Kerry Meier holds the Kansas school record for most career receptions.
BIRDLAND – Falcons wide receiver Kerry Meier, a fifth round draft pick, has signed a four-year contract worth $1.947 million with the Atlanta Falcons.
Meier was the 165th player taken in the 2010 NFL draft. Of the 38 fifth round picks, 28 have signed.

The Falcons have signed five of their six draft picks. First round draft pick Sean Weatherspoon is the remaining unsigned rookie.
Meier, 23, began as a quarterback at Kansas, but was switched to wide receiver in 2007. The 6-foot-2, 224-pound receiver set career (226) and single-season (102) receiving marks for the Jayhawks.
After the draft, Meier was asked about his favorite routes while at Kansas.
“I caught a lot of balls over the middle,” Meier said. “A lot of over routes, whether if they came off of a boot or a naked (boot). I caught a lot of balls over the middle, catching like digs . . . the intermediate routes. I got a lot of mileage out of catching balls over the middle.”
The competition at the wide receiver position will be fierce in training camp. After Roddy White, Michael Jenkins and Harry Douglas, there are seven players on the roster fighting for two or three spots.
The other wide receivers include Brian Finneran, Eric Weems, Troy Bergeron, Tim Buckley, Brandyn Harvey, Andy Strickland and Ryan Wolfe.

Great Blog DOL… Due to his draft ranking, I think Meier is practically as lock. Who are the one or two who might surprise in terms of roster spots? I can’t imagine that Finneran can make it after another knee injury. I like Weems and Wolfe.

Keep Finn and Meier along with White, Jenkins and Douglas. Weems on practice roster. Or, since Douglas is coming off an injury, You put Weems on and put Finn on practice squad?

If Finn Dawg is healthy and 100%, there no doubt he’s the 4 and Meier the 5. If he’s truely 100%, by saesons end he’s the 3 and Douglas the 2. See all Falcons fans in Dallas.

I am certainly welcoming the idea of having all our draft picks in camp on time.
But I just do not think its right to have extended negotiations with a fifth round pick. I would think so late in the draft he would just get signed for slightly more than last years pick at the spot and be done with it. Not that I have any doubt Mr. Meier will be a fine pro. I just don’t get it I guess.

I don’t think that anyone should be assumed to have a lock on their position, especially Jenkins. (All right, I realize Roddy probably DOES have a lock, but I’ll bet Mike Smith doesn’t talk as if he does). Our crew (including Roddy) had some problems getting separation last year (everyone admitted it), and I’ll bet they’ll be looking hard at all the contestants in camp. I’m a big fan of Douglas, but he’s gonna have to show his stuff all over again. Meier has hands of glue and is fearless (and he’s quicker than Finneran)…don’t be surprised if he lands a slot.

On my wish list is Marques Colston of New Orleans and Miles Austin of Dallas. Of course we can not have these guys, but I would like someone of who we have to resemble their play. That is the kind of receiver that we need in order to dominate.
Matt Ryan’s recent study and employment of “Dinkin & Dunkin” will open up a receiver who can stretch the field and there will be no stopping us.
This season is going to be the best yet, you’ll see.

Who is Kerry Meier you ask? Here is a list of his accomplishments. Bear in mind, he played on two bowl winning teams and a Jayhawks team that went 12-1 including an Orange Bowl victory. And let’s also not forget he came into Kansas as a Quarter Back. He is an athlete that could very well become a poor man’s Wes Welker. Same 4.6 time in the 40. Here are the accomplishments…
Biletnikoff Award Candidate (one of 10), All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, KU co-Most Improved Offensive Player, KU co-Courageous Award, KU Offensive Player of the Week vs. FIU and co vs. Missouri. 2007: Academic All-Big 12 Second Team, KU co-Offensive Player of the Week vs. Iowa State, KU Weight Room Award, KU Unselfish Player Award. 2006: KU Offensive Player of the Week vs. Northwestern State and Oklahoma State. 2005: KU Offensive Scout Team MVP.

To me with Shockley removed from the roster.Meier could fill his slot. Then push John Parker to the practice squad .Finneran looses his spot honestly and Weems main reason on the team was PR.He dropped quit a few last year and with Harry Douglass coming back. That spells his demise.Bergeron has been on the practice squad for a few seasons,he will stay there. That leaves Roddy,Mike J.,Harry D.,Kerry M. and Brandyn H.This is the biggest bang for the buck, lineup. But if injury or T.O. comes down in price.Jenkins is in alittle trouble.

As far as the WR position goes: you mentioned the “top three” as White, Jenkins and Douglas, but I think the Falcons, as a veteran team, need to either get more from Jenkins or put him in that second group of guys fighting for a job.
Were it up to me, when you mentioned “Brian Finneran, Eric Weems, Troy Bergeron, Tim Buckley, Brandyn Harvey, Andy Strickland and Ryan Wolfe” as the second tier of guys fighting for 2 or 3 spots… I would take the first three on that list and get rid of the last 4. We need experienced guys and I like the skill set of Weems, Finneran and Bergeron.
Plus, some good play calling can get all these guys involved in the offense, so our passing game is more than just Gonzalez and White.
Can’t wait for football season!

A ‘tween is a contraction of between, ‘tween is commonly used to describe a person in the 11 to 13 years old range, that is somewhere between being an adolescent and a teenager.
A person that should be more interested in developing relationship with other girls or boys(whatever the case may be), than trying to start arguments with grown men or women on the internet, especially about a crummy football team like the saints.
But that, is just my opinion.
And before I end my commentary, I would like to point out, that the saints and all of their fans, aint dog doo-doo in Bin Laden’s backyard(or the back of his cave, as the case may be).

Whats with Kerry Meier trying to deal as a 5th rounder ? He dropped to the 5th round for a reason. Are The Falcons that convinced that he is going to stick on the club and be that good that they are willing to give him a 4 year deal ?
Mike Jenkins will have a bust out year with a better OL and better play from Matty Ice. When Ice gets more time to throw, his accuracy and Jenkins receptions will go up. I like Jenkins and he I think he is going to be alright .
Though I like Brandyn Harvey and Meier , I still believe they are going to have to have an Outstanding training camp to beat out war-horse veteran Finneran. But youth may be served this year.
I see us as a 11-win team…Losing in the playoffs because our D-Line still has holes at tackle. Peria Jerry Is Still Hobbling and appears to be injury prone and a slow healer.
But all in all we are a much better team than we were just 3 years ago.

mcat or NOLA or hiramsaint or whatever you want to call yourself(it’s kind of pathetic when a person uses several different handles on one blog, to answer and support him or herself).I’ll respond to you, this one and final time.
Once again, that is just my opinion.

Gotta love ‘con fans, they are so dumb they believe that one person actually has time to post as three different people. Only in GA.
Ga logic at it’s finest.

Hey D.OL I was on the bandwagon to get another good receiver, but the more you step back and look at it all, you really need are more consistent receivers. Peyton Manning could ask for & probably get any FA out there but all he does is take what Polian picks, mold it & demand accountability. So we need to let Matt grow up, take control, & just be our leader.
Just look a the league you can be loaded at wr & be soft in the running game and vice versa. Everyone of the so-called elite has that QB that is just, in charge, Brees started changing about 2 yrs ago. Even Ray Lewis is starting to let the guys out there know that Flacco is their present & future, you can tell by what he says in some of the interviews.
Yes our future lies with Matt knowing he is the man, period. I’m not saying get the big head & cuss Gonzalez out, but ask for and receive accountability cause Baltimore is putting a pretty good core together. We are gonna be ok too, just another little notch in Matt’s belt and we won’t even worry about who play recevier, because if Big Ben can do it I know Matt can.

The bigest thing from last year until now, we won football games without our best -AT TIMES, this year so far we have strengthen ourselves with the well and better shape starters. Now if I were them, I would be very, very glad to get back. My reason being the backups wont to play, and get this if I take time off, THEY WILL PLAY. I like the ideal of have the O and the D go after each other in traing camp, trust me, this will make us a better team. THERE ARE ONLY PLAYERS THAT WILL START WITHOUT QUESTION————RYAN, TONY, RODDY, DAUNTA, I don’t know about you, this excites me no matter what. I have only one question-????? DID MIKE MULARKEY LEARN ANYTHING FROM LAST YEAR??????? TURN THE BIRDS LOOSE AND LET THEM FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
