FLOWERY BRANCH –  Offensive lineman Blake Schlueter moved up on the depth chart to the slot vacated by the traded Quinn Ojinnaka. The depth chart was released on Monday for Friday’s game at Miami.

Schlueter is listed as the No. 2 left guard behind Justin Blalock. Offensive lineman Mark Ortmann was signed after the depth chart for the Miami game was released.

The Falcons hope to play their starters for 30 to 35 snaps against the Dolphins.

However, if it rains, which is always a possibility in south Florida in the summer, the play-count will be reduced. Miami leaves it dirt baseball infield in place until the Marlins season is over. Rain makes for muddy conditions.

With the addition of Ortmann the Falcons have 79 players on the roster. They will have to cut down to 75 by next Tuesday, so this will be the last game for at least four players.

The Falcons have until Sept. 4 to cut down to the final 53.

Coach S…Are you crazy!
The BEERMAN should be the #1 LDE not 3rd on the depth chart!! He has already proved to be better than any other DE on the team!

Dawgdad,

You should probably just watch the games on TV and NOT comment on here. So you are going to make a bold prediction based on the Patriots PRESEASON game? You do realize our players watched ZERO tape of the Patriots prior to that game, right? It means they don’t care to win. They are working on their own stuff.

So, let’s say the Falcons went undefeated in preseason play. Would you suspect we’d go 0-16 in the regular season? See the 2008 Lions for your answer. Undefeated in preseason, winless in the regular season play.

I am not sure what you can take out of preseason if anything at all. What we are seeing is a skeleton of the team. They play base formations, they run vanilla plays, they enter the game in a totally different mindset. Based on that, you can take nothing from the preseason. When regular season starts, you won’t hear mention of preseason wins and losses again.

I know it’s the only thing we have seen so far, but for Christ sakes keep it in perspective.

As others have posted… Don’t put too much weight into this depth chart. It has not hardly changed since training camp began. In two weeks you’ll know what the coaches are really thinking.

BREAKING NEWS….All of you that are lobbbying for the BEERMAN to start at DE need to cool your jets and sit down lets have conversation.I am, as most of you, see the progress that he has made and he has become a little beast. Notice that word little, meaning he is way too small to be a three down DE, if you watched the game against the Patriots he was man handled on running downs, he is better suited for strictly 3rd down pass rushing specialist.

You guys put way too much stock in a preseason game depth chart. The coaches are move some stuff around to give these guys a chance to play and to compensate for injuries to try to stay healthy. They know what they are doing. Can’t say as much for some posters comments that indicate they believe this is a true depth chart…c’mon it’s evaluation time…not the first game of the season!

Jim — Zinger is catching the ball and is a solid blocker. (Pssst: Palmer might end up on the practice squad).

I LOVE OUR DEPTH CHART! I NEED OUR FIRST TEAM OFFENSE TO SCORE TDS IN THIS 3RD GAME. I ALSO WANT TO SEE HOW PERIA JERRY REACTS TO GAME CONDITIONS AFTER HIS ACL. THE PATRIOTS RAN ALL OVER US, SO, I HOPE THE D-LINE GETS A LIFT WITH JERRY RETURN

Y’all take preseason waaaaaaaaaaaay to seriously.

Yes the WR corp is weak but we dont exactly have a Manning,Brees,Rodgers or Favre at the QB spot either
REALLY???….go look and compare Matt Ryan’s stats to those formentioned’s first 2 years.

Who said anything about stats? You can do the ol “check the stats” line with any third year QB cause nobody is passing for 4000 yds in there first 2 seasons. Im talking about the “it” factor that you could see in the other QB’s…im a huge Falcon fan and im sorry I just dnt see it in Matt Ryan…the lack of arm strength, the happy feet when he feels pressure, the constant throwing the ball out of bounds instead of trying to make a play not to mention whenever the other team jumps offsides he takes the snap and takes a knee..umm hello thats know as a “free play” make a play Ice. I love my birds and I hope he proves me wrong but I just dnt see it.

BT, you got to be on dope. Bierman is our second best passrusher on the team. Him and Jonnny are going to be great bookend. 1st cut Jamaal Anderson, a wasted pick. Second worst since Bruce. Don’t draft another SEC player in the 1st Round.

BREAKING NEWS for SuperBirds,6′1 268lbs (Freeny) & 6′2 245lbs (Mathis) and 6′6 270lbs (Alan)& 6′5 268lbs Edwards are the Vikes and Colts DE’s and our Birds 6′4 265lbs (Ham) & 6′3 265lbs (Bierman) you do the math. That’s was just preseason and 1 game. Check out last year game films on the Beerman, tell me what you see.

All this doom and gloom for what? A depth chart that isn’t set yet? We are still in the preseason people! Take it easy!
Nichols should be the weak side backer and Weatherspoon should be on the strong side. Biermann will be the pass rushing specialist the Falcons drafted him for this season and he has looked very capable of doing that job so far. Abraham is doing very well and getting qb’s to head towards other players. He’s looked good while he’s been in there. My only real concern is getting Jerry back into game shape and allowing him to get push up the middle.
The two things we learned from the New England game were that the Falcons played un-inspired football and our fourth and fifth best corners are not good enough to hold the Pats out of the endzone! There, there is your gloom and doom people!
We should be more worried if the Falcons struggle against Miami. Let’s see Dunta against Brandon and Abe against Long. And let’s see the young and talented Dolphins defense against our offense. We should have a better idea of how good or questionable we are following this game as opposed to the last.
Hiram—-Kudos on Chase Daniels. He is a good young player with little to no chance of ever playing for the Saints. I’m sure the Rams of the world will love him playing on their team! It should bother you that the rest of the team is not playing nearly as well as they did last season but you are probably still in denial.

I would like for the falcons to sign a better back up QB. Wilson is not any good. How about Zac Champion. He was release by the BC Lions in the CFL and has a cannon and can run like he stole something. He only got released because he was a backup and would be making the most money from his contract in his final year. What do yall think. He tore it up at LaTech.

Sources out of the SD sports media is that the Falcons will ask about Vincent Jackson’s contract these are just rumors but the Falcons are looking to deal for WR Jackson .

Hunt6060. Who let you out of the asylum? This is the NFL Where do you think our last 3rd string quarterback went to attempt to play football????? And, I can’t sign Vincent Jackson. He doesn’t pass our strict character tests. We’ll go with what we got, and we’ll go, maybe, 7-9. Got to keep the fans hungry. Too much, too soon, is bad for business…..

Contract money & draft selection need to be prioritize ON THE FIELD EXECUTION…thus Kroy needs to be starting (opposite Abraham). Anderson needs to be moved to DT. Also, Bergeron should be ahead of Weems on the depth chart.
