Three keys
1. Falcons must stretch the field with longer pass plays
2. Offense line must open wholes in the running game
3. D-Line must get pressure on the QB

# 3 seems feasible but 1 and 2 are wishin’ upon a star and that star is now an eagle

People always say,”We have to be able to run the ball.” It would be better to say the following: If a team can’t dominate the line of scrimmage on offense, then they have to run when the defense is leaning pass, and pass when they’re leaning run. That’s what Belichik does in NE, for example. We don’t have a dominant O-line, and so we will rarely be able to run the ball effectively without some confusion or misdirection or deception to help us. (What were Mularkey/Ryan doing repeatedly running Turner into a tight seven man box? Trying to prove their manhood? LeBeau must have thought he’d died and gone to heaven.) What we really need is a poised and accurate QB who can throw in the flat, or throw the slant, with great accuracy, so the receiver doesn’t have to stop or break stride. We so far absolutely don’t have that. Nothing helps a running game like the credible threat of a short passing game.

What happened to the o-line that opened holes for Turner in 08?

truth,

Good question. They were never good pass blockers but now they seem mediocre at both.

sure Vick can throw the ball far but where it lands nobody knows but most likely not near the guy who is wide open.

The Falcons this week will:

Declare September 19, 2010, “Tony Gonzalez Day” at the Georgia Dome.
Honor Gonzalez before the game in a brief ceremony commemorating his 1,000th catch, with Falcons owner & CEO Arthur Blank, general manager Thomas Dimitroff and president Rich McKay in attendance.
Salute Tony with a video montage that will be shown on the Jumbotron on Sunday prior to kickoff commemorating his historic catch.
Offer fans the opportunity to purchase a limited number of “Milestone Ticket Packages,” which include two tickets to Sunday’s game and a Gonzalez jersey for just $88. For more information about securing the “Milestone Ticket Package”, fans can go to AtlantaFalcons.com.
Reduce the price on all of Gonzalez’s jerseys by 50 percent at Falcons365.com and Sunday at the Georgia Dome. The price reduction on the Gonzalez jerseys begins today and continues until after Sunday’s game.
Feature Gonzalez on the cover of Falcons Playbook, the official 2010 Game Day Program of the Atlanta Falcons.
Give away Falcons battle flags to the first 60,000 fans (courtesy of TicketMaster) entering the Georgia Dome.

The Falcons in a laugher 34-13 over the Cards. Then we go to Old Orleans and beat the Aints like they stole something.

It’s season three of the new era of Falcons football. Season three of Thomas Dimitroff as the general manager, Mike Smith as the head coach and Matt Ryan as the starting quarterback.

And for the first time in Falcons history, they’ll be looking for a third straight winning season.

If Turner can be another significant threat, that’s only going to make Ryan more dangerous as the quarterback. Plus, a serious running attack will also make tight end Tony Gonzalez more of a headache for opposing defenses.

Roddy White is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and the return of Harry Douglas should help. The Falcons do, however, need second receiver Michael Jenkins to come back from the shoulder injury that sidelined him in the preseason

I understand the coaches’ philosophy is “pound the football.” The problem I have is their inability to adjust when that isn’t working. They look like they’re trying to prove their manhood running up the middle so often yet completely wuss out and punt on 4th and inches. The message that sends to BOTH teams on the field is one we don’t need to be sending.

It was even less surprising Arizona (1-0) had problems with the ball in its 17-14 victory at St. Louis. Derek Anderson, installed as the starting quarterback after Matt Leinart was released, lost one of four Cardinals fumbles and only found Pro Bowl receiver Larry Fitzgerald three times for 43 yards

Matt has to play better and in Mularkey is handcuffing him he has to make it right when he is in no huddle or he is to blame also. If they don’t show and prove against Arizonia then we are in trouble. I hope they Show!

@hiramsaint – your 4:17 post pretty much nails it. #4 would be find a running back that doesn’t fall down as soon as the defense touches him. Burner Turner my a**. Must not be a contract year…

Seemed like they played “not to lose” against Pittsburgh. I had them @ 12-4, now that slips to
11-5. They play Arizona @ home this week, nobody else. I want to see some deep balls, some hot reads down the middle. If we start running reverses that is a sign we are in deep trouble. And how bout a good ol’ Green Bay sweep every now and then. Turner seems to gain more yards running the ball outside.

Dan Reeves got fired as coach because of his run run up the middle style of football..and Blank fired him…Now Malurkey is doing the same thing today…no imagination on offense..look out Mike Smith.

Falcon2986- your sorry team better focus on the cardinals, before worrying about beating the super bowl champs. Wishful thinking about beating the champs in their house. You have no offense or defense. Your team could not even beat steel town, with a third string q-b. What makes you think the falcants are going to beat a super bowl/MVP q-b.

Who cares if Vick sells tix? He will choke just like he did at the end of the game vs. Packers. He has talent but he is as dumb as a rock.

Atlanta fans often denigrate the play of wideout Michael Jenkins, a first-round pick in 2004. Granted, Jenkins has never caught more than 53 passes in a season and he frequently suffers some drops, but he is a good complement to Roddy White and stretches the field when he’s in the game.

falconfan2986

The Falcons are just 5-6 since Ryan arrived when Jenkins is injured and doesn’t play. Jenkins sat out last week with a shoulder injury and likely won’t play Sunday, but Atlanta is 15-7 with him in the lineup since the start of the 2008 season.

This new coach of the Falcons is already the new death of us….( he doesnt play to WIN the game….he plays MORE not to lose instead ) He takes no chances… A play it safe kind of guy! Someone needs to inform him that ( aggressive ) teams go further and ( nice ) teams like us ( usually watch them )! I dont mind losing….if youre playing to WIN! Coach…grab A pair and man-up!

Vick is going to get better and better each week. He is a human high light film, we should have stuck by the guy. Hey, stupid move on his part and a reason he was erratic, but he paid the price, and does anyone remember watching the guy play, and how he made us FEEL?! I aint no lib either with the feelings thing, but I did love to watch Mike play and I bet everyone here could not wait to watch the game reviews. CRAP!!! Arthur Blank is a LIBERAL caught up in the FASHIONABLE LIBERAL “KILL THE GUY WHO HURTS DOGS” thing, all hopped up by PETA. Of course its wrong to abuse animals…and people too! Now be a loving person to everyone cause as Americans we are all brothers and sisters…AND GO FALCONS! (and beat VICK when you go to Philly!). PS: should have stuck by Mike, he made us proud, mostly.
