Kind of in a mood tonight so I’ll throw it out there – Anyone that would trade Simmons for Upton should be banned from the blog and have to wear a baseball dunce hat.

Shortstops with Simmons skill set is one or 2 a life time. Did those advocating this rediculous trade see the plays he made last year. They were Ozzie like but with a much better arm. Yet some want to trade him for a athletic Outfielder. An outfielder?? Really??? Geez!

I don’t think anyone knows what Bossman Junior can do, and I’m sure no one knows what he will do – seeing what players actually do on the field is the joy of watching actual baseball games. No one knows what Evan Gattis can do in MLB, although a whole lot of people on this blog have spent the winter writing him off before he’s ever had an AB – part of the joy of watching actual baseball games is seeing what rookies can do, and become. Spring Training cannot get here fast enough for me.

What we are hearing from a lot of these anti-indian logo bloggers is knee jerk uninformed, illogical, self-righteous, moralizing baby talk.

DiamondDave, January 3rd, 2013, 8:44 pm … “they were originally the Boston Braves, and that the name is a reference to the disguise worn by those who took part in the original Boston Tea Party?”

That was such a racist disguise. Those Bostonians should feel some moral responsibility for trying to pin the blame for their misdeeds on a British ally.

Since they were also the Boston Beaneaters, that casts a little more light on the nature of the logo “Indian’s” comi-tragic expression.

I don’t give a crap about logos or names. I just want the mlb team playing out of Atlanta to find a left fielder and a leadoff hitter!

He’s never struck out that many times in a season- why do you think he will now? (genuinely curious…)

Along with contract pressure for him to try and be more than he ever has been he will be stuck in a lineup of several other strikeout machines.

Remember that within the last 4 or 5 years this team has 5 guys that broke Andruws K record for the Braves. Bottom line is that this team places zero importance on cutting down on Ks. They don’t mind the most useless out there is – K.

Okay, the Diamondbacks have been wanting to trade Justin Upton forever. How about they just do it?

I actually feel bad for Justin Upton-he really has no choice but to hear the noise. He can’t trade himself. He’s got to play for a team that doesn’t want him, hasn’t wanted him, and talks about that fact at every opportunity.

If I were a GM, I wouldn’t offer anything near what Upton is worth. I’d just keep reminding Towers that he’s been trying to trade this guy for a couple of years now.

Look at how little the Dbacks got for Trevor Bauer? All the dbacks do is trash their players publicly, and then trade them for next to nothing. Ryan Roberts, Chris Young, Stephen Drew, Trevor Bauer, now Justin Upton

Justin would be a great addition but if you trade Prado you need a huge improvement from Juan F. Not sure a P90X winter and DR BB is enough to expect that from him. That said I do like the kid and hope he gets a shot.

Overall I cannot see Wren parting with Prado but nothing is impossible.

Uggla is the guy I would want to go bye bye but he will be as hard to move as Lowe (at least now).

Ahmed, Delgado, Spruill, Venters gets you a return phone call from Towers. Maybe not the deal but a deal starter.

They won’t have their best pitcher for half the season. They still havent replaced Chipper and they replaced Bourn with a guy who can’t get on base and strikes out more than Uggla. They replaced Ross with Laird (ughh). They lost a bit of defense in CF and 3B too. Simmons is unproven as you could tell from the WC game. He’s not going to be as good as people think offensively. Francisco for 120 games will be a disaster. Uggla is Uggla, and hes declining fast. This team has MEDIOCRE written all over them. But hey, bullpen will be great.

MikeInFl

January 3rd, 2013
11:38 pm

LAA looked good on paper last spring, too, but finished third in their division. Most of the predictions on here seem to me to overlook that the Braves’ best players were, for the most part, kids last year, and have lots of room for improvement.

We haven’t seen the best yet of Heyward, Freeman and Simmons. Will have Medlen (and Simmons) for a full year. If McCann comes back healthy, he should be at his best, and rested for the late season… and we hopefully get Beachy back.

Some things have to go right – a lot rests on Delgado/Tehran, and Uggla to play a positive role IMO – but it’s not impossible for the Braves to win the division.
