BIRDLAND – Former Falcons wide receiver Terance Mathis will hold the Elite 1 Performance Blue Chip football camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodward Academy in College Park.

The free camp is for high school football players, college athletes, and NFL players. You can register for the camp by going to: www.Escconnect.org

“We want this blue chip camp to be a different experience for the participants,” Mathis said. “There will be position specific drills and not only will high school athletes gain more experience so will the invited college and NFL players.”

The camp staff will consist of college, current or retired NFL players, and high school coaches as well as speed and agility trainers and a number of scouting services. The goal is to provide an exclusive training experience including skills, nutrition and lifestyle.

Some of the camp counselors include  Mathis, Gary Downs, Quincy Carter and Jessie Tuggle.

Here are some highlights from last year’s camp.

Mathis is the Falcons’ all-team leader in receiving yards with 7,349 and single season leader in catches with 111 in 1994. He spent 13 years in the NFL, including being with the Falcons from 1994 to 2001.

Recently the AJC’S Ken Sugiura did a feature with Mathis.

WOW…folks are really hard on people. Her is a guy trying to do something that is right…and he is catching it real bad from people. So because he was in M Vick’s golf tourny…no one should look to him for guidance? Are you for real…people…get a life!

Now…seeing Q Carter’s name up there had me wondering also. Maybe he can tell kids what not to do….

I was in attendance at the camp and assisted as well. It was very professionally run with a key component present at all times, the development and nurturing of young men. It is very easy to sit back and judge from your perfect vantage point and be critical of individuals who dare to make a difference despite their own imperfections. I say BRAVO to all who opt to give freely of time and reources for the benefit of others.

Our son attended this camp and it was excellent, from the tutelage to the mentorship. Nothing inappropriate in any of the coaches’ language or conversational content was present. We would send him again… it was GREAT. Thanks so much, Mr. Terance Mathis, for providing this camp!

For the ones that post negative comments are you so unhappy that you want the world to be unhappy. I can’t see anything negative about what TM is doing for the high school football players. I agree wholeheartedly. I suppose those people have never made mistakes? :D I’m sure you wouldn’t want people dis-counting the good things you do now for mistakes you made in the past…
