At least Franks sounds like a good pick…How did we get that pick from Wash via ST Louis, though?

Dominique Franks in the 5th sounds like a hell of a steal to me. Had to give up our sixth tho leaving us with only one pick left.

From NFL Draft Tracker:
Franks has been an outstanding secondary defender for the Sooners over the past two seasons after redshirting in 2006 and playing in sub packages in 2007. Franks has an excellent combination of size, strength and athleticism for the position. He doesn’t attack the run with consistency and should be more physical given his dimensions. Franks is an outspoken, confident defender that will challenge receivers at the line of scrimmage. Franks is a natural athlete with the speed, quickness and agility to contribute as a corner as well as having the size to move inside to the safety position. Franks is a better athlete than football player but has the potential to develop into an excellent NFL defender. Franks has excelled as a punt returner and should contribute at the next level in that capacity as well as on coverage units while honing his skills in the secondary.

See what I mean……..we chose Dominique Franks versus AOA!

135 — Falcons — CB Dominique Franks
The Falcons finally get a corner. I really like this kid out of Oklahoma. He’s a smooth athlete with natural change-of-direction skills, but only has average speed for a corner. My biggest concern is that he’s a defensive back who doesn’t trust his eyes, and because of that doesn’t make as many plays as he should. But he does have all the tools to be a corner in the NFL.

126 — Cowboys — Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
Back to back small-school kids, I love it. Ansah is one of my favorite developmental prospects in the draft from IUP. He’s a 6-1, 207 pound corner that run a sub-4.4 40 at the Ohio St. Pro Day. He may be raw, but he will provide immediate help on the Cowboys’ special teams. He had 7 return TDs and can be a gunner and a jammer as well. If he struggles on the corner, he’s big enough and physical enough to play free safety, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t the plan for the Cowboys.

Seattle just got Leon Washington from the Jets for a 5th and a 7th rounder, good move by the Seahawks. Washington has plenty left and is a dynamic returner.

nfldraftscout.com grades our picks. Spoon – B mimus, Peters – B plus, Johnson – B plus, Hawley – C minus. Where is our A’s.
I think TD has a stradgy. Maybe Richham is right. IQ more than talent and skill. We know the high IQ’s have some talent, and the skilled players have a little intelligence. Hopefully this will work out. I’m wishing them the best. I know Arthur has tried to do the right thing and I went thru all the Rankin Smith years, so for now I can only put my faith in TD. I have no athourity to do anything else.

Why not take a chance on Dorin Dickerson here? Elite speed but was forced to play tight end at Pit. Ran a 4.43 at the combine but lacks ideal height for a tight end at 6′2″, with that type of speed and athleticism, sounds like a perfect receiver for the falcons. Obviously, he can block because he played tight end

The Falcons moved up 15 spots in the fifth round to select Franks. They traded a fifth (149 overall) and sixth round (189) picks to the St. Louis Rams in the deal. The Rams used the 149th pick to select defensive end Hall Davis of Louisiana-Lafayette.

I really think the next two picks need to address playmakers on offense. TE and WR need to drafted with these next two picks. I say Dorin Dickerson at TE and Carlton Mitchell at WR, i know TD is big on stats so he should like Dickerson, but Mitchell doesnt have the greatest stats in the world. At 6′3″ 215 running a 4.4, looks like a decent gamble for possibly a nice receiver in the 6th round.

If i remember correctly, Meier just lost his brother in some sort of accident while camping. If this is true, welcome to the Falcons family, and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

drafted WR Kerry Meier. Here’s nfl.com’s take:
Meier is a converted quarterback that made the move to wide receiver his junior year to get on the field. He is a good route runner that knows how to use his size to shield defenders from the ball and shows good strength to the ball when in a crowd. He is a bit of a strider and can sneak by opponents by varying his speed and lulling them to sleep but lacks the top end speed to just run by people. He is a little stiff and struggles to sink his hips and come out of his breaks with a big burst. He lacks the speed and explosiveness to get a lot of yards after the catch. He has a chance as a possession receiver but is not the type teams are looking for as potential starters.
Nfl.com has 18 WR’s with higher ratings left on the board…

Da’reel — We know that the games are won in the trenches. It’s the trenchmen that we pick that we are all worried about, and picking them 1 or 2 rounds before they are projected. This draft is too important to me to just say pick who you want and I’ll be happy. So far, I’m not happy!

The picks are within the Falcons philosophy. Smart, CHARACTER players that give you effort not trouble, Griffen is talented but plays when he wants to…. when you are a professional and get paid to play a childs game… the effort needs to be there.

Had a need for a Young TE, could’ve had Hernadez in the third, (he lasted to the fourth), I thought Walter McFadden out of Auburn could,ve been a fifth round steal coming out of the SEC AS A CORNERBACK, and with a receiver friendly draft, we could’ve had a nice third receiver or a Chales Scott type Tailback out of LSU. Do you think we gave up to much for a TE that’s been in the League as long Gonlalez? That (a second round pick was steep) unless you know you needed him to get in the playoffs, and we didn’t. I feel also that Peters was a waste when it was very clear that E Griffin out of USC was available for a DE. O.k. Maybe Superbowl status is set for 2013, because this has no real Value, and I’m willing to bet Anybody long term that Eric Norwood( yes of S. Carolina is a better OLB than Weatherspoon, and Owens of UGA will now play four solid years with a chip on his shoulder because of his low draft status. We could’ve had them all. Last but not least LaGarette Blount could’ve been a 7th round steal, this kid knows he messed up, and now will play his heart out, and as much as our backfield stayed hurt last year, and year before last(Norwood) we really could’ve used this kid!

John Character doesn’t win games, football players do. Ya’ll need to stop judging these men away from the field. The Rothliesberger’s of the game get freed in the eye of the Judicial system and still get punished by a commissioner? Where is the justice for the guy with the bullseye on his back?
