091227 Atlanta - DEFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN - Atlanta Falcons defenders begin to celebrate as defensive end # 90 Lawrence Sidbury hoists the football in the endzone as he takes it away from the Bills and returns it for a touchdown and a 24-0 lead during 2nd half action while Bills rookie quarterback # 4 Brian Brohm looks on at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009. FLOWERY BRANCH — Defensive end Lawrence Sidbury turned in a strong performance against New England and may be ready to see more action against first and second string players.
He finished with four tackles and one sack.
“I can explain it in one word, progress,” Sidbury said. “In this camp I feel myself getting better. I feel my teammates around me getting better as a unit.”
Sidbury, a fourth round pick in 2009, played sparingly as a rookie, but showed flashes of the destructive and explosive player he was at Richmond. While he dominated for the Spiders, he’s had to work on his techniques and skills to get past NFL linemen.
The sack was particularly gratifying for Sidbury.
“That is one of the things the coach (Ray) Hamilton harps on, improving our pass rush from last year,” Sidbury said. “I was just doing the things that we’ve been working on in practice, trying some new stuff.”
If the Falcons can’t get the sack, they at least want to make the quarterback move and get out of his comfort zone.
If Sidbury keeps showing that he can get to the quarterback, he knows there is playing time to be earned in the defensive line rotation approach the Falcons use.
“The coaches try to keep us fresh,” Sidbury said. “He will have us on the field at any given time.”
Defensive John Abraham invited Sidbury to workout with him at Bommarito Performance Systems in south Florida this summer.
“He’s been doing this for a long time,” Sidbury said. “You’ve heard stories about things (not) working out. . . so I respect him for reaching out to me to help me out. That says a lot about him.”

Dline has potential, however we will be only as good as Jerry, Babs and Lewis health holds up. Abe, Beerman and Sid must prove that they can pressure/sack opposition qbs consistently. I think we are good, however we have not proven that so far. NE Pats manhandled both lines of scrimage against us.

Kroy Bierman needs to request a trade….its obvious that the coaching staff will never start him at DE….and the fan base and press seem to only want to talk about Sidbury who has done nothing compared to the Beerman. He could be a starter on most NFL teams…..read the writing on the wall Kroy.

I believe Trey Lewis is gonna be big for the Falcons this year. His play will allow Jerry to progress at a moderate pace.

@RB: It would be better for you to ask the Falcon coaching staff why they refuse to start Bierman when he’s proven time and again to be better than JA. My ten year old daughter could make this easy decision after watching game film….why can’t the Falcon’s coaching staff? You don’t think its bothering Bierman that he’s not starting here in Atlanta. You can bet your bottom dollar that his agent isn’t happy and is shopping him to teams that have a clue.

One or two plays in preseason doesn’t impress me. Do it CONSISTENTLY and then create Sidbury blog. Now Biermann is going to do things this year.

That kid Sidbury is good but Biermann is a beast. I am looking for Biermann and Abraham to be pro bowlers this season.
