Dunta Robinson was expected to make his Falcons debut against Miami. (Curtis Compton / ccompton@ajc.com)
MIAMI – Cornerback Dunta Robinson, the Falcons prized offseason acquisition, was a late scratch from the lineup against the Miami Dolphins on Friday.
Robinson, who’s been nursing what has been termed a minor hamstring injury, was expected to play in the all-important third exhibition game.
“We made a decision and as I said all week long — really over the last eight or nine days — all the players that are injured are going to be game time decisions,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “We thought it was just best to hold Dunta out. Anybody that has been to our practices knows that he has been a full participant in all of our practices. We just felt like it was in the best interest of our football team for the regular season to hold him out.”
Christopher Owens took Robinson’s spot in the starting lineup opposite of Brent Grimes.
Robinson was signed to a six-year, $57.5 million contract as a free agent. He hurt his hamstring trying to run down an overthrown pass early in training camp.
Wide receiver Michael Jenkins (shoulder), guard Mike Johnson (knee), defensive tackles Corey Peters (knee) and Thomas Johnson (Achilles) did not play.

FalconUGAFan . . ..sorry you can’t find the game. I’m down here in Boca Raton so getting the Dolphin TV broadcast. D looks pretty good so far. O doesn’t look bad . . .. .Ryan has a TD – but also a couple of passes that were a few inches behind or overthrown. One underthrown (long pass) to Roddy White – he was covered pretty tightly though so an absolute perfect pass was needed. Overall, outside of those near misses – O hasn’t looked bad.

A dropped pass.
Ryan seems to be rushing some of his throws.

Holding?? Good – on Dolphins. 1st and 10. Good route by Roddy to get wide open. Those are passes Ryan’s pretty good at.

Crap…flag.
Baker is a substandard tackle.
He just does not pass protect well.
He’s getting beat by rookies.

That ball floated on Ryan.
It was a very interceptable ball.
We were lucky the pass was just knocked down.

Are you guys seriously hitching your wagons to this Matt Ryan thing? No arm strength and very nervous feet in the pocket!!!! 12-4 LMAO how about 9-7 if that???? But hey! that will be a 3peat in winning seasons…lol

Ree,
I am seeing the same thing you are.
He has looked bad in the few passes he’s thrown.
But I am encouraged to see some down field throws this year.
He is just off.
I still think he can get the job done…he needs more work.

Ree Roe . . .no name calling by me. I think today he has been just a little off and hopefully can correct that before going to the bench. I do think Roddy could have caught that pass, but damn it was another matter of inches. Ryan’s got to get those inches down/up. I do like what I see, but it will get more frustrating if the near calls don’t become completions soon. And I’m definitely NOT a hater!

I was thinking the same thing as the TV announcer here. He said that may have been a case of Henne throwing the ball too hard. Sometimes the Rocket Arms are in need of a temporary Noodle Arm:):) Where is good ole Noodle Arm these days?

bird .. . . .do you have the game on TV or getting info from reading posts? If you have TV then all I can say is the guy’s a little off and has to get the calibration down this next series. If not, then I’ll say again . . .the guy’s a little off and has to get the calibration down this next series:)

And that’s what happens when you are pounding for a 1st down on 3rd and inches instead of more relaxed on a 1st and 10. Damn.

Last year I stated that Joe Flacco was a better quarterback than Ryan, and so far Ryan has not done anything to prove me wrong. I am still hoping as a Falcon Fan that Ryan will become as good as most people say and prove me wrong. He seems to have a difficult time getting the ball out wide with any conviction.

Yeah bird. . .. . .I’m BC alum, so as you know quite a few of us have joined these blogs rooting him on. But I won’t shy away from saying when he’s not having a great game. I also have always liked the Falcons (after Pats) since the Gritz Blitz days when they gained this Yankee (Northerner . . .not those damned pinstripers) fan.

Turner does break plays with that side shifting every now and then . . ..but I prefer he go in their hard and fast. He’s definitely no Tomlinson (in LaDamian’s prime) when it comes to that shifty type of speed.

OK, would have liked a TD try there . . . .but all and all . . .it was the smart play at that end of the field. Instead of trying to get TD in smaller crowded area . . ..decision is a drop pass and see what happens. How many yards did they get?? Wasn’t sure how close. Bottom line, if this were a real game scenario you gotta get at least 3 . . .while making a decent attempt at trying for 1st down.

Wow. You guys are being harsh on Ryan. It’s preseason.
Petyon Manning looked like s*** last night, but I guess he’s not elite either is he?
Some people take preseason way to seriously. And I don’t care anybody says, the third game is not close a real game. People just say that to have something to talk about.

Here’s my take on Ryan so far in his career.
If he continues to play like this…he will be an average starter.
I have seen enough of him to believe he SHOULD be able to make the throws.
What is happening to him is a combination of things.
His receivers not being the best…
his O Line being undersized and not good pass blockers…
his own tendency for happy feet…
These things have put him where he is.
Should he get one more decent receiver and an O Line…his stock will rise.
