JACKSONVILLE – Backup quarterback Chris Redman started against the Jacksonville Jaguars and turned in a solid performance.
Redman completed 15 of 22 passes for 142 yards and had a quarterback rating of 85.8. He played the first half before giving way to John Parker Wilson.
Here’s what Redman and some of the players had to say after the game:
QB CHRIS REDMAN
ON THE OFFENSE: “I thought the group did well. The offensive line did a good job. We turned the ball over a couple of times and fell just short of the endzone down there in the redzone. Other than that I felt we were pretty sharp.”
ON GETTING SOME EXTENDED ACTION: “You never know when it’s going to happen during the season, so anytime you get an extended time to play it’s good for not only me, but for everybody on the offense. I thought the guys played well. It’s just a matter of us finishing drives. It was good work for everybody. I think we got a lot accomplished tonight.”
ON TIGHT END MICHAEL PALMER, WHO LED THE TEAM WITH FIVE CATCHES: “I think he has a chance to be a pretty good player. I think he looks really comfortable catching the ball. He’s real relaxed out there. He is a really good tight end.”
RB JERIOUS NORWOOD
ON THE OPENER: “I feel pretty good. As a team, we have a lot of work to do in one week to get ready for Pittsburgh. We’ll come in tomorrow and start work. All the guys seem to have a positive attitude. The main thing tonight that we tried to do was, come out and play hard and technique-sound football.”
SS WILLIAM MOORE
ON HIS PLAY: “I felt like I made a lot of progress and that comes from preparation.”

ON WHAT IT MEANT TO START AND WHEN HE FOUND OUT HE WAS STARTING: “It meant a lot. The coaches let us know today. It was a great to have the opportunity to come in and start and show them what I can do.”
ON WHEN HIS INSTINCTS WILL START TO TAKE OVER: “Now. It goes back to film study and being comfortable with what you’ve got going on. Because as a rookie you don’t have a great idea about what’s going on. So you’re just out there running around trying to find the ball.”
MATT BRYANT
ON GOING INTO THE SEASON WITH MOMENTUM AFTER MAKING THREE FIELD GOALS: “It always feels good to contribute and get those points on the board. You’d rather that they were extra points, but sometimes your job is to get the three. It’s good to go into the season with those under my belt. It’s a little bit of momentum. It was a good operation and I hit the ball solid.”
MLB BEAR WOODS
ON PLAYING: “It felt pretty good to run around and play some football. It was a lot of work getting through this training camp. It paid off for me since I was able to go play some football. Actually, I was very prepared. That’s why I was comfortable out there. They didn’t do anything really off the wall when I was in. I was able to get the defense set and I was ready to rock and roll.”
ON GETTING A SHOT TO MAKE THE TEAM: “That was it. This was like a homecoming. I live like 20 minutes from here. I had a lot of support and that really helped me out on the field, knowing this was a good opportunity. I just thank God for it. I just went out there and played the best I could.”

Its over folks, quit guessing, quit coaching, let the games begin and enjoy the results of a good, exciteing and productive season for Falcons football. Take a deep breath for tomorrow is the day and you will know the roster make up and how it equates to the depth chart.

Good game for the backups. I think this season will be a solid 9-7 season. Another winning season will be good. I don’t see a reason to justify the Falcons getting more than that.

Hiram, the truth is our first team offense was nothing to write home about. I know it’s pre-season but I would have liked to seen better. Just keeping it real.

Yep….get ready for the excuses to be made.
We beat Pittsburgh and Arizona, and the usual suspects (local haters and Saints fans) will have all the excuses in the world about why we won. Book it. Happens every time.

contrary to what big ray says i agree. good reps in preseason are good but not a total indicator of regular season play. it’s nice to carry some quality drives into your 1st real game but if it doesn’t happen , you just gotta move from there.

i agree with “truth” above blog, in that the offense needed to have been better. i don’t care if it is pre-season or regular season or whatever, you still need to be scoring points in the red zone! and not field goals and at least attempt to win the games! Coach Smith and Co. better not panic over the place kicker M. Bryant, he will be very consistent this year, but no kicker is Perfect. Sometimes the complacent and laid back coaching during these so called meaningless games affects the players and the kickers too. To not be as focused and not concentrating hard enough contributes to missed kicks and so on, that is why i said need to be serious about winning games and evaluating players go together period! Always instill winning at any level and any game. Wonder how all the back-ups, rookies and free agents felt about losing game after busting their butts and playing for a roster spot. Point is: no player likes to lose any game!

I simply do not understand the purpose of the AJC showing two Falcons turnovers…..especially as well as these two (Redman and Palmer) did. I just don’t get it….

It’s not “Jacksonville loss”… it’s the “loss TO Jacksonville” – Sloppy journalism.
