Jerious Norwood receives second round tender (updated)

Tyson Clabo (right) has received a first round tender from the Falcons.
Tyson Clabo (left) and Harvey Dahl (second from left) were undrafted free agents. Now they are first rounders — at least tender wise. (Curtis Compton/AJC).

The Falcons have started to make moves with their restricted free agents.

The team has made tender offers to right tackle Tyson Clabo, right guard Harvey Dahl, running back Jerious Norwood,  punter Michael Koenen and offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka, according to their representatives.

Also, running back Jason Snelling, who filled in admirably at fullback and halfback last season, received a tender offer from the team.

Snelling, who has three accrued years in the league, with the second round tender will receive a salary of $1.684 million or 110 percent  of his 2009 salary, whichever is greater.

Clabo and Dahl all have four accrued NFL seasons and received first round tenders. With the first round tender their salary for 2010 will be $2.521 million or 110 percent of their 2009 salary, whichever is greater.

Norwood, who has four accrued years in the league, with the second round tender will receive a salary of $1.759 million or 110 percent of his 2009 salary, whichever is greater.

Ojinnaka also has four accrued NFL seasons, but he received a fifth round tender, the round in which he was drafted. Under his tender, Ojinnaka will received a salary of $1.176 million or 110 percent of his 2009 salary, whichever is greater.

Koenen, who has five accrued NFL seasons, received a second round tender. With that tender, his salary will be $1.809 or 110 percent of his 2009 salary, whichever is greater.

The Falcons other restricted free agents are safety Jamaal Fudge, safety Charlie Peprah and safety Antoine Harris.

Those are the two I thought they would lock down first. Glad to see these offers made.

Harvey Dahl and Quinn Ojinnaka, out of that bunch, ought to be next priority. In addition, we can draft John Jerry and, maybe, find a tackle to put some heat on Sam Baker. Good move, TD.

Hey, who is part of the Draft Advisory Committee that advises Juniors and Senior on their likely draft status???? It seems everyone gets a 1st to 3rd round grade….I mean, there are only 32 picks per round, LOL.

@Willy I’ll gladly give you the “first” title if you want it sir.lol Seriously, it’s not a huge deal. :) (You’re funny though. I like your sense of humor. Gotta give credit where it’s due.lol) Yeah, I wouldn’t want to see Snelling leave either. Kind of like him over Norwood at this point….especially in terms of durability. I feel if we’re really a POWER running team, we need Bruiser Jr. more than a scat back. ( I know that’s WIDE open for debate but just how I feel.)

@falcon21 Hope Snelling is next too. What are your thoughts on Norwood?

SirReal, I would like to keep Norwood. If he could only stay healthy and MM learns how to use him, Norwood could be a weapon for the Falcons.

[...] The AJC reports that Falcons tackle Tyson Clabo and punter Michael Koenen have received their designated tenders as restricted free agents. So if teams were to get Dahl, Norwood, or Clabo, they would have to give us a first round pick. Either way, the falcons get a good deal.

it’s good to see the Falcons taking care of their core players. They are creating the blueprint for “the falcon way”. Just like in New England with their “patriot” way.

D O Led, do you think any team in the league would really give up a 1st for any one of our players so taged? The Falcons will be abled to keep all five of these guys for around $10m total. I think in an upcapped year this is a very smart move on the part of Dimitroff.

Am I the only one out here who firmly believe that we should draft Mount Cody with the 19th pick?

D-led – the one part I don’t get is only tendering Koenen at the second round level. He had the franchise tag last year, which made his base salary $2.483 million.

Since the tender requires his new salary to be 110% of his old salary, he’ll be at $2.72 million this year. That’s the same salary he’d get with a first round tender under the same 110% rule.

What’s the scoop?

Halsey

That takes a RB out of the discussion in the Draft. Probably offensive line out of the discussion before at least the third round. It’ll be defense in the first round, with WR being a darkhorse possibility if the Falcons sign a few defensive free agents.

Agreeing with Florida Falcon……trying to keep the band together. Most of the successful franchises in every sport achieved their success by keeping the core group in tact. Dimitroff comes from an organization that benefited from that belief.

GHunt, you’re just not going to give up on the petition for Mount Cody, huh? Not only did we draft Peria Jerry last year (the ideal fit for our system), Mount Cody can’t breathe after playing two downs. He won’t go higher than 20 (I doubt if he goes in the first round). Its just not logical to pay a fat, twinkie-eating, kool-aid bleeding kid first round money, for playing just ten downs a game. If he’s around in the third round, maybe (big maybe).

I’d rather have snelling any day of the week over norwood. Snelling has done more in one season then norwood has done in 4. And ojinnaka, he’s worthless. Garrett Reynolds has already surpassed him. I just hope we get a first rounder for norwood, but thats highly unlikely. All the other moves are straight.

5 OT’s (4 projected as top 15 players, 1 mid twenties) are available, we should draft one of them. We get a BPA at a position that really needs upgrading.

Look for OLB, CB, and WR help after that.
