Falcons hire Mark Collins as defensive assistant
Mark Collins (The University of Georgia)
The Falcons hired Mark Collins to serve a defensive assistant coach on Monday.
Collins has spent 11 years coaching in the college ranks.
He coached the safeties for Louisiana-Monroe last season after serving as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia in 2007.
Collins, a 1998 graduate of East Tennessee State, has had coaching stints at East Tennessee State, Michigan, Elon and Georgia Southern.
Collins was the defensive coordinator at Elon and worked under Falcons defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder while at Georgia Southern. He coaches the linebackers at Georgia Southern.
Collins was named as The Citadel’s defensive coordinator in February.
Collins will work closely with VanGorder, but will not be assigned a specific position group to coach.

Coach Van Gorder had a lot to clean up a Georgia Southern, and spent a lot of his time getting kids back to study halls and the like….He is doing now what he excels at, and that is coaching the defense….Of course, michaelgee, no one could do it as good as you could….Maybe they hire you next….

WELL WELL WELL!!! listening 2 most of you guys makes me wonder why the Falcons didnn’t hire one of you guys. most of you seem to think you have all of the answers. Collins is working his way up the ladder the hard way and that usually means moving around from school to school and better coaching job to the next. Give the guy a chance before you cut down.
