about the deal last Saturday.
“They guaranteed a good draft right away, before the draft actually started, by acquiring Tony Gonzalez,” NFL Network analyst Charles Davis said. “Then they could go defense. I think they were afraid and it turned out that their fears were well-founded that the guy that they wanted in the first round, which I thought all along was Brandon Pettigrew, would be gone. He went 20th to Detroit. I thought it was a tremendous start for them and then it just kept getting better.”
The Falcons had a first round dilemma. In the Michael Vick aftermath, they are not taking any chances on players with character issues. Because of that, they passed on cornerback Vontae Davis of Illinois. He had some discipline issues at Illinois and Pro Football Weekly compared him to DeAngelo Hall as a player who could bounce around and was not coachable at times.
But if Davis, the younger brother of San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis, matures and turns into a lockdown corner then the Falcons could be kicking themselves later.
The Falcons needed a cornerback. Who doesn’t need a lockdown cornerback. The cornerbacks they selected — Chris Owens and William Middleton — are not of the same level and Vontae Davis.
But Thomas Dimitroff and the personnel department are getting the benefit of the doubt for taking Jerry over Davis. About the only knock on Jerry is his durability.

“He just went one pick later to Miami,” Charles Davis said of Vontae. “I think they had to decide if Davis was a big time guy, it was a matter of who they had rated higher on their board. . . They went boom, Jerry. He’s higher rated that Vontae Davis.”
ESPN’s Mel Kiper doesn’t think the Falcons made a mistake by selecting Jerry over Davis.
Loading ...There is a major problem with “needs first” drafting verses “best player” available. They Falcons went with a “need” two years ago and took defensive end Jamaal Anderson with the No. 8 pick. Patrick Willis, the best linebacker in the draft, was sitting right there and went two picks later to San Francisco.
ESPN’S KIPER ON THE FALCONS DRAFT: “Peria Jerry was my most under-rated player all year. I had him in my top 25 and nobody else did at the time. People were saying ‘why do you have Peria Jerry so high.’ Peria Jerry made a ton of plays behind the line of scrimmage. He was one of the best pass rushers for a defensive tackle that I’ve seen over the last couple of years. . .
“He’s 6-2, 305 pounds. He beat centers and guards on the SEC level on a regular basis. He’s a battler. He works hard. He stays on his feet. I don’t know what you don’t like about Jerry. I didn’t think Atlanta would necessarily take him. I thought he could go a little earlier to Tampa or maybe to Indianapolis. . .
“I like the William Moore pick. I talked about him before the draft as being one of the guys who could go in the second round and be a steal. I like Christopher Owens. (Lawrence) Sidbury, I like. (William) Middleton has speed and size. I thought he was a good player at that level, but an average prospect. I like Garrett Reynolds, he’s a guy who can make it as a backup. (Spencer) Adkins could be a back up and special teamer. Vance Walker can make your team in a rotation. I gave it a B grade. You have a lot of guys that are going to make this football team and four or five that are going to be major contributors.”
NFL NETWORK’S CHARLES DAVIS ON THE FALCONS DRAFT: “They got an inside run stuffer in Jerry. William Moore is a guy that I really like. I know a lot of people had him sliding. They talked about him playing linebacker. . .
“This guy was hurt a lot as a senior. You can go back and ask them, off of his junior tape he was a top 20 pick in the draft. That’s how good he was. To me, it was a great gamble for them. Ultimately it could be a steal. . .
“Chris Owens at corner is a big help. (Video check: Sidbury is a nice pass rusher. I like a lot of their moves. Vance Walker in the seventh round can be a guy that could be a surprise and a steal.
Why is Walker such a steal?
“He’s a battler,” Davis said. “I had him down there at the Senior Bowl. I watched him go to work. I think in the seventh round it’s a great value pick.”
KIPER ON CLEMSON QB CULLEN HARPER (Sequoyah High): “I think in terms of Cullen Harper, you look (at him) overall and he had 14 interceptions and 13 touchdowns. He just wasn’t able to maintain that type of grade. When you look at him, he has the size. He has the arm. I think when you put him under the microscope his stock started to drop. . . With the unorthodox delivery, the slow delivery. . . The numbers dropped from where they were when he was a junior when he had 27 touchdowns and six interceptions. . . . I think that was the real reason why. But a lot of quarterbacks didn’t get drafted. A lot of quarterbacks were in that same realm. . . . It wasn’t a shocker that he didn’t get drafted.”
Mel Kiper thinks Aaron Kelly needs to start eating spinach and get stronger like Popeye.
KIPER ON CLEMSON WR AARON KELLY (Walton High): He caught a lot of passes. A tall angular kid. He didn’t always play to his level. . . Had speed, but didn’t always explode out of his cuts. Has straight line speed. To me, getting proper separation was an issue at times I thought. To me, you look at (North Carolina’s) Brooks Foster and he does 27 reps (lifting 225 pounds). (Kelly) did 11. . . He’ll be a nice free agent acquisition, but I thought he was a borderline draft choice. I have him a 6/5 grade. Which means he was a sixth round type of guy. A sixth round type of guy can be a free agent very easily.” Kelly, the ACC career receptions leader, signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Falcons.
MOCKING THE MOCK: My Dad, Albert D. Ledbetter Jr., is the official Mock draft scorer and I got 27 of the 32 first round picks, he said. l have to go back and get the direct hits (right player, right team). Falcons GM Rich McKay said anything over 25 is a passing grade. Also, we listed five players the Falcons could draft in Saturday’s editions and Jerry was in the Fab Five.
BUT AFTER THE DRAFT every year you have to listen to some Public Enemy. Because all of the hyped players will have to take the field soon for mini-camp and back up all of the good stuff folks are saying about them.

Great Article!!! I am one of those long time ATL Falcons fans that is impatiently waiting on the NFL season to begin. Only time will tell, but it appears, based on the players selected, that the defense will definitely be better than last year’s team. Even though the schedule will be tougher, I believe the team will again exceed the expectations of the sports analysts and the naysayers. GO FALCONS!!!!

Character and heart will always beat out “big name, me only players”. TD and Smith got rid of those kind of players in Atl and in return got an 11-5 record and the playoffs. Heck that’s only 4 wins less than the previous two years. GO FALCONS! KEEP CHARACTER AND HEART!

Two great consecutive draft from Dimitroff and Co. should equal back to back winning seasons and playoff. Best pick will turn out to be Sidbury, he has a great mentor to watch in number #55. Like Chuck Oliver said on the radio yesterday, Sidbury is a Drew Brees killer.

The clock is passe’ and as for character over capability, I’m all for it. You just have to realize that a united, focused locker room is more valuable than an immature lime-lighter. You see how well Adam Jones worked out for the Cowboys, right? The community will be better for it, the fans will be more supportive, and the team will work together on the field as a dedicated, unified machine. If the NFL adds a twelfth position of ‘whine-backer’ then we can start looking for some malcontents and me-before-we players. Until then…….keep on keeping on Smitty and Mr. D!

I’d suggest that we separate Tony and October at least Forty-eight hours before game time. I can see where a lady, like October, could sap a guy’s strength pretty quick.
As much as I liked Clay Matthews, I wasn’t the least bit disappointed when the Falcons selected Jerry. I didn’t think Peria would still be there at twenty-four. I predict a lot of teams will regret passing on him. As I look deeper into my crystal ball, I predict that Jamaal will really enjoy playing next him. I guarantee you Abraham enjoys having Babs as his little buddy.

Obviously no one bit at the Draft. Is there anything we can do with him, or should we just let him go?

Leroy Hill, everyone keeps screaming for us to sign him. Obviously we want players who fit our system. Is this a fit or just another pretty thought? Boley was fast and obviously the Giants thought he is worth a lot, but he didn’t fit our system either.. What do you think?

D-Led, I think it depends on the player and the problem or problems surrounding them. Take for instance Percy Harvin, all we heard from the experts is how explosive he is, basically Reggie Bush of the NFL, not Reggie Bush in college, he would be a great pick-up for a team in need of a playmaker. All of a sudden he tested positive for the happy stuff and then the experts start to bring up character issues. Vontae Davis on the other hand had an attitude problem, not only in his personal life but also on the gridiron, which made it rather difficult to coach the guy a la Deangelo Hall. For a young team like the Falcons its not worth the gamble, if you have a strong foundation in place you can take a chance because you surround a troubled individual with a strong supporting cast, look at Moss up in New England, goes from NFL bad boy to NFL saint, probably not a saint but you get my drift. As the Falcons continue to build a strong foundation, players like the examples above will become available and they will take a chance because not all of these players will turn into Matt Jones, some will be a Warren Sapp, and its in the best interest of your team to do whats best for the team but you start with individuals who believe in team first, once you have those individuals in place you can take a chance. Harvin appears to be a team guy, thats why after talking to Urban Meyer and his family Minnesota made him the 22nd pick. Davis could blossum into a shut-down corner but Miami took a chance because Bill Parcels has a history with dealing with tempermental players,Keyshawn,LT, T.O and others, the Falcons don’t have that foundation in place and they don’t have the personality type of people in charge that can handle these so-called characters but I believe they eventually will. Besides I’m happy with the guys the Falcons selected, pretty good players that were not gambled on, team first type of guys. Let’s face it, teams win championships, not the defense, not the offense, and most certainly not individuals, TEAM.

Loved our picks! Sidbury was a 2nd round pick in some mocks. Most of these players will be starters or big time contributors soon. Already looking at the early 2010 mocks! Hopefully, next years first round pick will be the 32nd pick of the draft. Go Birds!

I’m listening to some classic Richard Pryor as I talk here and one of his jokes is cracking me up as I look at the photo of October. I will not go into here out of respect but, it is Richard Pryor. Yep, I’m a bad man. LOL.
A great draft and I think the nucleas is in place to build something special. Enough wouda-shoulda-coulda. Let’s look forward. Even with what we have secured, TD is already thinking of ways to bring even more to the team. The man is relentless in his pursuit. The Falcons will be fine.

Great points on Davis, WR. I’m glad that we did not go that route. A quiet approach to building, using the CLEAN side of the Patriot way, is going to pay HUGE dividends in the long term.

Nice piece D-Led. At some point they will take the chance again on the marginal character player. Right now it’s just not safe. They can’t afford to have the type of situations on and off the field that have happened in the past couple of years. They had to dump a TE, a DB and a RB they really could have used last season. Those of us that follow this team know that if the Falcons had those three players last season it would have been a better offense and defense. I’m not saying they’re gun shy by no means. They’re just playing it down right now.

In two drafts, TD has remade the roster. Next years draft will now just fine tune the nucleus. Sidbury is a steal. He reminds me a little bit of Dwight Freeny. The offense will score points and a good pass rush will be the key to stopping teams that will hopefully be playing from behind. A push up the middle from Jerry and Babs with Abe, Bierman, and Sidbury coming of the edge… it could work out very well. With Anderson able to play every line position and Davis back the Falcons have a very deep and athletic front now. Which DE is going to be cut? We now have five…

Was just reviewing the free agent moves post draft. Some nice depth in there. Not being a homer, but I like the signing of Derek Nicholson from FSU. Speed and solid play at WLB while at FSU. I think he has a chance to grow and become a force. Lots of depth in the rotation.
Moorehead was released so it appears the Trey Lewis may be farther along that is being reported. And Walker is in the mix from a depth stand point.

Actually, the Falcons found two good ones in the post draft signings. LBs Brick Christopher and Derek Nicholson. They both played middle LB at in college but have the speed, skill set, and felixbility to move outside to SLB and WLB respectively. Easily could make the team as special teamers and develop, moving up the depth charts next season or in a couple of years. Great signings for a still suspect LB corps!!

What excites me most about our draft acquisistions isn’t the quality of talent as much as the fact we covered ourselves by getting exactly what we needed. In other words, we succeeded in drafting the best players available to us, talent and character wise, and still satisfied our needs.
(1) We’ve desperately needed a run stuffer that can also provide an inside pass rush. WE GOT THAT IN DT PJURRY.
(2) JAnderson is, and has been since his arrival, our pass rush and we’ve been living on the edge because of his injury problems. WITH LSIDBURY, WE NOW HAVE A POTENTIAL JABRAHAM TYPE PASS RUSHER TO FALL BACK ON IF ABRAHAM GOES DOWN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
(3) We now have 4 safeties, WMoore, TDeCoud, AHarris & JFudge, that are fast, quick and versatile enough to allow us to play any type of DEF and still cover the entire field. That will allow our CB’s to be much more aggressive than in the past.
(4) After losing starter DFoxworth to FA, and with 3 of our CB’s coming off IR, we needed more insurance and talent at the position. We didn’t get the top rated CB’s in this draft, but with a solid front 4 and a good pass rush, we won’t need the best.
Overall, we did very good. TE, DT, DE, LB and S were our positions of need. We got a Probowl TE that’s arguably the best ever. We got the best DT in the draft based on our needs. Both Jerry and Raji are run stuffers, but Jerry is a much better pass rusher, which we needed. So, that makes him the best DT in the draft based on our needs. We desperately needed an additional edge pass rusher to take the pressure off JAbraham. We also needed insurance in case of injury, and we got it.
WHEN YOU EVALUATE OUR DRAFT BASED ON TALENT AND VALUE, THEN ADD THE SATISFYING A NEED FACTOR, WE SHOULD GET AN A+. THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KEEP US FROM DUPLICATING OR EXCEEDING LAST YRS 11-5 WIN TOTAL WILL BE INJURIES, NOT THE SCHEDULE OR THE OPPOSITION. GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wr …. good post but I must disagree with one point. TD and Coach Smith are extremely cable of handling any troubled player that may land on their roster. What in their make-up suggests to you that troubled players would run over them. These are top pros and will put any Pac Man Jones type in their place in a NY minute.These are top administrators who fear no player or thier antics. Bill Parcells is not the only guy that has success with malcontents.

Character means a lot to a team. We do not need bad character players on this team who are disruptive in the community and to the team. These players wind up being “I” players and people and do not care about the “TEAM” but only themselves. They can cause a heart attack on the “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!” with their disruptive behavior. Our current stars are “we” stars not “I” stars. They appear to work together and cover for each other, on and off the field. They are involved in the community. They cover each others back. D Led, you the man. Great article. I enjoyed it but you will have to try hard to exceed the energy you created on the last blog when all citizens and even visitors invaded Falcon Nation!! Great!!!. So far I also see most of the ususal suspects are back, Seminole, WR, Marko, Ken Strick……..Reno 911, D3, Stirg where you at, can’t forget our honorary member…Unca’ Bob.
WR, enjoyed your post and I concur with your views, well done. To endorse pretty much what you said I think they are a number of issues we as fans tend to ignore, not that we don’t know but it is not in our DNA to look at these issues, because we are fans. We tend to look more at the on-the-field product we would like to see. In the case of management, especially ours that have bitten by the “lack-of-character” bug, there are different sides they have to look at and we have to wlak in their shoes for a moment:
1) Impact of “bad character” guy on the locker room and ultimately the franchise.
2) Negative media attention, thus distracting all from the real job at hand and ultimately poor performances on the field.
3) From #2 reason, the additional non-productive time spent in dealing with the issue or issues that may arise; the media questions etc.
4) All of the above contribute to the increased cost of developing a “bad character” player and resulting in a negative return on the investment.
5) After the negative feedback on the franchise via the media (they like bad news), significant impact on the cash flow due to declining sales of memorobilia, and TV opportunities. Remember if you have a bad season one year, you most likely will not be picked up by the media the following year so your team falls deeper into obscurity until, you are able to right the ship. It also causes the franchsie, (as we did ), to clean house so to speak, and re-bulid again. We have been fortunate in that we made the right picks and accelerated the recovery process much quicker than any of us could have imagined.

Great Article. I think it is going to be fun watching what Coach Smith and his staff are able to do with the new players as they integrate them in with the veterans. Smitty said last year that he and his staff had only scratched the surface of what they had in their playbook and were limited because of the “Type” of players that he had and the “Experience” (or lack there of) under his system. Now that the team is being transformed with the type of players Smitty wants and the majority of the team has had a year of experience the overall team performance should improve dramatically.
I read on the different Blogs where fans are fearing the tougher schedule and specifically the large number of games that the team has to play against teams coming off Bye-Weeks. After spending many years in the U.S. Army as an officer I have learned that a well trained organization can over come all sorts of over whelming obstacles and if coach Smith and his staff have show me anything it is that they believe in training and execution. I feel good about the draft picks, I feel better about the Falcons as a team this coming season, but I feel really great about their future. GO FALCONS!!!

think the falcons chances are directly tied to the curse of the 370 carries. Turner last year surpassed the 370 carry mark and that has meant injury the following year for just about every running back that has accomplished the feet. I hope norwood is ready to get the ball alot and can make something happen with it cause I got a feeling he will be the RB for next season.

They had a NEED too and passed up Amobi Okoye.
They passed up Patrick Willis and Amobi Okoye for a freaking project.
That’s one of the worst jobs in history in the first round. They took a guy that essentially needed 3 or 4 years (IE could have gone in the 3rd) and they took him 8th over all. Really Dumb move in a series of defensive mistakes in FA.
Not McKay and crew’s finest moment.
It’s not like he can’t play but the pick at 8th over all… and moving up… HORRIBLE.

Led I can understand your concern with drafting need over best player but the problem with best player is if you don’t need him where does he fit, and do you force yourself to let him play because of this? Reggie Bush was the BPA when the Saints drafted and at the time they didn’t need a RB, and he really hasn’t panned out as a RB yet. Look at Mario Williams for the Texans. According to the pundits he was the #3 player behind Young and Bush, but they went on need rather than what you call BPA. Atlanta got the person they needed and who was the BPA to them and what they wanted to accomplish. When you think about it Vontae Davis is gifted, but without a pass rush a good QB can beat any secondary, but you give me a great pass rush then you can beat a good QB without having great CBs.

The dark days for us football junkies: no pre-season, no training camps (except for mini-camp & OTA’s), no regular season, no playoffs, and no draft. Tony Gonz – heard people complaining about us overpaying TG after we traded for him. First of all, how much should we pay a future Hall of Fame TE coming off his best year as a pro? They did the absolute smart thing in locking him up for the remainder of his career, thus making the trade worth it. If he would have been one or two and done, the trade would be like throwing that valuable #2 out the window. For reference see what we gave up to “rent” Mark Texiera’s sorry @ss while giving up 3 good young prospects who all start for Texas now.

I find myself without much insightfult offer, but just wanted to check in with this little “keep it in perspective” moment:
Yesterday, I met a friend of a friend and got to talking football, the draft, etc. He’s a life-long Raider fan (there are a lot of them out here, to include a guy in my neighborhood who has no less than 6 or 7 large raiders stickers/decals on his black and silver truck, one of which reads “mess with the best, die like the rest”.) Needless to say, he was a bit deflated and discouraged, being one of the few (by his description) Raider fans who is able to take an objective look at their team. In Heyward-Bey, they take a guy with the 7th pick who they probably could have gotten with the 27th, or even the 39th. Then they take a guy out of Ohio who wasn’t even on some people’s draft boards with their second round pick, presumably just because he had a good 40 time. That guy wasn’t even make the MAC all-conference team. The fan I was talking to, of course, had already dismissed their upcoming season and noted, with some degree of embarassment, that sometimes he secretly wished that Al Davis “would die”. Anyway, just a random note to remind everyone how relatively good things are as a Falcons fan. Not to say they can’t or shouldn’t get better. They can, and hopefully will. Just sayin there are plenty of places where it’s not much fun to be a pro football fan. But I’m sure most of y’all can remember what that feels like. Let’s just hope that feeling stays in the past tense, and not the future.

I don’t agree with PMC that taking Anderson with the 7th pick was “one of the worst jobs in history in the first round”, but I do agree that they should have taken Okoye. I was frustrated, at the time, that they didn’t. But I’m hoping Anderson plays better this year, as everyone is. I’m just not optomistic that he’s going to find a different gear and start playing to the level he was drafted. I don’t think he’ll be a detriment to the team, I just think he’ll be average. The ‘07 draftee I’m most excited about seeing again is Trey Lewis. I need Ken Strick’s weigh in on this: will Lewis still play at the 3 technique after Jerry’s been added? I can use the terms but don’t necessarily know what they mean. What changes in the interior personnel mix now that Jerry is in the mix?

Vontae Davis – as I said before the draft, I would be pretty happy with who TD & Co. drafted, with the exception being Vontae Davis. He may be a great talent and the best lockdown corner in the draft, but I would not draft him at any round, at any level. Anyone who has been compared to MeAngelo Hall both on and off the field gets a Giant Red Flag put up immediately. We had the original Hall and we see how well that worked out. No need for the ego. How many times does the talent outweigh the ego and potential locker-room disruption? Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, Deangelo Hall? IMHO, NOPE!
Aaron Kelly – I was the happiest fan in the world when I read that we agreed to terms with Aaron Kelly at WR. I even had us taking him with our 5th or 6th round pick. This is the perfect spot for him. We’re already stacked at WR with 1)Roddy, 2)Jenkins, 3)HD, & 4)BFinn. We always carry 5 WR’s and he would be a perfect project to groom. 6′5′ and runs a 4.5 40-time? He will need to put on some weight(currently @ 208)and show that he wants it, but this is a great take on 5th WR who can have some time to develop. He can be a great complement to speedy HD and work to become a downfield threat, as well as a serious red-zone target.
DOL – I gotta go back and check those direct hits on the Draft! I know you didn’t have Heyward-Bay going to da’ Raiders, like our boy Reno911 did in our mock draft competition.

D3, we must have been thinking alike. I also picked him to be one of our picks. Question we have to ask ourselves is why no other team drafted him? What are the issues? Doesn’t really mean he won’t make it. History is replete with such players, undrafted but had excellent careers:

All I know is Mike Singletary had that press conference and the player he said he couldn’t play with and he was talking about was Vontae Davis’s brother Vernon Davis. When you here comparisons to DeLo and know the brother is hard to manage I think we made a wise decision on passing on this player. I want guys on my team like Mike Singletary.Heck I would have been ok getting rid of DeLo even if we had gotten no draft choice. The guy was a cancer.

As much as you want to look at pure talent. you have to assess character in this day and time. Mike Vick, Plaxico Buress, and Donte Stallworth are just a few names to look at when you have invested alot of money into, just to get burned. Many of these teams will see in three years, or less that there scouting department didn’t dig deep. Vonte Davis, and Percy Harvin will be two examples of bad investments. On one final note, is Troy Bergeron a yearly pre-season singing? He isn’t going to make this squad! Troy try Carolina, they might give you a better chance, but you have no chance with the birds.

PMC- No worries. I agree that Anderson was probably a bad pick at 7. My only point was that there have been far worse first round picks, and one need not look farther than the Falcons. Aundray Bruce (1st overall), anyone? Or Bruce Pickens (3rd overall)? Good times.
SPS- Good point on Okoye. Who knows, maybe both he and J. Anderson will blossom this year. Do I remember this incorrectly, but wasn’t Okoye something like 20 years old when he was drafted? I remember age being a big knock on him coming out. I think he graduated high school when he was 15 or 16 or something like that. By contrast, I think Peria Jerry is 25. Just an interesting note.

Also, with everyone on TV getting all excited about Pat White running Miami’s singlewing (the “wildcat”), where is the clamor/excitement for DJ Shockley to run a few out of the same formation for the Falcons? As a junior William Moore produced eight interceptions and one hundred seventeen tackles. This could have landed him a top ten selection in the 2007 draft. In 2008 Williams numbers fell to eighty-six tackles and one pick. In normal arithmetic 1 minus 8 equals minus 7. In the NFL 1 minus eight equals millions of dollars. Funny math? Not for William, the money was his. For most of us staying in school and picking up our smart papers makes good economic sense, but this doesn’t apply to William Moore. Now for the good news, William was selected in the second round, by the Atlanta Falcons While he won’t be bidding on Ron Mexico’s slightly used mansion, he’ll be paid a lot more than chump change. More importantly, William Moore gets the chance to prove that 2007 wasn’t a fluke. Give us eight picks and we’ll be absolutely thrilled. Ten would be better. If William seizes the opportunity he’s been granted, someday he’ll laugh at his silly rookie contract. D3, I was robbed, check my curry to seattle pick, doesn’t really matter though it was just fun mocking it up with the crew, by the way what you know about Fear of a black planet, that was the album back in the day. Back to the gridiron, I see we released Moorehead and Fraser which gives Vance Walker and even better chance to make the team. Seminole has already said it and as a tech fan I have to agree, don’t sleep on Vance he just might be a late round steal and gem. I also like our free agent pick-ups, John Parker Wilson has the makings to be a good back-up and potential trade bait later in his career so nice move, and Aaron Kelly is going to turn out to be an excellent receiver in my opinion. I hope Shockley has a good preseason I really would like to see him get a chance to play in the NFL, probably won’t be with the birds but if he shows out this preseason the Falcons will have even more trade bait to dangle around.

D3, I’m peeved at myself about my mock. Everybody and their brother had Jason Smith going second. I had to get cute and go Monroe. Also I failed to consider that Al Davis could really be that stupid. A couple less brain pharts, and I coulda been a contender.
