FLOWERY BRANCH — On Twitter.com I presented the following question last night:
“With (Michael) Jenkins hurt and Kerry Meier (knee) out for the year, do the Falcons need to make a move at wide receiver? Send along your thoughts.”
Well, more than 50 people did. Here are your thoughts on the wide receiver position. A certain Mr. Jackson’s name was mentioned several times.

We need a tall physical WR with great hands and speed, or we need to use our small WR as run & shoot come back WR. The clock is ticking.

I THINK WE WILL BE FINE AT WR. EITHER H. DOUGLAS, BRIAN FINNERAN OR ERIC WEEMS WILL HAVE TO STEP UP. FALCON FANS, DONT PANIC!FIRST OF ALL, VINCENT JACKSON HAS TO SIT OUT 4 GAMES AS MANDATED BY HIS SUSPENSION. ISNT MR. BLANK AND THE ORGANIZATION TRYING TO STAY AWAY FROM THESE TYPES OF PLAYERS? SECOND OF ALL, JACKSON IS UNDER CONTRACT. IT WILL HAVE TO BE A TRADE. WHAT WOULD DIMITROFF GIVE UP? DRAFT PICKS? PLAYERS? IS HE REALLY WORTH THE RISK?

This is why the Falcons won’t make it to the Super Bowl. We have good pieces but we have to DO it now while we have Tony G. and M. Turner but instead TD will stand pat to make him look like a Draft Genius. The Falcons can’t mess around, they have to go all out this yr. Go get the players we need, we are almost there but we are going to have to make some moves and I’d bet TD and SMITTY play cute with this and the Falcons lose out!

I wouldn’t want to be working on Saturday morning either, but the AJC has reached a new low when Twitter comments are considered news. I would do just as well getting my “news” from my idiot next door neighbor who has plenty of opinions without having a clue what he’s talking about. He’s probably on the Twitter message list somewhere, but I’ll be dam#*d if I’m going to spend my time reading it to find out.

Weak minded, Jedi.
DOL did not need to visit TOAFMB for any ideas or information.
Don`t try flattering yourself with a back handed slap at DOL while bragging of an association with the clowns over there.
The idea and question of bringing on V-Jac was brought up on the Bird cage Blog within minutes of the news of Meier`s injury.
That blog just happens to be an extension or offspring of DOL`s own blog.

football is a team game that being said one plater does not make u a championship caliber team although i would like to see the falcons be more aggressive in the offseason at get free agents because a few more position could have been addressed beside corner back in the off season like the WR position they should be smarter next off season with trend these pass couple of season with our draft picks gotting hurt vincent jackson would fit in good if u ask me he should help white and tony out very well if they don’t have a good season this year they need to shake things up this off season

if the talent is out go get it thats the way i see it the falcons are holding on to player that haven’t proved thm selfs to long its like we’re going to give one more chance and then he does nothing and then your job is losted its best u get right and bring in the talent u need stop putting faith in young guys and first round draft pick that has done nothing to prove they deserve the money they make i mean come on we’ve bn waiting and waiting for guy to step up and some we where wait on before DT and smitty came to town they trade hall and keep jenkins around it maks on sence to me and people who want to say he’s a trouble maker please who would have got alone with the quiter petrino someone should clip his testes

Even before Jenkins went down we needed another big time receiver.. The problem is that if we get into a scoring match with one of the powerhouse teeams we will not be able to keep up. If we have another WR that is a threat then the possibilities are endless if Matt Ryan steps up. We need another WR. Someone with some skill and passion for the game. i dont see that in anyone we have already. Not saying they dont have it but I dont see it!!

I say go after a WR because we aka the fans don’t know if Douglas is going to stay healthy after coming from a season – ending injury. I would give my good friend Troy Bergeron a shot to start because he is a pretty good receiver and he proved it. He lead Shaw High School to State Championship and was a standout. Now, Vincent Jackson is a great receiver no doubt but his problem off the field worries me.

They definitely will need to do something, the Pats DB’s man handled them. if they do not upgrade that position and think 5 to 8 yard dinks to Gonzalez will get it done they are crazy. If teams do not respect your pass game your run game does not stand a chance because the D will keep 8 in the box all day and force you to throw the ball. Atlanta receivers are only slightly better than Tampa and that is bad, very bad.

Ryan come on dude, what happens if Brees, Brady, Manning, E. Manning go down. Oh yeah, we get to see what happens to the MIGHTY STEELERS with the alleged Rapist being suspended when we play his team. We are going to beat the Stuffing out of the Steelers because their Franchise Quarterback will not even be allowed in the Stadium that day. They have severe issues, we don’t.
It seems like you have severe issues that have become overlooked. 242.1 passing yds. allowed in 2009 makes me think that ANY qb could pass all day on this secondary so the Steelers qb won’t be an issue. Additionally with Polamalu back in the Pittsburgh lineup the Falcons are facing a top ranked defense. Pittsburgh is not going to be that easy. Obviously you must have been riding with Jonathon Babineaux on your way to Michael Vick’s house when you wrote this comment.

The Falcons brass are not going to publiclu saying they are looking for WR help, but you know they are. The Falcons have to get another playmaker at WR. Banking on Roddy White, and Harry Douglas coming off injury is not comforting. In the NFL, its not just enough to just catch the ball. You have to get yards after the catch and make plays to help your QB. May of the Falcons routes are catch and get down plays that don’t allow for the WR to get yards after the catch. If Douglas can’t provide that, then we are in trouble.

It would be great, but the price would be too high (re: draft picks).
Getting T.O. would have added some potential locker room headaches but the cost would have been much less. The “boom-bust” ratio there would have outweighed anything else that’s out there.
