Behind enemy lines: Vilma gives his take on the Falcons

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma in action (Rusty Costanza/The Times-Picayune)

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma in action (Rusty Costanza/The Times-Picayune)

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s weekend is off to a great start.

He had to be pleased with how The U” dismantled the Pitt Panthers on ESPN last night.

He did a Q & A for PlaymakerMoble.com and gave some insights to the game.

Vilma, who had the key tipped pass late in last season’s game at the Superdome, is expecting another close battle.

VILMA: I expect a tough game from the Falcons. Even though we started 13-0 last season and beat the Falcons twice during that stretch, they were close games. We won by three points, I believe, at their place, on a fourth-down stop actually, to seal that victory. Then it was a close game at our house, less than seven points, I think. These matchups, we don’t expect a blowout. We know it’s going to be a grind, and winning a division game is almost like winning two games because of tiebreakers, so we have to get after it.

He calls the Falcons offensive line “gritty.” He talks about losing Reggie Bush and noted that he plans to keep an eye out for a certain No. 44, who had 186 total yards and was named the NFC offensive player of the week.

These are not the same ole’ Falcons. The game in Pittsburgh was a hard loss, however the team took care of business against the Cards. Folks have talked about the Cards being a poor team. In the NFL, you still have to line up and show it on the field. The Falcons dominated a team that they should have dominated in all three facets of the game. It’s “Feeding Time” and the hunting ground is the Superdome. Oh yeah, FIRST!!!!

Be careful when you go hunting in the Superdome, the Saints are extremely adept at bagging wild prey there too. And I think, we’re going to have some falcant gumbo Sunday afternoon.

B4,
That is the difference this year. The Falcons are no longer “wild” in the sense of which you speak. They are a very organized and disciplined pack of hungry hunters. Your only meal on Sunday afternoon will be Smashmouth soup with a few slices of Humble pie.

Wat’s up waynester. Listen up, you need to keep a stiff upper lip after your falcants get their tailfeathers kicked. With the way the cowboys and vikings are imploding, your team should still have a shot at the wildcard.

falkonfan: After your team lost to a third string QB, this board was rift with disheartment, disappointment, disgust, and dismay. Then you beat a cardinal team, still reeling from a QB fiasco, on your own home field, and you actually start boasting about how you’re going to beat the defending World Champions. Not only that, but you have the gall to use the “disciplined” adjective in referring to your pretender team. Ah, ha, ha, ha!

You are the one my friend who should open your eyes. First, you incorrectly assume I am a man; I am woman. Second, I just said I don’t post much; I was as upset by the loss as the next fan, however I did not believe the loss was something to throw the towel in on the whole year. Third, There are no “gimmes” in the NFL; Yes Pittsburgh had some QB issues but so did Zona. You can’t use that argument to bash us in one breathe and use it in the next breathe to attempt a backhanded compliment in the other. Make up your mind!! Backhanded compliment definition”A backhanded compliment or left-handed compliment is an insult that is disguised as a compliment. The term usually connotes an intent to belittle or condescend.

this game will come down to whose defense is better. if ATL’s D can stop Brees, then we walk away with a win. I saw DLED stats that NO is 17-16 vs ATL in the superdome. seems pretty even matched to me. look for turner/snelling to have a great game and roddy to score at least 1td

NO has won 6 in a row at home. Before that it was 16-11 in favor of ATL.

That’s OK. We solved the Chuck & Duck last year. Now we need to go down there and make it OUR HOUSE again.

Was right about winning on the road. Typically, if you win most of your home games and half on the road, you’re in the hunt. This team has been great at home under Smith–now they just need to add “road warrior” to it’s resume….

FrontRow

Learning to win on the road has been part of the “process” all 3 years.

This regime is intent on playing much more conservative on the road than at home – on both sides of the ball. They finished well last year given 2 trips to the Meadowlands (tough tough in NOV-DEC) yeilded an OT loss and a W won by stuffing the best running team in the NFL (Jets).

So far this year a darn good (not great) effort against a stout Steelers D defending their turf on opening day.

Last year the Falcons gave up 28 in the first half, 7 in the second. My opinion – Falcons take the momentum from the AZ revenge and learn how to beat the Saints in NO.

I’m hoping the Steelers really showed the Falcons how to play smash mouth football. The Falcons held their own against the Steelers taking them to OT on their turf. The Falcons steamrolled the Cardinals on both sides of the ball. Lets hope that physical play continues against the Saints.

Falcants fans are the biggest haters I’ve ever seen. Saints fans blog on this site because we can. We own that sorry team of yours. This was once a rivalry, not anymore. The falcants are 1-7 in the last eight games. The saints are the big dogs in the NFC south, your team needs to stay on the porch. Everybody knows the falcants can’t run with the big dogs. We have what your team wants, which is the NFC south and Lombardi. Don’t think we are just going to let some wannabe NFL team come and take it from us. The saints are doing the hunting, for another super bowl. Now for the falcants fans coming to the super dome on Sunday, get a good look at the super bowl banner hanging from the rafters, that’s about as close as your team will get to winning one. So continue ton talk trash, but deep down inside, you guys wish your team was as good as the super bowl winning saints. Eat your heart out loserville USA, isn’t that the name given to your sports teams by the media.

While it’s way too premature for AINT fans to start wearing their bags of shame, since they’re 2-0, but Sunday certainly isn’t too early for them to start chanting WHO DAT, WHO DAT WHIPPING ON THEM SAINTS, WHO DAT, WHO DAT MAKING THEM LOOK LIKE AINTS.

All we have to do is limit our turnovers, and do what the AINTS last 2 opponents have successfully done, even with RB RBush, and that’s limit their ability to score. We’ll have all of our key OFF weapons ready, and will put a royal whipping on LAST YRS SORRY 25TH RANKED AINTS DEF.

MARTIN-AINT fans are currently blogging on our website because until winning last yrs Super Bowl, they’ve never had the guts, or the justification to blog on here before. I don’t take any of this personally, and actually enjoy the ribbing and competition. This rivalry is more like a college rivalry, which makes it unlike any other in the NFL. We’re sister southern cities with rich cultures, which makes us like sibling rivals.

Is this the same Saints fans that were totally against the ropes against the lowley 49ers until they kicked a High School looking flip flop field goal late in the game? Do not expect any of the gimmes that were given by a much lesser team. Your team has been absolutley blessed with gifts/luck all last year and this year. This is the beginning of the end of that garbage. I hope you all did not discard your paper sacks based off of this lucky crap. I guarentee you WILL need them again, soon. Until your sorry team win a super bowl, you guys should just shut up with the insults. You guys can”t even sell out the Georgia dome. Yes I said it and I’ll say it again, it ain’t a rivalry anymore, we own your team. You guys barely got by a Pittsburg team that has no offense. You play a sorry cardinals team and all of a sudden you are the team to beat in the NFL, get a life loserville, USA. I did not give your sports team that name, that came from a study done by the mass media. It’s not my fault that your pro teams are none for being a bunch of losers. Come Sunday, the champs are going to show the fal-cants they are not yet ready for prime time, after all a dirty bird can’t fly with a broken wing. Watch that direct tv commercial, as that’s about as close as you guys will get to being on primetime tv. I’ll repeat what I’ve said to you guys on numerous occasions, until you win a super bowl, SHUT UP HATERS. You know they say jealousy is a mother.

Your complaining about insults is another case of the pot & kettle argument. It’s like you pull up in front of the neighbor’s house in your rusted out pickup, glass pack muffler full of holes, zydeco blasting from your single working speaker hollering drunkenly at the folks down the road how much better you are than them since your hog won the blue ribbon at the county fair…go on home and holler at the folks in your own FEMA trailer….

This should be a tough, tight super bowl type game; Falcons 21, Saints 17 (if we hold Saints under 20, we should win). Key: Pressure Brees – we need at least 2 sacks a half – would prefer a quarter. Second key – our O line & running game – if we push off the Saints, and Turner runs like the Cards game, we should win, maybe even by 10.

hey idiots, the falcons did not lose to a third string quarterback, they lost in OT on a busted run, not a throw, or run by the QB. So, tell me how did the third string QB beat us? he had homey calls by refs aiding him, like when dunta got head slapped by hines ward on a big throw. replays showed a hard hit the head, almost 15 yards downfield. bad spots on the ball all game. Pittsburgh went on the road to Tennessee and beat the crapout of them, and completely shut down CJ2K. so, shut up about the loss to the steelers. its and afc loss, and i will take those. afc record is a tie breaker way down the line, so beating nfc teams is more important. winning all games is the goal, then winning all playoff games, and then the super bowl follow. its early, but the falcons have a great shot at winning down there. take care of the ball with no turnovers, and you beat the Aints!
