NFL looking into shooting at Vick’s birthday party

Roddy White attended Michael Vick's football camp, but had left the party before an early a.m. shooting occurred.

Updated, Mon. 7:36 a.m.

The National Football League and the Philadelphia Eagles are gathering information on the shooting that occurred after Michael Vick’s birthday party last Thursday outside of Virginia Beach.

The league is checking to see if the player conduct policy was violated or if Vick violated his federal probation order. He’s under probation for three years as part of his federal dogfighting conviction.

Vick’s attorney stated that he was not involved in the shooting.

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, who went to help at Vick’s youth football game and was at the party, said they both had left long before the shooting occurred.

“We have been looking into it to determine the facts,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an e-mail Sunday sent to USA Today.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell addressed Vick’s plight at the rookie symposium to reporters last night.
“Obviously, we’ve got to look and see whether there was any violation of policy,” Goodell said.

Vick could be facing another suspension from the league.

Updated, SAT 9:24 A.M.

Falcons Pro Bowl wide receiver Roddy White was at  Michael Vick’s 30th birthday party, but left before the shooting of one of Vick’s co-defendants in the federal dog fighting case occurred.

“We were already gone by the time that stuff started happening, so I don’t know what’s going to go on with that or whatever, but we didn’t have anything to do with it,” White told the Newport News Daily Press during a break in the youth football camp.

Falcons Pro Bowl wide receiver Roddy White attended Michael Vick’s football camp at Hampton University on Thursday but was not at a party later that night when a shooting took place.

“Just got off the plane. Goin(g) to Mike Vick’s football camp in VA. Should be good,” White tweeted at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday off his Twitter.com account.

Later, at 11: 05 he tweeted, “Camp was nice. It was hot, but fun.”

Jonathan Feinsod spoke to White’s mother and she said Roddy was fine. He wasn’t sure if White was in Virginia or back in Atlanta, but he was not present at the time of the shooting.

“Roddy is pretty loyal to his friends,” Feinsod said on Friday. “I’m sure he wasn’t involved in anything.”

Several Virginia media outlets have reported that Quanis Phillips, one of Vick’s co-defendants in the federal dogfighting trial, was shot after a birthday party for Vick after 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Lawrence Woodward, Vick’s attorney, said his client was not involved or present during the shooting.

Former Falcon DeAngelo Hall, who currently plays for the Washington Redskins, was listed as one o f the “invited” guests on the flyer for the party. But Friday evening he tweeted that he wasn’t there.

“I understand I was mentioned as a special ‘invited’ guest to attend, but as most of you know I’ve been on vacation with my family,” Hall sent in a tweet at 3:49 on Friday.

Track, it just depends on what the investigation turns up. The fact that nobody will talk is not good for Vick either. Unfortunatly for VIck, neither Goodall, nor the Feds need solid proof of anything. Vick gave up his right to “shadow of a doubt” when he signed his parole agreement.

Track, having a birthday party is humble,

having a huge birthday bash that is advertised and promoted, where gunfire erupts does not bring up images of contrition and humbleness.

Sorry, I am not buying it.

DID YOU NOT READ THE PART WHERE THE POLICE SAY THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN SPEAKING WITH VICK. OR IS THAT A SENTENCE YOU CONVIENTLY MISSED.

SO YOU TELLING ME THAT THE FLYER SAID BIG BIRTHDAY BASH FOR MIKE VICK AND SOMEONE WILL BE SHOT WHEN IT IS OVER. HOW IN THE HE** WOULD HE HAVE KNOWN THAT WHEN HE LEFT THAT SOMEONE WAS GOING TO BE SHOOTING. AND IT WAS A RESTARAUNT THE MEDIA MAKING IT OUT TO BE CLUB.

The police have not interest in talking to VIck, but I did not see where the investigation into the shooting is over. I see nobody is talking, so there are still a lot of unanswered questions. .That could very well change.

Plus, I did not see where Goodall or the Feds said they have no interest in talking to Vick.

Dawg Track, If Vick had a brain in his head, he would keep a low profile, Having a big celebration where alcohol is served is not doing that.

Also, it is not about me, I am not on probation, I am not on TV telling everyone that I was an arrogant SOB, and that I “changed” and am “humbled”.

Fact is, he made the same mistake, his associates (anyone attracted to his well advertised bash) might bring him down again. It is sad really.

I AGREE WITH THAT ASSESSMENT BUT ALL THE TALK THAT MAKES VICK GUILTY OF ACTUALLY DOING ANYTHING OTHER THAN HAVING A PARTY IS CRAZY. THE PARTY WAS FINE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PRIVATE ONE THOUGH.

Vick should pick his associates wisely, and having an open birthday bash, where anyone who shows up is now associated with you is not smart by any means. I don’t know what will happen, nobody at this point knows what will happen at this point. It just depends on how the shooting investigation goes, and how the Feds and Goodall decide to go. You also have the Eagles, they might just dump him too.

Track, we agree on something. Having a party is fine, but it should have been private, invitation only, with security keeping uninvited guests out. Whoever suggested the idea that he have an open public party is not very bright.

I actually like Vick, I was cheering for him when he played against the Falcons. Ioved to watch him play, but he just seem to have bad judgement.

Do you play in the NFL? Are you on probation with the Feds?

Actually, if you were on probation for robbing banks, and you opened and account, and the bank got robbed after shortly after you walked out, I bet the Feds very well might give you a call.

Finally, it was not random, it was a party that donned his name. Innocent/Guilty, it does not matter. It was bad judgement.

Some of you are not looking at this in the proper perspective. Vick is on parole. As part of his parole, he is suppose to stay out of these types of situations and stay away from people who are viewed as the criminal element. Is this fair? It’s not for me or you to say. It is the terms of his parole and if he can’t abide by it, his parole should be overturned and he should be sent back to prison to complete his sentence. I know if I were in prison and got a chance at parole, I would do whatever is necessary to make damn sure I never violate that parole. But that’s just me.

Here is the location where the party was held. I am sure folks in ATL will definitely not call this a club. it looks like an upscale chipotle.

select locations, select town center, select virtual tour. looks more like the varsity than a club.

The NFL Commissioner and more impotantly The Feds are not going to end up with egg on their face AGAIN bc of Mike Vick. He is a high profile target and they will thoroughly investgate. This will include questioning Quannis Phillips who is also on federal probation. He may not answer to the local Newport News police, but I have a feeling he will certainly be truthful with The Feds. If and when it comes out that he was (or has been for all we know) associating with Vick again…Mike Vick’s second chance and his freedom and his career are gone.

If he slides through on this one – I give him 5 years tops in the NFL. He will blow it with some other dumb move. He won’t change – accept it.

People saying things like, “We don’t know that Vick was involved in the shooting.” It happened at his party. I’ve thrown lots of parties. Nobody ever got shot. I don’t have people at my parties that will shoot other people, and I certainly don’t have people who deserve to get shot.

Come on guys…..let’s see what we have here:
1) The party was by invite only.
2) MV and RW were all ready gone when the killing happened.
3) The person killed was not invited.
4) It appears (don’t know yet, because no one is talking) that someone at the party killed him
5) The person who did the shooting was an invite to the party (don’t know yet because no one is talking).
6) The local police are not implicating MV because he was not there.
7) The Feds probably will not talk to MV until the investigation is complete and all the facts are known.
8) The NFL and RG will not talk to MV until all the facts are in.

When the facts come in EVERYONE will know what happened and then we can have this back & forth all over again.

People, People, People… I don’t understand some of your comments like you never did anything wrong. Vick paid for what he did with prison time. He has not made excuses about what he did. He talks to many at risk kids about not following the same path he went on. He do thinks for the less fortunate, so let me ask you what do you do besides stay in your comfort zone and criticise? Do you not have parties and is everyone at your party a saint? I really don’t think so can you say your a perfect person? Do you not manipulate people in some sort, form or fashion for your personal gain? Did Vick shoot anyone? Come on guys what are you gonna do when your skeletons come out your closet?

His debt to society was not paid in full as he was still on federal probabtion…..a probabtion revocation hearing is likely to decide whether he will finish paying that debt on the inside of a prison or the on outside.

From the Newport News Daily Press
“The reports that say someone was shot at his party are not correct. The shooting occurred outside the place,” said Lawrence H. Woodward Jr., Michael Vick’s attorney. “Mike is not involved in any way. Michael left somewhere around 2 a.m.”

According to police, the shooting occurred at 2:10 a.m.

Roddy White, a receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, said he and Michael Vick were at the party, but not at the time of the shooting. Vick had picked him up at the airport earlier in the day for White to assist with Vick’s local football camp.

“We were already gone by the time that stuff started happening, so I don’t know what’s going to go on with that or whatever, but we didn’t have anything to do with it,” White said on Friday during a break in the youth football camp.

A fight broke out as the club was closing, and one man was shot in the leg, said Adam Bernstein, spokesman for Virginia Beach police. The shooter has not been identifed by police but the investigation is ongoing.”

It’s not my fault that you decided to become the Perez Hilton of the NFL, DOL. That was your choice by trying to drum up comments with reporting on the same kind of things as Perez Hilton instead of what is relevant on the field.

The fact that you deleted my earlier comment as such clearly is also something I would expect Perez Hilton to do. I can understand if you delete a comment because it is in some way offensive or vulgar, but to delete comments from people only because you can’t handle the honest criticism is extremely lame.
