Birdland – The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are on notice.

The Los Angeles Laker Girls need to worry about their status, too.

The new 2010 Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders will be selected on Thursday at The View at King Plow and the goal is to put together the best professional cheer squad ever assembled.

The Falcons spared no expenses and brought in some heavy-hitters to help them pull this off.

Yours truly will serve as a judge and I’ll most definitely sport one of my bow ties and look very judge-like for the finalists. Also serving on the distinguished panel of judges will be Mr. Ryan Cameron (WVEE radio station V103),  Mr. Sam Crenshaw (WXIA-TV Channel 11), Mr. Anthony Amey (WSB-TV Channel 2) and Mr. Matt Chernoff (WCNN radio station 680 The Fan).

A total of 286 contestants performed at the Georgia World Congress Center on Sunday. Those fortunate enough to make the cut were invited to the finals.

The 2010 squad is “taking it to a whole new level with a new look, new uniforms, new logo and a brand new approach. The new look consists of searching for ladies who epitomize the New South – young, hip, glamorous, attractive and intelligent,” according to the team.

Those fortunate enough to make the squad will play a bigger role at the Georgia Dome this season. They will greet fans at gates as they enter the Dome, visit fans in the stands and suites and other activities as well.

While the final cheerleader auditions will not be open to the public, they will be covered live on atlantafalcons.com/live.

(Now the last time I blogged about the cheerleaders, you all lost your collective minds and we had to shut down the comment section. Let’s be on our best behavior today. I’ll be here to delete/babysit you all. Keep it clean.  –dol)

We need more pictures to get a more vivid understanding of the competitors.

This is some serious work. Really need to do a good job. Dave Archer was questioning my ability to identify cheerleading talent yesterday at Coach Smith’s golf outing.

ha-ha. DOL, you do well enough sneaking in photos under the guise of football. Might have to add basketball, too ….. as T. Gonzalez’ wife has some competition for the best-lookin’ sports wife when Steve Lavin (former ESPN college basketball analyst) took the St. Johns job.

Marcus — Does St. John’s play Georgia Tech next season. Georgia State? Kennesaw State? Mrs. Lavin may have to drop by for a visit to the football blog.

D Led. You wound me sir. I had a very funny and clean comment on your last cheerleader blog and I got deleted with all the other trashy posts. Because of that I am imposing a one blog penalty and will refuse to share my rapier wit.

I am sure you are heartbroken. Also, I will give you the entire contents of my lunch box if you will let me do the judge gig for you. AND I will let you drive my ‘92 Chevy Blazer for a week.
