FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons coach Mike Smith moved the team’s practice indoors on Thursday.

“It was pouring down rain when we started practice today,” Smith said. “We looked at the radar and that told us it was going to rain all day.”

He gave us some updates on the injured players, a rookie linebacker Sean Weatherspoon didn’t practice for the second day:

ON WR MICHAEL JENKINS: “We would like to get him back as quick as possible. It’s going to be him being cleared by the doctors. He is participating in practice again this week. That participation is much more than what he did last week. He will get evaluated here at the end of the week and we’ll make a decision as we get closer to game time. He has ramped up his reps this week.”

ON LB SEAN WEATHERSPOON: “He did not practice again today. He was out. He still has an issue with his (right) ankle. We will try again tomorrow. He worked with our athletic performance people. That’s something that flaired up after the game. We will re-evaluate him on Friday.”

ON SS ERIK COLEMAN: “It was good to see Erik come back and participate two days in a row. It was a little bit more limited in terms of snaps because we were here (indoors) on the turf. We want to just make sure that we’re not going to hurt that knee. Erik has done a wonderful job with the people in the training room coming back from the MCL injury.”

they need to just hold Weatherspoon out this week. Anybody that has had a sprained ankle knows you don’t go out jogging 7 days later – and football is more intense than jogging.

‘Spoon is not going to play this week – mark it down.

Hey B4 – you and hiramsaint should now realize this AINT 2009. Yea, the Saint’s won a Super Bowl, congratulations. But, this is a new year and a new NFC South. There is still a lot of football to be played. Welcome to the new 2010 football season.

I just realized we’re not that good this year. Our d isnt the same, and our Offense is less explosive. we cant run the ball. our toughest games are on the road. crap.

On the side of caution, the Falcons should be heavily favored over the next two games. No need to rush Spoon or Jenkins back to soon before these two games.

The Falcons have enough horses to get the job done without Jenkins or Spoon.

Hopefully, Coach Smith use good judgment with these two key players.

Seen. It must have been rough watching your beloved Aints take a beat down on that 10 minutes plus drive the Falcons put on them. Keep your chin up dude,, you still have a pretty good team,, gave the Falcons all they could handle.

This is bad news, but if the Niners play the way they played last week, it will be a well deserved week off for Spoon.

A couple questions for DOL, what happend to Trey Lewis, is he injured? Also, it doesn’t seem that Peria Jerry is getting a lot of playing time, but Corey Peters was in for several snaps last week. What is the situation there, considering Jerry was the better prospect coming out of college?

(Trey is the last lineman. They are bringing Jerry back slowly. –dol)

FrozenDope: Drew’s knee is fine, just a bruise. Our kicker, like most kickers, is a head case. He’s got talent though, somewhere. Just didn’t have it in overtime last week.

Though, the shank was almost worth the face of anguish on Smith, the face of helplessness on Ryan (which by the way, when he wears that helmet on his head, looks like one of the apes on Planet of the Apes) and the evidence of urine on the pants of the falcant fans. Almost.

I know Turner will be our #1 back for the foreseeable future, but he really lacks any of the explosion we saw in him in SD and in his first year in Atlanta. He’s become primarily a plodding RB, grinding out 2-3 yard gains, with an occasional 8 yarder mixed in. Snelling looks far more explosive and violent in the way he runs, and I just have a hunch that if he was given 30 carries in that NO game, he would have had 150+ yards and 2 tds out of it. I’m a huge Falcons fan, but just calling it like I see it. DOL, maybe this could be a blog post one day?

‘Spoon going down makes me regret cutting Bear Woods even more. I know we have adequate depth at LB, but I still get concerned when we lose our best tackler(or one of them) even for a game….

My biggest concern is the play call constantly leaving us in 3rd an long situations. We repeatedly ran on 2nd downs after unsuccessful 1st down passes. Was very predictable and very reminiscent of the Greg Knapp years (heaven forbid).

You know you have to give those Saints fans their due. I mean here they make a big deal over their kicker missing a game winning field goal but you don’t hear one word about the freak play where their punt hit our guy on the foot to give them the ball back so that they could tie the game. If you are going to talk about fate and what should have happened, lets explore what would have happened had the ball not been touched by a Falcon player. The Falcon offense would have gotten the ball in good field position and driven down the field and either scored a TD (most likely) or a field goal while eating up the clock. This would have made it a resounding and dominating victory for the Falcons (as the time of possession reflected) and an utter humiliation for the Saints. So, Saints fans thank your lucky stars for that one freak play that gave your kicker the opportunity to miss a 29 yard field goal. By all that is football he should have never been in position to miss it to start with.

Seen,

I agree this is a forum for smack and it does, AND SHOULD, get a little rough and heated at times. Good and so be it. HOWEVER, what you do by constantly and consistently just insulting Falcon Fans on their blog is tantamount to constantly sending hate letters to your neighbor. After a while, he’s gonna come over and punch you in the nose!

OUR game with the Taint’s is over. We’ve put up with your GEAUX $HIT for weeks on end.

Now be RELEVANT and be courteous. Are you a man or a mouse? You have wore out your welcome. You are yesterday’s news. You are the in-laws that have stayed past three days.

Waynester, why do you continuely support Bear Woods? Has any team picked him up? If he is as good as you seem to think he is Smitty could resign him. Spoon to rest this week. Our interchangeable players at the LB position will do just fine. 49ers play tough, but will fall 21-10.

Nicholas is gonna start this game and thats fine. I’m sure he is itching to get in anyway and has a chip on his shoulder for being demoted. He’s gonna play with passion to prove to coaches he should be in. Let Spoon rest. He’s already proving to be a great pick. I see him all over the place.
