Cornerback Dunta Robinson signed a six-year contract with $22.5 million in guarantees with the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday.

Robinson, who was considered the top cornerback available in free agency, formerly played for the Houston Texans.

Robinson, a native of Athens, played in high school at Clarke Central before going on to star at the University of South Carolina.

Also, quarterback Chris Redman’s contract was a two-year deal,  worth $5.6 milion, with $2.5 million of it guaranteed.

Cornerback Brian Williams’ one-year contract is worth $1.6 million with a heavy roster bonus incentive as he’s battling back from knee surgery.

We need another WR maybe we go after Antonio Bryant we definately need another linebacker cause Mike Peterson was awsome early on but faded away later in the season and I only knew stephen Nicholas was on the team cause he is a 67 overall on madden which explains alot lol. Also we need O-line depth and D-line depth.

He is worth it. He is a former 10th pick with experience covering some of the leagues best wrs. Just think of how much we have to pay the 19th pick with no experience. I feel this was a deal.

Great move by TD……we finally got a shutdown corner and with grimes, williams, and owens….our pass defense will improve immensly. Hopefully William Moore and Peria Jerry can bounce back after injured rookie seasons and really make an impact. I agree though that we still need another pass rusher. Jamaal Anderson was a bust and we need to move out. If we dont go out and get an improvement at DE, im confident sidbury and biermann can make more of an impact with more playing time instead of anderson. Abraham doesnt have to many years left, I say we draft LB first round and if we dont pick up a DE in free agency then we pick one up in the 3rd or 4th. We only gave up 21 points a game last year, and with a healthy offense, and improved defense, we could be a real contender.

Despite the QB being out for 3 weeks and the toughest schedule in the NFL last year we still make playoffs if we had a field goal kicker. I hope we address this before anything further.

Robinson is NOT worth it. As an Atlantan transplanted to TX, I saw nearly every Texans game last year. Robinson is a good, small corner in his prime who will not get any better. Being franchised last year is more of an indication of the Texans using him up for one more year before cutting bait. He is also short, capable of getting beat, and capable of complaining. Closer to home, closer to more distractions with a lot more to spend on it. It is an improvement for the Falcons, but not the solution. That money could have been spent better elsewhere.

Boise St. Bronco, Wilson might be a superstar as well as any of the CB in the draft. The falcons know what they are getting with Robinson, a true number 1 CB. Name one who CB in the draft who is an NFL #1 CB right now.

Overpaid for Dunta! He is not a shutdown corner and hasn’t been the same since he got hurt in 2008. Looking at his coverage metrics and tackling stats last year he had one game above average for NFL CBs.

Hopefully TD and Smitty see something that a lot of other people around the NFL don’t but I’m not sure Dunta is $57 million better than Grimes or Owens at this point.

Here’s the thing, I don’t think you can take too much away from Dunta’s play last season because a number of factors affected his play. I think it was pretty clear he wasn’t happy in Houston. He was franchised last season, so to him, he was basically counting the days until he could leave. The same situation occured in Carolina with Julius Peppers. The Texans continuously claimed that Dunta was a core player that they were building around, yet they left him with no long-term deal. They never committed to the guy, so why would he commit his heart to playing for the Texans?

The Falcons are dumb as hell!!! 57 million for a zone coverage corner…lmao Oh well Mr Robinson get ready for the fickle atlanta fans the first time you get beat… You should have improved your pass rush and size in the middle… lmao you should be trying to make a trade and get noodle arm ice Brandon Marshall to team with Roddy instead of Mr Body catcher Mike jenkins… The Falcons are the laughing stock of the league again… 22 mil gaurenteed for Dunta Robinson… LMAO I would have taken Cromartie i dont give a damn how many children he has, he is a better and more proven corner than Robinson…lol

d.carter, I guess to you character means NOTHING, let me guess…you were an avid MV fan and advocate to keep him here as the QB, even after he screwed the fans/franchise with his selfish decisions and lack luster attitude/work ethic. Arthur Blank and Thomas Dimitroff are trying to build a winner here with GUYS of high CHARACTER.

Give me someone who has their sh*t straight in their personal life over someone like Cromartie who can’t seem to fathom the responsibility of fatherhood. Why…b/c it EVENTUALLY spills over onto the field!

Coming off an ACL repair the year before, last year Robinson was just an average CB. They must think he’ll be all the way back this year. I think they over-paid. We actually have more work to upgrading the two lines than we did at CB. I’m not at all sold on the “genius” tag that so many have put on Dimitroff. If he doesn’t do something to get us a pass rush from the front four this year, expect another average team/season.

D. Carter – I guess the “D” stands for dumba$$. First of all it’s not 57 mil it’s 22 mil. Guaranteed money is the only thing that matters. A player an be cut at any moment and all he’s owed is the guarantee. So let’s say Dunta is a slightly better than avg corner for the next 3 yrs and then the Falcons decided to cut him, they would only pay the guarantee which would work out to about 7 mil a yr, which is below the going rate for a shutdown corner and about right for a good one. If we took a corner in rd 1 this yr we would have paid about that much in guaranteed money and it would have been for an untested rookie that may not be worht a crap( see Jimmy Williams). This way we get a proven vet that is 27 and in his prime and has healed from his injury. You see “D” it’s better to have a bird in the hand…. Maybe you know the rest of that saying, or maybe not. Just stick to your fantasy league “D”, and playing madden on ps3. Leave the Falcons to the “grown folks”

Only a world class moron like d.carter would think the Falcons are the laughing stock of the NFL. Were you born yesterday? Yeah sure Michael Vick gave this franchise a black eye, but to me its pretty obvious you haven’t seen or heard what both Oakland and Washington have done over the last 2+ years. You sir, are dumb as hell.
