Tarleton State's Garrett Lindholm kicked a 64-yard field goal in college.
FLOWERY BRANCH – Tarleton State kicker Garrett Lindholm, who booted a 64-yarder in college, was signed by the Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent. In all, the team announced 15 signings.
Lindholm, who is 5-foot-7, 185 pounds, 64-yarder was the third longest in NCAA history. Here’s some youtube.com video on Lindholm.
Here’s a look at the rest of the players the Falcons signed:
Leroy Banks, TE, Southern Miss, 6-foot-3, 243-pounds: Started his career at Coahoma Junior College. He is from Memphis Whitehaven High.
Tim Buckley, QB, Alcorn State, 6-1, 185: Led the Braves vaunted attack last season.
Rafael Bush, S, S. C. State, 5-11, 195: He was highly productive for the Bulldogs, making 222 career tackles and scored three touchdowns as a senior. Was a former walk-on. Played both safety and cornerback in college. He made the S.C. State all decade team and is set to graduate with a degree in Sports Communications. He is from Williston, S.C.
Dominique Daniels, CB, Nicholls State, 6-2, 190: Had 66 career tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Gabe Derricks, S, San Diego, 6-3, 202: Started for four years at cornerback in college.
Justin Drescher, LS, Colorado, 6-1, 230: A four-year snapper for the Buffaloes.
Brandyn Harvey, WR, Villanova, 6-4, 205: Had 131 career receptions for 1,835 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season, he had 53 catches for 694 yards and five touchdowns.
Weston Johnson, LB, Wyoming, 6-3, 233: Played outside linebacker and was the team captain last season.
Dimitri Nance, RB, Arizona State, 5-9, 224: Parents were born in Liberia. Ran for more than 3,000 yards during one season in high school, but Big 12 schools turned their noses up at him. He had 341 carries for 3,173 yards and 41 touchdowns as a senior while playing in Texas 5Aclassification.
Michael Palmer, TE, Clemson, 6-5, 260: Started all 13 games last season, catching 43 passes for 507 yards and four touchdowns. Played at Parkview High.
Colin Peek, TE, Alabama: He was projected as a fifth or sixth round pick by Pro Football Weekly. Two foot injuries in college probably caused him to drop out of the draft.
Ryan Wolfe, WR, UNLV, 6-1, 205: Visited the Falcons during the pre-draft process. A highly productive receiver, who caught more passes than any receiver in the nation over the past four years with 283 career receptions.
Bear Woods, LB, Troy, 6-0, 245: He had to set out two games last season as part of his appeal to restore his redshirt status with the NCAA. Was the Troy’s leading tackler as a junior with 108.

Hey DLed…. what is the deal with our kicking situation? I know Bryant holds the record for a 62 yrd Field Goal…. but he doesn’t seem to have much intrest from NFL teams and Hauschka was released by the Bucs…… do we have any plan?

That’s impressive video on Bush — imagine, a modern DB who actually tackles with perfect form! Interesting that he’s the same size, and from the same school, SC State, as one of the greatest strong safeties ever — Donnie Shell. Have to like what you see of this guy.

Domonique Foxworth?!! . . . LOL I’m through with you, buddy. I’ll be Ronnie Bradford, then and we’ll have this blog covered. Garrett Lindholm is looking like a steal. However, he will never compare to the greatest free agent discovery in the Rozelle-era: Jesse Tuggle. I’m still amazed that the Falcons organization has not pushed for Tuggle to be considered for the Hall of Fame. He has the credentials. The most-tackles stats defines his worth.

by the way, what grade are we giving the draft (and we should consider the undrafted free agents because their signings reflect what were the Falcons’ draft priorities)

Are we trying to build an elite NFL FOOTBALL team or a team of picnic basket givers at the Senior Citizens home for all academic “Good Boy” Scholars. The Falcons will never go to a Super Bowl drafting this way.
If we are so shell shocked over the Michael Vick situation, protect your team by putting behavior clauses in peoples contracts, don’t just pass over them in the draft picking lesser talent. You will never win like this. Philadelpha, Dallas, New England, Indy and a host of other winning tradition teams understand this and they consistently win…….The Falcons don’t and will never consistently win.
Passing over Dez Bryant was a joke and Dallas swooped in a got this Top 5 talent, once in a 5 to 10 year talent. Drafting guys in the 3rd round you could have gotten in the 6 or 7 round is ridiculus. Not drafting Everson Griffin (USC) was a joke when you know you needed another pass rusher from this draft.
I don’t understand what the hell TD was doing. He will quicky see the Tampa Bay Bucs and Carolina once again pass us to the way back to the Super Bowl real quickly with this type of drafting. TD is a joke!!! HORRIBLE DRAFT for Atlanta!!!

1. I MISS THE HAMMER AND LOVED WE GOT HIM TO THE SUPER BOWL.
2. AFTER VICK KILLED US AND THANK THE GOOD LORD WE GOT OUT OF THAT NO WORSE THAN WE DID ESP WITH PITRINOS PUNK ASS. IM ALL FOR THE FALCONS NEVER EVER EVER DRAFTING OR GETTING A FA WITH AND ? MARKS EVER. I MEAN WE SURE AS HELL AINT EVER WON WITH ANY OF THE ? MARKS. SO MIGHT AS WELL ATLEAST BE ROLE MODELS AND GIVE THAT A TRY. I COULD OF SPIT BULLETS WHEN WE DRAFTED A YANK QB THAT LOOKED LIKE A JV BAND MEMBER. THEN HE ENDS UP GETTING US OUT OF THAT JAM. SO WHATEVER MS AND TD THINK IM WITH YA.

I am not telling TD how to his job but he had plenty of chances to get a pass rusher i mean Everson Griffen fell in his lap also there was Ricky Sapp. He could have try to trade up to get Dunlap to.

I love the guy. He’s a luch pail kinda guy from a small Texas town who I think will fit in great with the high character guys we have on this team.
And to the poster upset about not drafting the WR……it wasn’t Vick that prejudiced the ATL against that type of player…..it was Meeangelo, TO, Ochoo Cinco and all those other clowns more interested in Prime Time than Game Time. I support the deciscion to draft substance over showtime!

Ryan I agree, Griffen fell till our last pick in the 3rd round, and we “can find any DE’s in our slot” Guy was projected by many in the first round.

Nobody is going after Tony Washington of Abilene Christian. I mean I know why he fell out of the draft, but has Sam Baker given us enough confidence that we won’t give this kid a shot.

Greg I have been watching that myself…he was given a 3rd to 4th round grade…he will definitely be an adequate back up. I was disappointed to see C Black was signed today…was hoping the Birds would go after him. It looks like all the undrafted DE’s have been scooped up now. It is time to hope that Abe comes backl to life and Sidbury steps up. Atleast our secondary should be good enough for us to put in some different blitz packages this year.

I noticed the same thing .Everything I’ve read actually leads me to believe he’s really a great kid who did a dumb thing. I wish we’d show some sense and practice what we preach about giving guys a chance to prove their change in behaviour. His coach has the highest regard for him having to live every day with the worst thing he ever did being widely known and rising above it. Plus he’s an awesome OT…

DOL, how does it work with undrafted free agents, is it first come first serve for teams or do players decide who they want to try out for? Im sure TD did his due dilligence, but we didn’t seem to look at any of the big names of undraftables. Not a big surprise considering we didn’t look at big names during the draft either but wondered.

That’s the essence of the Patriot Way–get what you can in the draft, but put most of your effort into thoroughly studying the majority of players who won’t go in the 7rd draft. All the Patriot protege’s want to find the next Welker or Brady to show how smart they are by finding diamonds at dirt prices….
