BIRDLAND – Falcons owner Arthur Blank loves his mock drafts.
So I wanted to share one of the most informed Mock Drafts compiled. This is the annual Beat Writer’s Mock draft and it is the last one I look at before completing my final mock draft. (I like ESPN’s Kiper too because he is good at setting values for players base on his film review. However, his mock is usually off because he seems to set his mock according to his evaluations, not how the teams have the players on their respective boards.)
Here’s why this Mock is so special. The beat writers from around the country have been on the case since the end of the Super Bowl. They’ve been talking to their general managers, coaches and sources to gather information. They all have special insights to their teams and the best sense of how the teams are leaning at this late hour.
History will show that the Beat Writer’s Mock it’s usually one of the best pre-draft mock out there in the flooded mock universe.

1) I notice D. Ledbetter has not commented on this blog yet. I think he’s enjoying the hue and outcry he certainly was aiming to create.
2) Here’s a funny paradox. The assertion that we take a wide receiver in the first round results in the name of a guy with loads of potential, but hasn’t played in a while. No mention of Dez Bryant, who fits that category and is ranked higher. So if taking a receiver in the first round, which do you prefer: The one who hasn’t played in a while because he was injured, or the one who hasn’t played because he got in trouble for being someplace he wasn’t supposed to be? I prefer choice C…
3) Crabapplejoe , I’d take Shipley or Cooper in later rounds in a hot second. And that’s coming from a black guy….
4) If Dimitroff goes offense in round 1, he does so via Offensive Line, not wide receiver. Then again, what the hell do I know…

The Falcons will regret it if they do not go after Jerry Hughes. He was the anchor of that #1 ranked TCU Defense. The guy was a RB in highschool, is very athletic, and has a HUGE motor. He can flat out get after the QB. He will be a pro-bowl player in 2 or 3 years.

No..not related to D. Thomas unless he is giving away some of his signing bonus later. I posted in the BirdCage that if it was up to me I would trade out of the first round completely to stockpile picks in this deep draft. IF that is not possible and we have to pick at #19 then I would go D. Thomas unless someone like Spiller, Morgan, etc. had a tremendous fall. Whats funny is if someone in the “cage” had not asked about D. Thomas I would not have put in the extra research to come to my conclusions. I also know certain people are “UGA homers” from seeing there mocks in the cage which honestly I dont mind…my pops is a UGA alum. One last time I will simply express that D. Thomas represents a dimension to our offense that is sorely lacking and I believe will make a greater positive impact in winning games for the Falcons than a “merely solid” defensive pick. I do not believe we will select him but I would be happy if we did.

Man, DOL hollers Maurkice Pouncey every day, says he thinks the Falcons will take Spoon or Graham, then comes out and predicts Bay-Bay? That gets a ” Come on man!”

What the Falcons will do in the draft:
1st pick: Sean Weatherspoon (If not available, then: Brandon Graham, if not available then: Jermaine Gresham)
If we draft any of those guysor at least address those positions, and draft Andre Roberts and Vuna Tuihalamaka later, and maybe the K from Alabama, then we’re good!

It is your money. You give a guy 15-20 mill. guranteed and he is a special teamer back?
1. Spoon will not contibute on D for 1 to 2 years. Great special team player in 2010. What a bargain for the money. lol
2. Pouncey will not contribute in 2010. Can’t block better that Dahl or Clabo! watches from the sideline in 2010. What a bargain
3. Graham will not contribute in 2010. We already have Sidbury (drafted last year) and Biermann. Will sit and watch to see if the 2nd and 3rd year players we already drafted opposite of Abe can get the job done.
What a bragin.
It is your money- you are going to pay a guy that kind of first round money to sit and learn for 1 to 2 years? No.
Get a skilled player RB, or WR that can start in 2010 even if it is returning kicks. Who is going to share carries with Turner? Not Norwood he can’t stay healthy. Who is going to catch the ball besides White and Gonzo? Not Jenkins, not Finneran (3rd down player), not Weems he may not make it out of camp. Who?
Good thing it isn’t your money. You just wasted it.

Well said Jeff. I can’t understand the hate towards the young man, I watch some of the catches he made over his time with Tech he had some drops but man he had a hole lot of great routes from what I’ve seen. But I will be happy with whom so ever TD pick @19 or if he trade out for pic later..

Team needs? Whatever TD’s analysis is for the ATL, but best player at that moment in time.
Team needs? Pittsburgh? A QB with a zipper that stays shut in bars..
Team needs? TB, CAR & NO stand down. It is time for a new phoenix to rise from the progenitor Dirty Birds.

know that ga tech has 3 projected to go 1st rd today and even if they are gailys recruits they still are former ga tech football players so look for only 1 to go 1st rd if he is lucky and that is D Morgan..the rest will be 2nd -5th rounders. gailys recruits were going pro already but PJ offense hurt there chances of going higher..morgan is defense so he wasnt hurt by the high school offense. bey bey is way behind and so is dwyer..nesbitt might be drafted next year but after this year running the high school offense without any of gailys other recruits left, he might lucky to finish the season healthy enough to play football at all in the pros…poor guy…this will not help the future of ga tech getting top players on the offense side of the ball…

charles J ..all he ran was a fly route..he might of mixed in a 3 yd turnaround but other than that he didnt run hardly any routes other than the fly.
he could of used more coaching like calvin johnson received but PJ high school offense wouldnt allow it. he has all the talent and tools to be a great one though…should be a 2rounder
No! No! No! No to a WR with the first pick!!
