FLOWERY BRANCH — The Falcons released their final preseason depth chart on Sunday.

It will undergo some major restructuring before the season opener against Pittsburgh on Sept. 12.

There are a couple of things of note.

Kroy Biermann is still listed as the third left defensive end behind Jamaal Anderson and Chauncey Davis.

Stephen Nicholas is still listed as the starting strongside linebacker, despite that rookie Sean Weatherspoon has started the last two exhibition games at the spot.

Against Jacksonville, the reserves will get to play a lot. One of the most interesting battles will be at backup running back. The Falcons probably don’t have the luxury of keeping two fullbacks so Dan Klecko will need to have a good special teams day.  Also, running backs Dimitri Nance and Antone Smith are in a fight for the last running back spot.

Here’s a look at the depth chart:

Kroy Biermann has looked good in the pre-season games. He should be given a shot at starting at DE.

Biermann should start before Anderson.

Didn’t you have Klecko listed as a lock at RB a few days ago? If Smitty decides to rotate his LB’s like he does the D-Line, that could turn out to be a good thing for the overall defense. Forget who’s listed as a starter, get your impact players in the game and keep them as fresh as possible. That’s going to be the formula for winning in an 18-game season as well.

Wonder how many O-linemen we will keep on the 53 man roster? If we have an injury to one of our starting linemen early in the season I don’t know if throwing a rookie like Hawley or Johnson into a baptism by fire situation is a good decision and while Reynolds has looked pretty good at times do you hedge your bets that he is completely ready if Clabo goes down?

hmmmm..........

Why is Anderson still on the roster? He’s been a huge bust. He had one good season in college. Any chance we cut him?

We really need to be looking for a kicker.
Bryant doesn’t seem to be an upgrade from Elam.

Anderson is a great run stopping end and and he’s good at tackle why would they cut him?

Great point real bird of prey. JA98 is excellent against the run, and now we have several other guys that can rush the passer.

Defence for the Falcons has looked pretty good so far its the offense i can’t figure out they need add some depth WR because they have only scored 16 points thats terrible .

Why we still got gimpy Jerious Norwood on the roster? He is too fragile to be a running back. Jason Snelling is the real deal!

This depth chart can’t be right. On another note, somebody tell me why Harvey isn’t getting playing time? I’m a Roddy White fan but he’s suspect these days.

Roddy White is being double team a bunch Jenkins is not a 2nd WR they need go out and get a deep threat like Vincent Jackson.

If i were coach smith i would make norwood into a slot receiver and put harry Douglas on the out side. they both have speed to stretch the field then leave turner and snelling and some times norwood at RB

@dekaldawg whats wrong with that? harry is similar to wes welker and steve smith at least to me and norwood is similar to percey harvin we could have an extremely explosive offense

Pittsburg Steelers keeps talking like they will cut Jonathan Dwyer………….Falcons should definitely sign Dwyer if he becomes available. He will be a very solid RB for many years in the NFL!

I count 78 either I am off by 3 or we still have at least one more cut before Tuesday.

@TLH – practice squad guy? I wonder about the TE Palmer great hands but can he block?

@ FrontRow. Hopefully the Falcons won’t cut him. He’s a sleeper just watch and see. On another note, I bet William Moore will be starting @ SS after the bye week. Cole is a beast but pass coverage is waaayy below average. William will eventaully have those receivers scared to come across the middle. He lays wood. No homo. LOL..

Has Harvey even played anything but special teams? Falcons have enough receivers and may be trying to hide one at the end of the roster. Meier would have made the team.

Coleman is a FS not SS. So, Moore may be the best (only?) SS on the team. I would really like to see more #25 and #56 on the field at the same time; seemed to me that a running team like the Dolphins could not run with those 2 in the game but it’s hard to tell on TV.

We’ve got extra players at D-line and CB. Look for a trade for a WR.

I want Shann Schillinger as the fourth safety on the roster. I’m surprised they haven’t moved him up on it (motivation maybe?). Schillinger is a very smart young man. He has shown he can play either the strong or the free safety position. Schillinger has sure hands, closes fast, hits hard, and brings em down. The three pre-season games has shown he can play now both in the backfield and on ST. I like him as a solid addition for the Falcon’s future. It will be interesting to see how the 53 shake out.

realbirdofprey I do agree that Harry Should be opposite of Roddy White as a Starter! But norwood is a Back! Maybe throw screens and other plays out of the backfield for him! But his durability has been a Major Problem! He just needs to be Healthy a WHOLE Season.

I hate to see Jenkins back up there at #1. Mr. Dropsy pissed me off more times last year than I care to remember.

I would like to see HD sew up that spot.

this is the same depth chart they have released all pre season… this is not news…. d-rob has been listed as a starter every time & has not played in a game yet. beerman has been listed a 3rd teamer but plays more with the starters….. this is just what the coaches put out there not a real depth chart…

Sign Antonio Bryant, he was cut by Bengals. His knees can’t be any worse than Finneran’s. He torched the Falcons last year. As I see it now the Falcons must upgrade WR position and Kicker. M.Bryant is not getting the job done.

Kroy Bierman is our pass rush speacialist not an every down run stopping Defensive End. It may be smart for him to come off the bench rested on third down in order that we may get to the opposing team’s quarterback.

Matt Bryant scares me. We need to look for another option at place kicker. He is exactly who we thought he was, and we are letting him off the hook!!

Duuuh?

August 30th, 2010

Let’s see. Roddy is not a #1 receiver. Jenkins is not a #2 receiver. They both drop a lot of balls. They’re gonna make that young QB look bad. Where have I heard that??? Oh yeah; we had another young QB then and everyone said it was his fault for throwing the ball too hard. Just sayin…..

Duuh . …After reading a whole lot the first year about the former QB, whom I liked and enjoyed watching . . .I finally went and took a good look at his numbers. I was really suprised at how mediocre, or below average they were as a passer. Obviously, exceptional runner. Still, I was very suprised by the passing and QB rating. Anyone looking at that alone without seeing him play and knowing the excitement – intangibles would think .. . .just another run o the mill QB. Best rating ever was 81 (excluding last year of 93 with 13 pass attempts). . .and mostly was in 70s with a couple of 60s. MR has been 87 & 81 (80.9) thus far. Still, I definitely was shocked at the pretty below par passing numbers as I thought they would be better for the former QB.
