Hi nolie
AGREED, I have no problem with DOB this time of year, when there is nothing to write there is no sence writing it.
Tom – Yeah, depending on the size of the pig/hog, the fat to meat ratio can see saw either way. To me, I cut the fat off and save the fat for when I make gravy n stuff. Fry the fat of the meat and use the juices of it as a base for gravy, it’s good.
Come on Keylargo….give the kid a break…..never know what could happen.
I like him in LF better than Francisco at 3B. More speed, more excitement, better defense. No power but can hit for a lot of doubles just because of his legs….. And we do need speed on this team more than we need the power that Francisco can bring, which is not like get a real slugger.
One of my buddy’s father used to work in a local meat-packing place (Tobin’s First Prize). He used to say that everything is edible on the pig except for the tail and the oink.
Doc H – The Braves picked Schafer up on waivers which go in inverse order of team strength. In other words worst to best. That means the Braves picked about 25th which means teams like the Twins, Indians, Royals, Marlins, Mets, Cubs and Rockies passed on him. Plus Houston is the worst team in baseball and they cut him.
Do you think a player with that history will be the best player the Braves can put out in LF?
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
Giancarlo Stanton has the sixth most home runs EVER through a player’s age 22 season, according to research through the B-R play index.
Stud. Better version of JHey (though he’s a stud too!)
As Stephen A. Smith would say, they are both “bad bad men”, but imo Giancarlo is the badder one.
8 of 30… not bad. They’re a bit higher on Meds/Minor than I am, but that’s fine… Nats are still #2 (though #1 to me) and the difference in bullpens and offense isn’t enough to catch us up.
TOBF – did you see my post where I asked you to find out if Schafer has worn orthodontic braces? If not, I read that one of the signs of HGH use is that it causes the jaw grow and braces on an athlete can be a sign of HGH use.
yea I saw it…. haven’t seen anything talking about him wearing it, I’ve been looking through pictures of him (i assume he would have to wear these things often)… nothing yet
Tobf
Idk if I’d say Stanton is better. Jhey is the better fielder by far, and has a better overall bat. Stanton definatly has the power edge, but he has a power edge over just about everyone.
his mouth always seems to be closed…. or half open with a bulge on the left side of his mouth (something I used to do when I had braces)… so maybe. Can’t find any definitive pics of him with one… Got this pic http://i.ytimg.com/vi/H_IgqU7iKzM/0.jpg , but it’s too fuzzy to tell anything.
probably when he was in the minors…. cuz if he had to juice in the majors to produce a .606 OPS, I mean come on!!!
Probably was 2007-8, when he OPSd 850+. Never ever came close to that again. (and we was suspended, as we all know in April of 2008). Other than that, the dude OPSd in the 600s before 07, 500s after 2009!
TOBF – BTW, I was away (not just away from the blog, but AWAY, away) when the Braves acquired Schafer. I didn’t really have too much time to learn all of the details.
I had assumed they signed him to a minor league contract.
I didn’t realize he was on the 25-man roster until, nolie, straightened my butt out, the next day.
My discussion with you, the other night, was based on my thinking he was signed for the minors.
Sorry about that.
Talkin’ about Schafer that way is ugly. He’s not a great ballplayer, and injuries derailed whatever minor momentum he ever had.
Lots of guys, thousands, have flashed a couple of good years in the lower minors, but not been able to get past that. Some of the guys you’re penciling into the lineup over the next couple of years will no doubt meet the same fate.
It’s A-Okay Tom… Glad that you’re here now, btw… It seems that I made my appearance here after you left, but heard good things about you; now having conversed with you, I see they were right!
If you folks haven’t seen Looper or Beasts of the Southern Wild, I’d highly recommend both. Each available on Red Box. Two of the best 10 or so movies I’ve seen this year. Finally got around to seeing both of them in past couple of days.
One part of a federal government financial deal is in place…….finally. There’s a long way and a lot of pieces to the puzzle to go to solve our fiscal problems
I never thought I’d say this.0, but thank God for Sasha Baron Cohen (and HBC, who I simply love)- if there was ever a movie that needed a bit of comic relief…

Years later, heard an interview with one of them, and he talked about the lyrics. “Really didn’t mean a thing,” he said. “We just put together words that sounded good with the other words, and with the music.”
USC finished 10-2 last year & basically the entire team came back. No sure how expectations wouldn’t be high heading into the season. Just had a bad year. Happens to every team
Structurally and thematically, the song is unusual in many respects. While the recorded version is 4:03 long, it is composed of only two verses, each with chorus. The piece is also more instrument-driven than most songs of the period, and with a much looser rhyme scheme. Its unusually allusive and referential lyrics are much more complex than most lyrics of the time (for example, the chorus focuses on Chaucer’s “The Miller’s Tale”). Thus, this piece can be considered an early example of progressive rock.
VJ, I don’t know about that highbrow review, but live in concert (and when Robin Trower was still in the band), A White Shade of Pale, A Salty Dog, Conquistador, Simple Sister, Shine on Brightly, etc. was extremely powerful music.
Procol Harum is one of those bands I never tire of hearing. Tom, I have many XM stations on my Dish TV including Deep Tracks, Classic Vinyl, and Classic Rewind and my TV is usually tuned to one of those stations.

Give me Peanut Butter Cups or give me Death! (Although the PNB cups will kill me eventually, I’m sure).

An old song I’ve always liked, MikeinFL, is “Whiter Shade of Pale”, by Procol Harum.
Tough to figure out what those lyrics meant, also. Like the song, though.

Not so sure – I suspect there is a good chance Alabama might score…

At the end of the verse it says, as the miller told his tale. Is this what you’re talking about?

nah, may not be that bad… don’t know if Bama will blow them out that badly, but I do think they will “dominate”. At least by 24, imo.
