today, according to his agent Kevin Conner.

Burnett, who played at North Clayton High,  was selected in the third round by the Packers. During some of the offseason workouts, he lined up with the first team defense and is believed to have a chance to start as a rookie.

The Packers are set to play the Falcons this season at the Georgia Dome on Nov. 28

“Yeah, I look forward to that,” Burnett said. “It will give my my parents a chance to see me. But I’m just looking forward to just really going into camp and physically be a part of the NFL. It’s like a dream come true.  I want to try my best to play as long as I can.”

Anything but a slow news day. Wrote NFLagents/Labor story, broke Burnett story (he is a College Park native) and finished Sunday story.

Ha! Ok – you did write that it was about to be done on Tuesday. You get credit for that!

How about the Browns are 1 week away from Training Camp – meaning everyone else is soon to follow!

How about an article that Geno Atkins signed his contract?

Nice another Tech alum making noise in the majors. It seems like the MLB, NBA, NFL, and PGA are loaded with Yellow Jackets and they actually accomplish a lot in each respective sport…such as being all stars, winning events, and making important plays to help their team win. I sense a little envy from the doggies…very proud of the professional athletes GT has produced in the last decade…its been special watching them all reach for professional success…of course you guy wouldn’t understand because most of you have accomplished nothing with your sad lives. GO Jackets! and good luck to Morgan…at least Tech fans dont rip UGA pros like Matt Stafford…I think the kid has a bright future…keep it classy dogs.

Here are just a few names…Mark Teixeira( one of the best 1st baseman in the Majors)….Chris Bosh (in the top two at the PF position in the NBA..perennial all star)…Calvin Johnson(very good NFL wide out that is compared to Moss by many analyst….already producing good numbers with atrocious QB play in Detroit)….Stewart Cink (2009 British Open winner) just to name a few. Its honestly crazy that a school with only 13000 students produces so many successful pros…we have a lot to be proud of. Not to mention a first round draft pick in the three major sports this year…Deck McGuire (11th pick in MLB draft)….Demaryius Thomas(number one receiver in NFL draft)…Derrick Morgan(13th overall pick in NFL draft)….Derrick Favors( Number 3 pick in the NBA draft)….sorry didn’t mean to brag…but its hard with that kind of success. Its great to be a Yellow Jacket!

oldandntheway…Gailey never finished with less than 7 wins…not that Tech fans were content with that. In fact GT has not finished with less than seven wins since 1996. They are in fact tied with UGA with a 13 year bowl steak…at least know what your talking about before posting.

Forget the carping….It will be a pleasure to watch Burnett play anywhere. He may not have the size of a Swilling…but he is one of the fastest safeties I have ever seen come out of Georgia Tech. And the HANDS….the guys got bug fingers. The ball just clings. Really wished we had him as a Falcon corner. Green Bay will allow him to shine!

This once again proves that GT players do much better in the pros than UGA’s overhyped, undercooked product. This is true not just in sports but in other professions as well

Did you forget BIG PLAY Willie Clay at New England? I think he is the best Dback from GT you have to think about Don Bessilliue for Miami too. Like Eddie Lee Iveory and Dorcey Levens I hate it for you Morgan having to wear that GOD awful G on their helmet. Well, at least you are getting paid to wear that G.

Tech has put out some good quality players but UGA still outclasses them in the NFL. I will just list a few of the ‘great’ ones.

Fran Tarkenton
Champ Bailey
Herschel Walker
Marcus Stroud
Richard Seymour
Hines Ward

I could go on and on and on. 45 players from UGA were on NFL rosters last season.

Tech has them beat in other sports for sure. Baseball especially.
Regarding the NBA… Who would be Techs best player of all time? Bosh?, maybe Marburry? UGA is easy, Dominique Wilkens and a bunch of chumps since then :)

Good luck to Morgan, he seems like a good kid.

Mike Jay and TECH has 30 players on NFL rosters and they didn’t take basketball 101 classes either or major in PE, Teaching, or Urban & Housing Developement. UGA football turns out players or dropouts or government employees. Great the Tax payer is on the hook for more than 98% of the money UGA players will make in the future.

Mike thanks for showing class. I agree that UGA has turned out some fine NFL players. Tech has produced some great ones too. They both make the state proud in that regard. Its rare to meet dog fans like you. As for the NBA I would say it has to be Chris Bosh or Mark Price so far…Marbury had the potential to be the best PG of all time but he had a bad attitude and ruined his career. The best baseball player in Tech history is a harder question…It has to be Jason Varitek or Nomar Garciaparra….I guess Nomar gets the nod since he has a .313 career batting average in the MLB. On the topic of Morgan Burnett…I really think he will be a starter in Green Bay by next year…he is a natural ball hawk.

Mike Jay – Don’t forget Charlie Trippi – one of 2 ex-UGA players (with Tarkenton) in Canton.
GT has 2 also.
I think Herschel should be in the HOF – it’s called the “Pro Football Hall of Fame” not the “NFL Hall of Fame”. He had a great career in the NFL and if you add his yards in the USFL it becomes a no-brainer. I think he is penalized for the infamous trade between the Cowboys and the Vikings.

Congratulations to UNO for the signing of his contract. Its great to see this young man going as far as he has. As a sophomore in HS, we knew he would make it to play on Saturdays AND Sundays as long as he kept himself out of trouble.

The Southside of metro-Atlanta has produced quality Defensive Backs (Eric Berry & Morgan Burnett) and another good one (Adam Jones) and will produce another in the league next year FSU’s Terrance Parks.

Wiley,
Thanks for the compliments. i am huge UGA fan and alum but born and raised in ATL and grew up going to tech games so i never bought into the old fashioned hate nonsense.
How could I forget mark Price! Great player and man.
I would give the nod to Nomar over Varitek. Though Texira cold pass them both.

I love the fact Tech’s Football program is on the rise. It’s good for both schools to keep it a healthy and even rivalry. PJ is a fine coach and when that offense is clicking it’s helluva lot of fun to watch.

Pissondawg,
Your comments made little to no sense in regard to the context of the discussion, but congratulations on making yourself look like a jackass.

Paul,

Forgot Trippi and a ton of others :) Al lthe ones i listed have a good shot at the HOF imo and yes Walker should be in there but the NFL is still embarrassed an upstart league stole so many good players.

On topic:

Agree with wiley, Burnett will get a great shot at starting. Packers are extremely young at safety and he is a playmaker.
