The Falcons released tight end Leroy Banks on Thursday.

Banks, who played at Southern Mississippi, was a college free agent signee. He participated in the team’s minicamp last weekend.

Banks’ release leaves the Falcons with five tight ends on the roster including Tony Gonzalez, Justin Peelle, Keith Zinger, Michael Palmer and Colin Peek.

Palmer and Peek were also signed as college free agents.

Banks, 6-foot-3 and 243 pounds, had 29 catches for 375 yards and three touchdowns for the Golden Eagles last season.

Not a surprise, Palmer and Peek must be the favorites to break into the falcons roster

Robertussen — Nice products. They will keep three on the roster and possibly one on the practice squad.

I wouldn’t rule Zinger out quite yet. He looked impressive in training camp last summer and moved from # 5 on the depth chart up to making the roster at # 3.

If he falters, he’s in jeopardy. But if he continues his development and makes the catches over the middle like he did last summer, he’ll have a good shot at taking the # 2 spot from Peelle.

They should add Chauncey Hall, Americus Georgia native. Former basketball player that aspire to be a TE. He’s 6′4.5″, 37″ arms, runs the forty 4.48 to 4.51 consistently. He is 245 lbs, 84″ reach. His hands measure 10 1/4″, He lifted 225 lbs 26 last week. He lift 225 lbs 28 times during his pro day. For what ever reason, his information did not get turn into the league.

truth — I feel ya. THAT IS FUNNY!!! (But you all should have known that I can hold back the kind of heavy news you were thinking about. If that was going down, I would have had to splash it right on the spot. Sorry you don’t feel a one-on-one with the sackmaster John Abraham is Heavy stuff.)

Falcon TE’s- blocking and receiving skills are necessary to compliment the offensive scheme, don’t know if Peele or Zinger can match the two rookies with their potential and the opportunity to learn under Tony G.

Ray Czar…can you say man crush. Really Ray, he should hook on with a semi-pro league team and try and get noticed. If Hall has never played football, he has no chance of getting signed. Have you also noticed, teams are shying away from workout warriors?

Wouldnt be concern with TE if Gonzalez decides not to return after 2010 I am pretty sure the Falcons will either go after Antonio Gates or Kellen Winslow who will be UFA in 2011

Seems like we have Tony G at the moment and then 4 guys who are fairly similar in style who can contribute as a 3rd or 4th option with good hands.
