Falcons owner Arthur Blank welcomes safety William Moore to last season's mini-camp, May 8, 2009. (CURTIS COMPTON/AJC).
Safety William Moore took part in the first day of organized team activities on Tuesday, according to a team spokesperson.
The first session was closed to the media.
Moore was held out of the team’s mandatory minicamp earlier this month with a pectoral injury.
Moore, a second round pick in the 2009 draft, played sparingly last season as he suffered from knee and hamstring injuries that required surgery and forced him to the injured reserve list.
Running back Jerious Norwood (hip) and wide receiver Ryan Wolfe (injury unknown) also returned to practice.
Wide receiver Harry Douglas (knee), cornerback Brian Williams, wide receiver Kerry Meier (hamstring), defensive tackles Peria Jerry (knee) and Jonathan Babineaux (shoulder) did not practice.

The throwbacks are only good because we see them every now and then. They aren’t like the Chargers’ throwbacks. I’m happy just seeing them once or twice a year.

I hope Moore is back at 100%. I think he will be more of a playmaker than Coleman. Do not get me wrong. Coleman is solid, but does not ever seem to make any big plays that can determine the outcome of games. I think Moore will not be ready to take over at the start of the season, but if he does not beat of Coleman by Week 12, then we may have a problem. Coleman would then be a valuable swing saftey to backup both Moore and DeCoud. And that is a great tandem for any cover 3 packages. DOL, when is Coleman’s contract up?

Good to hear that Moore and Norwood are back on the field. Hopefully we’ll see some of the others come back really soon with little to no complications.
DOL, has there been any chatter about Trey Lewis? He started off looking promising as a rookie and then the knee injury happened…twice. I know it takes 2 years for a big D lineman to get back but I’m curious to know if he even has a shot as a 5th DT. We already know that Babs, Jerry, Peters, and Walker are probably penciled in right now. How many DTs did we carry last year?

I still wonder would we use Moore like the Cards use Adrian Wilson …. As a SS (mainly) but on Nickle plays… They line Wilson up as a coverage LB.

That YouTube video on Douglas was a stark reminder of just how much the Falcons missed him and need another separation playmaker. All of these guys who’ve been banged up (with the exception of Wolfe who I don’t know much about) could potentially step up and help take this team to the next level. If most or all of them do so this year and other key players don’t go down this will be a team to be reckoned with. I’m excited about have a couple of Missouri boys toughening up the D.

Exactly how healthy is Peria Jerry? He looked good in the game he played. But was he not injury prone in college? What kind of depth do we have at that position? For some reason I am worried that he will never be able to play at the pro level and will be plagued with injuries his entire carrier. Hopefully I just have a bad feeling and he will prove me wrong. Unless you’re a fan of that 1980 team (Bartkowski/William Andrews/Lynn Cain/Wallace Francis/Alfred Jenkins… I still love that team… remember when they were on the cover of ‘Sport’ magazine as the “Next NFL Dynasty”…??), those throwback unis don’t really conjure up alot of great memories. Keep the new logo and black helmet, but dial back the jerseys a little bit… get rid of all of the silly shoulder stripes and stick with a simple color scheme. Or… go out and win a damn Super Bowl and, suddenly, the uniforms will be just fine (and flying off the shelves…).

Change is indeed good, and ever since Mr. Blank took over, the product on the field has been much more competitive than the previous ones.

Normally I am a very optimistic blogger, however, Peria Jerry was injury prone in college, so he isn’t likely to become a consistenly healthy player, like Jesse Tuggle was, especially after having a major surgery to start his career. Also he is actually older than Jamaal Anderson, I like JA98 at DT anyway. Jerry is a bust, and will always be because of his injury history. TD made a mistake in taking him, instead of Michael Oher. However, TD has been great choosing players, just not in that case.

Im glad the Oganization allowed William Moore to heal, they shut him down last year, and that was a wise choice. He should be able to provide solid depth behind Coleman. He isn’t a bust like Jerry, as he still has a chance to be a solid contributor. I hope the team limits his snaps, because over playing him may result in a drop in production as we have seen from Jerrious Norwood.

I can’t wait to see our whole team healthy. I think Moore, Jerry, and Douglass will make a huge impact on the team if we’re healthy. We have a favorable schedule. This could be the year we take it to the big game. With better defensive coverage, Abraham, and the Beer Man we’ll be a much better team. I really can’t wait to see our new Lights Out Spoon come in the game and knock the snot out of Deangelo Williams and Reggie Bush coming out the backfeild.

Great blog, DOL! I’m glad that Dimitroff made defense a high priority in the draft and picked up some quality depth to compensate for what may be the loss of injured starters. After having the 4th hardest schedule to (now) the 20th, there’s reason to believe that this team can go 12-4 when the smoke dust settles. In fact, if it weren’t for a few missed field goals and a droppped td pass in NY, we COULD’VE went 11-5/12-4 last yr. ( & that’s WITHOUT Peria & a host of other injured players ) Whoever starts and plays for us will be WELL COACHED, and THAT’S gonna be the key to success for us this yr. If Peria can’t play at a high level, ( and I hope he can ) this coa hing staff will put somebody in that can. Period.

Will someone please tell me what Carolina has done to make you anyone feel they’re going to be so much improved that they will be able to challenge us? Offensively, their QB is inexperienced and has thrown an average of 62.5 passes per yr over his 4yr career. We’re somehow expected to believe their 27th ranked passing OFF is somehow going to drastically improve with an inexperienced QB, and without making a single receiver change, or change to an OL that gave up 33 sacks?
GIVE ME A BREAK.
Their rushing DEF was one of the NFL’s worst, and they’ve lost JPeppers, their best DL, and their passing OFF was also one of the NFL’s worst. Peppers will be replaced by DE EBrown, who had a whopping 22 total tackles and 2.5 sacks last yr. Their DT’s combined for 23 total tackles and 2 sacks last yr. How is a DEF that registered only 31 sacks last yr going to improve their pass rush and pass DEF by replacing their top DL, who had over one third of their sacks, with a far less talented DE who had only 2.5 sacks?
We’ll be upgraded at CB(DRobinson/DFranks), OLB(SWeatherspoon), safety(WMoore), DT(PJerry/CPeters), WR(Meir/Douglas), RB(MTurner/JNorwood) and OL(HDahl/Baker). Even with our injuries last yr, we managed to finish ahead of Carolina with a winning record. How in the hell can they lose talent and we gain talent, yet they are somehow suppose to be as good or better than us?

ATLJBO_ Great Video on H D!!!!!! he was looking to be a beast of a 3rd pick! I truly hope/PRAY that he as the same EXPLOSIVENESS, which was what made him special, this year and going forward! That was the one thing missing from our off last year. Besides M. Turner not showing up in shape. Those end rounds HD does really keep the D on their hills.
Ken Strickland – I am with you. Not sure why so many are thinking Carolina is giong to be so good. They will still beable to run the ball very well & maybe one of their QB’s step up? But their D looks to be lacking this year, as the owner seams to be bracing for a lock out. (Which is not good for his fans) or for FANS OF THE NFL!!!!!!
Dear NFL
Please learn from the mistakes that MLB made. They still can not sell out playoff games much less reg. season games. They (MLB) are falling farther and farther behind. If we get jerry, hd, and moore back we are a beast of a team. I watched the falcons bears game last night and coleman is not bad at all. He is not gonna get INTs but to come down in the box and make plays that is what you want your SS to do. Be careful what you wish for.

I hope he isn’t a bust, but he will not be a productive player for us this season. When he was playing, he was poor against the run, and I don’t recall him causing any pressure on QBs. Hamp I agree, Coleman is solid, and Moore will provide good depth behind him. Quality depth is what wins over the long haul as player will get nicked up from the moment they start hitting in training camp. The NFL isn’t a contact sport, IT IS A COLLISION SPORT. After the 1st day of training camp there is only one group of players who aren’t hurting….the QBs.
Ken Strickland

ATL_FAN_FOR_LIFE-Assuming one of their QB’s manages to do something neither has managed to do throughout their careers, exactly what will they have to work with. The Panthers are still a one dimensional rushing OFF, and a very limited passing OFF which is still heavily dependent on one player, WR SSmith. Their DEF will be extremely lucky if their DE’s combined manage to match the 42 TTackles’s, 10.5 Sacks, 5 FFumbles, 1 Block, 5 PDefended, 2 INT’s and 1 TD that DE JPeppers had last yr. He registered 10 more total tackles than both their DT’s combined.
And keep in mind we’re not talking about a bunch of rookies or 2nd yr players that you would expect to improve. Even their pass DEF, which was very solid last yr, will definitely suffer with the loss of their most prolific pass rusher, who was also one of their better pass defenders.
Even the Saints will be in for a rude awakening this up coming season. They rode their play making DEF, not their OFF, the the SB. And their play making DEF won’t be able to duplicate last yrs feat, because there’s no way anyone can expect players like DE WSmith, safety RHarper, and MLB JVilma to duplicate their career, or near career yrs. And who is going to replace what safety DSharper did last yr. Even if he’s resigned, he’s not going to duplicate last yrs career yrs overall production.
We’ll be a much better team just by getting healthy. Add the depth, athleticism and upgrades to our previous areas of weakness, and you have a much stronger team, one the Saints struggled to defeat both times, even with our injuries.

Ken: Your falcants need to be a better team than last year just to stay the same distance behind the Saints that you were last year. The Saints are going to have a better defense than last year. By the way, just for your information, the falcants were the only team in the NFC South that they beat twice last year, and it wasn’t much of a struggle either time. Think about that, the only team the Saints beat twice last year was Atlanta.

SEENTHISB4-Your AINTS will suffer the same fate most SB winners and participants have sufferedthe following season, and for the same reason. Most SB teams ride a wave of emotion, absence of key injuries, career performances, luck and the element of surprise to the Superbowl. There’s no way all, or even most, of those elements will present themselves to the AINTS in consecutive yrs.
Teams will be gunning and scheming for them next yr, and the AINTS ain’t strong enough defensively to withstand the pressure. When you defeated a Falcon team that was missing its LT, RG, Pro Bowl QB, RB, both CB’s, DT and #1 backup RB, by 3 pts, trust me KATRINA BRAIN, you struggled. And please tell me what moves have been make by the AINTS that will make them so much better.
