DOB, I believe another guy with the first name Craig was pretty brutal against lefties last years also. Although he was pretty brutal against everyone.
As noted by Buster (Olney) in his blog this morning, Buster Posey — South Georgia’s own Buster Posey, by the way — has played in 308 regular-season games, less than two full season’s worth, and won a rookie of the year award, a batting title, an MVP award and two World Series titles.
That’s pretty amazing. (The stats, not the fact that the writer and player both go by Buster.)
John Kincade @JohnKincade
Peyton Manning was once (0-3) in his first three playoff starts. He had to answer the same questions that @M_Ryan02 will have to.
Manning did win playoff games number 4 and 5… lost #6 though. If Ryan follows the same path (and he’s been pretty good compared to Manning’s first 5 seasons, Matt better at limiting turnovers and completing passes), it means we’d get to the Super Bowl and lose… I could handle that.
I think.
Yes, Tony is yet to win a playoff game… shame really. Gotta send him out right.

yep… was worth -7 runs out in LF in just 29 starts… adds up to 36 runs over 150 starts. Yikes.
Lee- Maybe if we get some new owernship… lol. I can’t see the Giants letting him get away anytime soon though, he’s way too valuable of a bat. Versatile too, he can do more than just catch. He is the Giants franchise imo. Best catcher in all of baseball, one of the top5 young players, you don’t let that go.
You guys are so funny. Posey has managed to have a single healthy year, and caught fewer than 120 games even then, and he gets beaucoup man-love. McCann catches 130+ for five straight years (and came close to that even when hurt the last two), makes six AS games, finally has one year with an OPS under .800, and the same folks are ready to chunk him to the curb at 28.
Who is, or ever, wondered about him? Hopefully not Braves fans, or fans from other National League teams. Or American League teams not named the Houston Astros. He’s awful.
I don’t know if the Braves will make the financial commitment to McCann or not, but folks who think losing that guy (for whatever reason) would be inconsequential…they aren’t very smart, in my opinion.
At least, with Laird playing for a couple of weeks to open the season, people will get an idea of what replacing McCann with Bethancourt will be like, LOL. Let’s see how they like them apples!
Posey only caught those “few” games because he was able to play 1B as well… 29 starts over there. Mac doesn’t do that. It’s a way to keep his innings down, while still getting his bat in the game. Allows him to play longer as a player because he can move to other positions right now. I bet he could go and play every position but P and CF again like he did in college…
.314/.380/.503/.883 146 OPS+ for his career and is 25… but just like Mac, I wouldn’t sign him past 32-33 right now on a longterm deal either since his primary position is catcher. Only has the 1 freak injury, Mac has gotten hurt a bit it seems for a few years straight.
BAS – I will say: I think your Buster/nepotism hybrid needs work, but since I can’t come up with anything better, and couldn’t have come up with ‘Busterotism,’ I may be wrong.
Actually, the more I look at the word “Busterotism”, the more scared I get as to what I may be inadvertently implying. Let’s just erase this work from our consciousness.
rebounded strong from his injury, Mac got hurt again…. I’m concerned with him. Like him, sure hope we can keep him somehow, but is he the best catcher in the game? no, and that’s all I’m saying. Always liked Posey, would be nice to have him, but I doubt that ever happens
but folks who think losing that guy (for whatever reason) would be inconsequential…they aren’t very smart, in my opinion.
They are merely inspired by the attitude taken by many on the loss of Chipper Jones and his replacement being Juan Francisco… and some how that makes the team even better…
Teams Have Called Chipper; He’ll Stay Retired
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [January 7 at 1:04pm CST]
Several teams have called to see if Chipper Jones can be persuaded to come out of retirement and play another season, agent B.B. Abbott told Mark Hale of the New York Post (Twitter links). However, Jones will stay retired. The Yankees didn’t call about the 40-year-old, Hale reports.
Jones’ 19-year MLB career ended after yet another strong offensive season and a memorable farewell tour. The switch hitter posted a .287/.377/.455 batting line and hit 14 home runs in 448 plate appearances as Atlanta’s starting third baseman last year. Jones, an All-Star in 2012, will presumably be enshrined in baseball’s Hall of Fame once he’s eligible for induction. He said in August that he won’t reconsider his decision to retire.
“Actually, the more I look at the word “Busterotism”, the more scared I get as to what I may be inadvertently implying. Let’s just erase this work from our consciousness.”
but is he the best catcher in the game? no, and that’s all I’m saying.
He was for a good while there. Seems many forget that… and casually over-look the fact that he has been a starting major league catcher since he was 21.
As for Posey, guy was terrible in 2011. Giants should have dumped him after that awful season. Just a total embarrassment.
I know that Mac was good, not discounting that…. I’d say that he was better than Mauer. But now he’s 28-29, about to cross 30 as a catcher. Already has 8000 innings caught, will likely reach 9k this season. Buster at age 25 has caught 2036 innings, McCann passed that halfway through his age 23 season… more wear and tear on that body imo. Posey is a big up and comer right now, probably the best imo.
But I don’t want to turn this into a McCann vs. Posey thing, please.
TOBF – I what world would the Braves ever have a chance to acquire Buster Posey, EVEN IF they had the financial ability to do so? You have gotten worse than AT with the trade/signing proposals. It’s a non starter…all the way. Sheeesh.
The only problem I have with folks posting “non-starter” trades is when they start defending them as plausible. Or criticize Frank Wren later, when a trade wasn’t made and, for instance, Jordan Schafer starts in LF.
If Chipper was closer to 500 HR I could see him coming back for another season… he’d have to go two more to get close, and there’s just no way his knees could handle it.
I think we’ll see him in a Braves uni again in a couple of years, probably as a hitting coach. He seems like one of those guys who was in the game soooo long that he’s going to have a hard time adjusting to normal life.

murph, I doubt Chipper would’ve wanted to take a chance at his lifetime batting average or obp to drop below .300 or .400. For a switch hitter, his consistency is a bigger accomplishment than the 500 homeruns. Although that would have been some pretty nice icing for the cake.
TOBF – I think we have the only secondary that can really slow your passing game down, and Turner against our run defense? Kaep doesn’t have to be better than Ryan for us to beat you. If it happens though it will be a great game to watch. We have to beat the Packers first, and you have to beat the SeaChickens first.
TOBF – If we all agree that Posey is going nowhere…and in fact, any alternative to that is just crazy talk…well….I’m kinda wondering…what’s the point? Have things gotten so bad that we are reduced to debating the merits of a trade that will not possibley ever happen? I know you like to lead the blog in posts, but really…
I think I will come back when there is actually something to talk about. I hear they are actually going to play some hockey.

TOBF – You aren’t beating the Niners… haha
They won’t have to, the Packers will do it for them and then if, and that’s a big IF, they beat the Hawks which I don’t think they will, the Packers will repeat 2010 and embarass them at home in the dome again. I still think the Packers will face the Seahawks in a rematch/redemption game and beat the piss out of them for the BS call game earlier in the season.
I made my order this morning based off of input from DOB’s list, and friends lists, and wish lists, with my amazon gift cards. I just can’t stop looking to see if it has shipped yet. I can’t wait to get this shipment and listen to the tunes. Some of these I haven’t heard since I had a tape deck. Really do enjoy amazon gift cards. And this collection will go well with the other albums I got as physical gifts…
Celebration Rock, Japandroids; Bloom, Beach House; Sweet Heart Sweet Light, Spiritualized; Master of My Make-Believe, Santigold; An Awesome Wave, Alt-J; Round About Midnight, Miles Davis; The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, Fiona Apple; Lonerism, Tame Impala; channel ORANGE, Frank Ocean; The Big Roar, The Joy Formidable; Disintegration, Cure; A Thing Called Divine Fits, Divine Fits; Innerspeaker, Tame Impala; Heaven, Walkmen
we lost our best DBs before that game w/ the Packers last time, Rodgers took advantage of a rookie…. 33-6 at the dome, only have 1 playoff game there. Falcons will get the wins coming. I hope.
I don’t think the Packers can beat the Niners, we beat them at their house already this year. If Kaep can play half of what his talent is then we will make it to the NFC Championship.
I know I’m fighting an uphill battle here on a very pro Falcons blog but I got faith in my boys!
I don’t know. You’ve got cab, Efrim, and I with you, while most of the pro-Falcons side is of the Mixxo/Disgusted variety. Heck, they might have more guys calling Niners than we do.
Those still wondering about Delmon Young, forget the fact that he’s had off-the-field issues and hasn’t met expectations on the field since his huge 2010 season. The other problem, the reason reason I’d imagine the Braves haven’t pursued him, is that he’d be a nightmare defensively in left at Turner Field.
If your kind of a player is a Jeff Francoeur type hitter with less athleticism and way more off-field distractions, you might be okay with Delmon Young.
Delmon Young is the latest poster child for why there shouldn’t be a one-game playoff and why MLB’s playoff system could use some restructuring. Delmon Young has a LCS MVP…’nough said.

Actually, it’s probably more a reason why we shouldn’t pay too much attention to postseason performance and stats.
DOB, are the IT folks at AJC at least working on trying to make this blog function better? Is it not on the list of priorities? I guess it’s okay given that it’s January, but I sure hope the problem gets resolved come April – when the traffic is greater.
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN
The Yankees want the draft pick/draft dollars they’ll get when Soriano signs elsewhere more than they want him back, no matter the contract.
A great strategy by Cashman. They will have three draft picks for Swisher, Soriano and their own for the 2013 draft.
They have constantly picked at the back of the draft and continued to give up picks for free agents and still have a better farm system then us. That’s at least one team that is constantly picking at the back of the draft and also giving up other draft picks(them and Boston).
I have been sending in quotes from bloggers about the problems for several days now in the feedback below. No response back, I guess we are redheaded stepchildren since the twitter has taken off so much.
What does everyone think about RGIII’s injury? Do yall think he tore his ACL again? Today’s MRI was inconclusive. I really hope he didn’t… He’d miss all of next season if he did…. He means so much to us Redskins fan, the most excitement and hope I’ve had in my entire life as a fan….
Worst case scenario is he misses next season, Kirk Cousins is the starter. We’d have a upgraded and healthier defense along with a receiving corps with a year under there belts together. Still a solid team, but the whole energy and hope would be gone. I’m so sick of this, nothing goes right it seems.
Now I’m getting a “Google can’t connect to AJC blogs” error. I know I’m getting tired of sitting here for minutes at a time, trying to post or refresh. I know AJC is losing bloggers who won’t tolerate the delays and frustration.
Today is a great, though bittersweet day as BAMA plays for it’s 15th National Championship. It’s the 1st one since I lost my Dad back in June, but it’ll be the 1st since my Grandson was born in September. Here’s to the TIDE enjoying some irish stew and bringing home #15 tonight! TIDE rolls 31 to 13! ROLL TIDE!!!
Yeah Couch Tater, there is a little football game in the Marlins old stadium tonight. Sure wish the Dawgs were in it but since they aren’t, I be pulling for the Tide tonight to win by 70. I’ve seen ND play the Dawgs in a bowl before and they had the most disgusting fans I’ve ever seen. Just totally classless. Of course the Dawgs kicked those Leprosy Cons azz. ROLL TIDE>

I don’t think the Packers can beat the Niners, we beat them at their house already this year. If Kaep can play half of what his talent is then we will make it to the NFC Championship.

I’m going with the home teams and the higher seeds this week:
Bronces over Ravens
Niners over Packers
Falcons over Seahawks
Patriots over Texans
NFC games will be the closest. I expect the Pats to beat the Texans by 2 TD’s. Schaub and Ryan have so much to prove.

Jason Kubel in 2012: 30 HR, 90 RBI, .253 BA, .327 OBP, 151 strikeouts, $7.5 million in 2013
BJ Upton in 2012: 28 HR, 78 RBI, .246 BA, .298 OBP, 169 strikeouts, $15 million in 2013
Upton is a real bargain (LMAO !) — Phillies Phanatic
One of them became a free agent this winter and the other didn’t. If Kubel were a free agent, he’d not be making $7.5 million in ‘13.
By the way, over past 3 seasons, Kubel made $16.85 million and had 74 doubles, 8 triples, 63 homers, 180 runs, 240 RBIs, 2 steals.
In that 3-year period, Upton made $14.825 million and had 94 doubles, 11 triples, 69 homers, 250 runs, 221 RBIs, 109 steals.
Oh, and Kubel is 30 and Upton is 28.
Upton is no bargain at $75 million over 5 seasons, but comparing him to Kubel is apples/oranges. And I haven’t even mentioned defense.
