BIRDLAND – It’s 35 days before the Falcons are due to report for training camp.
But go ahead and get your digital and paper calendars out. (Some of us old-schoolers still write stuff down on old paper calendars and planners! Some of you big-timers, can call your executive assistants into your swank offices and have them set your calendars.)
The team released the practice schedule and 20 of the sessions, including the practices with the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars, are open to the public.
In addition to the 18 practices, the team will hold its Falcons Allstate All-Access “Friday Night Lights” scrimmage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 6 at North Gwinnett High school.
Also the public will have access to a Mock Game at Flowery Branch at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 7.
The Falcons will conduct 31 practices, including 15 two-a-day sessions, at their training facility.
The combined practices with New England and Jacksonville will be the first for the Falcons in six years.
Jacksonville will visit Atlanta for practices on Monday, August 9 and Tuesday, August 10; and New England will head to Flowery Branch for practice on Tuesday, August 17, two days before the teams battle in a preseason meeting at the Georgia Dome.
The last time Atlanta participated in combined practices was when they traveled to Tennessee during training camp in 2004.
Below are the details of the Falcons 2010 training camp practice schedule. Dates and times are subject to change. For additional information regarding changes in practice times or weather delays please call: 770.965.2752 or visit the Falcons mobile website at www.atlantafalcons.mobi.

I’d take any nut job over Obama. Come on, you see the light as we all do two years later. A community organizer can’t run the country. I see alot of nut jobs (including Obama) in his cabinet. However, they’re all the same, reguardless of what badge they wear. I just want to see someone step up and lead this country back to greatness, whether he/she is a democrate or republican.

Geeez guys, I was all pumped after i read DOL’s article and was excited to see the comments. Then this turned into a political discussion. I am sure that there are many of us that disagree politically yet we are united by a common love for the birds. Can we please just keep it at that? Sports is where I go to forget about the junk going on in the world. Politics are important but football is an escape and it would be great if we could just keep it that way. With respect – lets just get excited about being able to see Brady, Moss, Jones Drew, Ryan, Turner, and Spoon.

DLED—Since you asked, the entire thing started durring the Clinton Administration when they demanded Banks to lend money to people with questionable credit. In 2004, Bush called for hearings into the housing committee to see if the practice should end. However, Ben Bernakey told then President Bush that there was nothing wrong with Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. He repeated those sentiments in 2007 and 2008, shortly before the housing collapse. Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd and Harry Reid all agreed with him. Obama also agreed with Bernakey and sat on the housing committee. Since, that is where the economy began to falter then it is accurate to point at Obama’s lack of credible leadership when he is blaming Bush for this mess.
I’ll also point out that Obama has had 67 days to address the Gulf Oil Spill, has turned down 13 nations that offered help(including Denmark that had ships capable of containing the spill less then 1,300 miles from the Gulf), has established no plan to deal with the spill, points his finger at BP and Bush and is now receiving from within his own Party. I haven’t even talked about him taking over the banking industry, GM, Chysler or healthcare. Let alone the fact that Americans are having major set backs in Iraq and Afghanistan. Or that the national debt has tripled within his first two years in office. He’s created a permanent bailout for his supporters on Wall Street, that our children and grand children will have to pay for, in the future. He’s also passed the single largest tax increase in History and let the Bush tax cuts fall away. Unless I’m missing something, asking who’s ass to kick is not very Presidential.
Obama’s had the time but, as the Japanese Prime Minister once put it, “Obama is taking the American people on a path to Hell.” With talent like that we can ill afford much more of his time!
Now, back to football. I am really looking forward to the practices with the Pats and Jags. They should give us a good indication of where the Falcons have improved and where they need to improve.

Man-O-Man it’s hot out here today–guess that’s why all the political talk. Both major political parties are equally responsible for the mess we’ve been in for over a century and yet we continue to let them play keep-away with our government. Unimaginably wealthy and powerful individuals have always been able to manipulate us and our “representatives” with ease. The founders of our Republic warned us that these things would happen without constant vigilance and guess what…. Literally, generations of Americans have grown up believing that this is the way things ought to be, virtually insuring the contiuation of our sorry condition. Every time signifigant opposition to the status quo arises, a manufactured “crisis”will distract us enough to sap the energy building toward real change. It’s been working for hundreds of years. I had hoped that the relatively free exchange of ideas via the internet would be the vehicle for America to break free from our collective programming and actually overcome the obstacles placed in the way of true Liberty (and perhaps it will) but I remain pessimistic.
I am, however, optimistic about our Falcons’ upcoming season…bread and circuses for all!

We are now in an Uncle Ben’s Minute rice society. We think everything can get done with no problem. This isn’t like turning on a light switch and even that is more complicated than you may think.

So you’re implying that this country has had problems? Since when? truth,
I did not make it a race issue. You implied that I did but I never said it was because he’s black he’s not getting any respect. I think because the media blows up his business it makes it easier to be more critical of him. I heard more about Obama in less than a year than I have about the other presidents in their 1st term alone. I never said it was a race issue, someone earlier implied in their comment that we need a real American leader so I just took that exact phrase an used it. You continue to imply things are costing more. I have yet to see an increase in my taxes or in a lot of other things minus inflation costs that exist anyways. Now, we got people like falcon4ever throwing around the Socialist agenda stuff.
I don’t agree with everything that is going on, but the one thing I have done is support my President no matter what. I did support Bush. I think many were harder on him than he deserved. I get mad at the comedians that make jokes saying that Clinton was our 1st Black president. Race isn’t an issue to me, but I do feel like Obama is placed under a larger microscope because the media make a fuss about it and society wants to see what will happen and everytime something doesn’t go as planned people want to jump ship and all the negativity begins to come out.

Am I “Obama has no clue” I just find it hiliarious that people are ready to call for his head and we haven’t given anything a chance yet. We have given our Falcons 3 years and we expect Super Bowl but if they don’t we still support them but an issue larger than football and we expect it all in one decision? What have we figured out? I work in a gov’t office and trust a lot of these issues existed well before I was born so it’s going to take time. You got to get people to buy into what you’re doing. I’m pretty sure if Coach Smith wanted to run the ball all day and his OC didn’t it would cause a rift and when bad things happen the HC gets all the blame, but as we see when you get people a legitimate chance to do something things can happen. Two years ago we are 11-5 and in the playoffs last year 9-7 but no playoffs but we remain hopeful and know it wasn’t a dropoff but a part of the growing process. If this happens in the game of football I’m pretty sure it happens elsewhere.

Me, I read and listen to all kinds of stuff, but there are impartial sources politifact and annenberg are 2 of the best which filters out a lot of the garbage.
And I don’t think you really understand where this debt originated. It started with the founding of this country. We’ve had federal debt for over 230 years. However, 30 years ago Reagan quintupled the debt to a trillion dollars. Back then, a trillion dollars was a lot of money. And that’s where most of our debt problems started.
Lastly, Karl Marx wasn’t a socialist, he was a communist. There is a difference, and if you like to throw labels around (and you really seem like you love doing that) you should understand the difference. And if you did, you’d understand that we’re still operating in a democracy.

Political and Religious debates lead to nowhere but at least for a while longer we still have the freedom to openly discuss them. One last note . @ from the stands, I didnt know that about Pulitzer. Good to know. But you are right. dregulation and lobbiyist basically run the country now. Yeah the people vote for the politicans but the politicians represent the private corporations. The founders created the “Senate” because they felt the “people” were to stupid to elect and govern themselves. Only through sheer fighting was the “House” given for representation purposes and we all know what little power they have. We need to take a lead and tell these corporations who have monoplies on everything from food to entertainment that “free enterprise” is what this country was founded on and its what made this country great! And you wonder why Obama wanted to put the money in escrow?
BTW; the Valdez spilled and that was it. 1 tanker dumped; all on the surface. We don’t have the technology to shut this spill off because we haven’t adequately regulated the industry. In fact “Tax reductions always stimulate business” and you can look back at Bushs tax cuts in 2001 to prove that fallacy. You can also look at Clinton raising taxes in 1994 and see how the economy took off.
And actually, yes; Democrats taking control of the house just as the “great recession” started is a coincidence. Economic circumstances need time to matriculate and percolate. Usually 6-9 months; maybe longer.
truth @ 5:50 – anymore (and that’s another discussion) it doesn’t matter if you’re from the left or the right; politicians don’t listen to us; they listen to the lobbysts who give them enormous amounts of money. And if you grab a torch, I’ll grab my pitchfork and let’s storm the bastille together.

If we had allowed BP to execute their first 14 plans, instead of having the President block the efforts, then we probably would have already completely been finished with this spill. Yes, the Exxon Valdez and this Gulf Oil Spill are different in a few ways. First the Gulf Oil Spill is much bigger, more costly, been going on longer and has been talked about but ignored by the person in the White House(who’s taken three vacations to Chicago, a trip overseas, taken in a ball game and had a photoshoot while playing basketball).

Simply look at the stock market or any other leading economic indicator and you’ll see that I’m right again. The Clinton tax hike of 1994 was dismissed by a Republican majority, lead by Newt Gingrich, in 1996 that passed their Contract with America and put forth a balanced budget. truth – Amen, brother.
FalconsFan284 – There’s just so little of what you said that’s factually correct; I’m just amazed. First, BP started off lying about how much oil was leaking (and we took their word for it) grossly underestimating the damage. Second, BP worked their way up from doing the cheapest fixes to the most expensive fixes to contain the spill. In fact it’s darn near impossible to clean this up when it’s leaking faster than we can clean.
And I’m sure you expect the President to swim a mile down in the ocean and use his heat vision to seal the leak (isn’t that what Reagan would have done?) but most of us rely on things like ’scientists’ and ‘experts’ (crazy; I know) to figure out what to do.
Did you know this happened 30 years ago in Mexico? They did all the same things we’ve tried (top kill, junk shot, etc). The well leaked for 10 months until they drilled the relief well to stop it. That was in 159 feet of water. All I want to know is why we haven’t required the industry to develop better technology. They’re certainly not going to spend the money to develop it on their own.

FalconsFan284 – I’m not sure which economy you were watching, but it certainly wasn’t ours. When Bush was running for re-election in 2004, the question was; would he be the 1st president in history to have not had 1 net job created while in office. The stock market was basically flat for the 1st 4 years. Almost all of the movement in the market took place in 2006 & the 1st half of 2007, which was simply the bubble before it burst.
What does “The Clinton tax hike of 1994 was dismissed by a Republican majority” mean? The fact is that Clinton did raise taxes, which increased revenue, which allowed us to balance the budget. Budgets start with the President and work their way down, not the other way around. You can’t blame President Obama for a deficit budget but credit Gingrich and congress for a balanced budget. Pick one side or the other.

from the stands—I love that you say I am factually wrong and then give nothing to support your statement. Not that there is any, since I told the truth. Here are some more facts for you, since you need them and Keither Olbermann isn’t telling you any, Obama’s administration has rejected the first 14 proposals made by BP to clean up and cap this well. So, if you want to say someone’s at fault for doing the same things Mexico tried 30 years ago then perhaps you could say Obama. Since he is the one that is allowing them to try only things that have failed in the past. Good try on attempting to place blame on someone other then the president.
Why don’t we do some of the things the Ukranians(sorry if I misspelled it) tried when they had an oil spill in the mid 1980’s? They had their well capped and contained within 60 days. I guess we have to ignore what they did because they were a bunch of Communists that didn’t give a rat’s butt about the environment and only looked at getting one of their chief exports back on track as soon as possible! The British government was so angry that they practically forced the US to hire scientisits from the Middle East who were experienced in dealing with spills to aid clean it up…
Point is… BP isn’t going to allow the US Govt to tell it what to do. BP is as they say “to big to fail”. The US has had to go around BP to get things done there way and the US still doesnt have complete control. Why?/ Because Oil companies where given the poewer to regulate themselves. When did this happen? Its happened over decades but a large part of the legislation happened during Lil Bush’s watch. Hmmmmmmmm And you talk about the President going off on his offical engagements, wasn’t the Head Exec of BP just in an Yacht race? Not to mention the ongoing slaughter of the creatures in the gulf due to this disaster. I ask, why in hell are there no boat skimming the ocean. It’s as if no one gives a damn. I’m not kidding, all the boats are near the rig, meanwhile the rest of the spill is just travelling down the coast. I blame the dirtbag oil companies for cutting costs every chance they get. But whether obama likes it or not. We in the gulf feel as if the government could do more. Why in hell don’t we accept the other nations that have offered help? I don’t get it, meanwhile our beaches are tainted for who knows how long! It’s sickening what has happened!

I will always respect the office of the President of the USA, but I am afraid you can look at the office of the Presidency and see we lack leadership and knowledge to do the job. That is what is lacking in this country and we will continue to suffer until we get leaders back in leadership positions. Our leaders of today have their own personal agenda and could care less about the pride, the well being of everyone and making the right common sense choices. It starts at youth league games (daddyball) and goes all the way to Washington. No morals, no conscience to do the right thing and no pride. The Falcons have a leader and I hope the players will listen to him and follow him.

You’re right the country started as a republic but if you know your US history the party that was called republic is the same party that is now know as the Democratic party. What has any president done in less than a year? Nothing, so lets wait and see before we begin to pass judgement.

When are all you obama supporters going to quit blaming Bush for our problems? Obama has done nothing but put us in a deeper hole. And he may beat Bush on the basketball court but Bush will kick his skinny ass any day of the week.

Terrell—Spoken like someone that doesn’t understand his History very well. While it is true that the Republicans of the 1800’s did change to become what would be known as Democrats there has also been another fundamental shift that has brought them back to their traditional roles. It all started with FDR’s radical socialist approach to governing, which took a recession to a depression. His policies were so bad that we are still feeling the effects today! Then came LBJ and one of the most disasterous presidencies in American History. His “Great Society” moved the Demorats further from the principles of the founding fathers. Then you have Jimmy Carter who, aside from Obama, may have been the least qualified person to ever lead a nation. Don’t think I forgot about Nixon taking America off the gold standard and allowing for the explosion of personal debt either. I haven’t! Nixon deserves as much of the blame as anyone else! Before you blow a gasket, yes I know Nixon came before Carter. Then came George W. Bush and his big government, debt spending self! Sure, the economy roared for seven consecutive years and he showed courage and conviction when he faced the world following 9/11. Bush also showed great character when the media was calling him stupid; considering his IQ is almost 30 entire points higher then Obama’s and the media calls Obama a genius makes me laugh. So, yes both Nixon and Bush took America on the wrong path, while great Presidents like Reagen always looked to keep government small, cut taxes for everyone and have shown strength to all peoples. Which brings us to Obama, the most under qualified, inept President in American History. Let’s run down his list of “accomplishments.”
Obama’s first act was to pass a failed $1.3 Trillion stimulous; once you factor in interest. He also voted for Bush’s failed $787 Billion stimulous. He is quoted as saying “America’s best days are behind her.” Went on a world apology tour. Insulted both Isreal and Poland. Bowed down to Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia, showing his true weakness and lack of character. Tripled the national debt with his first budget. Has socialized medicine, GM, Chrysler and the national Banking system. Is responsible for the single largest tax increase in American History. Pointed a finger at the previous administration for his own failures. And, in 66 days still has not done one thing about the Gulf Oil Spill but talk! He has proven himself to be the furthest away from what the founders of our country wanted.
When the Constitution was written, it was designed to eliminate a strong central government that could rule by fiat over the people and force laws that hindered the freedoms of the people. They were even kind enough to give us a list of the rights they valued. Freedom of speech, which Obama has hindered by attacking those that have opposed him. Remember his attack ads on Joe the Plumber? What about Sarah Palin; no I’m not a supporter. I could go on but it’s not worth it. There’s the fifth amendment, the right to keep and bare arms, which Obama has supported measures which infringe upon that right. Remember his support of the DC gun ban? His current support of the same type of measures in California and New York? In fact, you can look at almost all of the first 10 amendments and see Obama’s opposition to all or part of all of them. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that has heard the interview he gave on MSNBC where he said, “The problem with the Constitution is that it doesn’t provide for the transfer of wealth.” Again, the founding fathers never guaranteed people equality of outcome. They prmoised the equality of opportunity. One political party still holds to that principle, while the other deems it neccessary to belittle entire groups by saying that those groups are incapable of achieving without their help. Obama believes he is the smartest person in the room and therefore thinks he has to give everyone else things to show it. Unfortunately, for him, he appears to be an incompetent, blow hard that understands little about his position or how to manage it!

FalconsFan284,
Like I’ve said I don’t agree with everything that our current regime has done, but just like the others I have respected them through their terms. I never had nothing negative to say about our leaders until people begin to attack and fault our current leader. The problem with American history is that while our founding fathers promised the equality of opportunity that wasn’t given to all. This constitution you speak of was ratified when in 1789 and when was slavery abolished in 1865. Our found father’s views while they did what they thought were best were still tainted. I’m sure you remember the Jim Crowe Laws, and if the constitution was about providing equal opportunity then there would’ve been no need for the Brown vs. Board of education ruling in 1954 (165 years after the Constitution was ratified).Affirmative action was created because the idea of equal opportunity wasn’t being observed.
I know my history, my friend, the question is do you really know yours?

Terrell—-Obviously much better than you know yours! If you knew anything then you would know that Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Payne and others wanted to eliminate slavery while they were drafting the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Those gentlemen would be the founding fathers. As a matter of fact Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson would be the two men mostly responsible for writing those documents. It’s funny that you would say something critical about someone else when you made a glaring mistake in your History.
You said slavery was abolished in 1865 however that is not the case. In point of fact slavery was only abolished in the states that were considered part of the Confederacy in 1865. States, like Virginia which still had slavery on the books until 2001, and were part of the Union Army were still allowed to have slaves. Granted, most of those states hadn’t practiced slavery and therefore the practice died away but it’s still a grotesque error on your part.
Affirmative action was created as a way for Democrats to tell minorities that they were “helping” them. Point of fact, several minorities had been able to succeed long before affirmative action. Case in point, the Jews. Jews were used as slaves in Europe and Africa and served as indentured servants in the new world. Yet, without the government helping them, they created businesses that depended on fellow Jews in order to succeed. Funny enough, it worked and worked well!
Here’s a good rule of thumb, if some government official is telling you they are doing something for your own good they are probably only looking out for themselves. Did you ever wonder why abortion clinics, social service divisions and homeless shelters are typically closer to minority centers within a community? All one would have to do is listen to Nancy Pelosi speak for five minutes to know what she thinks. She is on record as saying that abortion clinics should be put closer to areas with “those people” when pressed about the issue in a healthcare debate. All you need to do is remove your blinders and see who is really responsible in thjis country and why Obama is complicate with it. He’s done rather well while not having to work for anything. His education was given to him, his presidency was given to him(thanks to a biased media that did not ask him one single hard question) and now you are giving him a free pass of the Oil Spill and his many, many failings while in office.

Mr. Miller——You want me to kill myself? Thanks for proving you have an open mind! Someone is saying something bad about Obama so you suggest suicide? Are you insane? Then you follow it up with, Obama’s doing all he can do right now.” Now, if that were true, then he would be the most pathetic political figure in all of human History!!!!
Obama is doing nothing! Never did I say that I wanted Bush still in ofice either. Has your class not gotten to reading comprehension yet? Obama has taken three vacation in the last 66 days, shot down 13 countries willing to help clean up the spill, nationalized medicine, banks, auto manufacturers and the media! But he has not produced one plan or even started formulating a plan for dealing with the crisis in the Gulf. Wake up!!!!!
You should be ashamed for letting your ignorance to show so plainly. Better for you to keep your mouth shut and let people think you’re an idiot then write something, as you have done, and prove it!
