FLOWERY BRANCH – We are inching closer to the start of the 2010 NFL draft.

Things are all quiet in the media room as everyone is reviewing all of their research materials. I brought along the latest issue of Smyrna Spartans Illustrated, just in case the Falcons reach into the fertile youth football ranks of Cobb

County.

Actually, that might happen on Friday if they land North Cobb’s Eric Norwood, the All-American from South Carolina.

There is a lot of pre-draft talk about Philadelphia trying to move up to get either Texas safety Earl Thomas or Georgia Tech defensive end Derrick Morgan.

The first draft held in prime time figures to present a lot of trading activity.

The Falcons could be players in the trading action. They clearly want to get into the second round. If their guy is gone by 15 or so, look for them to drop back in the draft and focus on Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon or TCU linebacker Daryl Washington.

Considering other choices were off the board, I am happy to get Weatherspoon…good enough.

Don’t want to turn this into a UGA vs GT spat but Jerome, GT has only put out 4 first rounders (including this year) in the past 15 years… UGA has put out 12 in the past 15 years. In fact, since PJ took over, he has put 2 first rounders out (the 2 this year) while UGA has also put 2 first rounders out in the same time frame. Next year, Georgia is going to put out 2 first rounders next year in A.J. Green and Clint Boling and possibly even Josh Davis if he can dominate opposite Boling. But don’t even try to compare the GT WR squad with UGA’s…There is no comparison what so ever and there never will be. 30-24 baby..

Anyway, this is a Falcons board. I like the pick, I surely wish Dallas would have called TD and traded so they could get Dez higher up than they did and Falcons could have selected Jerry Hughes. Weatherspoon and Hughes are equal in talent in my mind so it would have just been nice to have gotten some extra draft picks but we’ll be alright. The defense next year will be 10 times better with Jerry and Moore back. I get the idea that it’s basically like we are getting a first and second round pick in this years draft because those two are coming back so…Let’s just hope Moore is really healthy to help Robinson stop Brees’ passing attack and that Weatherspoon and Jerry can stop the Saints RB’ s from running all over the defense again.

Hope TD picks up some O-Line help or search for a TE to learn under Tony in the later rounds.

I’m sorry, but I can’t tell what the heck is on that plate!?!?!? Are those greens? Fruit salad? I see BBQ sauce, but what’s under then? Look, work a little harder on the captions. A picture is not always worth a thousand words…

UGA fans can rationalize and downplay it all you want…

GT had 2 first round picks and will have 2 second round picks.
UGA had NUNYA…

Have a nice day.

What’s all the chatter about, the only bulldogs that made headlines were the ones in trouble and suspended this season and none made it to the draft. So why the hell is everyone wasting time blogging on here about damn UGA instead of Falcons?

No doubt that the Falcons are targeting Witherspoon but will take Pouncy if he is not available. They need a DE but all of the 1st round talent will go by the 17th pick. Dez Bryant is the most talented player available but Falcons almost never draft any one controversial. I really don’t see Dez Bryant being a problem. He didn’t do anything illegal or immoral – just ticked off the NCAA who are a bunch of arrogant snots.

Mr. Ledbetter. I don’t have a rant, just a question, that maybe an insider like yourself could possibly answer. It’s a pretty simple one. We all know the Falcons had, I believe, seven draft picks in this year’s draft. But the New England Patriots, who won their division and made the play-offs last year — had thirteen draft picks in this year’s draft!! Not only that, it appears they have TWO number ones and TWO number twos next year! Who did they trade to get those kind of picks? God?? TD came from that system and we couldn’t even manage to get a single number two. I understand that particular pick went in the Gonzo trade — but that team is stocking up for Armagedden while we are outside digging for worms. Hope you can shed some light on the thought processes at work here. Many thanks for listening…
