Tarleton State's Garrett Lindholm kicked a 64-yard field goal in college.
FLOWERY BRANCH – Tarleton State kicker Garrett Lindholm, who booted a 64-yarder in college, was signed by the Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent. In all, the team announced 15 signings.
Lindholm, who is 5-foot-7, 185 pounds, 64-yarder was the third longest in NCAA history. Here’s some youtube.com video on Lindholm.
Here’s a look at the rest of the players the Falcons signed:
Leroy Banks, TE, Southern Miss, 6-foot-3, 243-pounds: Started his career at Coahoma Junior College. He is from Memphis Whitehaven High.
Tim Buckley, QB, Alcorn State, 6-1, 185: Led the Braves vaunted attack last season.
Rafael Bush, S, S. C. State, 5-11, 195: He was highly productive for the Bulldogs, making 222 career tackles and scored three touchdowns as a senior. Was a former walk-on. Played both safety and cornerback in college. He made the S.C. State all decade team and is set to graduate with a degree in Sports Communications. He is from Williston, S.C.
Dominique Daniels, CB, Nicholls State, 6-2, 190: Had 66 career tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Gabe Derricks, S, San Diego, 6-3, 202: Started for four years at cornerback in college.
Justin Drescher, LS, Colorado, 6-1, 230: A four-year snapper for the Buffaloes.
Brandyn Harvey, WR, Villanova, 6-4, 205: Had 131 career receptions for 1,835 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season, he had 53 catches for 694 yards and five touchdowns.
Weston Johnson, LB, Wyoming, 6-3, 233: Played outside linebacker and was the team captain last season.
Dimitri Nance, RB, Arizona State, 5-9, 224: Parents were born in Liberia. Ran for more than 3,000 yards during one season in high school, but Big 12 schools turned their noses up at him. He had 341 carries for 3,173 yards and 41 touchdowns as a senior while playing in Texas 5Aclassification.
Michael Palmer, TE, Clemson, 6-5, 260: Started all 13 games last season, catching 43 passes for 507 yards and four touchdowns. Played at Parkview High.
Colin Peek, TE, Alabama: He was projected as a fifth or sixth round pick by Pro Football Weekly. Two foot injuries in college probably caused him to drop out of the draft.
Ryan Wolfe, WR, UNLV, 6-1, 205: Visited the Falcons during the pre-draft process. A highly productive receiver, who caught more passes than any receiver in the nation over the past four years with 283 career receptions.
Bear Woods, LB, Troy, 6-0, 245: He had to set out two games last season as part of his appeal to restore his redshirt status with the NCAA. Was the Troy’s leading tackler as a junior with 108.

Im guessing the Falcons have found something they really don’t like about Brandon Lang, is he not even on their free agent wish list? Peek would be a huge get and I think Michael Moore would be a good possesion receiver to look at with much better hands and speed than Mike Jenkins. Moore had a really good pro day and you can’t really knock the guy because he had Joe “No Accuracy” Cox and Matt “Air it Out” Stafford throwing to him. lol

It’s rare for these guys to make the team, and then get on the field. Do we really think that will happen with any of them? I take it they weren’t drafted for a reason. I’m always curious to see who they sign, but then they never end up playing. Priest Holmes and few others are the rare exception.

Will Ford all time MEAC rusher and is CJ Spiller’s twin, Tre Young WR, and Markee Hamlin CB all are in Orangeburg,SC. Here’s the one WR no one in the world is talking about-Kelton Tindal 6′3”WR Newberry College in South Carolina runs a 4.29 40. Check Mel Kiper’s book. Personally, I believe TD has just acquired two absolute steals. First, Ryan Wolfe- receiver out of UNLV- the guy is big, fast, runs great routes, and has unbelievable hands (yes that is a dig at Jenkins). If you don’t believe me check out the highlights. I didn’t know who he was so I did some checking up- he is going to be good. He slipped out of the draft because of a broken foot before his last college game- the only game he ever missed in college.

No kicker to challenge Bryant, and no QB to challenge JP Wilson, whom I don’t think is good enough to be an NFL backup. (I assume Buckley is being brought in at another position, based on all that I’ve read about him.)

Screw the “character guy” choices that the falcons seem stuck on. The Falcons let the best WR get by them because of their self imposed, ” good guy” mindset. I am a life long Falcon fan but I have tired of the Falcons mandate on not drafting players with questionable histories. This team will never reach the Super Bowl by acquiring players in this manner. No we dont need another MV type drama but to overlook a talent like Dez Bryant because of minor character flaws is stupid. These are kids who have made some errors in life. Get over it and approach the draft like other winning teams.

DOL…are the falcons not interested in Dace Richardson, if they are can they still sign him since he has a tryout with NYG? Also on the QB front…Greg Paulus QB from Syracuse U. who played Basketball at Duke would the falcons consider bringing him in to compete for the #3 spot. He showed many positives on a team that was lacking.

Can never have too many guys that lay the lumber, if nothing else this guy looks like an absolute hit stick on special teams. Here’s a suggestion for an undrafted free agent – Callahan Bright. Five star signee with FSU several years ago who didn’t qualify academically. Has taken a circuitous route to being considered for the draft. I can’t find him anywhere so I assume he wasn’t drafted. His high school vids show him throwing Eugene Monroe on his butt during a one on one. Definitely a project but could be a high risk – high reward scenario. DLed – will you let Falcons brass know?

His college coaches moved him to safety half way through his senior season to try and get him around the ball more because other teams wouldn’t throw to his side at corner. He’s a lock-down kind of guy.

Are we trying to build an elite NFL FOOTBALL team or a team of picnic basket givers at the Senior Citizens home for all academic “Good Boy” Scholars. The Falcons will never go to a Super Bowl drafting this way.
If we are so shell shocked over the Michael Vick situation, protect your team by putting behavior clauses in peoples contracts, don’t just pass over them in the draft picking lesser talent. You will never win like this. Philadelpha, Dallas, New England, Indy and a host of other winning tradition teams understand this and they consistently win…….The Falcons don’t and will never consistently win.
Passing over Dez Bryant was a joke and Dallas swooped in a got this Top 5 talent, once in a 5 to 10 year talent. Drafting guys in the 3rd round you could have gotten in the 6 or 7 round is ridiculus. Not drafting Everson Griffin (USC) was a joke when you know you needed another pass rusher from this draft.
I don’t understand what the hell TD was doing. He will quicky see the Tampa Bay Bucs and Carolina once again pass us to the way back to the Super Bowl real quickly with this type of drafting. TD is a joke!!! HORRIBLE DRAFT for Atlanta!!!

Here’s Gil Brandt’s report on NFL.Com on the kicker at North Texas Pro Day:
(Garrett) Lindholm (5-foot-7 5/8, 185 pounds, Tarleton State), who made a 64-yard field goal in a game last season (third longest in NCAA history), connected on three of four from 60 yards with a 10 MPH wind. Against the wind, his best kick made was from 42 yards. On kickoffs against the wind, Lindholm booted the ball 64, 65 and 60 yards with good hang time. He looked very good overall.
All together, eight North Texas players worked out, while Lindholm and eight others joined them. And the kicker was the star.

Overall, I feel good about where TD and Smith are taking the team. This draft will either prove that the media consensus on draft picks is usually right, or that TD really is going to make the Birds a perennial elite team. It will be fun to watch when camp opens.
The FA signings look like a lot of thought–not afterthought–went into them.

Still no DE? What happened to Brandon Lang? The pass rush needs improvement. Bierman and Sidbury are going to be good but we need Abraham’s successor as well as another option.

I just checked and DE Sharpe from Texas Tech has not signed anywhere that I could find. Why not give him a shot, unless there’s something we don’t know about him.
How does everyone feel about signing a RB that was a back-up like:
RB – Roy Upchurch from Alabama. He is 6′0″ and only 200lbs so he could stand to add some weight. He never had more that 58 rushing attempts in a season, but he averaged over 4.5 yards per carry the last 3 years and over 6 yards per carry the last 2 years. In games this year he averaged over 8 yards per carry against UF on 7 attempts and over 12 yards per carry against VTech on 7 attempts. He could have been the starting RB at a number of other schools, but he was at Alabama. Maybe he’s a stretch, but why not give him atleast a tryout.
Just a thought.

although highlights don’t tell the whole story, it’s looks like we picked up a few decent players. we have VERY little safety depth so bush might actually have a chance to make the team. he looked like a ballhawk which is VERY nice to see. (thanx for the link, falconfan) wolfe’s routes look good and his hands looks sure…he might be able to mentor michael jenkins. brandyn harvey had some nice returns and killer blocks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkW6JIR1QqA but i must say i’ve never seen highlights for a receiver that didn’t include catches.
there were a few other clips on youtube where he made some nice catches, tho.
on a slightly negative note though,…was excited about the lindholm until i saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FCkatz2_fg&feature=related
ouch, lots of misses considering there was no rush. please don’t be prater jr.

Way to go Ryan Wolfe! I hope that you make the team! You are far better than when you told me that you were just “O.K.” as a player. richardbg1962@yahoo.com
