Behind enemy lines: Vilma gives his take on the Falcons

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma in action (Rusty Costanza/The Times-Picayune)

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s weekend is off to a great start.

He had to be pleased with how The U” dismantled the Pitt Panthers on ESPN last night.

He did a Q & A for PlaymakerMoble.com and gave some insights to the game.

Vilma, who had the key tipped pass late in last season’s game at the Superdome, is expecting another close battle.

VILMA: I expect a tough game from the Falcons. Even though we started 13-0 last season and beat the Falcons twice during that stretch, they were close games. We won by three points, I believe, at their place, on a fourth-down stop actually, to seal that victory. Then it was a close game at our house, less than seven points, I think. These matchups, we don’t expect a blowout. We know it’s going to be a grind, and winning a division game is almost like winning two games because of tiebreakers, so we have to get after it.

He calls the Falcons offensive line “gritty.” He talks about losing Reggie Bush and noted that he plans to keep an eye out for a certain No. 44, who had 186 total yards and was named the NFC offensive player of the week.

falkonfan: Yes, a W is a W no matter how you get it. The objective is to get Ws. And hopefully, your team will one day get enough Ws to earn a Lombardi, and hopefully in your lifetime, though unlike most valuable items, we all have limited time on this earth, some less than others. I was consistent on my use of the QB angle, whether you want to admit or not, you lost to a team with QB issues, and you beat a team with QB issues. You won’t be playing a team with QB issues this week.

Paddy: You call me a little girl? With a blogname of “Paddy”. Uh-huh.

TXDawg: How does Texas come into it? I guess you now live in TX. Which begs the question: texans or cowboys?

Yep, I’m trolling, there’s no question about it. Just seeing how the fan hype is going over here. Looks like B4 is doing a good job irritating everyone. Personally I’m not here to start a shyte-storm Saints will take care of that on Sunday. It’s gonna be a lot closer game than everyone thinks. Be carefull… Drew is due for a 400+ yard day. Ahh, I’m looking forwrd to some dirty bird gumbo!!! Good luck to evryone. Keep the NFC South strong and HEALTHY!!!

SB4, Please explain to me how that 3rd string QB on Pittsburg beat the Falcons? How many TD’s did he score? How many 3rd downs did he convert? How many tackles did he make? Tis is the seocnd blog you have made this claim in and have yet to ansswer how he did it.

Mike Jay: I didn’t say the third string QB beat the falcants by himself, the implication was that your team lost to a team helmed by a third string QB. If you need that diagrammed for you, then you need remedial instruction and that my red feathered turkey, is not my job.

SB4, I can’t read minds. This is what you said “After your team lost to a third string QB”. In the other thread you said ““Your team defense was giving up big plays to the third string QB-ed steelers and lowly cardinals.” You keep bringing up this QB and how he beat us over and over. So again I ask you … How did he beat the Falcons? If you don’t mean what you type how do you expect anyone to take you seriously?

DaJoKeR: I’m no speciescist, I’ve gone to football games with falcant fans, worked alongside of falcant fans, hell, there’s even one falcant fan at my church, ….not that there’s anything wrong with that. I just don’t want any falcant fans in my neighborhood, or in the neighborhood schools. Though, there’s some left wing talk about busing some of them in. Ugh! The thought of it is just makes my skin crawl! No respect.

Or maybe, I’m off from work today, cause I work on Saturdays-Wednesdays. What’s sad is your feeble attempt to paint a picture of me, when you haven’t an iota of a clue, about who I am. One thing is certain though, and I have seen this before: you’re clueless.

Mike Jay: Your problem is that you’re trying to take me seriously. I dunno who’s denser. You, or Whatsimportant.

Does this really have to be ugly?

I love the Falcons, I respect the excellence that the Saints have shown the last several years. I want the Falcons to go down and win big. I actually like New Orleans. I like the city. I have a lot of fun going to games there and just having fun.

Can it just be about football?

The Falcons have not been a good road team. 4-5 in 2008, 3-5 in 2009, and 0-1 in 2010.
At home Matt Ryan is 14-1 as a starter.
They will need to figure this road stuff out if they want to win on Sunday.

PMC – dawglife you’re right but the psuedo-Saints bloggers here want us to concede the SB before the games are played.

D’led gave us a link to a rational Saints blog with posters freely admit Saints shortcomings this year and actually talk football as opposed to cheerleading. Bottom line – we can’t talk football with the cheerleaders.

My concern is our wildcard – MIKE MULARKEY!!!!!!

I know we want to keep the aints offense off the field by controlling the clock and you do that by running the ball and running some more but I hope he doesn’t force the run like he did in PITT.

You take what the defense gives you!!

WE MUST WIN THIS GAME AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone notice that Saints fans can’t get enough of our forum?
To my mind, that means it is time for a smack down. The fact
that it is going to happen in their house probably doesn’t mean
squat to Lofton, Babs, DeCoud, Spoon & Moore. And Snelling’s
not even winded before 100 yards…

this game will come down to whose defense is better. if ATL’s D can stop Brees, then we walk away with a win. I saw DLED stats that NO is 17-16 vs ATL in the superdome. seems pretty even matched to me. look for turner/snelling to have a great game and roddy to score at least 1td

Was right about winning on the road. Typically, if you win most of your home games and half on the road, you’re in the hunt. This team has been great at home under Smith–now they just need to add “road warrior” to it’s resume….

FrontRow

Learning to win on the road has been part of the “process” all 3 years.

This regime is intent on playing much more conservative on the road than at home – on both sides of the ball. They finished well last year given 2 trips to the Meadowlands (tough tough in NOV-DEC) yeilded an OT loss and a W won by stuffing the best running team in the NFL (Jets).

So far this year a darn good (not great) effort against a stout Steelers D defending their turf on opening day.

Last year the Falcons gave up 28 in the first half, 7 in the second. My opinion – Falcons take the momentum from the AZ revenge and learn how to beat the Saints in NO.

Kane337

I’m hoping the Steelers really showed the Falcons how to play smash mouth football. The Falcons held their own against the Steelers taking them to OT on their turf. The Falcons steamrolled the Cardinals on both sides of the ball. Lets hope that physical play continues against the Saints.

Falcants fans are the biggest haters I’ve ever seen. Saints fans blog on this site because we can. We own that sorry team of yours. This was once a rivalry, not anymore. The falcants are 1-7 in the last eight games. The saints are the big dogs in the NFC south, your team needs to stay on the porch. Everybody knows the falcants can’t run with the big dogs. We have what your team wants, which is the NFC south and Lombardi. Don’t think we are just going to let some wannabe NFL team come and take it from us. The saints are doing the hunting, for another super bowl. Now for the falcants fans coming to the super dome on Sunday, get a good look at the super bowl banner hanging from the rafters, that’s about as close as your team will get to winning one. So continue ton talk trash, but deep down inside, you guys wish your team was as good as the super bowl winning saints. Eat your heart out loserville USA, isn’t that the name given to your sports teams by the media.
