MIAMI – Cornerback Dunta Robinson, the Falcons prized offseason acquisition, was a late scratch from the lineup against the Miami Dolphins on Friday.
Robinson, who’s been nursing what has been termed a minor hamstring injury, was expected to play in the all-important third exhibition game.
“We made a decision and as I said all week long — really over the last eight or nine days — all the players that are injured are going to be game time decisions,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “We thought it was just best to hold Dunta out. Anybody that has been to our practices knows that he has been a full participant in all of our practices. We just felt like it was in the best interest of our football team for the regular season to hold him out.”
Christopher Owens took Robinson’s spot in the starting lineup opposite of Brent Grimes.
Robinson was signed to a six-year, $57.5 million contract as a free agent. He hurt his hamstring trying to run down an overthrown pass early in training camp.
Wide receiver Michael Jenkins (shoulder), guard Mike Johnson (knee), defensive tackles Corey Peters (knee) and Thomas Johnson (Achilles) did not play.

I think Marshall would have gotten that call if the ball was just a little more inside. The Ref may have looked at it differently since the ball was going “out of endzone”. Now I think Marshall was interfered with, and the ball could have been caught. Just saying might have been where the ball was thrown.

D has looked pretty good.
Glad they caught that intentional grounding after missing the first one by the Fins.

GT, I know its pre-season. Pre-season or not its all about executing. If they’re not doing it now, there’s a good chance they won’t do it when it counts. The team is not out there to just go through the motion.

Good to see Franks returning a kick.
I don’t know why they are not playing him more with the first team.

No matter pre-season or not . . ..has anyone noticed that the Fins have only gotten two field goals?? They have scored 37 points in their two preseason games.

SUPERFIN,
Oh, I am Falcons fan through and through. I hate the Denver Broncos and all these Broncos fans out here. They all think they are a playoff team this year, at least a lot of them. Delusional. Must be the thin air up here a mile high.

I’m telling you our D has looked good.
They have had pressure and pretty good run stuffing.
The D will only get better.
This is why I’m becoming concerned for the O.
They should be a little sharper than this in the third preseason game.
It’s a good bet the first string won’t play much next week.

After watching Flacco, Rodgers, Bradford and others this preseason, its obvious Matt Ryan is a mediocre quaterback… He’s good enough to keep this team around .500 every year, but thats about it.

Yes, organgejuice,
Let’s declare our back-up QB’s better than the starting QB.
Like the famous quote goes “the fan’s favorite player is the back up QB”.
You sir, are an idiot for posting that. Zero credibility from here on out.

oranjucejonz . . . ..I don’t know, they are not starters for a reason that the coaches have . . .although nice pass by Redman for TD there. I missed what must have been a long pass to Douglas . . . .checking out the Red Sox and Rays on a Florida channel in between. (Sox up 3-1!!). I digress. I do think that back-ups come in a lot looser than the starters and often look very good. I’m not sure if they are playing against 2nd /3rd stringers all the time or what . . ..just think there is a different sort of pressure they have when they come in . ….. and I think they do open it up more.

Wooderson,
You lose credibility for saying Bradford. He’s a freaking rookie in the preseason. John Kitna looked great for the 2008 Detroit Lions preseason too didn’t he? How did the regular season go for him? Oh yeah, winless. Gotcha. Preseason is a key determinant for the regular season.

I don’t know if you saw the reply of the TD
But Finneran didn’t make much of a move to the outside before turning inside.
He got no separation because of it.
It was lazy route running.
That is what I’ve seen from Roddy on a regular basis.

In an interview earlier this week, Ryan said the team has a long way to go to be ready to compete. I can only guess he was speaking about himself. Wow – what a flutter ball he throws and those feet never set. Tonight, Redman looks much more prepared and competent to take this team down the field. I agree with some of you other guys – tonight, Ryan is average at best.

I think Flacco has done a nice job his first two years. Yes the man also has a rocket arm. But do not underestimate the benefit of having an awesome defense. That takes a lot of pressure off of a QB.

Superfin . . . .I assume you like the dolphins. Are you in GA or Florida?? I’m in Palm Beach County and listen all the time to the Sports talks shows on the radio down here. I listen to quite a few Dolphin fans and talks show hosts comment on how they would take Ryan over Long if they had that chance now. And they all like Long. The Falcon fans have been very tough on Ryan on this blog . . . .and I understand that because of the high expectations. I’m still thinking he will be successful in Atlanta and over the next year or two bring in some of the detractors. Don’t jump on me folks . . .just my opinion . ..and hope!!

The issue with Ryan is he is following the most loved/hated QB of all time in Atlanta. Ryan has been hyped to the moon and his detractors jump on that every chance they get. He isn’t an elite QB. He is a good, smart, hard working QB that I hope someday will lead us to the SB. Bottom line his record is 20-10 so far. That isn’t mediocre. It is good, not great or elite, but good.

Superfin . . ..OK . ..I’ll agree with the miles away from elite thing too!!! He gets beat up a lot on these posts. Last week one poster putting Ryan down actually brought up something about Brees being #1 rated QB and his being on SB team . ..hence correlation – need high rated QB to win SB. He also put down Ryan’s 20 or 21st QB rating last year. Well I went back and looked up Brees’s first 3 starting years. He was much worse than Ryan and actually in first year (Ryan 11th – Brees was like 24th or so – Brees had terrible TD/INT ration) – second year Brees went down to like 29th in rating . ..again not so good TD/INT Ration. However – 3rd year . . . .Brees bumped up all the way to 3rd and we see the end result. So all I’m saying is for his first two years . . ..Ryan’s done pretty darn good . . .and hopefully his improvement scale is somewhat like Drew Brees.

FalconUGAFan . . ..I agree. Ryan’s done just fine so far. He is not the second coming, but will be a good solid QB . . ..and potentially a conistent Pro-Bowl candidate if not Pro-Bowler. Expectations are high . . .and as you said there will be those who will try to bring him down on these sites no matter what.
