MIAMI – Cornerback Dunta Robinson, the Falcons prized offseason acquisition, was a late scratch from the lineup against the Miami Dolphins on Friday.

Robinson, who’s been nursing what has been termed a minor hamstring injury, was expected to play in the all-important third exhibition game.

“We made a decision and as I said all week long — really over the last eight or nine days — all the players that are injured are going to be game time decisions,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “We thought it was just best to hold Dunta out. Anybody that has been to our practices knows that he has been a full participant in all of our practices. We just felt like it was in the best interest of our football team for the regular season to hold him out.”

Christopher Owens took Robinson’s spot in the starting lineup opposite of Brent Grimes.

Robinson was signed to a six-year, $57.5 million contract as a free agent. He hurt his hamstring trying to run down an overthrown pass early in training camp.

Wide receiver Michael Jenkins (shoulder), guard Mike Johnson (knee), defensive tackles Corey Peters (knee) and Thomas Johnson (Achilles) did not play.

Ryan floated that interception ball.
There was confusion on that route it seemed.
Ryan kept his eyes focused on White too.

Jimmy . . ..I’m not sure about the floating part . . ..well maybe. It seemed to be a well thrown ball. I’m just wondering if it was a smartly thrown ball . . ..and yes I did notice Roddy seemed to be stumbling over there.

@ GTMustang, Peyton played well last night & I never understood why people give guys a pass for playing poorly in the preseason. If he’s not playing well, he’s not playing well. Why does he get a pass? Honestly, I am concerned b/c he hasn’t looked sharp at all for the duration of a quarter, drive, half yet. If our franchise QB ain’t plain well, all that 12-4 nonsense Bradley was talkin about doesn’t stand a chance

-REEpeal it for Roe!!!

Good D . . ….agressive play by Dolphins. Sometimes it works . . .sometimes ends up in turnover.

Reader,
There was no velocity on that ball.
It had a slight wobble.
Compared to the Dolphin QB and most NFL QB’s
There was not much zip.

Knot—Dunta is not playing tonight.
Did anyone hear why he was scratched?

The Falcons Brass can’t be happy with what they are seeing, just as we are not happy. I will again say our number 1 Receiver is a number 2 or 3 on most other NFL Teams. Mark you it was not a good throw by Ryan, but he does not fight for the ball like a Receiver should do, Neither does he get enough separation, so balls thrown to him are likely to be intercepted. I will bet that 75% of interceptions thrown by Ryan have been balls thrown to Roddy.

I know he’s not playing, but he is better. He was scratched for one reason and one reason only. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ The excecs don’t want him tweak the hammy again during pre-season.

Ree . . ..well at least we have had a tough half of play by the D. Offense definitely missed opportunities when they seemed to have a decent flow going. (Key word decent!) Didn’t like that Int pass by Ryan . . . ..but I do like the decisions he made – except Int. . .even on those passes he was a little off on. No excuses . . .but I try and find the half full glass views:) So I’m not giving anyone a Pass . . ..because none is necessary. Ryan will be the starting QB (unless unforeseen circumstances) and he’ll have to tighten it up.

The offense will not be able to rely on short passing and Michael Turner this year.
Teams are wise to that game.
If Ryan can’t make the medium to long range throws and/or his receivers can’t catch them…
It will be a long season.
I know it’s preseason, but you are looking for a little bit of consistency at least.
We are not seeing it tonight.
Hopefully it will come in our last preseason game.

Thomas . …I agree with your assessment. I think Roddy White can be fantastic some plays/games. But I’m beginning to really notice what a lot of posters have mentioned in the past. Does seem to drop some “catchable” throws . . .and I’m not sure about his route running . . .consistent route running that is.

Jimmy

I too agree about Roddy.
This is something he has done consistently in his career…drop catchable throws.
He also seems to struggle to get separation consistently.
When he catches balls…DB’s always seem to be draped all over him.

This is why I can’t yet conclude Ryan is just average.
I believe his receiving corp and O line is suspect.

Jimmy

I think our big hope is in our D
If they stay healthy, we will win some games because of them.
Our O is more suspect at this time.

Ree…

I am not saying give him a pass, but don’t get on here and say he’s average based on a preseason game. You can’t make ANY predictions from preseason games. NONE. I don’t care how much you think you can. The offense we are running now is only a small portion of what we pull out in the regular season.

Would you have said the 2008 Detroit Lions would have made it to the playoffs in the third game of the preseason. I hope not, because they went winless in regular season but undefeated in preseason play. I’ll bet Kitna looked elite didn’t he?

Like I said, don’t get on here and bitch and complain because of a preseason game. Look at his stats from year 1 and year 2 you’ll see that he right up there with the best in the league.

Just like I am not going to get on here and sing his praises, I wouldn’t get on here and throw him to the dogs either.

I think it was a smart move to put Ryan in too. He seems to need some more reps. Maybe he can close in on the receivers better this drive or the next . . .now that it is 3rd and long. (If he comes back in)
