Who watched The Vick Project on BET?

Michael Vick’s reality show – “The Michael Vick Project” — aired Tuesday night on BET.

AJC columnist Mark Bradley blogged about how Vick attempted to explain the double life he led while with the Falcons.

Just curious, what did you think of the show?

All I could think of was that attorney Billy Martin, who reportedly received a $1 million retainer fee, basically had to counsel Vick into taking the guilty plea.

Also, Vick mentioned that they were 24 people ready to testify against him. Covering the trial, I knew the federal case was strong, but not that strong. If he’d taking the plea earlier in the case and came clean, he likely could have avoided jail time.

The AJC’s Rodney Ho also previewed the first part of the 10-part show.

The appears to be part of Vick’s plan to soften his road back to becoming a starter next season.

After covering the trial and becoming a quasi-dogfighting  expert, my inclination was to pass on the show because none of it had much to do with football.

UGA’s Owens lands invite to the NFL scouting combine

Last week at the Senior Bowl Georgia defensive tackle Jeff Owens wasn’t worried by the fact that he hadn’t been invited to the NFL scouting combine.

I asked him, “Have you been invited to the combine?”

“Not yet,” Owens said. “Just wait until after this week, though. I’ll have an invite.”

He wasn’t bragging, but was just confident in his abilities.

While the rest of the world was following Tim Tebow’s every move, Owens was out there grinding in the trenches.

He has a pro frame and was doing a good job of getting some penetration in the backfield.

So when the good folks over at National Football Scouting, Inc. and National Invitational Camp, Inc. released the official invite list on Monday, there was no reason to be surprised that Owens was on the list.

Owens heads up the Georgia contingent. He will be joined by fellow Bulldogs in defensive tackle Geno Atkins, safety Reshad Jones and linebacker Rennie Curran.

Also, four players from Georgia Tech were invited. The Yellow Jackets headed to Indianapolis are running back Jonathan Dwyer, defensive back Morgan Burnett, defensive linemen Derrick Morgan and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas were the invited Yellow Jackets.

Some of the other local players invited to the combine include Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry (Creekside High), Tennessee offensive lineman Chris Scott (Lovejoy), Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley (Hiram), Troy defensive end Brandon Lang (Tucker) and South Carolina linebacker Eric Norwood (North Cobb).

BUZZING ABOUT:  Dwyer will arrive in Indy with a lot of buzz. (couldn’t pass that one up!)

“The comment that I get from a lot of the NFL folks is that he’s a difficult kid to do because of the type of offense that he’s coming out of,” NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock

091205 - Tampa - GA Tech's Demaryius Thomas (8) tries to break away from Clemson's Crezdon Butler (18) in the first quarter during the ACC Championship game on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in Tampa, FL. (Johnny Crawford - jcrawford@ajc.com)

said. “But he’s a big strong kid with great straight line speed.”

Dwyer’s agility will be watched closely.

“The hard thing is how do you envision him out of that offense and seven yards back deep in the backfield or standing next to a quarterback in the shotgun,” Mayock said.

Teams want to see if Dwyer’s skill set, toughness and size can translate.

THOMAS INTRIGUING: Thomas will also arrive at the combine with some question marks. Teams want to see him run some routes.

They know he can go deep and that he attacks the ball in the air well.

“He reminds me a little bit of Hakeem Nicks coming out of North Carolina last year,” Mayock said. “He’s a good size kid. Probably not as fast as the elite wide receivers, but he’s a good football player. He’s probably a late first to (mid-second round pick).”

BURNETT COVETED, TOO: Burnett will have a chance to improve his draft status.

“The safety is an aggressive kid,” Mayock said. “Some times he’s overly aggressive. You can get to him with play-action a little bit. But he’s a physical kid. He has a good physical skill set. He’s probably a second or third round pick, somewhere in there.”

My question is how did TD see the game Saturday and still have time to be seen at the High Museum Sunday at noon? Well rounded guy for a GM.

I have seen quotes and interviews from TD and he seems to be a big proponent of the DVR. I bet it takes him an entire day to watch a single game. Man I bet it’s a treat to sit and watch a game with him though – imagine the conversation.

Interesting to see that 6 of the 8 GT/UGA players invited to the combine play on the defensive side of the ball. Interesting because IMO both defenses underachieved last season and as a result both DCs are gone from their respective schools. I guess it wasn’t a talent problem. Good luck to all the players at the combine and at the next level.

Of course he is going to ACT remorseful. It’s called television… it’s completely controlled, calculated and designed for a specific purpose… to improve his public image. $$$ is the root of it all.

Everybody that truly love Mike Vick!

THE MAN is coming to TV! And what we need to do as a community is come together to show our support and our solidarity and our love for the special human being that put this city on the map!

Let’s everybody put on your #7 jerseys Falcons or Eagles and let us all show all the haters that we all know and remember who the real face of football in this city is and remind Arthur Blank of all the people who remember what he did to the greatest athlete in the history of this whole state!

When we go out and about this week while showing our support for Mike by wearing our jersey let’s all do the following together to show we are united and that we are strong.

* When you go out to the mall to do your shopping walk as slow as you can so that all the haters will be stuck behind you and they will see that 7 IN THEIR FACE! They will remember who they REAL QUARTERBACK is!

* You go into one of them stores and start singing out loud about #7 while wearing your jersey or however you feel lead to do. There ain’t nobody going to take away mine or your right to free speech. Make all them haters know how you feel!

* If you go to the movies be sure to say your love for Mike loud and proud during the movie so all the haters won’t be able to enjoy the movie and will have to sit there and think about what this city lost.

* When you get out on the highway don’t use your turn signal when you make turns or change lanes so all the haters will be confused about where you going – You will be just like Mike do when he dodge line backers and won’t no body be able to guess where he will zig zag next.

* When you got out to get you some lunch back your ride into as many parking spaces as you can so all the ignorant haters won’t have nowhere good to park.

* After you have your lunch in your ride and throw your bones out the car window be sure to get to to arrange them so they spell out MV7 and so all the haters will see it and be forced to RECOGNIZE! when they walk by and see it.

Together we are strong! And we can send a message to EVERYBODY that MV THE MAN is back and he is to take care of business! Show all them sorry people that just want to hate on Mike for NO REASON whats up!

WE LOVE YOU MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Y’all:

I will be watching the Vick Project tonight. I am watching, like many others, to hear from Vicks’ mouth what motivated him to do such stupid things with his opportunity and life here in Atlanta. Yes, I am glad he is getting a second chance, but damn, I wish I had his first chance. It amazes me how someone who claims to come from a poor family and actually, after receiving millions of dollars and the public eye, to want to continue to act “ghetto”. I really want to hear his comments and what has changed him and how he has changed. Knowing that he is a good liar, I pray that since he has let all his negative hanger ons loose, that he truly speaks the truth from his heart, what the difference is from him then to what he claims to be now. I know the Vick Project is just that: a project. I only hope that at the end of that project a true repented, God fearing man is there who is willing and able to put the world on his shoulders and say: SEE THE GREAT AND RIGHTEOUS THINGS THAT GOD HAS DONE IN MY LIFE!! I OWE EVERYTHING TO GOD AND NO ONE ELSE. Know that would truly be a BLESSED VICK PROJECT. Anything less would be a loss of time and effort on his part and ours.

GO MIKE VICK. GIVE GOD THE GLORY.

Falcon Devil: Why do you think he will only ACT remorseful? Yes he is making money off all this but if you were in his shoes you will do the same thing. You need to give him a chance and let him clear the air. You don’t know what he is really thinking and neither do I so that is why i am going to watch. I think maybe you should watch too so you can make a better judgment on whether he is remorseful or not.

Watched the show….I really felt that he was contrite. I know people don’t like me on here, but i can’t seem to understand why certain people can’t stand to see someone redeem themself? What he did was horrible, and yes, I can’t understand how people could have the stomach to watch dogs fight to the death and kill them also.

People feel that those guys went overboard, but those of us that have at least some knowledge of dogfighting, the way the dogs were killed is at times a part of the dogfighting game, unfortunately. Some guys just shoot the dogs, but that’s the “humane” way to do it…..its all bad….whether you do that or did what Vick’s guys did. He’s paid the price….and for those of you that think he hasn’t, there something wrong with you. You can hate him, but he should be allowed to redeem himself…yet unfortunately, the majority of people that hate him are white people….lets just be honest here…there’s definitely a divide…no matter how much we say that race doesn’t matter. Damn people!!! Give the man a chance!! It would be different, even for me, if he would have got off like alot of celebrities, i wouldn’t support him either, even though 90% of people that don’t like what I say on these blogs, they say I support Vick because he’s black, and that’s BS. Hell, I supported McGwire….his crime was almost as bad as Vick’s was.

I told you people that Vick would shine again, and you laughed….he has to go out and do it, but he has the talent to make a comeback..to me he already has….especially as a person. The guy on the show with the shades and braids…he did look like an idiot. One thing that you guys were totally right about was the way he looked. You cannot be the only QB in the NFL to be black with braids….the stigma that that carries would be hard to carry I could imagine. Could be wrong, but I think this guy has done a 180….its not the same Vick that he was.

Why does the ajc continue to write about this low life loser? I like PETA’s response about this pond scum getting a tv show..“People who abuse animals don’t deserve to be rewarded. They shouldn’t be given multimillion-dollar contracts . . . or given the privilege of being a role model. We don’t believe Michael Vick understands the seriousness of his crime. I think he’s sorry he got caught, but only time will tell if he’s truly remorseful.”

Only BET would have a show on Vick….he is a disgrace to society.
The only time I’ll watch anything on him is when he goes back to prison for doing something else against the law.

Don’t give me this crap about he’s “paid his dues”, he’s an animal killer.
Those dogs didn’t get a second chance,
Vick also excelled in screwing over an entire city and it’s football team by his ADULT actions.
It’s only a matter of time before he’s back breaking the law and returning to prison where he belongs…right OJ Simpson ?

I can forgive someone like Donte Stallworth who killed someone in a auto accident. Generally a good person who made a terrible mistake in a split second of time.

Vick however is a career criminal who knowingly and willingly committed heinous crimes and enjoyed every minute of it. Add to the face that he repeatedly lied to everyone including people who were trying to help him.

Vick may of paid his dues to society and lost a lot of money but I personally don’t feel that he has the right to continue his career in the NFL. The exposure to children who look up to him can never be trusted.

I’d like to see Vick go back to Virginia Tech and get his degree. Marry the mother of his illegitimate children and get a honest hard working job away from the public eye. Yah,,,, that will happen.

Vick Supporter: I agree with you, alot of people on here who HATE Vick are most likely white. If you read this and your black and you hate vick then please correct me. Look all of you on here Hating vick are probably predominately Christian right? Well, the most important commandment in the Bible is love thy neighbor like you love yourself(Not exact quote). So everyone that is hating Vick are not following what Jesus Christ says. Also, doesnt Jesus forgive you when you do something wrong? Assuming your answer is yes, then what makes you better than Vick? Absolutely nothing, we should be forgiving and love him for trying to redeem himself. He is out making an effort and so far being a good citizen.

SCOTT-”it’s only a matter of time before he’s back breaking the law and returning to prison where he belongs…right OJ Simpson?” Really man? why is he being compared to OJ Simpson? OJ allegedly killed a HUMAN being! Vick Killed dogs that where bread to fight, got caught, paid his dues and now working on redemption. And also, why would you have a pessimistic view on vick, “Its only a matter of time before he breaks the law again,” a real good hearted person would wish good upon someone and NOT bad.

This is a Joke people, so much hate. All i have to say is ONLY God can Judge and until you are PERFECT like God then you can judge. Stop hating and start loving. Everybody NEEDS to start hoping for the best and NOT hoping for the worst. If he messes up again, God will handle it!

All in all i am a Falcon fan to the death but i am also a fan of redemption.

When is not liking someone as a football player hate? I’ve heard ALOT of Vick supporters say alot of things about Ryan and I didn’t pull the pulpit out and start preaching to them.

And VS if you think the Vick project is proof the Vickster is back your crazy. Last I heard he was still a 3rd string QB soon to be looking for a job. What gets me also is Blank gets slammed for what happened to Vick after the man gave him a 100 mill contract. Ried on the other hand hired Vick as trade bait and nothing is said about that.
