Corey Peters was a three-year starter for the Kentucky Wildcats.
NAME: COREY PETERS, Age 21.
POSITION: Defensive tackle
SCHOOL: Kentucky (Louisville Central High)
HT, WT: 6-foot-3, 300-pounds.
DRAFTED: Third round, (83 overall)
Q: When did you visit the Falcons?
A: “When I visited the Falcons it was the last possible date. Last Thursday was the cut off (for visits) so it was like Wednesday or Tuesday. They did not come up to Kentucky to work me out, but we’ve been in contact. I felt like they were extremely interested. I’m so excited.”
Q: Who’s your agent?
A: “My agent’s name is Greg Linton.”
Q: What’s your max on lifting 225 pounds?
A: “I did it 26 times on my pro day.”
Q: How do you see yourself fitting into the Falcons defense?
A: “I’m extremely comfortable playing in the 4-3. Here at Kentucky we play the 4-3 and we played some three-technique as well as some shaded nose. I’m extremely comfortable. Fifty percent of the time we were using three-technique and fifty percent we were over the nose. I’m just extremely comfortable and looking forward to working my way into the starting rotation and getting on the field.”
Q: What are some of things that you would identify as your strengths and some of the things you need to work on?
A: “I think I’m really a heady player. I’m really focused during the week. I prepare myself well. I know my opponent’s weaknesses and I think I do a good job taking advantage of that. I still have some things that I need to work on. I need to work on my strength and conditioning a little bit. Those are the two major things that I feel like I can improve on. Of course, my technique could always be better. I’m just looking forward to learning from some established coaches and having an opportunity to get better.”
Q: What do you think you showed the Falcons to move up on the board and take you? There were a lot of projections that had you going much later than the third round?
A: “I saw some of the projections. On my visits, I visited four different teams, and I asked all of the coaches where they thought I would go. They were much higher than the projections. I wasn’t paying too much attention to that. But I do appreciate the Falcons for believing in me and thinking I can come in and do everything that they want me to do. I’m looking forward to proving them right.”
Q: Who were the other teams?
A: “I also visited the Titans, the Ravens and the Jets.”
