Flowery Branch – In a stunning upset, there were three mild skirmishes during the Falcons recently completed minicamp and right guard Harvey Dahl wasn’t in the middle of any of them.
Also, Dahl, who was voted as the league’s 8th dirtiest player in a Sports Illustrated poll of 300 players, has clipped off
He now looks like Deacon Dahl from church and not an ex-biker looking for a bar to clear out.
We had to find out if Dahl was mellowing or just trying to fool the opposition.
Here’s a Q&A he did with AJC during the minicamp:
Q: When did you get that haircut?
A: Just a little bit ago. Just a couple of weeks ago.
Q: What’s been your focus in the offseason after getting your ankle taken care of?
A: Yeah, I had to get a little surgery. Nothing serious. I got some small things taken care of and then it was just a matter of rehab and getting stronger to make sure that I’m healthy to go through the season.
Q: How tough was it down the final stretch of last season when you were not able to play?
A: It was real tough because I’m really competitive. It’s just hard not being able
to go out there with the team. It was really tough for me. I’m just working extra hard to make sure that I’m healthy so that it won’t happen again. I just want to compete all season long.
Q: What was your focus in the minicamp?
A: Just trying to get better. We had to get our new guys in here and help them learn the offense. We’re just coming together more as a team. We’ve been together, a lot of us, for awhile now. We know all of the plays. We just have to tweak some things. It’s kind of like fine tuning everything and getting ready to go.
Q: How comforting was it getting your contract situation taken care of this offseason?
A: We got that out of the way. Now, I can just focus on the season, play hard, compete and try to win as many games as we can.
Q: The running game carried you all to the playoffs in 2008. What will be the key to getting it back on track in 2010?
A: Just the little things like what we are doing out there (in minicamp). We know all of the plays. We know all of the defenses we face. It’s just a matter of getting it down and executing.
