JACKSONVILLE Gil Brandt, of Sirius NFL radio and NFL.com,  is all-in on the Falcons.

On Sirius NFL Radio last night, while talking to Dr. Falcon on the air, he announced that he’s selecting Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to win the NFL’s MVP award.

“I think he’s going to be a big factor in the success of that team,” Brandt said on the Late Hits show.

Brandt, the longtime former personnel man with the Dallas Cowboys,  said he had to write a piece for NFL.com and in the article he picking Ryan.

Last season, Peyton Manning won the award for a record fourth time.

“I won’t be a bit surprised if Atlanta wins the NFC South,” Brandt said.

Matt Ryan is going do very well in 2010, and the Falcons are going to have great success.

This team is destined for greatness.

What does it matter, who gets the MVP?
Manning got it last year, and his team lost the SB.

Gil Brandt may sound a bit over the hill but he got my attention last season when he picked Oakland to beat Pittsburgh when there was no reason in the world to make that pick.

From there on out if Brandt says it then I pay more attention to it. He’s about as close to a football fortune teller as there is.

It’s all well & good to compare him to those elite QB’s in their 1st two years but none of them were ready to win an MVP at that point in their career’s nor the next year either. In fact Peyton, as great as he is, didn’t win his 1st MVP until YEAR 6, Brady YEAR 8, & Brees has never won 1 (even those lets be honest he’s probably deserved it the last 2 years & has been robbed by those drinking the Manning kool-aid). So comparing to the elite Qb’s in the league well before they became MVP type players is all well & good, & honestly it’s a good sign, but the fact still remains it holds no validity to the claim that Ryan will win the MVP this year which is the statement in ?. I am by no means a Ryan hater & i love the support but sorry BeefATL72 the argument & the facts fall short on this one!

D-Led

On to news that could help this prediction.

CBS reports that the Cowboys are set at wide receiver. Dez Bryant, Roy Williams, Miles Austin is a bona fide No. 1. & Kevin Ogletree, while inconsistent, shows great acceleration and change-of-direction quickness as a catch-and-run weapon. This stability translates to insecurity for Patrick Crayton. As in job insecurity. Tim McMahon of ESPN Dallas says that Crayton is on the trading block. And, if there are no takers, the veteran could simply be cut Saturday night.

So the ? is do we take atvantage of this??? Gosh i hope we do, it’ll be after they place Meier on IR like Smith said, so why not go after it? It helps us at Wr giving us a legit # 2 & in the PR game.

What Brandt wanted to say is that Ryan will win the MVP of the falcons, not the NFL. You guys wish that your sorry falcons could unseat the saints in the NFC south, it ain’t going to happen. The super bowl champs are going to show the falcants how real football is played wen they get to the super bowl. I can’t wait so we can shut you falcants fans up with all this bs about how your team is going to win the NFC south etc.

Gil Brandt is delusional. I love the Falcons and Matty Ice but have you seen his preseason?

Matt almost always misses high early in games (last year this was a huge problem) and something is wrong with his arm – he consistently underthrows the long ball.

ITS A PLEASURE TO TALK TO MR. BRANDT. I ADMIT, I WAS SHOCKED WHEN HE TOLD ME HE PICKED MATT RYAN TO WIN THE MVP. IT JUST SHOWS YOU THE WIDSPREAD RESPECT THAT MY FALCONS HAVE EARNED DURING THE THOMAS DIMITROFF AND COACH SMITH ERA. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT MR. BRANDT HAS A KEEN EYE FOR TALENT. MATT RYAN WILL HAVE WEAPONS AT HIS DISPOSAL THAT US FALCON FANS HAVE NOT SEEN IN YEARS! SO, LETS PUNCH THE STEELERS IN THE MOUTH WEEK 1 AND GET THIS THING ROLLING!

Outside of ajc readers, nobody in other areas of the nation would have a clue about who Mattyice is! I thought nicknames were supposed to be earned. When will he win his first playoff game? Don’t be shocked if next year he’s still without a playoff win. He looks like the second coming of Marc Bulger to me, and maybe not as good after two seasons as Bulger was. We’ll see how it all plays out, but they’ve put a kings crown on this guy way too prematurely!

Matt Ryan is not even close to MVP material. I think Falcons fans should ignore Gil brandt on this one. In the NFC look for Aaron Rodgers as a MVP candidate. That makes sense. Coming out of the AFC , I would never bet against Peyton Manning.
Think about the Falcons having to deal with these three defenses. Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Baltimore this season. You should pray that Matt stays vertical.

I think atlanta people are underestimating what our team can do this year. Ironically, the national media isn’t underestimating them. The falcons stood their ground with a dominating force last year. Not once, but twice. Is this team perfect? No. But they are one of the best home teams in football, have one of the weakest schedules in football, and can only improve from last season. I picked them 9-7 last season, and I predict 12-4 this season.

MVP? I just don’t see it.

Given, you can’t help but cheer for Matt Ryan with his commitment to the game and how much of a nice, genuine individual it seems like he is. However, I don’t care how hard you work or how nice you are if you don’t produce results. And, unlike a great many Falcons fans, I won’t let Ryan’s likeable qualities disguise the fact that he’s still a long way off.

This year will be exceptionally telling for Ryan in that respect. Can he be decisive? Can he compensate for his lack of zip by getting rid of football more quickly? Can he cease to run into the pass rush? I hope so. Our season depends on it.

Umm…I’m happy that the Falcons are on everyone’s radar screen and expectations are high, but this Brandt pick makes no sense. Did anyone actually look at NFL.com today? He projects Aaron Rodgers to win OPOY, and for the Saints to win the NFC South. So…how exactly does he then come to the conclusion that Matt Ryan will win MVP? Seems like logic wasn’t part of his equation, as much as I am a Falcons fan and Ryan supporter.

C’mon man! Are you kidding me! You are trying too hard to manufacture a hero. I can name ten QBs in the league that Matt Ryan’s not fit to be their water boy. Manning, Favre, Shaub, Brees, Rivers, Rogers, Brady, McNabb, Manning, Romo, Roethlisberger. Matt’s has NEVER been rated in the top 10 NFL QBs. He’s second tier at best based on performance thus far.

Big Ray, I guess that must make them(Saint fans) ajc readers. Remember that Atlanta has become much like many Florida cities where most everyone is now from somewhere else. These residents are fans of other teams in all sports and not at all loyal to the Falcons, Braves, etc. Additionally, many Gulf South residents have transplanted to this melting pot that we call Atlanta, hence bringing many Saints fans to the ATL. Atlanta will probably always have as a high a percentage of sports fans not cheering for the home team as nearly any other city in this country. Don’t expect that to change!

Brandt has lost his mind. While I pull for the Falcons there is no way Ryan is even close to MVP caliber. Flacco is closer to that in my opinion. Ryan is a nice leader whose talent is more complimentary than dominant.

When I think MVP I think dominating talent and performance. If anything, and if healthy, Turner is the MVP candidate on this team.

Matt Ryan is a good QB but not great. He doesn’t have the arm to make all the throws. His work ethic will take him a long way in being a successful QB in this league.
