Atlanta Falcons tight ends coach Chris Scelfo offers some encouragement to defensive tackle # 95 Jonathan Babineaux as he warms up for the Saints at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009. (Curtis Compton,

Falcons safety William Moore suffered a minor pectoral injury and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux suffered a minor shoulder injury and will be held out of the team’s mandatory mini-camp which starts on Friday.

Moore was cleared late last week to take part in the team’s minicamp, but then suffered a injury while lifting weights.

Moore, who’s expected to compete for the starting strong safety position, is coming off a rookie season that was  marred by hamstring and knee injuries. He was a second round draft pick in 2009 and played in just two games before being placed on injured reserve.

Babineaux was arguably the team’s top defensive linemen last season. He had 58 tackles, six sacks, 13 tackles for losses and 10 quarterback hurries.

Both injuries are considered minor and the players are being held out of the five practices for precautionary reasons.

Hopefully the players can get all of this minor inury stuff out of the way before the actual season begins. Last year’s injuries crippled the team down the stretch and we can only hope that this year will be similar to the primarily “injury free” 2008 season.

I knew it the weary moans. I hate that but it seems a trend may be starting I hope not. How do you get a weight lifting injury just before mini camp. If you need to be going that hard now something is wrong. Get it together WILLIAM we need you. Coleman is not gonna give you the job and if you can’t get on the field you can’t take his job anyway.

Injured lifting weights? Has brainlessness swept through the Falcons weight room? You’ve got millions of dollars tied up in a player, you’ve got a whole crew of fitness experts with exercise physiology degrees supervising everything, and Moore injures himself lifting? He must have been doing something wrong, right? Who wasn’t paying attention here? Jeeze! Let’s get it together guys!

The way I see it, the coaches and some of the players should think outside the box more often.

Babs just needs to huff one and chill – he’s got until Game 5 to get ready, but this William Moore thing ain’t looking so hot. You should not be hurting your pec lifting weights at this stage of the game. I’m very afraid that him and J. Perry will suffer the same problem – an inability to stay on the field. That pretty much covers last years draft class.

Not completely Lord Dmitroff’s fault (though they both had injury histories coming out of college), but disturbing just the same……

I agree Smyrna Jacket need to go back to the late 70’s early 80’s uniforms with the grey pants and the red jersey with the black stripes on the sleeves…but keep the helmets that they have now. Probably have the best helmet/logo in all of the NFL

I'm Gumby, dammit!!

Don’t understand how Moore expects to get playing time, if he can’t practice. Then again, he already got paid. Maybe he just doesn’t care?!?

May 6th, 2010

I agree Dan those are probably the worst looking jersey’s look like a combination of the World Football League, USFL and the XFL….just need sparks on them and HEhateMe written on the back?
But agree love the new logo and helmets.

Talk about a new revenue stream – I agree about the jersey’s. I know the NFL has a rule on how many years needs to go by before you can get new jersey’s…I could have sworn we were going to wear alternative jersey’s this year for a game or two, but I could be wrong.

I hope this isn’t a trend for Moore. It isn’t looking good for him. I know the team has high hopes, but the dude needs to be on the field to make an impact.

I don’t see the big deal with Moore.

May 6th, 2010

My guess is they had planned to keep Moore out anyway as he seems fragile. And with Babs, I think they want to give a bunch of other guys a good lookover, as they already know what he can do. “Minor injury” is as good a reason as any.

Waynester — Nothing much on new training staff. Just figured they don’t mind reporting to the “Director of Performance” while the old staff probably didn’t care too much for the Falcons training setup.

D.Led, I repsect your opinion sir but injury prone is injury prone. i dont care if you scraped a kneww or dislocated Its still an injury. :)

You can stress “minor injury” all you want. Fact is, William Moore can’t get on the field. Until such time as he shows he can be a consistent participant (much less a consistent performer) he has to be labeled a bust.

All the talent in the world is wasted in the training room. There’s a reason he lasted until the second round.

Could’ve had Sean Smith…

May 6th, 2010

Moore hurt again jesus, some guys just can’t get it together. TD wasted a second rounder on this cat, and we really needed him to pan out with the way Coleman has played. Sure hope some of the newly acquired DB’s can come through for us cause Moore seems to be a guy who just CAN’T stay healthy. NFL players who are always hurt usually get cut sooner rather than later. Peters can earn Bab’s spot thankfully but Moore is blowing his shot at being a starter fast!

I predict William Moore will never take another snap on the field with the Falcons (did he take even one in a regular season game in 2009?). He may not take another snap on the practice field in training camp, although I’m not willing to go quite that far. It wouldn’t surprise me if he never takes another snap, even in practice.
