FLOWERY BRANCH – Running back Jerious Norwood and defensive tackle Thomas Johnson suffered minor injuries and were held out of the afternoon practice on Friday.
“They will be re-evaluated in the morning,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “There was a little soreness and we wanted to keep them out of practice.”
The Falcons were also monitoring the practices of some of the older players.
Center Todd McClure and linebacker Mike Peterson practiced in the morning and had the afternoon practice offe.
Tight ends Tony Gonzalez and Justin Peelle had the morning practice off.
PEEK AND PALMER SHOW: Free agent tight ends Colin Peek and Michael Palmer both made some nice catches.
Peek, who started his career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Alabama, had a one-handed catch that drew some praise. Palmer, of Parkview High and Clemson, made several nice catches.
“It’s very difficult to evaluate and tight end is one of the most difficult positions in our offense with all of the shifts and motions that we do,” Smith said. “I’m sure that their heads are swimming, but I saw a couple of nice catches by those guys today. A couple in the morning and one here in the afternoon. I thought that was a really great catch by Peek this morning.”
SEVEN ON SEVEN: The Falcons completed 13 of 17 passes during their afternoon seven-on-seven drill. There was one drop.
RYAN RUSTY: The Falcons quarteracks threw seven interceptions over two practices.
Ryan had five, Chris Redman threw one and John Parker Wilson threw one.
Wilson was intercepted to cornerback Dylan Walker, a tryout player from Arkansas State.
“I definitely feel a little bit rusty, but it really felt good to get out and start getting ready for 2010,” Ryan said.
