Keith Brooking is set to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Are you rooting for Brooking and the Cowboys?
UPDATE : Former Falcon Keith Brooking and the Cowboys lost to Minnesota Sunday in the NFL playoffs.
PLAYOFF CENTRAL — Former Falcon Keith Brooking has made the most of his move to Dallas.
He’s just eight quarters away from returning to the Super Bowl. To keep his hopes alive, he must help the Cowboys shut down the Vikings running game and silence that zany Minnesota crowd.
“We have pretty good experience facing a hostile crowd,” Brooking told reporters in Dallas this week. “The way you have to handle the situation is, obviously you can’t allow them to get the momentum going early in the game. You’ve got to go for their heart.
“If you can put a little doubt in their minds in the beginning, that can go a long way. We can’t allow the crowd to get into it.”
If the Vikings get the Metrodome rocking, they start incessantly pumping in that loud horn noise.
“We have to prevent that surge as much as we can at the beginning of the game, and be prepared if it doesn’t take place,” Brooking said. “We have to be prepared for everything. We obviously want to start fast and set the tone very early to take the crowd out of it as quickly as possible.”
From his days with the Falcons, Brooking knows about winning big a playoff game in the Metrodome. The Falcons beat the Vikings in dramatic fashion to earn the franchise’ only trip to the Super Bowl when Brooking was a rookie.
“That was, by far, the loudest environment, the most hostile environment I’ve ever played in,” Brooking said. “We didn’t (attack) them early. It was a battle. That’s what we have to prepare for, as well.
“Our intentions are to start very fast and to take them out of the game. But we’ve got to be ready for a 3½ hour battle and fight to the end.”
Brooking isn’t scared of facing Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre in the playoffs either. The Falcons handed Favre and the Packers their first playoff defeat at historic Lambeau Field, 27-7, on Jan. 4, 2003.
“To be 40, he avoids a lot of rush and a lot of havoc in the backfield,” Brooking said. “He has great savvy in the pocket. He’s not the type like (McNabb) who is going to take off with the ball. But he has just as much savvy in the pocket to avoid the rush and make plays in that way. He can still throw the rock.”
SUPER BOWL MEMORIES: Brooking remembers the Falcons win over the Vikings fondly.
“I got on the bus after the NFC Championship game in Minnesota, after Morten Andersen kicked the winning field goal to get us to the Super Bowl,” Brooking said. “I remember to this day. I sat down and we were on top of the world. I looked at Morten Andersen and said, `man, this is pretty cool.’ And he looks at me – a kicker – ‘Pretty cool? What are you talking about? Do you realize what we just did!’ ”
RIDDLE ME THIS: My neighbor, the big Georgia Tech fan, had some jokes for me this morning. (Tennessee fans, run for
cover!)
Ok, here’s the other one.
RANDOM TEXT: My friend Ivory Gene Cooper, who is from South Carolina, but lives in Washington, D.C., is somehow a Steelers’ fan. He obviously has too much time on his hands, you know, with the defending champs at home watching from their couches.
He sent this text, “Please support the GILBERT ARENAS LEGAL DEFENSE FUND. Free all political prisoners in D.C., Zimbabwe, Tibet, Iran East Timor and Indonesia. Steeler Nation!”
What?
The tryouts for next season's Cheer squad are right around the corner.

PLAYOFF PICKS: In the AFC, I’ve got Baltimore beating Indianapolis. The Colts are going to pay for not playing their starters over the final two games.
If you are in zone, you don’t take yourself out of the zone and then try to flip the switch back on. The “Football Gods” and Herm Edwards say, “You play to win the game!”
San Diego will beat the Jets. That passing attack is just too awesome.
In the NFC, going with Brooking and the Cowboys over the Vikings. Think Brett Favre will try to do too much and cost the Vikings the game.
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints should be able to put up 80 points on the Cardinals defense that Aaron Rodgers exposed last week.
ENJOY THE GAMES? ROOTING FOR BROOKING? ROOTING FOR FAVRE? GIVE US YOUR PICKS!!!

No way, I still have nightmares watching Brooking trash talking, jumping around like a silly girl and waving his arms more like a butterfly than a dirty bird in Dallas sideline. That negative image is more powerfull than his great carrer as a Falcon. I just root for Falcons, but if I have pick go Cards.

I hate Dallas and Minnesota. I’m rooting for the Cards. Plus, I believe they are peaking at the right time just like last year when we ran into them.
Minnesota has Favre who can throw a pick as sure as a td, and Romo could botch a hold on a PAT. I like the Cards to roll.
My SB pick is is: Cards vs. Chargers

I would never root for the Dallas Cowboys with or without Brookings. He has made very little impact for the Cowboys this year on the field. His hype of himself is a product of his own mind, definitely not mine or anyone else that knows anything at all about the LB position.
Not to mention the fact that Jerry Jones is a joke.

And, like others here, I would NEVER root for the Cowgirls. Even if they were playing the Jags. Explaination, as a Savannah Resident back in ‘95, the NFL and local TV tried to make Savannah, GEORGIA a Jacksonville market. The local CBS station recieved over 5K phone calls within 15 minutes and switched to the Falcons game. That is why I hate the Jags.

(ON MY HOME COMPUTER. IT IS FIXING MY LAPTOP. Thought I’d pass along this info from Commissioner Goodell’s interview on ESPN radio this morning. –DOL)
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was a guest on ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning (6-10 a.m. ET M-F) today at 8:43 a.m. ET.
Co-hosts Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg questioned Goodell about the effectiveness of the league’s “Rooney Rule,” requiring that minority candidates be interviewed when an NFL head coaching job is open, following Washington ’s interviewing secondary coach Jerry Gray prior to hiring Mike Shanahan.
The Mikes also asked Goodell if he is looking at ways to ensure teams play their starters at the end of the season, of the reaction to moving the Pro Bowl’s date and location, and about conversations regarding a new collective bargaining agreement with the players.
On teams resting starters in end-of-season games:
THE COMMISH: “We think its something that needs to be studied. The integrity of the game is the most important thing. We want to make sure the games all season long have meaning and are important to our fans and the best players are playing to win.”
On the “Rooney Rule” after signings of coaches Carroll in Seattle and Shanahan in Washington :
THE COMMISH: “I feel that the Rooney Rule was not only observed, but followed very sincerely by both of the clubs… I was very confident that Leslie Frazier believed he had a very good opportunity of that job as recently as last Saturday, and I’m convinced in speaking with that club that that’s the case. I think the ‘Rooney Rule’ has been terrific for the NFL and I think it’s been terrific for advancement of our personnel. We’ll continue to enforce it aggressively and I think it was done well by our clubs this year.
“I think a lot of people jump to conclusions, and I understand that because they didn’t have all the information. They (teams) have some right to confidentiality in this process. As long as I’m aware of the fact that they took all the right steps — and I verified that by the way.”
On moving the Pro Bowl from Hawaii and changing the date:
THE COMMISH: “It is a big change. We thought it was a great way to create a new platform and a bigger platform for our great players…We’ve already sold more tickets to the Pro Bowl this year than we’ve sold in the past. Hawaii ’s been a great place and we’re going back next year. This is an opportunity for us to try something different and have this be the lead up to Super Bowl Week, and we think it’s a great way to start the game. So far the reaction has been very positive.”
On the NFL Players Union , the labor agreement and uncapped year:
THE COMMISH: “Good news is that dialogue is happening. But obviously as we get closer to the start of a new year it becomes increasingly likely we’ll be in an uncapped season, and the clubs are preparing for that.”

I was a Brooking fan when he played for the Falcons. I even have two Brooking Falcon jerseys. I will never wear these jerseys again after watching how he acted on the sidelines in Dallas during the Falcon game. He showed me what kind of character he really was. I don’t care what happens to Dallas in the playoffs. I wish Dallas and Minnesota could both lose. I’m so tired of hearing about Favre. Brooking will never be in the Falcon ring of honor as far as I’m concerned.

Absolutely not. Not after the way he handled himself after he left. If he had shown some dignity and class, I would even though I hate the Cowboys. I was a Brooking supporter to the end, but he lost me with childish behavior. I’m also not to fond of the fact that he apparently dogged it the last three seasons or so he was here; that isn’t what leaders do. I supported him because I thought he was a great player who was just out of gas. Turns out, he’s just a spoiled wuss who deservedly got his feelings hurt.

I liked Brooking when he was a Falcon. But, c’mon, he left here saying he would always be a Falcon and come back to Atlanta when he was through playing. A few months later, he was flapping his arms like a mad man on the Dallas sideline as they beat us. Kind of lost respect for the guy after that. Can’t believe you think Baltimore will take Indy. @AtlantaCowboy. It’s crazy isn’t it? A guy flaps his arms on the sideline and they detest him. A guy flips off his fans, stabs his team in the back, lies to the owners face, and tears the franchise down and they revere him. Maybe Blank will move the team one day….
On a blog related note, I’ve been pulling for the Cowboys this postseason. Mainly because the Falcons aren’t in it and there’s no way I’d ever pull for the Eagles or Saints.

Liked Brooking OK as a Falcon Even forgave him for being a Tech man
But he is beyond the bounds of my forgiveness with his classless
taunts vs. the Falcons. Keith, wouldn’t be ironic if a cut block like
the Tech boys use comes your way at the worst possible time in the
game on Sunday. Don’t get me wrong not wishing it, but it would be
both ironic kinda and some really bad karma for little Keith.

Your a right D. Orlando Ledbetter, I don’t know the joy of back to back winning seasons. It has NEVER been done before. The Falcons are the first team in NFL history to do it. Maybe the NFL needs to cancel next season and give the Falcons the Super Bowl championship now. Why not cancel the next 10 seasons and give the Falcons the Championship. Now you can have your parade down Northside Drive, from I-75 to the Stadium. What do you think?

Are you kidding? I respect Brooking, and unlike a lot of other Falcons fans, thought he played his heart out when he was here. However, I’ve hated the Cowboys since I was a kid. Just the thought of that ‘80 playoff game where the Falcons had a 17 point lead and then lost in the last two minutes still kills me. No, I laugh every time “America’s Team” chokes in the playoffs now.

How can anyone like Brett Favre? Use your head people, the guy plays only for himself. For example, he ruined the season last year for the Jets and then comes back and says he was playing injured. Well, if you were injured, don’t you think you should have sat out and not screwed over the Jets organization? Brett Favre does not care about anyone except himself, and padding his stats.

Many of us were heart-broken when Keith was not resigned that is until he flapped his arms like wings to mock the Falcons at home. That one act defined why Brooking was sent packing—no character. Now today some sweet icing on the cake with the Cowboys being demolished by Brett and the Vikings. Pay back is a bithc.

Watching the playoff game…
after the Vikes scored their last TD,
Brooking went over to the Viking sideline
and mouthed off.
Where was that fire when he played in Atlanta?
He sure didn’t have it the last three seasons
while he dogged it with the Falcons.
Brooking has shown, once again, that he is a jerk.
He shows yet again his poor sportsmanship.
In the NFL, you play 60 minutes.
That has been beaten in me as a Falcon fan for 40 years as
Other teams have humilitated my team by scoring without end.
Brooking is just a jerk.
I’m glad that Todd Grantham is now free to head to UGA.
I’m glad Brooking is out of the playoffs.

“I thought it was totally classless and disrespectful,” Brooking said. “This is the NFL, that’s not what this is about. I don’t think there’s a place for that … I was looking for [Vikings coach Brad] Childress. I didn’t think it was right, but they’ve got to see us next year. They’ve got to see us. You better believe I’ll have that one circled on the calendar, but I say that, we get paid to stop them. I don’t care what’s called, but sometimes I don’t think there was much class in that decision to do what he did.” – Okay, how can he honestly say that when he was the one taunting the Falcons? Karma’s a b****, Keith.

I’m right here watching all of you Brooking haters have your little meltdowns. I was actually pulling for the Vikings today….love that warrior Favre…but I did think it was a little classless that Favre and Childress went for the score instead of running out the clock….Maybe the Vikings/Cowboys have some agenda I don’t know about but it was classless. Now if Brooking were a black player the announcers and all you haters would be talking about how much “swagger” he had. What are ya’ll gonna do when he retires. My gosh…he’s been gone from Atlanta for a year, playing for a different team and doing well and we have entire articles and hundred post threads about the guy….its really laughable…please get a life. I know ya’ll have all just been holding your breath that the Cowboys and Brooking didn’t go to the SuperBowl…we would have had to call in crisis counselors for you haters…LMAO. This thread is obviously the outpouring of joy that Brooking did not go further into the playoffs. Maybe we can find another white player to hate on in the offseason and give Keith a break for awhile…LOL

At least KB’s team was in the playoffs and had a chance to win the Super Bowl. Where were the Falcons? They were at home watching the playoffs on TV. KB has the last laugh. His team beat the falcons and were in the playoffs. So falcon fans be happy about your 1st time in 43 years having back to back winning seasons. Set your goal low. Other team’s goal is to be in the playoffs and win the Super Bowl.

Keith Brooking is a LOSER with a capital “L”. I am so glad he NOT a Falcon any longer. He has some serious mental problems. When he played at Tech he used to complain about Florida State when they demolished Tech every year. He called them “dirty”. What a big punk he is, pansy.

KB was not griping when the beat down the Eagles. Now it’s classless to get their a$$e$ kicked. KB is just peeved that he had another playoff meltdown. Over running plays, jumping offside and that dreadful bite on the play action on 3rd and 16 last year in the playoffs. You know what? He is the one who chokes in big games. I was fan of Brookings while he was a Falcon but I took exception to his dirty bird mocking in our game earlier this year and see no difference in the Viking’s thumping than the Green Bay thumping earlier in the playoffs. Keith may have stayed longer with Atlanta if he’d been more of a demonstrative leader but his inconsistent play negated any chance he had left. I can’t help but wonder if steroids haven’t created the classless Hyde we now see on Sportscenter in the Cowboy uni 51. Brooking transforming into a classless taunting crybaby is reason Schultz’s poll is so lopsided. He apparently has moved on and so have we.
