NFL Draft Buzz: Falcons could trade down in the first

FLOWERY BRANCH – We are inching closer to the start of the 2010 NFL draft.

Things are all quiet in the media room as everyone is reviewing all of their research materials. I brought along the latest issue of Smyrna Spartans Illustrated, just in case the Falcons reach into the fertile youth football ranks of Cobb

County.

Actually, that might happen on Friday if they land North Cobb’s Eric Norwood, the All-American from South Carolina.

There is a lot of pre-draft talk about Philadelphia trying to move up to get either Texas safety Earl Thomas or Georgia Tech defensive end Derrick Morgan.

The first draft held in prime time figures to present a lot of trading activity.

The Falcons could be players in the trading action. They clearly want to get into the second round. If their guy is gone by 15 or so, look for them to drop back in the draft and focus on Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon or TCU linebacker Daryl Washington.

Let’s hope they drop back, and Spoon’s still there for us.

D. Ledbetter ,

What’s with this statement:

“If their guy is gone by 15 or so, look for them to drop back in the draft and focus on Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon or TCU linebacker Daryl Washington.”

You do know that was a bit of a give-away, don’t you?

;)

Big Ray — You’re thinking too much.

D. Ledbetter ,

Now since when is that a bad thing? I’m just occupying myself, and there are worse ways to do that…

You’re RIGHT, especially when you’re intelligent enough to think it all out!

D. Ledbetter ,

Do the same, and eat some good food for me! ;)

JSS ,

The best part about this time of year is that we have more “thinkers” and less riff raff. During the regular season, we get invaded by other teams’ fans and the usual idiocy. Cest la vie…

LOL…I knew it..they could NOT resist Eric Berry. Not even with Okung on the board. That’s how you know they don’t have a very good QB..

Now, what will the Browns do with Berry off the board?

DOL,

With Oakland Raiders taking McClain, do other teams before us who need linebackers consider getting Weatherspoon ?

Big Ray

Al Davis picks McClain?

Say goodbye to Weatherspoon. If the Broncos don’t nab him, the Giants will.

Josh — Yes, a run on LBs could send Spoon shooting up the charts.
Got another trade — San Diego and Miami for 12th pick.

Philly came up to get Earl Thomas, as we stated earlier in the evening.

With Denver moving out the Falcons way, Maurkice Pouncy is in play. They have to hope Pittsburgh doesn’t take him.

Well there goes Graham. Can’t say I’m happy about that, but there are still some great players left on the board.

Did anybody know Graham was that highly sought after? And you thought it was Pouncey who was going super high….

Big Ray

D. Led ,

I just can’t share your excitment about Pouncey. I’ll only be happy with that pick if we can find a way into the 2nd round. Otherwise…

Could it be Morgan? Tenn will take a DE — either Morgan or Pierre-Paul.

If Derrick Morgan gets past Tennessee, he will be playing for the hometown team this fall. Count on it.

Falcons need to trade this pick, too many good players left on the board

Morgan, Paul, Williams, Pouncey: Falcons get one of these guys.

Big Ray

April 22nd, 2010

I’m good with Morgan. Top player at his position, though not as good as Graham at this point. He has more upside, though.

RICHIE RICH

falcons will take Gresham…..Tony G’s eventual replacement.

Big Ray

But if Tennessee is smart, they take Morgan over Pierre-Paul.

Highly doubt Falcons will take Pierre-Paul. Far more potential than substance.

Spoon, Williams, or Morgan.

Tennessee can’t take them all. Not seeing OL figuring into this at this point, but you never know…

Steelers will go Iupati or Pouncey, probably Pouncey if I had to guess. He has more experience.

Dunwoody_joe

I’ll bet Morgan goes to Giants.
Falcons choose between Williams and Spoon or trade down
