2009 Reunion/Alumni Tour.

They were 3-1 in games against former Falcons this season and none of them turned out well.

It all started with the Dallas game. The Falcons lost and Keith Brooking celebrated like he’d won the lottery.

Then there was the Washington Redskins game. The Falcons won that one, but former cornerback DeAngelo Hall got into a scuffle on the Falcons’ sidelines. Coach Mike Smith and Director of Athletic Performance Jeff Fish ended up getting fined by the league. Hall was not fined.

On to the New York Gaints and Michael Boley. He’s a real quiet guy, but even he spoke up during the week leading up to the game. He didn’t like the way the coaching staff handled his

demotion late last season and seemed to be miffed that the Falcons didn’t want to re-sign him.

Michael Vick’s return will be remembered for the chants of “We Want Vick, We Want Vick” in the fourth quarter.

“It felt great to hear the crowds reaction in the fourth quarter,” Vick said. “It was 50-50 reaction in the beginning of the game. It was awesome to have chance to go out and make some plays today.”

At least Vick didn’t do a Jeff George victory lap or proclaim “This is my House” like Deion Sanders did on their Reunion games with the Falcons.

“We were beat on all levels and it is an embarrassment to the organization and our team,” defensive end Jamaal Anderson said. “We never imagined that this would happen. With Michael (Vick) coming back, they came into this game with a lot of emotion, and we weren’t ready for what they brought to the field. We have to move forward because we have another big game next week.”

On to the Saints and that vaunted offense.

This game was painful to watch. I beleive this is the 2nd time in 2 years that Vick beat us since the last time would have been the whole “Bobby Petrino disaster” that cost us the whole season since he had to go to jail. I don’t remember feeing this embarressed watching a game in the dome since Warren Sapp scored a touchdown and danced on the Falcon logo. Speaking of Petrino, who let him into camp to come up with this game plan, it sure reminded me of one his finest. Though, maybe the biggest problem is the problems and not the coaches. No, it’s probably both. The only thing I can think of his Jim Mora’s old quote “Playoffs! Playoffs! Are you kidding me, Playoffs! I just hope we hope we win another game” That was how bad we looked. I really can’t imagine next week being much better except no more former players to gloat over beating us. Wonder if we can get our hands on some of the brown bags Saints fans had to wear so many years? I think we may need them. Get ready for another blowout next week!

The Falcons were doing the same thing they did when he was here, which was standing by watching him instead of playing football. I am embarrassed to be a Falcons fan right now and they better get it right! I’m tired of sitting by watching other teams sign playmakers and we act like we are too good to sign one. I remember the Falcons saying something like they arent signing anyone unless they are a future hall of famer, who are we to make a statement like that? We keep trotting out all these bums on defense and expect the outcome to be different? Give me a freakin break!

I would have to say this is the worst loss by mike smiths team since he has been here. smitty u better get it turned around quick the saints are next. i hope we can @ least keep it close. today we got our offical beat down. this loss makes me sick. owens did look like he has a upside. babs and lofton should only be the ones paid this week. everyone else must have called in sick because nobody else showed up.

Many people act as though the team is a wash. It is not. This team is an improvement over the Bobby Petrino Team. We had a tougher schedule this year than last, we have players injured who were healthy last year and last year, Matt Ryan was new and none of the opponents had had a chance to figure him out.

Come off it people. Sure, our players played as if the weren’t motivated today, but with the number of things that have gone wrong lately, I am not surprised. I am looking for OUR team to snap out of it next week and get rolling again. Til then, I remain a fan for life.

You know, looking at the biggest weaknesses from a football standpoint and leaving Vick out of it for a moment: I think the loss of Jenkins was (I’m as surprised as anyone to say this since he hasn’t been as sure handed this year) HUGE. I don’t think Booker, Finneran, or Weems were adequate replacements, as they were utilized today anyway. If you take out White and Gonzalez, where can Redman go? Remember, he threw a lot to Jenkins last week to free up the other guys. Also, the back-ups on O-line not up to the play of the starters obviously. How did Sidbury get his first start today without any fanfare? And his first NFL start, he got more sacks than the whole defense!!?? The biggest question on defense is why other players were not brought in more readily when starters went down? We started the year as being very thin on defense as it was and forcing 2nd and 3rd stringers into starting roles has not worked this season. We all may need to keep our eyes closed next week.

THE ONE THING THAT THE ANTI-VICK / PETA PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT THEY FORCED THE HAND OF AURTHOR BLANK AND HE MADE THE WRONG MOVE . HE HAS TO PAY VICK MILLIONS OF DOLLARD AND VICK DOES NOT PLAY ON HIS TEAM. VICK “DOES NOT ” AND I REPEAT DOES NOT NEED THE ATLANTA FALCONS. Substandard….with 5 starters out, we didn’t have a chance. Clearly we have no depth on the second string a.k.a. (B team) and it won’t get better until the starters are back. Top 5 Points of Disgust

1. Chris Redman was putrid. He demoralized the team from the beginning.
2. Mike Mularkey called a horrible game.
3. Why did we cut DJ Shockley? He would at least put up a fight.
4. This Dimitroff boy genius sht has run its course.

To Calvin G. Sims, Sr.: I didn’t mean to imply this team is as bad the Bobby Petrino team. (though many players are still here that were on that team). I just meant that we know this team is a better team than that one and that we have better coaches, but today they sure played like Bobby Petrino’s Falcons. Actually, Petrino’s Falcons were SuperBowl worthy compared to today’s performance. That is what is so frustrating. They did not play up to their potential. Injures are a valid excuse, but what happened to the players that did suit up?

On a side note, next week will be our 2nd straight week of playing a team that just squeaked by the Redskins. We saw what it did to the Eagles. Regardless, I will be there screaming for them to beat the Saints as I always do.

Yes-I still remember that infamous victory lap that Jeff George did back in ‘97 after beating the Falcons as a Raider. What was funnier was that evening on ESPN, one of the commentators, in response to George’s lap, wondered why a quarterback with a 36% winning percentage as a starting QB (George) would take a victory lap in any dome.

I want to rant a bit about the Falcon ‘fans’.

To the 2/3 of the stadium who, like a viscous dog, turned against their team, shouting “We Want VICK” until he came out, greeted with gusto roars of approval; TURN IN YOUR SEASON TICKETS.

But you couldn’t stop there, could you ‘fans’? NOt only did you root for Vick, you started rooting for the Eagles! People, in Vick jerseys of both green and red, some waving Falcon flags, CHEERING the Eagles on every play, Vick or not.

The defense was looking around in total bewilderment at the crowd reaction, staggering in shock as if literally pulling the daggers out of their backs. It was the lowest of low moments with this team, and if any of the defense reads these words, know you were not alone. It was the strangest energy I ever felt from a crowd. How can a stadium 60% full of Falcon swag wearing season ticket holders, and a smattering of Eagle fans turn this into homefield advantage for the visiting birds?

It was obvious that most of the true Falcon fans had already left by the 3rd quarter (thanks to impotent football by the said Home Team). What was unfortunate, was those few REAL fans left, to the horror of myself and said real fans, had to endure an almost magical 180 turn against our Falcons.

Interesting that probably 90% of those cheering Vick and booing their team were of a particular race. But we won’t go there, will we? I witnessed at least 1 ‘blacks on whites’ fight at the game, and it was not on the field.

I left after the two minute warning. Even I could not take any more. The Falcons scored their only touchdown of the game when I left. I wonder if anyone cheered?

It was the most Bizarro World thing I have ever witnessed.
et tu, bro?

Look I’m a fan of both Vick and Ryan and I like to keep this objective. Vick has not really played this season and its unfair to call him one thing or another. Matt Ryan was Great early and now has hit a wall and now will determine if he will be a Franchise QB or just servicable (He aint bad either) and I think the White Biggots need to realize the talent that Vick Had and probably still has and the Black Biggots need to realize that Matt Ryan is a pretty good 2ND year QB and show them both respect. Now what Vick did was wrong no doubt but also in my opinion he got off easy compared to Plaxico Burress Who basically shot himself in the foot and gets put away for that. The only one he hurt was himself but he gets 3 years Vicks kills dogs and gets 2 years and Donte Stallworth KILLS A MAN WHILE DRUNK DRIVING and gets 30 DAYS!!!!! so many issues but from all of these posts there are still a lot of people that don’t have a clue on both sides. My point being if youre a Falcon Fan cheer for this team and support them and if your a vick Fan support him and RELIZE that there a bunch of people that support Matt Ryan and Michael Vick like me. And I hope Ryan gets well soon and finishes the season off good and I hope Vick gets another chance and becomes a positive story.

Wow has MV stirred up a hornest nest. After 33 yrs in ATL, I moved to rural AR a yr ago…and yeah the racial divide with respect to the Vick issue is just so apparent.. We dont get Falcons games here, just the scores during other games, but it was apparent from the brief updates that the MV jerseys were out in force…It just reinforces the fact that half of Atlanta thinks its OK for thugs to falunt their own rules..thats one of the reasons we moved from our burgeoning 3rd world ATL neighborhood…illegals, hip hop jungle music noise at 3am on n on, and the continued minority political cronyism that ran the city into the ground..as in the EPA sewers n fines circus that couldve been properly addressed prior to millions of $$$$ in fines decdes ago if the race card had been properly ignored….
Thats Atlanta, and I have little hair left after pullin it out for 32 yrs watchin serial Falcon “organizations” serially screw up…only to have MV arrive as the “savior”, then pee away the biggest contract in histoi..and for what..a 2K bet on dogs for the homies>>>>and half of Atlanta still thinks hes the Pope…. This is prime evidence why this way of thinking never ever advances in life…..And as for the rest of the folks n fans..you have to live with this nonsense..or move away……

Perhaps some day, if the race issues ever disappears or accomplished politicians are elected, the city will be able to move on to better things..and better franchises…..

Im 8– miles away and I KNEW that todays dynamics would re appear with MV’s arrival….

I wasnt disappointed

I disaGREE with those who have written comments complaining about the fans. The fans were loyal to the Falcons and their quarterback Mike Vick. Now that Vick is no longer a Falcon, many fans still remember the joy and excitement that he once brought. I was hoping that the Falcons would win, but that Vick would have a good game. Unfortunately, Vick came with his game face and the Falcons didn’t. When I gave up my Falcons season tickets, they were close to $100 bucks a game. When you pay that kind of money for even one game, you can cheer whomever the heck you wish.

let me say first, one of my dear friends is a black-american, not african-american, per him, because he, nor his parents,grand-parents, or great grandparents have ever been there, so, with that said, i am not racist..now, black people love to have one of their own be a hero. plain and simple..they stick together, in right or wrong instances. but, so do a whole lot of other folks.. i was a little taken back for the cheers that vick got today, not because he is one the black folks hero’s, i kinda expected that, like when O.J. got off killing two white people, but for the fact that he let the Falcons and the city of Atlanta down with what he did several years ago. i owned a vick jersey once, and was proud of him, but he really let us down, plain and simple.. therefore, i don’t think he deserved to be cheered for, maybe a clap at the start of the game, but thats about it. one last thing,,,, i’m still waiting for Arthur Blank to come out pushing Matt Ryan in a wheelchair.. ya think that’ll ever happen???

Crabapplejoe: When I was a teen here in Atlanta, I had to drink from a “colored only” water fountain….it WAS NOT that long ago. Mike Vick did NOT start a racial divide in Atlanta. It was here before he was born. However, I don’t think there is anything “racial” about fan support for Vick….many whites cheered him and many blacks left the stadium early. Of coures many more blacks believe that Vick’s sentence was unjust. That’s because there are so many other politicians, entertainers, and sports stars who have done worst things ( to human beings–not dogs)and didn’t receive the punishment that MV has endured. Next week the Saints will come to the dome and they will come enmasse. Falcon fans will attempt to cheer the Falcons on….and life will go on for those who aren’t concerned about jobs, shelter, and putting food on the table. After all football is just a game!

Mick Vick, or Chris Redman. Case closed. Michael Vick was the most exciting athlete in the NFL. He did not kill anyone, sell drugs to children, rape or kill a woman etc. Yet he served two years in prison for a crime that a white man would have only served probation.( Yea I went there)

Congrats on a 5 yard TD run and a 5 yard TD pass when the score was 27-0. Do I get credit if my team runs to the inner red-zone and let my 8 month old crawl across? What a joke.

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT I PICTURED WHEN WE LET 5 DEFENSIVE STARTERS GO AND DIDN’T GET ANY TOP TALENT IN THE DB OR DLINE VET POOL.

I THOUGHT OUR DEFENSE WOULD AT LEAST HIT VICK HARD ENOUGH TO KNOCK A SNOT BUBBLE OUT THRU HIS EARHOLE. GUESS THEY DIDN’T HEAR WE WERE PLAYING AT HOME.

DEAR SAINTS, PLEASE BE GENTLE. MY BACKSIDE STILL HURTS MIGHTY BAD. DOES OUR SCOREBOARD EVEN HAVE THE DIGITS TO GO TO 100?

WIN OUT V. JETS, BILLS, BUCS? THAT WOULD BE SWELL, BUT WOULD INVOLVE MAKING BIG PLAYS FOR 12 STRAIGHT QUARTERS.

WAKE ME UP WHEN IT’S OVER. OH, IT’S OVER ALREADY? I WILL PICK UP MY HOPES AND PASTE THEM BACK TOGETHER ANYWAY.

IF WE’RE GOING TO FANTASIZE ABOUT BRINGING SOMEONE BACK WHO’S UNDER CONTRACT, CAN IT BE BIG OL’ GRADY JACKSON TO SIT ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE?

Hey Joe…

thanks for the hi five..Look to you and folks who read this….I m not a bigot..In college I had black roomates 2 yrs n white ones the other 2 and the black guys where far n away better men and didnt play those country club white boy elitist games they learned at home.

Im here in AR..but I still LOVE Atlanta..I lived there in : Decatur, College PK, Nothlake, Conyers & Lawrenceville for 32 yrs..all my adult kids were BORN there… I told my wife tonite after the game..Look we’re Here in AR but Atlanta is was and forever will be..my HOME!!! I was there from the beginning of its ascendeancy into an international city..ther city too busy to hate and watched..while the developers, the money men and the race baiters turned a dream into a messed up, gridlocked, foreclosed, subprime mortgage nightmare… I was not BS in about my burgeoning 3rd world digs…owners moved on, renters in,..5 cars on the lawn drug dealers..I had to be armed in my own subdivision…and always , nearly always. the people who caused all the problems were those who embraced the MV hip hop lifestyle…not the smooth jazz educated urbanites with whom I laughed n flourished, but the types of people who thought that MV had done “Nuthin” wrong..and made personal choices and lived their lives as he did….. blaring their noise at all hours of the night and even refusing to change their behavior after numerous visits from the heat….Thats my last memory of my digs there, one problem after another….in a subprime neighborhood goin downhill.. My fault, I should’ve moved when the issues began, but I thought wed tough it out..so when the 1st opportunity for a gig elsewhere developed…I told my wife” We’re outta here” and went… The Lville cops were probably happy to see me go…as our 24/7/365 all nite barkin dog subdiv, as others adjacent to us, had become a joke to decent folks of all races who wed met in neighborhood associations…..

We’re here..but Id rather be back w you in MY Town Atlanta…my home..MV was the poster boy for bad behavior and bad personal choices..hence the legions who defended him..people whose actions are continually rude and disrespectful of others rights to enjoy their homes n property in peace n quiet

Crapapple, you can not divide something that never existed… I won’t even go through the long history of the Falcons being a simply putrid football organization. The average Atlantan has support other teams. At least the 98 Super Bowl got people to care a little again in terms of the football product. Of course the Falcons turned right around and fumbled away that opportunity. Bad draft after bad draft, how many tight ends did we pick? Dan Reeves continual picking a defensive linemen du jour from the waiver wire. What you folks do not understand is how close this team was being early 70’s Falcons again. Reeves knew he was going as far as he would ever go with Chandler. How many more years did he play? So he had a choice Tomlinson or Vick. He has felt you can get a good running back later in the draft. Don’t believe me, check his history. Vick was his 2nd chance at Elway. He and his draft counsel should have done a better ob jof vetting Vick, but overall he got what he want and some more. I say again, Drew Brees would have been killed playing behind the offensive line of 2001-2005.

Now, do you really reside in rural Fulton County? If so, enjoy,,, However, the so-called “Racial Divide” has existed since the day “Terminus” was founded. That is original name for Atlanta by the way… I repeat, Michael Vick did not bring that divide to the surface. it was always on the surface. Atlanta could have exploded like every other metropolis in the 60’s. Instead, it worked on compromises. Instead of White Atlanta truly reaching across the table and realizing the shift in power; there has been this consistent sniping and undermining of the City of Atlanta and in return its majority black citizenry. Whether it be the undercutting of MARTA, the destruction of the neighborhood during “urban renewal,” or the persistent state of “white flight” and community “red lining.” Only in the most stagnant of minds would someone destroy a tax base and then expect it to do miracles. I could go on, but if you don’t want to truly address the real reason that large segments of both communities are at each others throats, then you choose to that way…

Leave Michael Vick out of it, he did not destroy the Falcons. Joe Montana went down multiple times in his career. It is funny how the 49ers of the 80’s and 90’s could plug in Jeff Kemp or Steve Bono and still succeed. But, I keep hearing how Vick destroyed the Falcons. A large segment of African-Americans did not leave the Falcons when Vick was injured in 03. Doug Johnson and Dan Reeves drove that train off a cliff. Good franchises raise above adversity. Good people do the same thing as well…

Hey Dee,

hers what I mean..biased beliefs??? AR is not Arizona..its Arkansas…

Is it biased or fact to indicate that:

The city was fined by the EPA millions of $$$ with regard to aging infrastucture>>

This couldve been fixed in 1977,,if the race conscoius political cronies runnin city hall wouldve dug the trench thru East Point, connected it to a proposed plant. and channeled the sewer overflows propely..instead of this environmental racism BS….

so race based POOR business decisions forced Shirley Franklin to address the issue after years of millioin $$$ fines.. and the solution was (drum roll)

having to dig under BUCKhead some od Americas most expensive real estate to build a ssytem for big $$$ now.. areally poor business decsion with taxpayers money..but Oh

we’ll just tax the hell out of N Fulton..

I was there..I saw the cronyism and race based decsions which emerged from successive administrations in city hall.. I dealt with the mayors people who were quick to take issue w me if I didnt genuflest to them apppropirately

Biased????? I’d check your facts first…..One can NEVER EVER criticize the behavior with out being called biased…..

Its the BEHAVIOR Dee Dee…Not the race!!! get it?????

I will proudly admit I helped start the “We Want Vick” chants from my seat in the nosebleeds. I bought tickets to this game in August solely because I wanted to see Vick play again, even though I knew he probably wouldn’t play much. And of course, as a Vick fan, his playing time in this game couldn’t have possibly gone any better. It’s great to see him scoring TDs with his arm and his legs again, and it’s even better to visualize him doing this as a starting quarterback somewhere next year.

All that said, I was really disappointed to find out this week that so many starters would be sitting out for both teams, and I take no pleasure in seeing the Falcons self-destruct on their home turf like they did. I would have loved to see a tightly contested game — of course, one in which Vick made equally significant contributions. In fact, if anything I would have loved to see Matt Ryan use this game as an opportunity to put the team on his back (as opposed to Michael Turner’s), lead the team to victory, and win over his doubters. It would have made for a great storyline. It’s unfortunate that this couldn’t be the great football game it looked like it might be a month ago.

Oh yeah, by the way… I’m not black, and there were PLENTY of white people with Vick jerseys yelling “We Want Vick” with me. The racial aspect of this is way, way overblown. Vick is popular here because he was a great player who made more great plays in four years as a starter than any other Atlanta athlete made over their entire career, with the exception of Dominique Wilkins. Nobody is going to chant “We Want Byron” the next time Byron Leftwich returns to the Georgia Dome.

By the way, a lot is going to be made of Ryan, Turner, and Jenkins being out, but the injured offensive lineman made the biggest difference in my opinion. Every mistake Redman made was caused by pressure from the Eagles’ front four. The Falcons’ O-line was completely overmatched the entire game, and if they had been able to keep Redman on his feet and open some holes for Snelling and Norwood (especially near the goal line) this game would have probably been very different.

For those that wanted to blast Ryan, do you still feel the same way? Here are some questions to consider: Was the offensive line the same? No, but the pressure on the quarterback was. Teams have been getting pressure all season. Were the receivers the same? Yes, with the exception of Jenkins, however this could be considered a positive per his love of dropping potential touchdowns. I’m considering the run game null and void as we were behind so much it didn’t matter.
Here is my point: It is amazing that Ryan has had the success this year that he has. Ryan is under constant pressure. He is consistently throwing into some of the tightest throwing windows in the NFL. And the defense seems to know exactly what we are trying to do.
Mularkey has taken steps backward this year. If a team “steals” him away as a head coach I won’t cry one bit. His running plays are above average, but the pass play calling and design is pitiful. Last year when teams gave us a one safety look to stop the run, the sorry pass design was successful. Now that teams are playing two deep, there is no room to throw the ball. If Ryan isn’t absolutely perfect with his throws they get picked.
Bottom Line: Offensive design and playcalling HAS to improve

Glad they lost.............

I have read everyones blogs and I can say that I am Black American in Iraq from the Southwest Side of ATLANTA. I’ve been a Falcon since 1978 or so. Bubba Bean was the man and Steve Bartkowski was our QB. I had never witnessed the excitment we had when Vick was the face of the franchise. Matty Ice is pretty good but the truth is he does not create the same excitement. What is done is done and we have to move forward. Our defense is simply too bad to think about a winning season. MB, Foxworthy, and Grady Jackson. We need all of those players. We need better people on defense. Why haven’t we picked up Chris Mc or Ty Law. They are still more than serviceable and they could’ve helped young guys Owens, Grimes and other. You get what you pay for. Vick has nothing to do with Mayoral election, so why bring it on her. Sports and like someone said it is a game.

Man black people love Michael Vick. They act like that guy is the black Jesus. You would think the way the crowd was acting that the Falcons had won three super bowls with Vick at QB and that he was wrongfully imprisoned for killing someone who was raping his wife and children, instead of doing something stupid like dog fighting and putting himself first above his team. But oh well. I can honestly say that I have never seen people wearing the home team’s jersey cheering for the away team during a game that the home team’s playoff lives depended on.

Get ready Atlanta because you will be the talk of sports radio nationwide and atlanta will be ripped again for being the worst sports town in the world.

Allen Iverson didn’t win sh-t as a Philadelphia 76er, skipped out on fan appreciation events, had poor practice habits, had plenty of off-court trouble, and eventually whined his way out of Philadelphia. But while he was a 76er, he provided Philly fans with great play after great play, gave 110% on the court, put mediocre teams on his back every year and made them competitive single-handedly. Needless to say, he still receives standing ovations every time he returns to Philly, and the 76ers’ ticket sales have spiked considerably since they signed him last week.

Vick’s relationship with Atlanta and the Falcons is not very different, and it’s no surprise that he was given a warm reception by many of us. He deserved it, and he would have gotten the same in any other city.

There were Eagles fans at the game. They were loud. However, this was the home of the Falcons. “True” Falcons fans headed for the exits in the 3rd quarter. The rest of us Falcon fans that have seen the ups and downs of the franchise, did indeed call for, chant, and cheer for Vick. Not because we were against the Falcons per se. We were against the bad decision making that has pervaded the front office forever.

Vick and his teammates played a flawless game. They were great!!!

The fans had the right to cheer for whomever that wished …..after all they purchased their tickets.

I hope Vick always remember: WHAT IS FOR YOU IS FOR YOU” AND “IT AIN’T OVER TIL GOD SAYS IT’S OVER” I wish him much sucess and God’s blessings.

The racist part of anything related to Vick is tht fact that he went to prison for something that White’s have been doing for years and are still doing and have never spent a day in jail or ever gone to prison for doing.so. Let’s not talk about the many Blacks that have been murdered or abused at the hands of Whites who have never been procecuted or charged. But I SUPPOSE BLACKS ARE STILL NOT CONSIDERED HUMAN. But less be honest about the Vick matter- the aim was to “BREAK” him financially, kill his spirit, and de-humanized…. Black’s don’t deserve to have wealth… they are not deserving of such Although he has served the time given …that is still not enough for the righteous people who think they were placed on earth to controll and tell everyone else how to live and what to do.

Atlanta fans are an embarrassement to the city and the Falcons. All the signs for loving MV was a disgrace. Mr. Blank should find a place well outside the city of Atlanta and build a new stadium and the team should be come the Georgia Falcons. Andy Reed and the Eagles are a classless bunch and hopefully they will get theirs real soon. MV is the 3rd string QB on this team but Reed chose to rub the Falcons nose in the Vick past. I hope CMS and TD remember this and put a good ass whopping on them the next time. The classless fans that were in the dome Sunday deserve nothing more than they are getting. There is not a curse on the football team but a lack of support by the fans. The racial divide has always been here, Micheal Vick didn’t start it. Nothing much has changed from the 60’s, same people protested civil rights are still hanging around, if not them, their kids are…I’m not a Vick fan per se, but my faith teaches me to forgive and let live. If HE forgave my sins, who am I to judge Vick?

When Vick was here he was made the scapgoat for everything that the Falcons failed to do, now we see that the offensive line is horrible, but no one noticed until they put in a stationary quarterback. The receiver couldn’t catch when Vick was here, now everyone is complaining White and Jenkins are average at best. I believe the Falcons has plenty to worry about besides Vick, they’re just not a good team. Last years soft schedule made most think Atlanta was turning the corner, but this year things are back to normal. Ryan just doesn’t have the IT factor, like a Drew Brees, he’s average at best. A running back like Micheal Turner bruising style of running only last so long in the NFL, he will continue to be hurt. The defense has so many holes I don’t know where to start.

First time writer…..Nobody was a bigger Vick fan/supporter than myself but the last time I looked he plays for “the other team”. As a kid playing sports I was told that winning was not the only thing and that “how you play the game” was the most important thing. Funny, I only remember hearing those comments after a lose. I’m not a kid anymore and I support player salaries by buying Falcon stuff but I have a problem with the “we want Vick ” chants. OUR team is suppose to beat their team, point blank. I am glad Vick is getting a second chance and I hope he does well but if you were a chanter at the game or in your living room you may as well change over to the OTHER team. True Falcon fans want the Falcons to win NOT opposing individuals. Put that in your pipe and smoke it chanters and put your jerseys on ebay because die hard loyal fans only support one team, my team, the FALCONS.

I don’t even know where to start. I thought it was totally classless that Andy Reid made Vick a captain for this game. We didn’t desert Vick, he deserted Atlanta. Enough said about him. Chris Redman was awful but so was the o-line. I realize it was a patched together line but still…the offensive playcalling was the usual incomprehensible why are we running a scatback up the middle, mess. We still have apparently never heard of and/or don’t know how to execute a screen pass. John Abraham has dropped off the face of the Earth. Our miniature CB’s continue to be exploited. See Dimitroff for someone to blame. He went into this season with these guys. Here’s what I would do in the offseason because at this point, we are only playing for our dignity which is shredded. Fire Mularkey. Pay a free agent CB. Find a veteran backup QB. Draft depth for o-line and d-line. Pray Ryan can stay healthier next year and the turf toe is not an ongoing problem. Oy.

I like the post about Jeff Garcia, goes back to the Mike McKenzie and Chris McAlister rant I was on last week. Look, we got jaded and on a high horse about this season. Now we are at reality. Let’s focus on the next few games and getting our Falcons back on the field and healthy. Instead of focusing on a very overrated Mike Vick (oh, I was a believer, but face it, he’s OVERRATED), let’s look at Seven missing Offensive Starters and a defense that is lacking major, major components.

Draft strategies will have to include Brandon Spikes and Taylor Mays. BVG? Got to review him. Mularkey?? There are some questions but when your without your two studs, what are you expected to do?

Moral of the story? Vick is overrated and the Falcons are who we thought they were, now let’s get a winning season.

He completely sold out the franchise that gave him the world on a platter. He spit in our face! And now he’s the “nice guy getting a second chance” — it is sickening. Vick didn’t have to beat the Falcons to have redemption. In fact, his redemption came when he got the go-ahead to be an NFL player again. When he took his punishment like a man and served time. He was never slighted by the Falcons for a second (wheelchair on sidelines, $120 million, innocent until admitted guilty). He squandered one of the greatest opportunities given to a sports athlete.

Yesterday was truly pathetic, and not because the Falcons on-field performance was terrible. A 7 month old could blog that.

To all of you Falcons fans who cheered on the Eagles so that Vick could have redemption, I hope you never come to a Falcons game again. For the rest of your lives. That’s like a situation where a husband cheats on a wife, then actually cheering the husband on to get back at the wife because she divorced him over his poor choices. That logic is akin to eating yellow snow. It will never make sense.

What kind of talented player will ever want to play in Atlanta with fans like this? How are we going to attract a great defensive free agent in the offseason when they know the home crowd may cheer when they get scored on?

Eagles fans near me told me we were the most pathetic fan base around. I’ve passionately supported the Falcons my whole life. But on this day I couldn’t agree with an opposing fan more.

I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1991. I attended every single game Mike Vick played as a Falcon – all the highs and all the lows. Mike was great for this football team – nobody can deny that.

However, the simple fact is that Mike can never be an Atlanta Falcon ever again. This man stole from each and every one of us who are fans and who gave our FINANCIAL support to the Falcons. He signed (at the time) the largest contract ever for a football play while knowingly engaging in ILLEGAL activity. He also cost each of his teammates potential lost $$$ by his selfish behavior.

So, become Eagles fans (but be prepared to switch allegiences next season) and root for your boy if you must. True Falcon fans did not wear their Falcons’ Vick jerseys yesterday…

The Falcons are too banged up and are too poorly prepared by coaches to keep up with quality teams..

It is time to start thinking about major off-season changes at corner backs, defensive line, running backs and wide receivers. AND MAYBE A NEW DEFENSIVE AND OFFENSIVE CO-ORDINATOR!!

The line-backers have been the bright spot all season long..

Without Ryan and Turner, this team is lost offensively.

How did Shockley lose out to Redman?. Shockley has a better arm but obviously not as astute.

Falcons start cleaning your lockers and see whose head will roll off Falcons’ roster!!

Bird Watcher, I’m a true fan. I saw the TD with 0:00 left on the clock, better than over 75% of the people that were there at kickoff. He questioned our fan base in the fourth quarter and I’m smart enough to realize there were 10 Eagles / Falcons Eagels fans to 1 of me still left. Not a great time to smack back.

I have all pass articles and even the letter that Mike Vick wrote in prison, asking for mercy in his own handwriting. He deserves all the standing ovations and shouts he can get. MV lost it all, once upon time….now he back on top and I Love It!!!! VICK PLEASE COME BACK, WE NEED YOU AND WANT YOU!!!

I hear you Bullish. I understand, but that is also my point. You stayed, but plenty Falcon fans left. The Vick/Eagle fans were the ones that remained. Some fans even took on the idea that since my team is doing anything, then “get Vick on the field so we can have something to cheer about!”. It’s a messed up situation, but the anger needs to be with the decisions of the front office. If you lose Brooking, Milloy, and Boley, then have a logical plan in return. Don’t just play Madden and add Gonzolez like “Were gonna score 60 points a game! Who needs a defense!”. This is crazy! The fans need to be mad at the decisions of the front office, not this Vick distraction.

Bullish – You are spot on about Mackenzie and McAlister. That was just pure arrogance to leave them on the open market when that is your most glaring need. I’m sorry – you can’t build from the draft without good veteran leadership in place to teach. Do you think Chris Houston can teach Christopher Owens how to play corner? How about Grimes? McAlister and Mackenzie would have been excellent fill gaps and also good teachers for our young corners.

I never agreed with those who thought that Atlanta was a lousy sports town with lousy fan support but after yesterday I do. If you buy a ticket you have the right to boo and cheer whomever you please, but I think it is pretty sad when the majority of those in the stands are cheering for Michael Vick while their home team is getting pasted. Vick did an incredibly stupid thing and he paid the price. He has a right to make a living now just as anyone else who has done his time but I am just baffled by Atlanta “fans” who rejoice over Vick as if he were some conquering hero. If the situation were reversed and Vick had been the starting QB with Philadelphia when he was arrested, and he returned to Philly in a Falcon uniform, my guess is that the Philly fans would have cheered for their team and booed Vick out of the stadium.
Atlanta will never change. The city too busy to hate, my a**. Predominantly black in the city, predominantly white in the burbs. Everything from the mayor’s race to Michael Vick and the Falcons inevitably comes down to race. Pathetic!

gkash, I don’t know if you were old enough to see Dominique’s return with the Clippers, or Deion’s return with the 49ers, but Mike Vick’s return was quite similar. In all three games, the energy was unbelievable because of the lost star power. Atlanta craves star power. It has only been those three cases in Atlanta sports history where a player is recognized nationally. In all three cases, some fans felt that the star got a raw deal and it is an opportunity to stick to the franchise for making a dumb decision to let them go. Atlanta is too young in its sports history to have a generational fanbase. Mostly because it is a city of transplants. Therefore, there is not much allegiance to the organizations. However, the stars are bigger than the team in Atlanta. Atlanta franchises are infamous for making dumb decisions. Atlanta, so badly, wants to have a winner, even at the cost blurring their alegiance.

I humbly request that censors permit this post despite its length. Thank you.

This is difficult to type. I am speaking as a fan who has been a Falcon supporter since the birth of the team in the 1960s. All that ended over the weekend. I suffered in silence as Keith Brooking gloated during a Cowboy victory in Texas. It hurt but at least the Falcons competed. That was not the case Sunday at the Georgia Dome. Excuses be damned. There are no excuses for that giveup job. Some folks will say it is just a game. In this instance I disagree. This was a citywide disgrace. Falcon defenders should have been out of their minds when Mike Sick took the field. What was the response? Falcons stepped aside as he walked uncontested into end zone. Unacceptable. Falcon secondary looked the other way on his short touchdown pass. Unacceptable. Over the decades I have only despised and wished doom on several Falcons. Three quarterbacks come to mind. One of which was in the Georgia Dome recently. I can honestly say I truly hate every player/coach on present Falcon roster with the exception of Tony Gonzalez who works his butt off every play. Sorry you wound up with these quitters Tony. Just take the money and grit mouth guard tightly. A spot awaits you in Hall of Fame. I see injury prone Matt Ryan as a one season wonder with no instestional fortitude (guts). Allowing a toe bruise to keep him on sidelines. Matthew Stafford competes for his team with much more serious afflictions. Maybe the overrated Falcon QB and Thrasher waste Kari Lehtonen should tank their present seasons as a team. Both appear worthless. All I hear from apologists is wait till next year wait till next year. Listen people. I am over half a century old with a weak heart. That was fine when I was in my 20s but not now. Time is of essence for me and others like myself who have suffered with these losers since day one. Defeats are part of sports. Quitting is not. The Falcons quit against Philadelphia. That was painfully obvious to everyone with eyes to see. In the one game for which I would not sugar coat or forgive another defeat. Falcon wins used to bring me great joy. No longer. The Falcons quit on me. I have quit on them. Many will scoff and say good riddance. No problem. As a sportswriter for many decades I have an extremely thick skin. Many will call me a fair weather fan. That is not true. The decision I made was difficult due to my former adoration of team. I now wish nothing but doom and failure on this uncaring franchise. Southern teams like the Saints and Dolphins now have my support. They are now my official state teams. The Falcons are dead to me. Just as they are officially dead to the rest of NFL. Continued success Tony Gonzalez. God bless you. ++STENDEC++

Philly fans wouldn’t cheer for ex-star on opposing team (Wrong!) They cheered so hard for Iverson after he was traded, that the Sixers just signed him to a contract when no other team wanted him. Black & White folks clapped for Vick and the white Falcons owners hugged Vick, so stop making it a racial thing.

Bird,

The Falcons were playing bad. No doubt. But, fans usually give negative feed back by booing the team, not cheering for the other one. And yes, there’s a huge difference. The dome is supposed to be loud when the other teams offense is on the field. The fans are supposed to be the 12th man. The other teams offense is supposed to struggle calling audibles and plays in the huddle. Instead, when the Eagles were first came out of the gate, the “Falcons fans” started cheering them.

So, how would you react were you a Falcons player out there on your own home turf with the “fans” cheering for the other team before kickoff?

I like standec’s passion, but turf toe = toe bruise? Are you crazy? And if you are a true Falcons’ fans (like I am) and you grew up here (like I did), you’ve seen a lot worse than what we saw yesterday without Ryan, Turner, Dahl, Jenkins, etc. It’s true the defense stinks, but part of the reason we can hide that bad defense is with our ball control offense. That wasn’t there yesterday.

No matter how bad yesterday was (and it was horrible), this is a team in general that is going the right direction. they don’t have a lot of depth as we saw yesterday and the defense is horrible, but young.

Ivan,

I hear what your’e saying, but that’s when you steal your crowd back. Big time players make big plays in big games. You had fans in the stand who hadn’t been back since Vick left. They have no idea who is on the Falcons roster. Players should be professional, understand the situation, and make a name for themselves. I hate that Ryan couldn’t play because that was his opportunity to put a stamp on this franchise. I know things happen, but his injury was costly…hmm. now that I think about it, if this sophomore slump thing is true..it’s problably a blessing that he was hurt.

Question for Orlando: I know it’s close to a sin to question Van Gorder in these parts, but I’m really starting to question his rotation on the D-Line. I understand keeping players fresh, but I see guys literally in for 1 play & never have a chance to work against an O-Lineman to set him up for next move and things like that. Sometimes I think they would be more effective playing at least a series with some allowances for down & distance.

In the interest of full disclosure, I lived in Montana 15 years and moved to Atlanta 10 years ago, and started noticing this because I follow the hometown guy Kroy Biermann very closely. It seems like he’s in the doghouse lately getting many fewer snaps. Yet for the season he’s tied for the lead in sacks and has more tackles than any other D-Lineman except for Babineaux.

Are you hearing anything about coaches being disappointed in his performance?

Lets be real about one thing, Arthur Blank was glad they put the Eagles on the Schedule for ‘09. While you people, white and black are getting emotional about the game, Arthur made millions, thats what its about people Green not black and white. Vick was a product that the Falcons sold and we brought hook, line and sinker, you brought it, the advertisers brought it and the whole NFL made money on it. Don’t get mad at the Eagles or their coach for making him captian sunday, because the plan worked did you notice the score? The Falcons was thrown off by it. Bottom line, human life means very little to the rich, once the lion or bear kills the gladiator they invest in another. Not only did the Falcons try to sale Matt before last season but the NFL also because each city doesn’t only make money own their team but the visiting team also… Remember Micheal Jordan? The NBA is still trying to replace him. People wake up, no need in getting mad about MV7, even the system made millions by putting him away, they don’t put away your everyday dogfighters becasue it cost them to much money and they get nothing out of the deal. OJ, rather he did it or not made more many people rich who could care less about the two victims than you think. Another case of America getting emotionally involved which always generates money for the rich. The hug between MV7 and AB before the game said it all. You all need to hug each other.

A,

that post REALLY made sense..(eye roll)…….

Look I dont like dogs either..was biitten by one..Its just ludicrous..(no NOT LUDICRUS) to bank roll and participate in a dog fighting ring.. And to piss away the largest contract in the NFL in order to..POSSIBLY win abet of..on a good night (drum roll) maybe $2,000…..

Thay IMHO is the height of poor decision making, esp if you’re the face of Atlanta sports..all these kids in little guys who wanna be in the NFL…And to prattle over n over again abour Vick being ” VICTIMIZED by the establishment BECAUSE of his wealth on a big stage and NOT because of his bad behavior is really instructive with regard to the “critical thinking” of VICK suppoorters everywhere.

That his rise and fall occurred via factors other than his behavior and was jailed for things white folks do “routinely?????”….begs the issue..If white dog figthers were the face of a pro sports franchise, and became so public and in yo face about it,,with all the rules of conventional society for “other people” then I GUARANTEE you they be in jail too….
Vick was a SENSATIONAL talent in a city starved for it..and chose to flaunt numerous bad choices, in serial fashion, the bird fliups, the herpes issue, the water bottle airport piece….cmon

Its even more revealing about lotsa bad choices among lotsa Atlantans that these choices by him were OK like the lady in my neighborhood, whose dogs barked nonstop morning to night..It clearly violated the law..I told her about it and she replied “So if Im breakin the law..too bad..deal w it” and thats the exact same mentality of the Vick as victim crowd..

The poster who said..only in a place like ATlanta would thug behvior be considered Exemplary was spot on..

Yeah and it IS just a game for the poster who said that..but some behaviors, the inexplicable ones..explain why I had to leave the city I still and will always love…..

Ive been a Falcon fan since 1977 and yes the franchise has been serially inept..maybe its the water, and the Vick issue is just one more instance when front office serially inept people continue to act in a serially inept way…and have no clue about what they’re doin”

Lots of changes need to be made. I thought we had a good backup QB. Wrong. Get rid of him. Norwood, no help. Get rid of him. Corners, no good. Get rid of them. I hope I am wrong about MS & TD, and they had a bad year picking injury prone people in the draft. We blitzed a couple of times & McNabb hurriedly threw incompletions. He must have asked us to stop that because we did. I keep seeing OFF plays & DEF schemes that don’t work. Game after game. Whos fault is that? Get rid of them. I hope injuries is our biggest problem this year and not something else. Arthur, spend some money and get us some people. MS & TD., quit passing up good talent due to certain morals. Have you forgotton that this is the NFL. You are acting like some teachers putting kids on ritalin so as not to have any problems with them or in your case, not have them in the classroom at all.

This was without question one of the most painful games to watch in the dome since the days of Jim Mora (and that was a painful era). We can point to the long list of injuries that has blanketed this Falcons team, but make no mistake, the real problem appears to be that the coaching staff has lost their way. This team simply plays without a sense of urgency! In fact, there was a time when you could count on hearing one of Mike Smith’s sound bites about “the team playing fast, or quick, or playing with urgency. We have not heard those words in some time. With the exception of the 49er’s game, we have consistently shown little to not tenacity in these games. We literally gave away games to the Patriots, Giants, and the Panthers; and almost gave one away to the Buccaneers at home. GOOD teams do not lose these types of games and especially in the manner in which we lost them. Contrary to popular belief that Altanta fans are not supportive, MOST simply want to see good football played in all three phases. In the end should we lose to a better team then so be it. But the lethargic, sleep walking manner we have been playing this year is a quick way to get fans leaving for the exit and turning off their televisions. Sickening loss!

DLed, you get a lot of credit for being willing to even start this conversation. I can only imagine how many truly offensive comments you’ve had to censor.

@Najee-Keep on keeping it real son. Just like birthers, truthers, the KKK, and tea baggers, I understand that the true Vick haters, the ones who would forgive him in an instant if he wasn’t young black and rich, are a very small, yet very vocal minority themselves. Back in the day you would have been vilified as a N-lover, likely subjected to threats and physical intimidation. Don’t worry, we got your back too.

For any of you Stupid people who feel like only a bad person could support MV7, how can you rationalize ex-convict Martha Stewart’s return to fame and fortune? I guess lying, cheating, and stealing are OK with you just as long as no dogs were injured during the filming of that movie.

In fact everyone makes mistakes; Martha is just as deserving of a second chance as Mike. The good book that you are so fond of hiding behind instructs you that no one is free of sin; “NOT ONE OF YOU”. It says more about what kind of person you are that you will disregard the words of your professed God to hate Vick, than it does about the people who believe in forgiveness and redemption.

And for all you idiots who want to marginalize what Vick did yesterday, Hating is bad for your heart, and this man is going to continue to break your hating hearts. He was out of football and on lockdown for two full seasons. You may despise what he did, but to pretend like he hasn’t paid a steep price for his actions is disingenuous at best, and more likely just outright racial animus. The Falcons organization suffered from his actions as well, no one is denying that, but in reality it was only one bad year. The Falcons organization has done a lot of suffering so it should be used to it by now.

Vick obviously needed some time to get back into football shape, and so we are beginning to see more of him and will see even more as the Eagles go into the playoffs. Andy Reid gets a lot of props for putting MV7 in a position to get back to his former self. Yesterday, Vick got maybe seven snaps yesterday, did exactly what you should expect of him, and outperformed the Falcons full game offense.

Here’s what you now know about what Michael Vick can still do. The ability to pick up positive yards whenever he has the ball, Check. The ability to make defenses overcompensate to deal with him, Check. The ability to escape the pocket and make plays on his own, Check. The ability to throw the ball on a line 45 yards in the air with a flick of his wrist, Check. The ability to find an open receiver (something he was vilified for not being able to do when he was a Falcon), Check. The ability to draw the entire defense to one side of the field and then throw back to the other side on a rope with some accuracy, Check. The ability to put points on the board, Check. The ability to move a crowd and galvanize his teammates, Check and Check.

Keep on hating. Keep on pretending that because he doesn’t play the game like Peyton, Brady, or Brees, he is a failure at QB. The man has more upside potential than anything the Falcons have at QB. Vick will get a chance to compete for, and likely win a starting job next year. I for one have no problem saying I really wish it could be with my beloved Falcons, but I figure ownership and management doesn’t have the balls to do it, even after being shown on yesterday that the fans are willing to forgive and forget, because they might then be perceived as having made a mistake by cutting him loose in the first place. And so the Vick conversation will never go away in Atlanta as long as he is playing and winning in the NFL. And especially while the Falcons continue to trot out an inferior product year after year.

If history is any indicator that could be a good long time haters, so keep that heart medicine handy.

Man, there are some true morons in this city. I’m surprised they are even intelligent enough to use a computer and type. If you like Vick, great, support him all you want. But the idiots who think he deserved to stick it to the Falcons because “he got done wrong by them”…wow. How exactly did the Falcons do MV wrong?

Let’s see, Arthur Blank and the Falcons made MV the highest paid player in the league, stuck by him through him doing any number of dumb things..ie…the herpes, airport..etc. Then he gets caught for dogfighting and lies to Arthur Blank’s face.

So the Falcons did him wrong by not paying him millions of dollars to sit in jail after he made very stupid decisions and lied to them about it…wow…I feel really badly for him…he did get screwed. Ohh, and to the people that say this was all a conspiracy to break a rich black guy, I’m pretty sure the reason he doesn’t have money now is that he squandered it by being an idiot…the Falcons didn’t get any money back from him.

Some role model, the sad thing is some of you morons probably wish Donovan McNabb would get hurt so Vick could play more…McNabb also being a black guy that’s a hell of a lot better role model than Vick could ever hope to be.

So yeah, cheer for Vick if ya like, but please don’t show how incredibly stupid and ignorant you are by trying to make out that the Falcons did him wrong. Ohh, and btw, I’m a white guy that loved Vick when he played for the Falcons, but he doesn’t anymore and that’s totally HIS fault.

Right now, Redmans career with this team is on the line.
He has got to be crisp and clean with each short pass.
He also needs to show more mobility to scramble for a 5 yd. gain
every now and then.

I know its a team sport , but the good quarterbacks can make

If Vick would have finished the game, I am quite sure he could have

Faced with a similar situation, Bud Adams stood up and did the right thing and inserted a winner at the QB position. Blank has a similar opportunity before him, but does he have the balls to do what’s necessary?

Override the Coaches and GM and start DJ Shockley – he’s our only hope – he’s the only one with the raw talent to go out there and win an NFL game. We’ve seen what Redman can do, no reason to think Charlie Parker Wilson can do better.

Its not that I ever had anything against Vick…..until he gave me no choice but to dislike him. It has nothing to do with race or how he plays the position. And the fact that these tools in the stands on Sunday still support him…says tons about their priorities and standards.

“Have you been hit in the head? You used to make sensible posts. I have lost any respect I had for you…cheering against the Falcons. Cheering for the enemy after he singlehandedly deep sixed this organization because of his immature, selfish, bad behavior. You have zero credibility yourself. Shameful you are.”

I hate to disappoint you, but I don’t post on any of these blogs to gain friends or respect or credibility. I post my opinion, and if people happen to agree with me, great. Like I said in my earlier post, I wish both teams had been healthy and this was a more competitive game. It gave me no pleasure to see the Falcons lose. Pulling for Vick and pulling for the Eagles are two entirely different things. It would have been completely possible for Vick to have a successful homecoming and the Falcons to pull off a victory at the same time if both teams had been healthy. As it was, the Falcons were decimated by injuries and were getting whipped in every aspect of the game even before Vick started making a significant impact.

If I misled you into giving me respect and credibility with my earlier posts, I sincerely apologize.

Where are all those fans who are so relieved that Vick is gone? Why do we continue to have sellouts by sponsors and not warm bodies? All the fans that hate Vick so much could have filled the dome in support of the new team! No. They hide away in front of computers and watch on T.V. Support your team and your new QB. If the dome was sold out from the beginning, then the Philly and Vick supporters couldn’t invade the dome! Watch what happens next Sunday. It’s gonna be “Who Dat” all over the place. You want to support the new direction? Fill the stands. If not, shut up and bring Vick back. You’ll have a bunch of controversy, but I bet you’ll have a full dome.

Honestly read the bible. How can you the Most High forgive you if you cannot forgive a man for his transgressions. New World Order is on the way. Do not worry about race. Get right with the Most High. At the end of the day, Matt Ryan or Mike Vick still get a pay check at the end of the week.

I’m an Atlanta Falcon fan and have been since Steve Bartkowski was playing and I know that he wasn’t a good quarterback, but when Michael Vick came to the team it was an eye opener and he was phenomenal and still is. When you’re blessed as Michael Vick is, no one can keep you down. God instilled that in him. This man has paid his price for his wrong doings and it is time to forgive and move on because he has. God has given each and everyone of us many chances after all the mistakes, sins and wrong doings that we have done in life. Who are we to judge? The haters for Michael Vick need to let it go and grow up. Life is too short for this pettiness. This was a great game and I enjoyed it to the end and I’m glad that Michael Vick still has it and he is still an exceptional quarterback. I support him and I will always love my number “7″ jersey where ever he goes. Let’s just face it, Michael Vick will always be loved here in Atlanta and I wish that he could have stayed here, but that’s another story about giving someone who did wrong a second chance. Michael Vick, keep the faith and continue to put God first as always and never give up because “It’s not over until God’s says it’s over. Be blessed and much success. Continue to be strong and my prayers are with you and your family.

Hey Precious…Mike Vick could have stayed here with the Falcons if he hadn’t fought dogs, lied to his boss about it, and then gone to jail. I LOVE how the Mike Vick apologists try to make out like the Falcons did something wrong here. If any of you morons have a job…see if you can lie to your boss or go to jail and keep your job…I’m guessing not.

Of course on this blog it’s pretty much the same as many things in this city to do with race…if you don’t cheer for Mike Vick anymore even though he plays for another team, even if you wish him no ill, you’re a hater or racist…or un-Christian.

To those who think Vick was a victim:

What is so ludicrous about that argument…that he was a victim of race…is that as a star in the NFL and a very rich man…he was a person of priviledge and power. The fact is most blacks and whites will never see the type of deference paid to MV. He had EVERYTHING. He had already escaped run ins with the law before the federal indictments.

This was a guy who had chances to change. He lied to his team, his fans, and federal investigators.
If he had simply told the truth in the beginning, he would have avoided all of this.
He wanted to protect the thuggish life he had built for himself.
Vick’s prison term was justified. Why? Because he plead to charges seeking a reduced sentence.
His “homies” sold him out. The evidence was overwhelmingly against him.
He CHOOSE to be in the situation he was in.
It was NOT ABOUT RACE.

As a powerful and rich star, he could have cicumvented all of it…had he cleaned up his act early enough. He could have avoided it had he just came clean when the investigation began.
Vick was treated as ALL atheletes of any stature are treated in this country.
He was given deference and opportunities that most blacks and whites, for that matter, never receive.
There was NO EXCUSE for what he did.
Race certainly isn’t an excuse.

Why do so many want to keep casting him as a poor victim?
Because they want to identify with powerful people.
Sadly, instead of standing up for what is right and good…they support a guy who hurt a lot of people in this city…blacks and whites.
They support someone whose behaivor put the Falcons and this city’s football fans into a financial hole that keeps us from improving the team.
Then they encourage him in his return to grab the knife he put in our collective backs and then twist it.

Shameful.

Let’s be real for all the idiots. The ONLY reason Mike Vick isn’t still playing in this city for the Falcons is Mike Vick. The Falcons or “the man” didn’t force him to fight dogs…which whether you think is a bad thing or not is against the law. Noone forced him to lie to his bosses when the charges surfaced. Noone forced him to give most of his money to his buddies and bad financial advisors. Whether you think he got more of a sentence than his crime called for..he broke the law…and it was the federal government, not Arthur Blank or the Falcons that put him in jail.

I’d really like for any of the “Vick got screwed by the Falcons” people to tell me a job where they could lie to their boss and go to jail and keep it.

More facts, Vick did his time. Does that mean he deserves another chance…sure..if someone is willing to give it to him which the Eagles did. That sure as hell doesn’t mean that the same organization he lied to should or even could give him one. The old saying “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me” comes into play here. Arthur Blank didn’t make his billions giving second chances to people that lied to him..and nor should he or anyone else be expected to.

Mike Vick couldn’t hold Steve Bartkowski’s jock strap as a QB.

@Everyone else: As a native Atlantan I never thought I would think this, but its time to move the Falcon’s stadium to the northern suburbs where a true fan base can be developed and the thug atmosphere can be eliminated so folks can take their kids to the game again. Its obvious that the south of I-20 crowd doesn’t care about the team….only “supastars” whether they play for us or not. What happened yesterday in the ThugDome has never happened in the NFL and makes Atlanta the laughing stock of the league. And let’s not sugar it up here…it was a black/white issue. I am truly embarassed to have read some of these posts today. Football is a game loved by me and others but people its a game. The racial divide that has been exposed by MV7 has shown up here on the blog today and yesterday during the game. The racism in ATL did not start when we drafted MV7 it has been in Georgia for years…. It’s too bad a QB that no longer plays for this team could bring out so much emotion. I thought the United States was a country of forgiveness or does that not apply to people of color??? Everyone knows what MV7 did was wrong and the guy served a prison sentence because of it. MV7 has served the time handed down by our courts, now its time to let the guy rebuild his life. I’m sorry our team could not at least let him finish out his contract as a back-up but I can understand why not. MV7 is gone and I wish him the best and I’m sorry it had to climax against our team at home.
Matt Ryan is now our QB whether we like it or not. I just wish Ryan would have made some waves saying he was going to at least try and play with the turf-toe. Stafford played with the separated shoulder and had it re-injured during the next game but he tried to play. RB CJ Spiller from Clemson has had turf toe all year but played in an important game for his team (ACC Championship) and put up amazing numbers (233yds). This is one reason why people have not fully re-embraced the Falcons after the loss of MV7. Many of us do not believe Ryan does not bring the toughness & playmaking ability that Vick had shown while he was the QB in Atlanta. Good Job Vick!!!!! Falcons are already looking to next year, wow what a year!

Dont get mad because the Falcons team has NO HEART and allowed the Eagles to say (per Sheldon Bron)”Lets win this one for Mike” and MEAN IT….basically, the Eagles came in and took the Dome and sat Mike Vick back on his throne….while the Falcons team looked on like lil beyotches. The “real Falcons fans”…all 20,000 of them, left because they’re weaker than the team is which meant you had 2/3rds Eagles fans and Vick fans in the building..OWNING THE PLACE.

Didn’t it make you feel sick to your stomach. Didn’t it make you feel unappreciated? Why don’t one of you or all of you call out these so-called Falcon fans for what they really are, the worst football fans in the land? Personally, I was EMBARRASSED with the fans calling out of “We want Vick.” Granted, Mike got shafted. His penalty was WAS more severe than his crime…..especially when you consider than another moderate level name receiver just got a few months in jail shortly after Vick’s conviction for vehicular manslaughter. BUT…..PEOPLE! This is our TEAM that was out there loosing horribly with a severely depleted offense on Sunday! And these people are cheering and asking for the QB on the OPPOSING team???!!!! I was embarrassed watching (and listening to it). I mean, Mike’s actions put our team in desperate reaches, and if nothing else is true, we found out that he is a liar and not worthy of the respect and admiration that the whole country gave him. After watching the reaction of the people of the GA dome Sunday for Mike when our team was loosing, I can honestly say that I was embarrassed for the first time to be a Falcon fan. And that encludes all the years of Chris Miller and Jeff George. The people at that game showed just how much there are behind this team right now. And most importantly…..how do you build a winning team when the people in the stands are the biggest losers? The folks in the stands Sunday proved that they are the ultimate losers. Like I said, I’m embarrassed beyond words……

Vick could have submitted to a trial of his peers. He didn’t. He pled guilty and ACCEPTED a sentence.

And another thing…any time you violate the law…you are at the mercy of a judge and sometimes, a jury when you get caught.
He violated the law.
He put himself in that position.
He put his fate in the hands of others.
He is not a victim.

That was a great post.
I’m sick of the widely accepted myth that blacks cannot be considered racists.
There are systemic issues that have limited opportunity for blacks.
No question about it
Racial discrimination still happens.
However, this does not mean that blacks do not practice racial discrimination.
It does not give them a moral pass either.
The behavior of some blacks regarding Vick is immoral.
They act as if violating the law, in this case funding a barbaric, abusive and illegal act, is somehow ok because they don’t agree with the law.
They cry that Vick is a victim when in reality, he knew what he was doing and he signed off on a plea bargain to avoid trial by peers.
To hope he does well now in the NFL, I have no problem with that.
To say he was “shafted” or “racially victimized” is immoral.

Only One Post:

No one called you or blacks barbaric.
What Mike Vick did was barbaric. I quote:
“The behavior of some blacks regarding Vick is immoral.
They act as if violating the law, in this case funding a barbaric, abusive and illegal act, is somehow ok because they don’t agree with the law.”
To suggest that VICK is a victim of race after he committed a barbaric act is immoral.
To support immorality is immoral.
As for the “you people” comment you made…you just proved my point. Blacks can indeed be racist.
I didn’t commit any of atrocities you name…nor has father or his father before him…yet I pay the price for those who did.
And you were not the victim of any of those atrocities either.
In fact, your salary suggests how far we’ve come on matters of race.
Race mongering when no racism has occurred only cheapens the civil rights movement and the gains that have been made.
It also perpetuates the racism that does occur by breeding resentment and animosity between the races.
Racism does still occur in this country…both black and white racism.
Mike Vick is not a victim of racism.
If you had read my post…you would have gotten all this.
Again, race mongering does nothing but bring us all down.

Wow, the racist are out in full force in this blog. Black, white…who gives a damn, this shouldn’t be about color, but that’s why the whole Vick argument has lingered. Idiots using it as smokescreen to express their true feelings. Whether you think Vick has been punished enough, as I do, or you think he should be continuously punished for his crime should not be based on his skin color, but rather on your own personal and moral beliefs. How about this? All the racist whites go back to England, Ireland, Russia or wherever the hell you come from, all the racist blacks head back to Africa and let the the people with common sense and human decency make America a better place. I said only one post, I promise this is it. Confused why do you assume that something was given to me because I am black. I did receive any loans, grants or anything. I worked hard to get where I am, I remember days I worked 18+ hours, maybe some blacks received these gifts that you speak of, I don’t know, but I promise not me. In life success is truly not about your skin color, it is about the person inside of the skin. If you belive that you cannot get help, then guest what you want. It has nothing to do with you being white, I have plenty white friends that I have witnessed receive loans and grants to start business or go to school. Nothing is given to anyone, successful people don’t make excuses about what they don’t get nor do they look for handouts…we give them. Dale Carnegie once said “if you believe you can acheive”. I wish you success on putting your son through college. Have to go, wife really upset.

The funny thing about Mike Vick in this city is how he’s the Great Black Hope. I understand pulling for guys that seem to come from the same background as you…but why MV? Why not Jerious Norwood, Roddy White, or whoever? They don’t deserve to make a living like you guys swear Mike Vick deserves to? You want them to lose because they are not Mike Vick when most are probably better guys than he is? Explain how you can pick and choose?

On the subject of FOOTBALL,,,,yeah, it was pretty bad; I actually had a feeling it was over in the first offensive series, when Redman missed two open receivers…..I think we know know that Redman might be able to get us by weaker teams, but is pretty helpless against teams which can bring defensive pressure….
….It was also clear that the Eagles were well-coached to take advantage of the Falcons shortcomings on both offense & defense…..I’d sure like to see something original from our staff, but it’s hard to tell whether they are held back by a lack of talent (thus the ‘bend-but-don’t-break’ stuff on defense), or whether they just don’t have the chops……I’m getting a little tired of watching the defense slowly bleed to death on long drives, with the corners and linebackers playing 10 yards off, allowing easy completions and then sometimes making the tackle…..perhaps it’s time to just let them attack, and if the other team hits a big one, too bad…..at least we’ll find out who can reallly play and who can’t…..
…..However, when I looked around the league and saw the Steelers lose at home to the Raiders (with some positively Falcon-esque secondary play); the Redskins absolutely snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against the Saints (remember how sad we were when the Skins grabbed Leron Landry ahead of us in the draft a few years ago ? Even Jamaal looks good by comparison now); and the Cards spank the Vikes, I don’t feel quite so bad…..
…Finally, on the OTHER stuff….the thing I’ll remember is Arthur Blank greeting MV on the field….This the man who gave him the lifetime contract, supported him through all his problems and the was repaid with horrific criminal acts, which he then tried to lie his way out of………Despite the public humiliation, Blank still supported Vick throughout his confinement and still remains supportive, despite yesterday’s outcome….now that’s CLASS

Regarding the ex-Falcons, it’s fairly obvious…..the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles are better teams than the Falcons, in in the case of Brooking and Boley, they have considerably less responsibility and much better players around them. As far as MV, it seems silly to even consider what would happen if he was ’still here’; I can’t think of many places you can commit criminal acts, lie to your boss (and the Feds) about it, spend two years in jail and come back to your old job……Good luck to him in the future, but I can’t understand why everyone can’t just close that book and move on.

Wow. Lets look at from this perspective. Mat Ryan is a pretty good 2nd year quarterback that has hit a low point. Vick is a media asset and ATL icon for the success he brought the team with the excitement and flare rather than pure quarterback skills. This issues is black people mostly is the way Vick was treated by the Ownership. Yes Vick did wrong, but hey, he paid the price.

I see all these “good church folk” (mostly white) saying, down with Vick, this and that, but what about the forgiveness part of life. No one has a perfect life or has never done anything wrong. No one! Not to mention how the Falcons did DJ Shockley. Seems the new coach never really wanted him there anyway. Now the ghost of dumb a$$ moves has come back to haunt. I adore the falcons but I was pulling more so for Vick. Why? Simple, we all deserve a second chance to correct our errors if possible and to right wrongs when we can. For those of you who can’t get with that. Enjoy your decention to the world of being told “no” at the gates of pearls due to something at one time in your life you did wrong! Go Falcons, Go Vick!

I have always liked Vick. I think he is a great athlete. He may not have all the speed he once had, but he is still electric. In his last season with the Falcons he showed a lack of leadership. Anyway, the Falcons looked bad Sunday. They lost the game, the Eagles just took advantage. I did get a laugh at the thug sign held up by a young black woman, “Atlanta Love Vick”. If you’re going to hold up a sign on national TV, you should really ensure your grammar is correct (”Atlanta Loves Vick”.)

I wish Michael Vick all the best, but if he’s playin against my home team he’s the enemy. Got nothin to do with the color of his skin. He’s on the opposing team. The Falcons haven’t had a true franchise quarterback since Steve Bartkowski. If he would have had an offensive line and Roddy White and Tony G with Michael Turner Atlanta would have a superbowl victory. I really thought this was a football blog. At least we have a winning team that plays on ice. Maybe some of you football fans could come out and support the Thrashers. It is a full contact sport.

Were were the protesters then. Please. It’s ok for him to be forgiven, but not Vick. Please. It was more people yelling in the dome for Vick then booing him. Mrs. Davis,

Vick will not return to Atlanta. He has lost a step and the Falcons have a better future with Ryan as QB. Ryan is going through a slump that all young QBs go through. Vick had success early because of his running ability, not his QB prowess. Once the defenses had time to adjust, he wasn’t as successful. I understand why some want Vick to return. He was a great uniter for Falcon fans and I was one of them. However, he messed up and the Falcons had to go forward. I hope he finds a team that will take him as their QB and I also hope that he has matured into a leader.

Kinda have to agree with PMC, it’s not a warm reception for Vick that’s as galling as comparing said reception to booing Glavine everytime he returned (gee, I guess that WS ring & all of those playoff appearances didn’t mean much). Then again, that’s not to say Atlanta football and baseball fans are automatically the same breed.

Let’s face it, Atlanta isn’t quite ready for prime-time yet & Philly’s a battle-hardened franchise. The birds are getting a sophomore wakeup call in ‘09: the league’s not sleeping on you anymore. Plus the team doesn’t yet have the depth to deal with its injuries (say what you will about Philly, they’re deeper than most). How many teams could replace a Michael Turner once they lost him?

Vick’s TDs were a little salt in the wound, but really, the team was whipped before Vick stepped on the field. And if Vick had been in a Falcons jersey, they still would have lost (but boy, oh boy, it would have been much much closer and 1000% less embarrassing than Redman’s dreadful performance. EEEECHHHH!).

In 3-5 years, Atlanta will likely be better than Philly, but they’re not quite there yet. As for Vick, power to him that he was able to land on a better team in the short term. Despite a reduced role, who knows? Maybe he’ll have a big play or two that will help win a big late-season or playoff game. Time will tell.

And echoing everyone else, geez Mrs. Davis, get your facts straight about Dany Heatley! If you’ve never attended a NHL game and don’t know the Blue Jackets from a leather jacket, don’t even enter that conversation!

As soon as Blank moves the Falcons…

The Jaguars will probably move up to Atlanta..

Plus, Blank would have need tax dollars to build the new retractable-roof dome.

The Atlanta Sports Board is strong, and has been since The Olympics.

There will be two domes in Atlanta, and (2 – 3) Bowl games (including The Chick-Fil-A Bowl)..

Gwinnett doesn’t want the hassle, traffic, or the taxes. It won’t ever happen.

Blank would have to pay for most of it privately, and he (reportedly) is not able to. In addition, he would have to pay Atlanta for the rest of the contract for The Ga Dome.

The City already re-negotiated the current renovation deal with Blank and The Falcons for the rest of the lease on The GA Dome. I’m sure that they gave him more power and revenue after the new deal was finalized.

Of course, last year he (reportedly was looking for places for a new Dome/Stadium) but you won’t hear or see much talk after The Falcons begin to lose again. Winning = Public Leverage, people! Gwinnett did not even outbid for The Braves when they were hot!

All of the Hotels are In Atlanta for the media, Mass Transit (Trains not Buses), Buckhead..

For all that is said about Atlanta, the state and its residents would stand the chance of getting another Super Bowl, or National Championship Game in a new Retractable Roof Dome within Atlanta.

The weather is so un-predictable that I doubt it. It could be 70+ degrees in January, or 28 degrees (+ freezing rain/sleet).

That is why this new dome must have a retractable-roof, and grass field.

Falcons Hero Zero

December 8th, 2009
11:27 am

Without a state-run Mass Transit system, a new Dome in Gwinnett would cause a traffic surge over the top of the perimeter.

Land would be purchased for development near the new Dome for Hotels, Plaza Malls, and Entertainment that would lead to more revenue for the county, but more growth than the citizens probably care for..

Developers building residences and Plazas never this new Dome would cause a traffic nightmare.

In Atlanta, traffic is expected, and there would be no need for a lot of rapid development to entertain a lot of visitors, reporters, and celebrities.

I have to disagree with the you, Dr. Orlando. MV will not make life miserable for the Falcons franchise. MV is trying to move forward with his life. Every franchise out here is trying to make it to the Super Bowl. Players are traded to other teams all the time. The Falcons were never able to build a team around MV so he became the face of the ATL. Is that his fault? I think not. MV is only doing what he is gifted to do, like him or not. MV will move on, the question is will the Falcons? Stop looking at it in terms of black and white, look at it like most teams, win or lose. The Saints are coming to town with their 12-0 record. Vick was given MULTIPLE opportunities to come clean and tell the truth.
He flipped off management. They didn’t abandon him.
He flipped off the commissioner.
He ignored every attempt to help him avoid what was coming.
Ray Lewis was a TOTALLY different scenario.
Vick was self destructing.

I just wish the bitter Vick fans in Atlanta would move on too.
Many of us are sick of hearing about Vick.
We are sick of the constant harping about him…
Sick of the revisionist history…
Sick of attacks on the Falcons because Vick doesn’t play on the team.
I sure hope that now, after Vick’s “triumphant” return…after he has now twisted the knife he put in the team and fans backs…that now fanatical Vick fans can be happy to follow his career with another team and let the rest of us move on.
We’ve heard about Vick during the Petrino season.
We’ve heard about Vick during the playoff run of last season.
We’ve heard about Vick all of this season.

a) I definitely support Jimmy’s comments that it’s been three years, time to move on. He’s not coming back, folks, sorry.

b) FalconFred, you’re comparing apples to oranges. Ray Lewis, to the best of my recollection, was not sentenced to a day of jail time. Vick was. Lewis was extraordinarily talented but his playing style was not such that if you lost him, you had to change the entire scheme of your defense. Vick, on the other hand, has a specific playing style is a rarer QB in terms of how his game works (how many left-handed run first, pass second QBs do you know of?).

Had they hung on to him while he served his time, they would have a) wasted valuable money on a guy not playing for two years while telling every single QB that played for the team from ‘07-’08- “listen, it doesn’t matter how good you play, you’re just a placeholder for the guy in jail,” b) had to either develop a different offense for two years that they would instantly abandon when Vick returned or keep running the same offense for QBs that weren’t built for it.

I think someone earlier in this thread made a great analogy about how this like the husband cheating on the wife, the wife divorcing the husband and blaming it on the wife.

Bullish-On-The-Falcons, you have made the best analogy possible to describe the situation on Sunday: “That’s like a situation where a husband cheats on a wife, then actually cheering the husband on to get back at the wife because she divorced him over his poor choices.” I loved MV7 when he was a Falcon and I still care about him as a person and wish him well. Isn’t it funny how all the white folks on here are MAD AS HELL that nobody respects their sorry ass falcons. They are mad that Vick came home and esposed their sorry ass quiting football team for what they truly are, LOSERS. Mighty funny how they weren’t saying Vick destroyed this franchise when they were going to the playoffs last year. Now that EVERYBODY knows that the falcons are a team of LOSERS, they want to blame Vick. The white folks want to use revisionist history when it suits them, but when it goes against their argument they simply say, lets move on.

You see, people can’t get mad at others because of who they support or want to cheer for. That is pettiness at its highest level. If you want to support the falcons, fine. But don’t criticize me because I would rather support a winner instead of a Loser. The falcons have been in Atlanta for over 30 plus years and they have NEVER CONTINUOUSLY PUT A WINNING PRODUCT ON THE FIELD. Thats not because of some stupid ass reason like, ‘the fans won’t support us’ crap. Nobody has ever stood behind a Loser consistantly. And truth be told, Michael Vick lost pretty much all the white support in Atlanta when Author Blank rolled him out in a wheelchair. I couldn’t believe majority of the white people in Atlanta reaction after that episode.

Funny how in Atlanta, the black athletes are scrutinized a hell of a lot more than the white ones. If you don’t think so, just think back in the history of Atlanta sports and try to be rational if you can let yourself be.

Funny how all the black ones get run out of town only to come back and get their revenge.

Boy, ITS A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO BE A VICK FANATIC AND A BUMMER OF A DAY TO BE A LOSING ASS FALCON FAN.

losers make excuses
winners take resposibility

December 8th, 2009

Atlanta is a city of transient people so there is little surprise that when visiting teams come to the GA Dome there is always a large group of fans cheering the other team. The problem that I have is that the people who are Falcons fans don’t even make noise until it is 3rd down. Where is all that energy and excitement during the entire game.

Granted the team stunk up the field on Sunday against the Eagles but even in games earlier in the year, the crowd was almost a non-factor. There is more crowd noise in most outdoor NFL stadiums than you hear at the dome.

First off I want to point out this fool crabapplejoe said that Vick couldn’t hold S. Bartkowski’s jock strap???? Man I’m not sure who that is (S.Bartkowski) and you tellin me Vick can’t hold is jock strap. Just please don’t talk about this bum when referring to Mike Vick cause you and I both know that this guy would never get the kind of standing ovation that MV7 received sunday!!! Secondly, Many times on this blog people talk about Mike Vick and his character issues off the field and how if he got fired from a regular job he wouldn’t get his job back. You bring up the trick water bottle, herpes, and fliping the fans off. I guess somehow people feel like Mike Vick has to gain their approval by his pesonal life in order to play in this league and to be successful. You ignorant fools he don’t give a crap if don’t like him cause it’s so many others that do; this league is about making money!!! Yall act like he flipped off all his fans? If some individual was talking crazy to me I would have did more than just flipped him off. People say he robbed this city??? Do you think he signed up to go to jail? Do you think he wanted to loose his contract? Do you think he wanted A. Blank to say he couldn’t play for the falcons no more? I don’t give a crap what goes on in Mike Vick’s personal life (Itz his life stupid) I just love to see the man play, I didn’t know that these athletes had to be good samaritans to be good football players. I hate what Mike Vick did but, I don’t agree with his punishment it’s so much worst going on in this world(killing humans, abortion, drugs on every corner, and God’s law being mocked)

Just a thought to add to my post would yall give a crap if he was a good samaritan and couldn’t play a lick my survey says no cause you wouldn’t even know the guy let’s be real the only reason we talk about MV7 is because he’s so good we can’t help it. I wanted to list an example of someone who is sorry in this league but is a real stand up guy but I can’t because I don’t care and you guys don’t either people have prefrence, Tom Brady denied his child and was with another woman before the peternity test results came in, but guess what I don’t care and his fans don’t care cause they love what he does on the field. You might bring up P. Manning and say he has never done anything wrong(to our knowledge) and he is a great football player but that’s just it you only care because he is a great football player!!!!

Andy Reid played his cards perfectly Sunday. He’s been negotiating a new contract so he put the beat down on the Falcons AND helped improve Vick’s trade value from zero to at least a #3 pick. With Eagles in the thick of playoffs positioning he won’t trust Vick in close games plus why jeopardize trade value?

Shad,
When someone is violating the law…it is not part of his “personal” life.
We live in a society of laws that when broken, puts you under the scrutiny and at the mercy of your fellow citizens (if caught).
Vick’s water bottle incident would have personal if it hadn’t at one time contained marijuanna.
Marijuanna is a controlled substance UNDER THE LAW.
At that point…this became a public matter.

On Vick flipping off those harassing fans…
Vick is a PUBLIC FIGURE.
He was on one of the largest stages there is in this country.
When he flipped off one or two fans on that stage
he did it for everyone there to see.
If the guy next to me curses that is wrong and I will report him to security.
I certainly don’t want Vick responding in a vulgar or obscene way in front of my children.
You got that…when he flipped off some jerk he also flipped off my children because they saw it.
That was not the appropriate venue for such behaivor.
I can’t report Vick to security and have him removed can I?
As a public figure who makes his living off fans…including the jerks…he must accept criticism.

The herpes deal…I agree that should be off limits.
But then that darn, “public figure” bug bites him again.
Again, such stories go with the territory.

On his punishment…he entered a plea bargain.
Do you know what that means?
He accepted punishment rather than go before a jury of his peers.
Why?
Because his friends betrayed him and the evidence was overwhelming against him.
Also…he lied about his involvement.
So Vick’s punishment was his own fault.
We have laws against people running illegal gambling organizations because they are a haven for organized crime.
Vick was involved in illegal gambling operation across state lines and pled for a lesser charge.
So he was not harshly treated.
He actually got off easy when considering the full extent of charges and possible sentences he could have gotten if convicted..

I do agree…this league IS about MAKING MONEY.
Vick’s choices threatened the league’s revenue.
Vick did indeed rob the city…
He robbed us of one of the most exciting players to come along in a long time…
He robbed the team of a a whole season (The petrino debacle)
He robbed the fans of the joy being excited for our team.

I wish things were different…I wish Vick had made better choices.
But he didn’t.
And now the fans are reduced to aruging on blogs as yet another season tanks.
And Mike Vick, the poor victim, came back Sunday and twisted the knife he plunged into our collective backs.

Jimmy

December 8th, 2009
7:50 pm

One other thing,

I don’t wish Vick ill.
He has paid his debt.
I just get sick of hearing people suggest he was a victim.
He was not.
He was one of the most highly paid people in this country.
As an athelete, he got more deference and perks in one year that most of us will see in a lifetime.
When he chose to slap all the hands of aid that were extended to him before all this went public…
he made his own bed.
I root for him everywhere he goes (but Atlanta).
But I won’t let people suggest that he was shafted and the victim of racism or some other slight.
That is simply not true.
If his fans could stipulate to that…
Then I think the majority of fans can come together over his talent and his exciting play.

Of course there are some exceptions to that. For me its simple. If you are a Falcons Fan, you would NEVER cheer for an opponent to score…regardless who the player or team is.

I agree would never happen in Philly. You guys have sports passion. I would think another “fan” would take a stand if a person wearing Eagles jersey or hat did such a thing. I’d pretty much bet on it.

Vick State of Mind

December 8th, 2009
8:56 pm

Mrs. Davis I have to agree with most of the posters. You make Vick fans look bad. I think what everyone is trying to say is that we loved Mike Vick, but it is because of people like you that he had to go. You, Mrs. Davis kicked Vick off this football team, because no matter what may have happened in the future, we would have to worry about people like you trying to start QB battles every week. Management knew this, and so they had to get rid of Vick for the better of the team. I love Mike Vick and I still wear his jersey proudly. I DO NOT agree with the people who say he doesn’t deserve a second chance for something he did so long ago. He paid his debt, he is back in the NFL, good for him. Danny Heatley messed up too for the Thrashers and they got rid of him too. The NFL is a business and the owners want to win, they could give a rat’s azz about black and white. This city is like no other where Mike Vick comes in and the fact is if he didn’t mess up he would still be here. I am a black man, by the way and I do very well for myself. But it is embarrassing to be grouped with ignorant blacks who want to play the race card and say things like the Falcons got what they deserved. What? Really? You can say that with a straight face? So we were supposed to wait for Vick for TWO years and not draft a QB? Matt Ryan by the way has been given a bad rap by Atlanta fans since he got here. Is it his fault Vick messed up and got cut? NO! He is trying to win just like ownership is, but Vick fans never give him a chance. Imagine how good Ryan could be if he had a little love from the fans? Even with his slump this year he has put up numbers that most QB’s could even dream of, and yes that includes Flacco. I could talk about this for days, but the only thing ignorant Falcon fans deserve is for the streak to continue on back to back winning seasons because nobody here cares about winning….

Vick State of Mind

@ Boss– I’ve seen people get their azz kicked for doing things like that in Philly. Atlanta fans do it to themselves, and that’s why we are the laughing stock of the league. We get mad when northerners talk about country people but it is true, we are kind of slow. We will catch up eventually.

I flew into Atlanta to watch my team the Falcons, yes, I wanted to see Vick and have him do well, but I wanted us to win. I think that the team played like it was the first time that they have ever suited up. I’ve lived in Md for 5 yrs and has still kept my season tickets because I am a life long falcon fan and I am a black man. I am flying in again this weekend to hopefully see us beat the HE!! out of the Saints. I read this blog to get info that I can’t get up here. Can we please let what happened this Sunday go and talk about what is going on and how can we kick the SH!T out of the Saints. We can lose the rest of the games, but lets just beat the Saints,

MD Falcon Fan I agree with you 100 percent. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only Falcon fan that want’s them to win. It seems like most of the fans want the Falcons to fall on their face because of one player, and it get frustrating sometimes. The only Falcon jersey I own is a Michael Vick jersey, and that is because I have a family of six and I have to spend my money on more important stuff. I got Vick’s jersey at a discount because of what happened to him. But I love Vick and I hope he gets on with a team and does well. I also can’t stand the Saints and I would love to be the team that brings them off their high horses. They have been getting so lucky these past few weeks. They should have at least 3 to 4 losses, but the other teams choke at the wrong time. Hopefully we can bring back most of our injured players and pull off the upset.

If we are to get beat, lets make them earn it and blitz the he!! out them. If Turner plays, I hope that we run the ball down their throat. If we had continued to run the ball in NO, we may have won that game.

Boss, thanks for the comment. I am a Falcon fan through and through. Mike Vick was my favorite player on the team, but this has been my worst week in a long time after that Falcon loss on Sunday. It is so hard to go to work and back the Falcons against all the haters, only to go to work Monday after a loss and eat crow. Tomorrow will be Wednesday and my co workers are still letting me have it. I guess I said all that to say this, if fans left the Dome smiling and happy because of what Vick did then I don’t even know what to say to you. It almost feels like that 8 mile movie when eminem beat that dudes azz for messing with his girl. He came back later that night with his posse and whooped up on eminem. Only after he was beat up did the dude come in and kick him in the stomach. I think his name was Wink. Ok, probably a bad analogy but you get my point, lol.

rick,
i want to give you something to think about: if you think it was bizarre to see atlanta fans cheering for vick and the eagles (thereby cheering against their home team), just imagine how african american solidiers felt coming back to this country fighting for america’s freedom only to be treated like second class citizens. that is BIZARRE!!! yes, i bring up the race issue because we as african americans have seen and continue to experience systematic racism (perhaps not as bad as in the 1600’s through 1960’s)but certainly not a system that is equitable even today. so when a black man such as vick has paid his dues to society and you continue to beat him down many of us feel it is our duty to stand up in support, just as this country has done with many of the so call founders of this country who enslaved and raped people of color whose only sin was being a person of color, yet there are status of honoring these founding thugs. again, that is BIZARRE!!! if you can honor persons such as this why should african americans not step in to support a man of color who has paid his dues to society. this country’s thuggery where people of color has impacted us in so many ways and yet so many of you want the oppressed to forget about it so that whites can move on with out addressing this issue.

Jimmy

December 9th, 2009

get over it:

You know, I need to correct a few misconceptions:

1. Vick has paid his dues and “you” keep beating him down…

The only reason anyone is talking about Vick is because “people” keep holding him up as a victim.
They keep talking about him, criticizing the current Falcons, because he was a victim of his race.
Most of us here are all for Vick making the best of his life. Just don’t suggest that he didn’t get what he deserved because he did. He had chances to stop the illegal stuff and he slapped the hands that reached out to help. He had the chance to tell the truth early in the investigation, thus earning lesser punishent…he slapped that hand of hope away. He pled for a lesser charge rather than face a jury of his peers. If the blacks who keep treating this situation as if they personally have been oppressed by the Falcons organization and the federal government…NO ONE WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT IT NOW.

2. Racism does exist. Yes, systemic racism does exist. It just isn’t the answer to every bit of bad luck and unlawful behavior black people experience. Personal responsibility does play a role in life.
I was an EEO officer for an 8000 employee organization. I have proven when my company committed racist acts and have proven when racism charges were unjustified. What I learned from the 8 years I did that was racism exists, but far too often, it is used as an excuse for not taking responsibility for one’s self. Every time I hear people whine about poor Vick, I think…man, I wish had had even a quarter of the opportunities that guy had. I’ve been given nothing because I’m white. In fact, I’ve been passed over for promotions in favor of diversity.

This brings me to the point I want to make. Racism is terrible. But so is any “ism” that discriminates based on looks. Who gets the best jobs in this country? Pretty people. If you go to an interview for a job and you and the other candidates are equally matched…the attractive person will get the job 99% of the time. The race doesn’t matter. If you are fortunate to get a degree from MIT, you will get jobs over equally matched candidates from lesser schools. If you can afford stylish clothes, you get the job over someone who dresses plainly. IN OTHER WORDS: no society is fair. Someone will always be the elite and someone always be the oppressed.

In this country, blacks have the opportunity now to rise above systemic racism. The mechanisms are in place. Yet young blacks are far too often criticized by their own community for being “white” when they seek an education. Cultural pressures keep many blacks down.

What we need now is for the rank and file blacks and whites to stop tearing each other apart and to become more sensitive to what we say and do. We need to let go of resentment…both the justified and especially the unjustified…so that we can truly be one people.

Race mongering…throwing up claims of “racism” when it is not an issue in the Vick situation, breeds resentment from whites who have been passed over for promotion in favor of black candidates (when these whites have never committed an act of racism in their lives). Constantly reminding us of things that happened in history becomes its own form of race mongering…it becomes an excuse for not taking personal responsibility.

My family history is not one of priviledge. Someone bearing my last name came to America in the 1600’s as an indentured servant and died as one too. There are gaps in my history because so many of my ancestors were dirt poor and were probably not registered at birth. I can track my ancestors back to the civil war. I am of Dutch, Irish and Cherokee descent. From my father all the way back to the civil war, my family was share croppers. They received barely enough compensation from the harvest to survive. In that long history my father was the first to break from it. He didn’t finish high school…nor did my mother. They married when she became pregnant with me. One thing they taught me was the value of an education. Though they never contributed a penny and I was ineligible for grants, I finished college by working my way through with loans.

All this happened for me while my black friends got money from the NAACP and government grants tied to race. I don’t resent this at all. I accepted long ago that this is necessary so that true justice and equality can have a chance. What I DO RESENT is the disgusting use of race for profit by some civil rights leaders who perpetuate the entitlement culture rather than the responsibility culture. They do it and too many blacks buy into it. They are being cheated by their own leaders. It makes me sick. I do resent when people trivialize black sacrifice and white sacrifice for justice and equality by using race where it does not apply. The Mike Vick situation has nothing to do with race. The bitterness of his fans does.

I pray that reason will begin to surface regarding the issue of race in this country. Perhaps if a few more whites and blacks will try to meet in the middle and try to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and misused of a worthy and necessary cause, we will finally beat this thing for our children.

get over it-
Once again, please READ my post. At no time am I suggesting racism AGAINST or FOR Vick is excused.
All I’m pointing out is that BOTH camps are using racism as their ally in their arguments.
In response to your analogy of great black Americans sacrificing all, and being treated as second class citizens on their return, it does them a great diservice to compare them to Vick’s situation. They were what we used to think of as “heroes”, and most definitely deserved much better treatment.
Vick, on the other hand, is an athlete- don’t confuse that with role model. Personally, I don’t care if you are red, black, white, whatever- you will not be held up as a role model to my children simply because you can throw a football better than most. Warrick Dunn is a role model- please tell me if I am wrong, and I’ll acknowledge it if so, but Vick couldn’t be bothered with trivial details like community service.

Now, having said that, go Falcons- pull a W out for a change!
