imagination even inclined to pull for the filthy fowl of ATL. Absolutely not. Just as I am aware that neither would you be pulling for the current Super Bowl Champions, that wouldn’t be right.

However, just to be clear, the Saints dominated their 0-4 opponent in every category, except turnovers. Can your team say they dominated their 0-4 opponent in every category? Except for final score, the answer is NEAUX!

Charles, I am not using the Saints’s injuries as an excuse. The Saints dominated Carolina, but gave them gifts to keep the game close. The 49ers dominated your team but gave your team gifts to keep them close enough to give the falcan’t the opportunity to win, which they did. Some would call that “luck”. And just like most of your falcan’t fans discounted the Saints wins last year to luck, I discount the falcan’t wins this year too, because you got lucky. Granted, the ‘Niners played us tough but no way did they “dominate” and neither did we. Other than a bogus PI call that set them up for an easy TD, our Defense shut them down. As for the blocked punt, there’s no excuse for that, however, it was a shortened field due to Koenen punting from the back of the endzone. In neither case were they “dominant”–just good enough. Atlanta could easily be 1-3, but they could just as easily be 4-0….

Seen——It has been so entertaining for us to hear your moronic diatribes but it is really time for you tp put up or shut up. Let me explain, as I need to use small words for you to unterdstand.
Simply put, tell me, no tell all of us Falcon Fans, why your team is better. Tell us all how their struggles against the Vikings, 49ers, Falcons and Panthers have all been an illusion. Tell us how this is still last season and how the Saints haven’t been using smoke and mirrors to prop themselves up for a 3-1 start. Tell us all about how Greg Williams has the defense rolling. Tell us all about Drew Brees and the offense don’t really look one dimensional. Tell us all about Sean Peyton’s inability to use the same magic formula as last season. Well, we’re waiting!
We all know that you can’t make any of those arguments sound intelligent; as you have not been able to put forth one intelligent argument since you first started posting on the AJC. I have analyzed your team time and time again and the only thing you could say was, “We are the champs.” Well, now it appears as though you are the NFC South chumps!!!!!
Lastly, I will leave you with this, the Saints time was last season. This season and this time belongs to someone else!!!! And the word is GO; not geaux.
Who dat gonna beat dem Saints?
Anyone with a good runningback!!!!!

That’s funny.

The 49ers lost to the Saints because they kept turning the ball over and giving them more chances to win the game. The Saints won against Carolina because their kicker scored most of their points, as their vaunted offense could only muster a single touchdown.

Strange how when the Saints win like this, it’s because of their skill and greatness. But when we win like this, it’s pure luck. What the “F” ever.

It must have really, really hurt to get beaten in your own dome by a “perennial loser” after an entire preseason of trash talk. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be this much nonsensical propaganda. And if you can’t stand a team and the fans of a team…then why LIVE on their blogs? LOL…

Glad you’re back. Looks like things are getting interesting. The real bottom line, both teams have played well at times and both have not at times. But, as “someone” said once, wins are wins. It is getting fun!

“The Falcons are more than an investment to Arthur, they were his favorite team before he bought them and still are.”

Good point because if i owned the Falcons, i would be passionate as well. Arthur Blank is a classy gentlemen. I liked how he honored past pro bowl Falcons. I am happy to have him as the owner of my favorite team!

aints fans say we got lucky against the 49ers but they dont realize the 49ers offense only scored in the 1st quarter and you haved to realize we were going up against a new offensive coordinator and didnt know what to expect and then the 49ers scored on a blocked punt…the falcons played the better football.

I love Matt Ryan he’s a good quarterback, but he’s not great and never will be. He’s gun shy, has happy feet, and checks down too early to avoid pressure. The other Ryan (Mallett) will be a great quarterback barring a major injury. His arm is stronger than Ryan’s, he’s bigger and does not get happy feet. Brett Favre was the same way as Mallett in college and I remember Favre almost single-handedly beating UGA in Athens (Favre’s team lost, but barely) when he was in college. The Falcons will win with Ryan because he’s good enough to win, but I don’t see him being a Pro Bowl selection ever. I still love Matty Ice at QB for the birds because he’s a good fit. I just wish we had a way to get the Razorback Matt. Boy would I recievers stats explode and our running game become even more potent and they’re both not bad now.

You denied all luck that was handed to the Saints last year then sound like a broken record saying the exact same thing that you made fun of. Honestly???? Hey Y’all:

All those draft picks (8) from last year are starting to pay off. These young guys with the veteraans will be household names in the NFL by the end of the year. The “PROCESS” continues in establishing the Atlanta Falcons as a year to year football prominent team in the NFL. “Back to Back” winning season was just the beginning. Blank, Mckay, Dimtroff, Smth and the other coaches know what they want to put on the field to play their “AGGRESSIVE” style of football from year to year. Everyone in Atlanta was asking for a “good product” on the field. Well, we have “ONE”, and I AM LOVING IT!! Every week is a good game with our Falcons winning. GET USE TO IT Y’ALL!! This is how it looks in New England, Pittsburgh, Indiannapolis. Cities with continuos winning programs from year to year. Now we have “ONE” in Atlana being built in front of our eyes here in Atlanta. The team plays hard and with dedication. They play TOGETHER In “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” on OFFENSE and DEFENSE. And they only are going to get better as the season goes on: ONE GAME AT A TIME. That’s the formula: ONE GAME AT A TIME.

THEN, WE DO THIS IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” WE RISE IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” WE WIN IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” WE ARE IN THE SUPER BOWL, IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!”. LET’s DO THIS!!!! THE PROCESS CONTINUES. IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!!!” “WE RISE” IN “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!!” CAN YOU HEAR THE BEAT!!!??? THUMP!! IT’S GETTING LOUDER!!!!!THUMP!!THUMP!!!…….

LET’s GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

……………………”ONE HEARTBEAT, BABY!!!!……………….

Who cares about this loser Saints’ fan? Nothing wrong with trash talk (or Saints fans), but there’s a time & place. Anyway, that sack by Moore was one of the pivotal moments that won the game for us. Dude’s for real. I’m really proud of our defense. After four games it seems legitimately improved. What struck me the most in the last game was Ryan’s composure & cohesiveness with the receivers when it counted the most. Looks like we’ve finally arrived.

You can say all you want about luck. Luck is taking advantage of mistakes that you induce in others.

Go FALCONS!!

I think I have changed in my opinion about B4. No way should he be banned. Yes, he is irritating, shouldn’t be posting about the Taints on a Falcons blog all the time, and he is basically a piss-ant.
But he hasn’t done anything wrong. I agree with tjhook, he doesn’t use bad language.

Here’s what I’m starting to think. He’s a joke. I don’t mean that in a detrimental way, I mean he is pulling this over on us. His constant barrage of Taints crap could not be sincere. He is playing us and laughing as we get so upset with him. Think about it. The guy is good. It takes a lot of patience to go so far and so long to fool with us. It’s a kind of sick genius.

So, Mr. SeenthisB4, the jig is up. You have been figured out. We are on to you. Just keep up the act, we will laugh and ignore you and move on. Don’t go away. We will take you as entertainment and smile and move on.

It was apparent at the 9ers game that the more vulnerable corner is our high priced FA Robinson. His was the typical “let ‘em make the catch, then I’ll tackle them” NFL coverage. Grimey is playing at a high level and his ball skills seem to have improved markedly. He’s always in the receiver’s pocket — nearly got another great pick in that game — and is outplaying his comrade for about 1/50th the salary. Was interesting to hear Harry Douglas call him “the best athlete I’ve ever seen, anywhere.” Go Grimey!

It looks like I was right when I predicted the AINTS would struggle because of their SORRIER THAN LAST YRS SORRY 25TH RANKED DEF, WHICH IS NOW RANKED 30TH. What I didn’t realize until now, was that last yrs OFF, which was classified as prolific, achieved that distinction as a result of the ability of last yrs DEF to score a lot of pts, or put the OFF in easy scoring position. With their DEF being unable to replicate last yrs production, the so called PROLIFIC AINTS OFF is anything but.

While AINT FANS worship QB DBrees, and know he’s the key to any success they might have, DEF’s are now putting a whipping on his little butt, and getting results. He’s started to consistently do things he didn’t do last yr, like throwing INT’s and missing open WR’s.

SEENTHISB4-We lost several key starters last yr(QB, RB, LT, RG, DT, both CB’s)all at one time, and we remained very competitive. You’ve lost ONE(1)player, and your PROLIFIC OFF has become anything but. You’re basically a 2 man OFF, QB DBrees and RB RBush. And while you keep trying to make excuses for your struggles, you won’t even try to address or discuss the reality of why it’s really happening, so I’ll do it for you. Your DEF isn’t getting the luck or big plays it got last yr, and without the scoring support or your DEF, the OFF has struggled and been exposed.

Our DEF is getting better with each passing gm, which gives our OFF something to fall back on. On the other hand, your DEF and OFF are getting worse with each passing gm. At the rate you’re struggling, YOUR BELOVED AINTS WILL BE LUCKY TO EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

I HOPE YOU AINT FANS ENJOYED YOURSELVES THIS OFF SEASON, BECAUSE REALITY IS NOW SLAPPING ALL OF YOU IN THE FACE. IT APPEARS YOU ARE TOO DELUSIONAL, AND CAUGHT UP IN LAST YRS EXCITEMENT, TO EVEN RECOGNIZE THIS ISN’T LAST YR. IT’S A NEW SEASON AND YOU’RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE.
